The First and Last Cafe is a mere shadow of its former self, sad to say. Â The white pizza with clams used to be quite wonderful, but when we ordered it last night it proved extremely disappointing. Â The crust was thin and lacking in texture, and excepting for the clams (an additional $2.50) the pizza was quite tasteless. Â The cheese was runny, rather than melted, and it had an off flavor I could not place right away. Â After a bit I realized it tasted just like the sauce in the Joe Corbi white pizza kits the band kids sell as a fundraiser. Â That doesn't make this the "best pizza" in my book. Â
Also, we had issues with the wine list, which was in such small print it was difficult to read, and the beer list which had no prices at all. Â We ordered two beers, a Ten Penny Ale, and an Old Yankee Ale. Â When the beer arrived at the table, we were disappointed to find the Ten Penny was not the normal beer, but the "Reserve" which had a very fizzy and citrus-y flavor which we didn't care for. Â It was not marked as such on the beer list, which only said Ten Penny Ale. Â
However, the big shock was when the check arrived. Â We were charged $37.50 for one pizza and two beers. Â Apparently the Ten Penny Ale was $12 for one bottle! Â Thank goodness we didn't like it, because if we had ordered a second it would have been $24 for two beers. Â Exorbitant! Â You would think if they were going to charge that much they would at least tell you in advance. Â
All in all, very disappointing. Â We will not be returning.
I was a regular at the restaurant when Lynn and Peter 2 of my best friends owned the establishment . Â Now the torch has passed to Adam and Nicole and as much as we miss some of the old dishes the ingenuity and remodel have been nothing but amazing. Â I wish you both the best of luck on your journey in restaurant ownership . We appreciate you keeping with the traditional style of pizza that is famous and recognized for best pizza in the area . Good luck guys eventhough I don't think you will need it ........ LOVE THE FOREVER REGULAR
