The First and Last Cafe is a mere shadow of its former self, sad to say.  The white pizza with clams used to be quite wonderful, but when we ordered it last night it proved extremely disappointing.  The crust was thin and lacking in texture, and excepting for the clams (an additional $2.50) the pizza was quite tasteless.  The cheese was runny, rather than melted, and it had an off flavor I could not place right away.  After a bit I realized it tasted just like the sauce in the Joe Corbi white pizza kits the band kids sell as a fundraiser.  That doesn't make this the "best pizza" in my book.

Also, we had issues with the wine list, which was in such small print it was difficult to read, and the beer list which had no prices at all.  We ordered two beers, a Ten Penny Ale, and an Old Yankee Ale.  When the beer arrived at the table, we were disappointed to find the Ten Penny was not the normal beer, but the "Reserve" which had a very fizzy and citrus-y flavor which we didn't care for.  It was not marked as such on the beer list, which only said Ten Penny Ale.

However, the big shock was when the check arrived.  We were charged $37.50 for one pizza and two beers.  Apparently the Ten Penny Ale was $12 for one bottle!  Thank goodness we didn't like it, because if we had ordered a second it would have been $24 for two beers.  Exorbitant!  You would think if they were going to charge that much they would at least tell you in advance.

All in all, very disappointing.  We will not be returning.

I was a regular at the restaurant when Lynn and Peter 2 of my best friends owned the establishment .   Now the torch has passed to Adam and Nicole and as much as we miss some of the old dishes the ingenuity and remodel have been nothing but amazing.   I wish you both the best of luck on your journey in restaurant ownership . We appreciate you keeping with the traditional style of pizza that is famous and recognized for best pizza in the area . Good luck guys eventhough I don't think you will need it ........ LOVE THE FOREVER REGULAR

    Yummy.

This is some of the best pizza in Danbury, a city that has many excellent pizza places within its borders. The difference is the wood fired brick oven, responsible for that crispy crust, melty cheese, and slightly burnt exterior. Kinda reminds you of a Frank Pepe's, but with a self-inspired nature all its own.

It's a blue collar place, for sure. Pleather booths, paper placemats, old deteriorating interior. It's the perfect setting for brick oven pizza. Good for kids and adults alike.

They have specialty pies as well as regular food. I've never had the regular food, because frankly, you come here for the pizza. Second to none.

I went to dinner here last night and had pizza. The restaurant did get a face lift and looks alot better. No more 80's aerobics pictures hanging on the walls. They put this white paper over the table cloth. I don't really get it. I feel like I'm at the Doctor's office and it was kind of annoying to eat off of. Service was prompt and we placed our order. The pizza came out about 15 minutes later and was burned and I mean a black crust. I'm not sure why they even served it. When you cook a pizza you have to look at the crust to see if it's done. I had to send it back. The waitress was nice and even said she would not have eaten it. So we waited another 15 minutes for another pizza. The second pizza was cooked perfectly. My only issue is that there was alot of oregano on it which I don't remember them putting on before. The pizza doesn't need it and if a customer wanted it they could just ask for some.  When a restaurant messes up an order and the customer has to wait extra long to eat then I believe the customer's meal should be comped or discounted for the inconvenience which I wasn't. This is just good customer service. Their pizza is still very good but my dinner experience was not up to par.

My husband LOVES the pizza here, made by an Italian man from Brooklyn in his wood oven stove.

The food here has always been great, even right down to the spaghetti with meatballs! Their pizza is oven-baked, and the ingredients are always fresh. My favorite will always be the Fusilli with Chicken and Broccoli. It is cooked in garlic, and olive oil, and the way they prepare the chicken is very tasty. They pan fry it in some of the chicken broth.

I also love the white pizza! Might wanna try their bacon and tomato pizza as well. Great combo.

The calamari is to die for, and so is their Antipasto.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend is to have dinner there. Too noisy, rumbunctious, and the bar crowd isn't exactly fun to be around, if you want to have a nice, quiet, dinner.

Five stars for the pizza.  Forget everything else.  Its a dive, and more than a little shady, but they make the best pizza in Danbury and beyond.  You go in, pass through the bar, maybe get a few off-color comments from the characters who inhabit the joint, and then you see what matters: a big, smoke-belching wood oven.  Whoever makes the pizza here knows what they're doing -- this place is up there with Sally's and Pepe's (albeit different, style-wise).  Smoky crust, beautiful cheese and sauce.  Oh, and absolutely get the mushroom pie...its COVERED with whole black mushrooms.  Absolutely fantastic.  But remember: pizza to go.  Try not to get in a bar fight on your way out.

This is by far the best pizza Danbury has to offer, and one of my favorite pizza places of all time. After living in New York for a while, I felt that the food here might pale in comparison, but after returning home a couple weeks ago to one their gourmet pies, I was sorely mistaken. First & Last Cafe is a Danbury staple and a place everyone should check out.

BY far the best pizza in Danbury.  Whole fresh mushrooms, great calamata olives, crisp pepperoni, and the mozzarella - superb !!

This is really a sports bar that also serves mediocre Italian food. The restaurant part of the facility is an old wooden walled structure with a wooden floor that echoes everyone's conversations, including the complainijng of the kids at other tables.  Serivce was good and the waitstaff courteous. The menu is limited stressing veal and pasta dishes.  The bread served in a basket was hard and dry.  The mozzarella sticks were overcooked and hard diamond shaped cheese pieces served with a bland red suace. The French Onion Soup was a creamy soup without onion but smacking of garlic.  It should have been named creamy garlic soup..  The crouton served in the soup was a piece of Italian bread.  The salad had a few tasty olives and good onions but, save some standard Iceberg lettuce, lacked any other variety.  The dressings were standard out of the bottle fare.  Both Chicken dishes we had had another bland sauce on them, and the chicken had a dry tired chewy taste.  The drinks were ovepriced and the soda for the kids was served in small glasses without free refills at $1.25 each.  The prices for the dinners were above $15 each.  If you are looking for enjoyable food in a comfortable setting you can do much better at many places in the area.

Decent food, terrible service.  Went out for corporate lunch, food wasn't ready until 45 mins in order.  What escalated this poor review was when the gratuitous table bread came out with the food, again to emphasize my point, in 45 min.

This place is a slice of heaven (or New York) in Connecticut.

Following in the footsteps of such famous pizzerias as Totonno's, Patsy's, and Grimaldi's; The First and Last Cafe offers a gourmet, wood-fired, brick-oven pizza that is second to none.  What sets the First and Last apart from other eateries is the quality of food that it presents.  The pizza is made fresh to order (sorry no slices), with fresh mozzarella, sauce, and toppings.  The dough is cooked to perfection with a little crunch to it.  The Italian dishes are very tasty as well, continuing with the fresh ingredients motif.  The servings are more than adequate and taste is exceptional.  If you are ever in the Candlewood Lake area or around the Danbury Fair Mall, make it a priority to find this restaurant.

    Recommendations:
    Fresh salads are delicious
    Calamari is great
Pastas are fresh (my favorite fusilli with chicken and brocolli)
Pizza ( I love the garlic and sausage)
Chicken Parmesan grinder (best I've ever had)

Don't be fooled the First and Last Cafe is masked as a sports bar/dive bar, and the decorations aren't the best, but keep in mind that it's a family eatery and overlook these minor flaws to enjoy the most reasonably priced food in Fairfield County.   I can go on and on, but every time I'm in the area, this place is a mandatory stop.

This is a surprisingly good Italian restaurant with the best pizza I've ever had outside of New York.  The ambience is certainly lacking, but they make up for it with great New York style pizza that focuses on the subtle flavors of the fresh mozzarella a la Patsy's or John's.  If you're ever in the area, be sure to try it with fresh mushrooms and olives. Mmmm.
