The decor was great, there's nothing quite like it in Danbury. It has a romantic, rustic feel with wooden ceilings and painted chandeliers. There's red velvet curtains everywhere and damask velvet wallpaper. Lighting's very dark, almost too dark, as my party struggled to even read the menu, whipped out our phones.
The menu *seemed* good, they offer fishes like seared sea bass and salmon. Burgers, steaks, salads, and appetizers. But the seasoning on everything was... OFF. Maple glazed salmon? In honesty, it was grilled salmon drenched in Aunt Jemima syrup. Terrible. The side of rice was completely overcooked to the point of rice porridge. Everything was either bland, extremely salty or really sweet. ONE small piece of buttered bok choy was my vegetable. Hardly merits $21.
We waited a long time for a slow Thursday night, took the food 30 mins to get out. The rice was soggy and overcooked. The fish didn't look like it touched a grill. Somehow, when we took our first bite, it was radioactive HOT. I have a blister on my tongue to show for it. This tells me they definitely cooked the fish fast, realized it was undercooked, and hardcore microwaved it before bringing it out. Me and my friends spent our time poking jokes over our entrees.
The waitstaff. It wasn't a busy night. Yet somehow our waiter was AWOL. I'd occasionally see him slowly wandering in and out of the room barehanded, looking bored. I wanted to tell him the food was terrible, but honestly it was my birthday and didn't want to ruin the night. We just wanted to pay and get the HECK outta there!!!
A few key points you need to know:
Service seems to be lacking here. Â
Our food was good but it's on the pricey side.
Bathrooms are quite nice.
On to specifics...
Service: Rather apathetic. We were a party of 7 during lunch time in a mostly empty restaurant. Â Small things were off...My soda glass was empty several times and it took a while to get anyone's attention for a refill. No one came to check on us after our food was served. At this price point, I'd have expected these guys to be polished and on point. Not so much.
Food: I tried a wing, a few pieces of calamari, and then a salad with grilled scallops. Â It was all good, though the salad only came with three (not very large) scallops. The rest of the salad was dressed poorly and was filled with way too much radicchio. Â
Bathrooms: Lovely smelling soaps and lotions, clean, and dark.
I am not familiar with the dining scene in this neck of the woods but I likely would give somewhere else a shot before returning here.
