Fun spot for drinks, NEVER for dinner.
Entrees: 3/10- terrible! chili's is even better lol
Decor: 9/10 - only redeeming factor
Waitstaff: 5/10
Menu: 5/10
Price: $$
The decor was great, there's nothing quite like it in Danbury. It has a romantic, rustic feel with wooden ceilings and painted chandeliers. There's red velvet curtains everywhere and damask velvet wallpaper. Lighting's very dark, almost too dark, as my party struggled to even read the menu, whipped out our phones.
The menu *seemed* good, they offer fishes like seared sea bass and salmon. Burgers, steaks, salads, and appetizers. But the seasoning on everything was... OFF. Maple glazed salmon? In honesty, it was grilled salmon drenched in Aunt Jemima syrup. Terrible. The side of rice was completely overcooked to the point of rice porridge. Everything was either bland, extremely salty or really sweet. ONE small piece of buttered bok choy was my vegetable. Hardly merits $21.
We waited a long time for a slow Thursday night, took the food 30 mins to get out. The rice was soggy and overcooked. The fish didn't look like it touched a grill. Somehow, when we took our first bite, it was radioactive HOT. I have a blister on my tongue to show for it. This tells me they definitely cooked the fish fast, realized it was undercooked, and hardcore microwaved it before bringing it out. Me and my friends spent our time poking jokes over our entrees.
The waitstaff. It wasn't a busy night. Yet somehow our waiter was AWOL. I'd occasionally see him slowly wandering in and out of the room barehanded, looking bored. I wanted to tell him the food was terrible, but honestly it was my birthday and didn't want to ruin the night. We just wanted to pay and get the HECK outta there!!!
A few key points you need to know:
Service seems to be lacking here. Â
Our food was good but it's on the pricey side.
Bathrooms are quite nice.
On to specifics...
Service: Rather apathetic. We were a party of 7 during lunch time in a mostly empty restaurant. Â Small things were off...My soda glass was empty several times and it took a while to get anyone's attention for a refill. No one came to check on us after our food was served. At this price point, I'd have expected these guys to be polished and on point. Not so much.
Food: I tried a wing, a few pieces of calamari, and then a salad with grilled scallops. Â It was all good, though the salad only came with three (not very large) scallops. The rest of the salad was dressed poorly and was filled with way too much radicchio. Â
Bathrooms: Lovely smelling soaps and lotions, clean, and dark.
I am not familiar with the dining scene in this neck of the woods but I likely would give somewhere else a shot before returning here.
Nice looking place food is just barely ok & not consistent...ambitious menu very enticing have been a few times as to not judge too quickly... got stuck with terrible seating tried the last time to make a reservation to avoid the crappy bar seating...they had no record if our calling 4 days in advance!!!! Again..stuck in the bar area (friday nite) with all the jersey shore wannabes at the bar gearing up for a drunk pissing contest across the street...ugh gross!!! Our waiter was clearly on something and was a total douche no class terribly unattentive just a disaster of a dude food..mediocre at best..go early & during the week for the best chance of it being worth it! Try cafe on the green, rraccis this place had potential but its just the same crap as Prespa same owner i heard just trying to cash in?! Clean it up!!!
Review Source:I wish I had read the reviews before we went. I had heard that the food was very good and the main dishes were okay. The mussels had alot of sand which I had never experienced. And the salad that comes with the meal is not worth having.
And unfortunately, like another reviewer, they are evidently not set up for "twos" in the main dining room. We did not want to sit in a noisy bar with music but we had to follow the hostess aimlessly until she arrange a table that was for four, for us---only two. There were nice booths available but she did not offer this to us.
Then straight in the line of what i looked at the whole evening was a booth that was never cleaned up. Â Servers were busy talking to each other until it got really busy.
Overall service was good but not sure that I would go back until they decide what type of restaurant they want to be.
Do not recommend. Â Waiter was not friendly at all, was confusing when we had questions about the menu and acted a bit like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. Â We ordered the Lobster roll and were very disappointed. Â It was (literally) served on a hamburger bun instead of the traditional roll. Â The fries that came with it were skinny and cold. Â Not what we expected at all for $14 a plate. I agree with the other post that it is odd they have the TV's going with the swanky decorating. Â Will not go there again!
Review Source:The place looks nice on the inside but is kind of randomly decorated. It looks like it is trying to be an upscale restaurant but then it had 2 tvs playing soccer and the Three Stooges being projected on the wall. The feeling that they couldn't decide what they wanted to do with the place was compounded when we looked at the menu and they had burgers and pizza next to veal dishes and filet mignon.
One thing that we found really odd is that some of the tables are set up family style where you might get sat with another party. Normally this isn't a problem for me, but when 80% of the tables are for small parties this struck me as odd. We also weren't asked if we were ok with that seating arrangement.
Our waitress was really awkward and we couldn't really hear her over the noise. She took eye contact as a sign to back away from the table and disappear for 20 minutes.
Overall, the food was great but the atmosphere is kind of off. May be the result of this place being fairly new still.
Was excited to go here but ended up being dissappointed. The restaurant looks massive - but actually only occupies a small part of the old Funstation space; however, the rest is in construction. The hostess informed us the current open area will become a bar - with a runway for fashion shows (!?) and the part in construction will be the dining area.
Started off with complimetary bread and dipping oil. Very tasty - but unfortunately the high point of the dinner. I had the Crabmeat Ravioli with white wine, garlic, and crispy leeks. The leeks were delicious, but the raviolis were just - eh. I wanted to like them! But they could've been stuffed with tuna for all my palette could identify - nothing  really "crabby" came through.
My boyfriend had the Blue Burger. I personally liked it - Â big juicy meat and lots of topping - but I like my burgers medium rare. He had ordered it medium and frankly, the thing came out mooing. Blood red except for a thin outside layer.
The service was - awkward. The guy we had came to our table way to often - and then not enough - and spilled twice. That combined with the burger - just not acceptable.
The place has potential - but I don't think a place should get 5 stars just for beautiful decor and a trendy menu - I need substance! I'll give Max 40 another chance - maybe they are still having opening jitters.
Go there if you want to feel hip and are willing to take a risk - the place looks very expensive and the menu is exciting but maybe unpredictable taste-wise. If you want dependable - maybe try Spasi across the street.
