If you want standard American food with an average taste this is the place to come. I tend to grab appetizers here and go elsewhere for dinner. It would be awesome if the Greene Turtle put some effort into their food and came up with some unique great tasting foods.
On the weekends this place turns into a great dance spot and has a variety of drinks available.
If you want to watch a sports game the Greene Turtle tries to make themselves the place to come, but they have gotta step up the quality of their food if they are going to become the go to destination for watching sports. They have a great location and variety of beers though which does make people tend to come in the door to watch games.
Let me preface this review by saying I went here on a Saturday night when college is out for the summer. Â I can't speak for how the place might be when it's packed with college kids. Â However, I had a great dinner here and Martha, our server, was super friendly and quick with our food.
I had the veggie wrap and my boyfriend had the raspberry turkey flatbread. Â Both were very good. Â The veggies were very fresh, as we're the salads on the side. Â The raspberry turkey flatbread felt a little heavy to eat, but I was more in the mood for something lighter. Â Also, the sweet potato fries were tasty.
I would come back here again, but probably wouldn't enjoy it as much if it was packed with drunk college kids!
No, this Green Turtle just does not do it for me.
It is dark and dreary, they do not have many specials for drinks. Well I was told that drinks specials start after 10 pm. Also the waitress 9 years younger than I kept on calling me hun, weird.
I had fish tacos they were just good but the bland atmosphere killed it for me.
Great Wings and a youth atmosphere that is a nice relaxing change. Interested in drinks, reminiscing on those sacred college days? This is your place! The Turtle is great for all ages even children, keep in mind the time you are going and that the is college night life in Towson. Reminds me of my Active Delta Chi days
Review Source:I am usually much more eloquent in my reviews, but this place outright sucks.
Despite the fairly recent facelift, the place still looks sad and worn. Yes, they have flat screens all around and even individual mini TVs at the booths, but the latter are wobbly due to being jerry rigged to the walls and therefore grainy. Not ideal if you're trying to catch a football game not on one of the main screens.
Service leaves more than something to be desired. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip as a starter but the Crab Dip came out. Mind you, this place was dead - 4 tables, including ours - so it couldn't be due to our witress being overwhelmed. When we brought the issue up to her, she didn't quite understand that she put in the wrong order at first. Instead she gave us a pissed off look as if we were in the wrong. I had to slowly explain that this was crab dip, which she finally confirmed, but we had ordered the buffalo chicken dip. I'm all for impressing the customers by taking their orders by memory, but please ensure you can pull it off first.
I should note that she did finally come back to the table to apologize for the mixup but I still ended up cutting our visit short as a result. When we asked for the bill, I showed her the Yelp Check-in offer that came up in my phone. For the second time in 30 mins or so, I was given a look like I had two heads; she needed to check if they accepted it. (What?!) She came back to inform us that they don't really take it since they are a franchise and only take the Living Social deal, but they'd "take it just this one time." (Thanks so much for the favor that your company messed up on...)
By the way, the food is crap - $10+ for a carved out dinner roll filled with dip, soggy pita and brown celery doesn't cut it. Plus, our beers had close to an inch and a half of foam on them, which meant you either had to wait for it to die down or suck it up and drink it as is. I don't think I've had a beer poured like that since a poorly tapped keg in college. This had to be one of the worst experiences I've had in awhile.
This place is terrible. I've only been on their wednesday wing nights and wouldn't dream of going for anything else. You get a ratio of one or two decent wings out of a dozen (or ten, however many come in an order) the rest are Sahara desert dry and more bone than meat. I made the sloppy mistake of ordering their cookie dessert once and the description reads "fresh out of the oven soft" and when I complained that it was rock hard my waitress straight faced told me "...but I just took it out of the microwave." the manager couldn't believe I was complaining at a Greene Turtle and I did feel awkward doing it, but, a spade is a spade and that dessert was not worth a dollar, much less 4.95.
Review Source:This is a fine place for basic boring fried food. Â I enjoy going for trivia some nights and the beer specials are OK. Â I don't think there is much that is special about any of The Greene Turtle locations, this one in particular. They have decent wings and burgers, it is convenient and never too packed so you never have to wait. Â The decor has not changed in a long time and is a little run-down seeming. Â On the weekend nights (starting on Thursday, this is a college town after all) they have cheap beer and a dj and wall to wall kids after 10 or 11.
Review Source:This place was terrible.
The waitress had to be asked multiple times for orders.
My friend got the crab dip appetizer as his meal and it came out way after all of us had finished our meals (even after we waited for his to come out before starting).
The food was below average as well. Fried, not fresh.
Will not go back.
I have only had lunch here about a dozen times. $5 burgers not to bad. Typical fried food . All the male servers that we have had are NOT friendly. I looked at the dinner menu and it is not that good to me. I would recommend lunch only. The decor is rough but kind of expected for a frat style party bar.
Review Source:This is a local sports bar/college bar. I think this is the original location and it is showing its age. I haven't been here in awhile and it looks like the place is going through some renovation as the wall is marked up with white spackled areas. Is it better to come when the lights are dim and the place is packed so you can't see the floor, walls, etc.?
We stopped in for a late dinner and drinks. Drinks were served cold and fast. The food was another story. We ordered a fried fish sandwich and cheeseburger both with fries. The fries were fine. The fish sandwich had a very fishy, not so fresh taste - it went back. Instead we both had burgers. We both ordered medium cooked burgers - one burger came out very mushy pink in the center and the other came out medium well. It was inconsistent and disappointing. The other restaurants in the chain produce a better food product.
The plus side was the service. Our server was friendly and very service oriented. She took back the fish without an issue and was apologetic. She was very efficient and managed a bunch of tables without issue.
The Greene Turtle is a sports bar that's reliable for drink specials and good appetizers, though we're not big fans of their wings.
On this occasion, our wings were burned (and not photographed due to hunger) but the sweet potato fries won our hearts. Served with a hot caramel pecan sauce that isn't too overwhelmingly caramel-y, they really hit the spot while watching preseason football. Next time, we'll skip the wings and go for sandwiches instead.
Stopped in before a show at the Recher for a quick couple beers before the doors opened (why people would stand in line is beyond me). Got a couple Flying Dog "Displeased Female Dogs" (Something tells me Yelp wouldn't approve of the actual name of the beers). Service was mediocre at best (I was sitting at the bar).
The bottles are in an ice bath, so the label gets all weird and slippery. Asked for a pint glass and the girl behind the bar was very confused for a moment, like I was crazy for not wanting to drink out of the bottle.
The place was also loud as hell. I could hardly hear myself think (and it wasn't even 1/3 full, can't imagine what it's like when the college kids descend enmasse).
The signs above the bar also ticked me off... I've completely lost my patience for the Credit Card minimum signs. They go against your merchant agreement people. YOU CAN'T HAVE A MINIMUM PURCHASE REQUIREMENT. If I were to ever go back, I'd definitely test it out and see if they would fight me over it. But I can be that kind of person.
And let's just say the "Jaegermeister is our house wine" sign actually kept  this from being a 2 star review.
I can safely say I will only be back if desperate.
The people stating that this Green Turtle has the worst food are correct. I've been to about 8 Green Turtle locations and this has by far the worst burgers, subs, and sandwiches of all of them.
Skip for the food, but I can say this is probably the best Green Turtle to go to if you want to get wasted on the weekend and look at hot, barely legal college girls.
The Greene Turtle Towson has one of the WORST burgers I've ever tasted. A huge letdown when my boyfriend and I went here one night to get dinner. It was like a non-sporting events Tuesday or something. Definite off hours as we were some of the only people there. The bartender was okay but just generally seemed uninterested in us being there. We ordered food which was all not good. I would never eat at this GT again. Waste of money.
It saddens me because e the GT in Edgewater I've had a better experience and even at this one once before. The first time however, I was there just to have an appetizer and drink. It was a weekend night and the place was packed with college kids. I guess depending on what your thing is you might enjoy it. Come for drinking with preppy college kids, if that's your thing. If not, skip it.
Fun time for a young crowd looking to get hammered off of rumple and inexpensive beer. The crowd shows up in between 11:30pm and 12am on the weekends. This is the worst Green Turtle for food. Do NOT eat here. The one at BWI airport food is 100 times better. There are tons of better places in Towson to grab a bite to eat. Go here for drinks late night if your in college or still think you are. You will party HARD. Otherwise stay clear. This place also will not empty your pocket. After all it is a recession!
Review Source:I've only been at the Greene Turtle in Fells Point but only stopped by the bar but today I went for lunch. Â I ordered the Californian burger which had avocado and bacon and I had asked for medium but the burger came out dry. Â I think this was the first burger that I didn't finish and it didn't taste good at all. Â I was really disappointed and then I tried the chicken cheesesteak but that was also dry. Â Only the french fries were good. Â The service wasn't that great either and even though we were the only ones at the restaurant, the waitress only stopped by once. Â The only thing that I liked were all the big screen tvs with games going on that I could easily see from my table but other than that, I don't think I'm going to give this place another try.
Review Source:About 14 of us went here to just hang out and catch up on a Sunday for lunch. They gave us a room since the place wasn't crowded at all. It was pretty clean.. but I guess that's because we were there early during the day.
I didn't get to ask how everyone else's food was except for the boy... but if I'm grading based on his food and mine, then I think I've had better. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak which came out really dry and I don't think it had any seasoning on it except for onions and the cheese of course. The boy had The California, Dude hamburger. He asked for a medium done burger and his was very well done as in dry dry dry. Eep. That was the first time I've seen him not finish his burger.
I usually don't like to give below 3 stars... but the waitress didn't really come by to often to ask for refills and I think we were the only ones in the restaurant so I don't see why they couldn't come check in once in a while.
But yeah... bottom line: maybe try it when it's busy to see if the atmosphere changes.. maybe it's more fun then
decent sports bar...came here a few times and liked it. they got my order wrong once and all i had to do was tell the waitress and no looks of exasperation just a sorry and then they fixed it so good customer service is always a plus. they used to have weekly specials and the burgers were good. if i'm back in the area and wanted to catch a game i would def go back here
Review Source:A decent spot to watch football. Â The space is very open, there are lots of TVs, and they have College Gameplan. Â Beer offerings are pretty typical, and besides the TVs at every booth there's not really anything here to give me strong feelings one way or another about it. Â I'm not a Towson expert, but given my quick research this was the best place in the area to watch football. Â My only food encounter was with the nachos, which were kind of crappy and lacking substance. Â Basically just melted cheese, pico, and sour cream. Â I guess the green(e) chips were to go with their namesake?
One complaint, or maybe more of an observation, is that the DJ was playing stuff that made me feel like I was at a wedding. Â I'm not sure if that's just the DJ, or if the place actually prefers that over hip-hop or variety of modern stuff. Â The predictability of the songs became the topic of a casual betting game between me and my friends. Â We joked that it felt like being at a high school dance. Â The only thing missing was Jungle Boogie by Kool and the Gang...and my loneliness.
One of my favorite Towson bars. It has everything. Ample seating. Dance floor. Attentive bartenders. Decent drink specials. Clean bathrooms. Though if you don't attend Towson University, you might feel kind of out of place. Definitely a college bar.
If you actually go during the day to eat, the food isn't half bad. Get anything crabby and you won't be disappointed. The only thing I have to gripe about is that they have this funky debit card policy where if you start a tab they put a $20 hold on your card. I guess so you don't walk out on your tab or some nonsense. Boo to that since it took them almost a week to take it off and I desperately needed that $20.
While the 'Turtle does have its weaknesses, e.g. being overcrowded and having expensive drinks for what they give you, the atmosphere is pretty cool as far as bars go. They have several different seating areas that are tended by waitresses except when it's very late and the kitchen is closed (still they come for beer orders and tips sometimes). The food is actually pretty good and their menu is fairly expansive. They have a long bar that zigzags around the place which is lined with booths and televisions. Adding a personal touch you can purchase (technically lease) a glass mug that hangs on the ceiling with a number that's unique to you and when you come in, you can use it and get discounted drinks. Not a bad choice despite all of the hype, although it can get pretty crowded on weekend nights.
