Ate there for the first time about a week ago and was very surprised.  I ordered the crab cake appetizer and the steak.  The food was good.  I did not know what to expect when I went in and was surprised to see how many different food dishes they offered.  It is not just bar food folks.  There was a variety.  The food here is very good.  The prices are reasonable and the service was excellent.  They also have live music and pool tables. Check their website for details. I will eat there again.

A very interesting place, but with an older, divey crowd.

Came here for the first time Friday night. The first thing I noticed is that the crowd is mainly 40+ year olds.

The music was a different mix of 80's sounding alternative punk/grunge. Moshing was taking place on the dance floor with people who thought they were still living in the 80's. Most of the patrons were rowdy and wreaked of smoke.

Highlight was getting a free (strong) drink for no apparent reason.

Not sure if I want to try this place again...

Went for an early dinner with the kids, figuring it would be a good time - we waited at least 15 minutes before the waiter acknowledged us...which wouldn't have been so bad, but we were one of THREE tables.  However, I will say he was very attentive, if not a little forgetful, after the initial taking of orders.  The Bloody Mary's were horrible (literally tomato juice, too much horseradish, and a splash of vodka), but the wine and beer were ok.  The wings were tasty, I had the flank steak which was good, my husband the steak sandwich which didn't look good - but he swears it was perfectly good.  They didn't seem to mind our young kids, which is always a positive to us.  Kid menu was decent.
    Overall - a solid "C"

Always friendly, personable service and atmosphere.  Truly a small town pub/restaurant.  Manager went out of her way to help my wife customize  an order to meet her vegan needs.

I am a regular at this place - and for a reason.  First, let me say this is not just a bar - as some reviews seem to imply -  it is a very good restaurant that has, in my view, the better pub-style food in the area.  They always rotate the fantastic beer selection while keeping standards such as Guinness and Lagunitas IPA on tap at all times.   I would not agree with reviews claiming that the beer is pricey.  They only have craft and import beers on tap - NO Bud or Coors, etc.  They have those in bottles, but you will never find Bud on tap here.  Six or Seven dollars for a pint of world- class beer is quite reasonable.  If you are looking for two dollar Bud Lites, there is a place literally on the "other side of the (train) tracks" that will accommodate you.

The burgers here are amazing.  My favorite is the "spice" which is topped with roasted jalapenos and avocado.  The lobster mac and cheese is sublime - not some gooey cheesy sports bar version.  The soups are all made without a lot of the shortcuts that many places that appear 'pubby' employ.

The Sunday brunch is the best in the area. it's not a buffet but the eggs Benedict, in its various versions, are to die for.

They also have great music most Saturday nights after nine with no cover.  The building is almost 200 years old, and it has a very authentic feel.  If you are in Bethel and you keep walking by, perhaps it's worth checking into.

Good small town food and really solid beer selection. Probably the best beer selection in the Bethel / Danbury area actually.  Great French onion soup and pasta with sausage. The cheese steak was good but a little on the salty side.  Attentive staff as well.

This was disappointing. The food was nothing special (my order came out not as ordered). It's ok.

Came here to enjoy a beer with my pop and wait for our take out order.

The bartender told us that each wing order came with 10 wings. We ordered three for the family. Arrived at home to find that one order had 6 wings, the next had 8 and the last had 7. What gives?

The wings weren't good. The size of them were good but, the bleu cheese we had with them was soupy.

A friend had a chicken wrap and said that was good. Will give this place another shot. The beer selection was great.

Don't know about these bad reviews but, I frequent Greenwoods often and have never had a bad experience with food or drinks!  Highly recommend checking it out.  My only gripe would be that the bar area could have more seating, and the restaurant a bit less.

A very nice place in the Bethel area.  As many other members have stated the beer selection is outstanding.  But don't forget the rest of the bar!  Their liquor selection is impressive, too.

I think the place is having an identity crisis.  Pub with a restaurant or restaurant with a pub?  Anyway, the prices are reasonable and the food is well above average for upscale pub-grub.

Sitting outside is pleasant in the summer until the train rolls past.  The view of Bethel is nice and the patio is reasonably sheltered from the noise of Greenwood Ave.

The seating area directly opposite from the bar is very noisy on busy nights and it is difficult for the servers to wade through the crowd at the bar to get food to tables.

Service is very friendly but the kitchen is notoriously slow.  I guess this isn't such a problem if you are enjoying the beer selection.  But if you are really hungry, the wait can get frustrating.

Overall:  A good place to drink and get some munchies.  I will go back, but I am not running to get there.

Gets a 5 for the beer selection alone! My guy friends (and now myself) are really into craft beer and Greenwood's by far has the best selection in the Greater Danbury Area. Food is pretty good and maybe a tad pricey, but we always take people from out of town here!

Solid pub. Been three times and no disappointment. Good smoky pulled pork, perfectly medium rare burgers, well -chosen beer on tap, reasonably priced glasses of wine, nice atmosphere, friendly, attentive owner.

5 stars for the beer selection alone. 13 beers on tap - always rotating, and usually with a "featured brewer." Today they have 2 Lagunitas (including Fusion 7 Ale) on tap, as well as Rogue Double Chocolate, Dogfish 90, Long Trail Triple Bag, etc.

The food is always good -  be let's be honest - I come here for the beer.

Have eaten here a few times and it seems to get better. Probably the best of its many incarnations. Soups are excellent, mussels Devine and sandwiches are good.

This was a nice little place to have dinner and a beer while visiting family.  The weather was decent, so we sat out on their little patio, which was quite pleasant, although we were eating during the evening commute, so there were several commuter trains that rolled by just across the street/parking lot.

They have a decent selection of beers on tap, and the one that the waitress recommended was quite good (although it was a couple weeks ago, so I've forgotten which it was).  My pasta with sausage, chicken, peppers, and onions was surprisingly good.  I was expecting bland and overcooked, but I got perfectly al dante and quite flavorful.  My aunt's burger looked decent, but nothing amazing.  Overall a nice place to grab a bite to eat and a beer.

I've been here a few times and you never really know what to expect when you show up.  Sometimes there aren't any other people in the bar and sometimes it's pretty packed.  Regardless, it's not too hard to find a seat.  They also have an nice outdoor seating area.

The beer selection is pretty good considering how small the bar is.  The bartenders are always really nice and friendly.

I honestly did not mean to wind up here today for lunch. I wanted to go somewhere else, but they didn't accept credit cards. I have to use one for my expense report. Neither did the second place I tried, so I wound up here. It was EMPTY when I arrived. Two men at the bar made a joke and asked if I had a reservation.

I sat at the bar. I got the chicken caesar salad (duh) and an order of sweet potato fries. GREAT selection of beers on tap, including ... wait for it ... delirium tremens and purple haze (10% abv), I didn't dare, as I was driving.

Food was decent. When my sweet potato fries came out, the waitress/bartender said she thought they were too dark and would take them off my bill. Little did she know I prefer some of my foods overdone, so these fries were perfect. Great flavor. After seeing some reviews here, I wished I had tried the mac and cheese.

Kind of expensive, the salad was $12. Parking is across the street in a big lot.  Service was very nice, and the locals at the bar were friendly as well.

This place has been open for some months and it's my first time trying it.  For people who know this area, this location was where the Opera House Cafe was.

I ordered take-out tonight and will definitely be going back both for the restaurant and take-out.  I ordered over the phone without even looking at a menu.  I asked the person who answered the phone about their specials and their menu and she was very nice and helpful.

I got the appetizer order of fried calamari.  Since I ordered over the phone, I was expecting the usual fried squid rings with tomato sauce.  It was not just the rings, also a few whole squid,  crispy, but a little salty. The calamari might be a little salty to stand up to the sauces -- no traditional tomato here -- a chipolte with a nice kick that spice lovers will enjoy and a fresh jalapeno tomato salsa.  I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this new twist and recommend trying this dish.

I do regret NOT ordering the 4-cheese mac & cheese with fresh lobster, but I did order one of their other specials, the sauteed shrimp with basil, garlic and tomato over mini-rigatoni with a creamy parmesean sauce.  Very well executed and very good.  The sauce had the right consistency without tasting overly thick and fatty.  I enjoyed it without feeling guilty!

There's lots of other stuff on their menu that I'm definitely coming back to try with my guy and our friends.  The short rib chili, char-grilled black angus burgers with lots of combined toppings like carmellized onions, roasted portabello & brie or "The Stuffie" stuffed with Vermont cheddar & topped with smoked bacon or the "Spice" burger with spicy avocado, roasted jalapeno and queso blanco.

Other entrees that look interesting is the pecan-crusted brook trout in a sherry vinaigrette, hand-cut NY black angus strip steak, and baby back ribs from Berkshire Farms.

This was a Thursday night about 8 pm.  They had a bar crowd who were NOT so rowdy that the restaurant crowd could relax and enjoy their dinners.  The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, very warm, clean, lit candles on every table.

I'm really looking forward to making this place one of my regular neighborhood places.

Disclaimer: I only lived in Danbury for 2 years and didn't like it much.

If you happen to be strolling around Bethel on a warm Summer's day (and what else would you want to do on a warm Summer's day) you'll eventually end up taking a seat outside at Greenwoods and start studying their impressive list of beers.  You'll feel a little pressure to order some food, there are plates and silverware on the table, but if you just want to drink, so be it (just be sure to tip well).

But shortly after the cool beer touches your sun-warmed lips, you'll get a look at your bill and realize that you're paying quite a bit for that fancy brew.  If you look at a food menu, the sticker shock will be quicker.

For while Greenwoods may appear to be a bar, it holds itself as a little bit better than that, and charges you a little bit more.

But enjoy your beer, enjoy the sun.  When you finish that beer, order a second... but after that, I'd continue your stroll.
