Grumpy's Waterfront Grill

Too bad you can't give less than 1 star.  The place was a mess the afternoon we were there.  Arrived by boat, climbed to the top of the stairs and was greeted by a waitress named Whitney that appeared to be under the influence of some type of drug or drugs.  She was dirty, mean, foul mouthed, obnoxious and acted as if we were an inconvenience to her day.  Unfortunately, she was also the person that would be waiting on us.  The place was less than half full and the tables that were open had not been cleaned, so we had to wait till someone decided to take it upon themselves to clean one.  When this Whitney person came back to take our order (we had not been given menus, place settings or asked if we wanted something to drink) we decided to give it a little longer and ordered drinks and appetizers.  It took 15 minutes to deliver 4 beers and 3 soft drinks and 40 minutes to get our appetizers, all the while with this waitress acting like we were the problem and not treating us as paying customers.  Well, the appetizers were miserable and we decided not to waste anymore time or money so we left to eat at Shuckers in Saint Albans.  This used to be a nice place where you could count on consistent food with decent service, even when the place was crowded.  Now, I can't say anything nice about Grumpy's and even less about the waitress that ruined their chance of us coming back.

This place has a great atmosphere with outside dock. It could easily be one of the best places to eat in the Charleston area. The problem is inconsistency. My first visit my burger was A+++ one of the best I have ever had, toasted bun with a spear through it and a pickle very yum. But the last two times, no spear, no pickle, regular buns not toasted straight from the bag and very uninspiring. Waited 15 min to be seated with the place about 30% full. Noticed dirty glass doors the staff travels through to go inside to get your drinks and food, made me want to get a bottle of windex and clean them myself (and im not even a clean freak) Such a nice place to see it not at its full potential. I will give this place another try and hope it will be a better experience than the last two. I want to see this place thrive.
