New owners have run this place into the ground!  This used to be one of the best Sushi places in Indy and was always packed.  You can tell it has gone downhill when you are seated right away on a Friday night.  It is now overpriced with small portions of mediocre sushi.

Excellent sushi, ranked in order of tastiness:

    #1 Two Brothers Roll
    #2 Lottery Roll
    #3 The Crazy Ho Roll

Waiter was excellent, recommended the hot-out-of-the-oven oatmeal cookie w/ coffee whipped cream for dessert. Heavenly!

Fantastic meal from start to finish. My Manhattan was perfectly made, the grilled shrimp tacos got us off to a great start, and the sushi that followed was fresh and delicious. We shared Tuna Nigiri and three rolls (Two Brothers, John Doe, and Chef's Special). Finally, we ended the evening with an oatmeal cookie each, topped with espresso cream. My fiance and I would both highly recommend everything we had tonight.

Absolute love!!!! The sushi is the best in Indy, the people are fantastic & I crave the cookies. Whatever you do, save room for dessert. Better yet, order them to go... That's what I do.

I have only been to eat at H20 once and it was years ago on a date. There are good reasons why I haven't been back in years. First of all, it never looks like this place is open. They have the most uninviting exterior ever. The rolls are TINY and EXPENSIVE. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny if you eat there. I have had a lot of sushi at a lot of different sushi bars in Indianapolis and beyond. I was not impressed at all. I actually thought the sushi here was pretty gross. It was so bad, in fact, that my date and I barely ate anything, left the restaurant starving, and went directly to Union Jack's in Broad Ripple and devoured an order of nachos. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

We read reviews on Yelp and decided to try it.  It was ok.
The waitress had a hole in her sweater right in the middle of her belly.  It looked bad.
The service was ok, nothing special.  The decor was modern with abstract painting hanging around, wooden tables, and metal & wood chairs that were not very comfortable.
They offer the traditional starters of miso soup and edamame, but also offer these with optional flavors and spices, your choice.
    Downer:  they didn't have Gyoza.

We tried the Black Edamame. I don't remember the spices, but on our opinion it wasn't as good as the traditional garlic salt.  Next we tried the miso soup with added rice, seaweed, and avocado, along with tofu.  It was only ok. Loved the avocado slices, but the seaweed was too much for me.

Sushi rolls: Two Brothers, Cuban Cigar, and ...(?) Ho.
All of these were Very Good!!!

Desert!!!  Not to be missed!!!  Nothing like it out there.
Warm Oatmeal cookies with this yummy Expresso whipped creme.

We drove across town to try it...  but we like the sushi restaurant by us much better.
Oishi Sushi at 10th & Shadeland.  Comfortable chairs/booths, traditional oriental decor, a lot more variety of rolls, gyoza, miso soup, it's just better.

The best way to review a sushi restaurant in my opinion is to rank my favorite sushi restaurants.  H20 gets 5 stars, Naked Tchopstix gets 4 stars, Sakura 3 stars, Ocean World 3 stars.  Sushi is always fresh at H2O, service is great, atmosphere is cool.  It's a little pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Since we moved from San Francisco to Indy, the only place that makes us feel that we are eating real sushi is at H2O. Nick remembers us, makes us special rolls based on our preference, and certainly makes us feel welcomed.
The food is well priced, the atmosphere casual enough for a nice date, yet, not full of kids wanting to look cool eating sushi and drinking sake bombs.
    We love H2O.

Great restaurant. Went here last week with my girlfriend. We got three sushi rolls and four pieces of nigiri and an order of edamame for just under $60. The only negative is that they have a relatively limited menu for sushi (only 12 or so different rolls and many of them spicy) but all their ingredients are local. The food was fresh and yummy and we'll definitely be going back again sometime soon.

If you are looking for a traditional sushi bar...this is NOT your place.  This new-age sushi place boasts more than sushi.  Their specials are killer!  I have been here around a dozen times and I have never been disappointed.  The sushi rolls are a little small but super creative.  They incorporate many non-traditional sushi flavors and foods but it works!!  I love sitting at the sushi bar in all places because what a better way to find out whats best on the menu?  The chef's here are great and willing to make recommendations depending on whats fresh.  As much as I love the sushi here I always try one of their specials as well because they are ALWAYS awesome.  The plates are pretty small but that just means more room for sushi! :)  I had the scallops on special last time and they were seriously perfect.  Scallops can go so wrong but there were tender and not chewy...yum.  Lastly, you HAVE to save room for the cookies with espresso cream.  I don;t tend to love coconut or cookies in general that much but I swear these cookies must have crack in them because they are SO GOOD.  This place is a pretty pricy but overall definitely worth it.

I am a big fan of H2O Sushi. I've been there a couple times in the past month and both times made me question why I don't go way more often.

From start to finish, it's all really inspiring and well-done.

First, the cocktails are really amazing. They have one called "Ginger Not Mary Anne" that I just love. It's a ginger-lemon concoction that is just delicious. I'm kind of a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, but the rest of the cocktails on the menu looked equally interesting and quaffable. I was interested, but I had to drive home!

The appetizers are also really, really good. The pork bun is so, so good (it's sharable if you're not very hungry, but if you're starving--or you really like pork belly...get one per person). Also, they are doing something I've never seen before with edamame--they're serving them marinated in one of two different sauces. I've always gotten the Suzy which has jalapenos, cilantro, and soy. Let me just tell you...if I had ONE less manner, I would lick the bowl. I'm not kidding. They're addictive. It's the kind of taste you dream about later in the week. Don't let the jalapenos scare you...these are totally not spicy.

For the main, I always do one of their awesome sushi rolls. They had a special Lin roll which I loved, but it's not a regular. They had a Koream Bibimbap that I really wanted to try the last time I was in, but I was already full from lots of appetizer.

Okay, dessert. Please, please leave room. The shagbark cookie (they serve two and are huge, definitely sharable) is one of the best I've ever had. And it's served with espresso whipped cream. They also have a selection of gelatos and sorbets that change frequently and are unusual and the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner.

When I wrote my first review, I said that H2O wouldn't replace our neighborhood sushi place ... but sadly, it has ... now I have to make the drive from Noblesville to Broad Ripple to get my sushi and cookie fix.  H2O continues to kick out amazing and original rolls ... love the cilantro, basil, and super-thin slices of citrus that give the rolls such a unique zip.  The non-sushi dishes are also phenomenal, especially when guacamole and skirt steak is involved.  But those cookies and espresso whip remain the real draw for me.  Every time I go, I kick myself for not just ordering these as a first course.

Service is hit or miss ... better when they're not so busy, rushed when they are.  Last time I was there, the waitress was clearing plates even as we were taking our last bites ... I get it, you're busy, just bring us the cookies and we'll be on our way.  If you want a better service experience, I recommend visiting on a weekday night.  I still don't have the heart to drop a star due to the service, because it's just the best damned sushi and dessert in town.

Superb New School Sushi...I think among the best, if not the best in Indy.

This should be considered and excellent restaurant that happens to have a well done sushi bar.

What is often missed here in reviews...are the incredibly well prepared and creative non-sushi items on the menu...and specials that are seasonal and obviously ever changing.

This is an excellent place to go for dinner should you have an "I hate sushi" person in your entourage.

I think Kara F experience is an aberration.  I have found the service to be good....more relaxed and affable than stuffy and polished.

    Try the sparkling sake !

Had a great time here.  I don't remember what rolls we ordered, but they were all fresh and tasty.  Save room for the warm cookie with caffeine free espresso whipped cream.

If you're on Foursquare, get free edamame with your first check in.  Beware though, I think ours were microwaved, rather than steamed, as some were super hot and some were lukewarm to downright cold.

Service was great, server was knowlegeable on the saki selection (tip, get 4 oz of hot house saki for $4).

If you are wondering where to park, it's BEHIND the building.  Also, be sure when you are seated that you aren't in the line of any of the overhead lamps.  Once seated, we had to ask to move because a light was shining right in my face like I was under interrogation.

The BEST place to get sushi in Indianapolis... and along the way you may make some new friends. The staff here is FANTASTIC. I love H2O.. and surprisingly it competes with the best spots on the West coast. And not only is the sushi great but there are awesome sorbets and cookies for desert. And if you are a pork eater (not me), all of my friends (and the Indianapolis Monthly) swear by the pork bun. Don't take my word for the place, try it yourself!

Lobster risotto!! This was my first and only time visiting here. I used to live almost right next to H20...All those wasted years I spent going to Sakura (which I love) but it was right next door all that time.

Fresh delicious and inventive! I loved this place. I spent $60 on my own if that gives you any indication of how much I enjoyed it! The Pork Belly Buns were absolutely amazing, the tuna and fluke nigiri fresh and delicious, and those cookies are to die for! You must try this place!

    Uhhhh... where do I start?

Reservations by our good friends were made, and thanks to them showing up before us pork buns were ordered and being prepared as we sat down. Man, my anticipation was at full steam; now that I know in retrospect those local pork'd pork buns were being steamed and made as we were approaching... my anticipation to write this review is growing / salivating.

Sun King Osiris in the can is served promptly and freshly. As I sipped my first sips I really took in the space: proper sushi bar in back, four top tables scattered throughout the well-lit room, and then some crazy beautiful enormous art on the wall. If you ask me... a restaurant is the best place for art to be displayed. They can be working galleries, really. We're a bit of a chained audience where we can spend a sustained amount of time looking at the art work rather than grazing through a gallery.

Snow Crab Sashimi? Yes, please! Whole crab legs: a simple and glorious achievement of Mother Nature. The tablemates agreed: Crab 7. Lobster 0.

Wait, back to the pork buns: local, fresh pork delicious-ness in a steamed bun handheld & slightly open face.

Edamame garnished with something sweeter than usual... scallions?

    Then came the rolls.

*Instant Karma: it's basil wrapped. Perfect.
*Something with lemon thrust-ed into the salmon. Perfect. Wait, was that the instant karma roll? I'm still in a sushi haze...
    *Spicy Tuna Roll. Perfect.
*Although my memory has lost me on this one... I can say that I'll stand by this statement: this is the best sushi in the city. yes, I haven't been to One World just yet. But H2O has it's sushi gloves on, ready to go head-to-head.

Dessert: Whoa. Epic. Sure, "epic" is used pretty lightly round the yelpiverse. But I'm not kidding. Epic.

*Salted Ovaltine Ice Cream / Gelato amazingness
    *Blueberry Lavender
    *Cinnamon

That was just absurdly good. I'd come here for that ice cream alone.

    Oh, wait there's more:

*Crazy oatmeal cookie warm from the oven with espresso creme. Uh huh. That was just the best damn cookie I've ever had. After I had it... I realized I had it at Goose, but this was warm from the oven and with this just plain badass espresso creme.

*Creme Brulee. Classic. With a candied walnut twist.

Is that it? I do believe so.

Oh lord, there's more: brownie with some crazy pears.

    My goodness that was terrific.

It should be known, I didn't eat for 18 hours after this meal. It makes sense now that I listed everything. I have no idea how we did it. And, I have no idea how they do it with their vast menu from sushi to non-sushi amazing local farmed specials to that nutty dessert menu. I've seriously never seen a dessert menu at a sushi place like this.

In the end, an incredibly welcome respite from the rest of Indy. I felt transported, and, to me, that's the ultimate for fine dining.

I admit I kind of stopped going here when ownership changed. I gave it another try on my birthday. My 40th!  Now while some may look at this a an opportunity to tie one on, my birthday is in the middle of December and along with all the usual 'extras' it's one of my busiest months. And did I mention it was my 40th?  Partying isn't in my vocabulary anymore. Not calling myself a old lady but ... Anyway. The review:  I was exhausted from a 14 hour day. Looked like a drowned rat as it had rained and snowed that day. And the server absolutely made my night!  I think her name was Sara but maybe Rebecca ( it was almost 2 months ago :(
She was very friendly but not in the fake " I just want a bigger tip" kind of way .. all suggestions were outstanding and I even tried her suggestion of sparkling saki after my glass if champagne. I had the h2o version of a BLT called the ELT. Eel lettuce tomato. Soooooooo goooood!  The eel was smoked in a way that certainly reminded me of what I remember bacon tasting like and I used to turn my nose up at eel. !  Try the Tuna appetizer even if you don't think you like raw tuna!  It's worth a trip just for that. Oh and the cookie and espresso dip   !!!  Oh and the coffee is served with your very own coffee press ( although you can share if you want ). I have been back recently just for the coffee and cookies for desert ;)
Well done!  Glad the ownership issues seem settled!
Fun. New. Great art!  Don't let the contemporary feel scare you away. The servers are witty and smart and very good at making suggestions!

Okay, so I haven't actually eaten the food at H20 Sushi. BUT, nonetheless, my experience there managed to be bad enough to share with the world.

I had heard good things about H20 Sushi, so I went there on a date a few days ago. The restaurant's parking lot is in the back, so we entered through the back door. But then it didn't seem to be meant as an entrance, despite being a pretty prominent door, so someone asked us to wait at the front. There were two couples ahead of us, and two tables happened to open up within about 5 minutes so they got seated. We, on the other hand, waited for at least 10 minutes, and no one working there acknowledged us. Not even a glance from a waiter. Nothing.

Some people came in after us, saw the long line, and quickly gave up. As we grew more impatient, my date then made a phone call. I overheard him say "How long is the wait right now? 30 minutes? Okay thanks." That's right. He had to CALL the restaurant we were standing in to get someone to talk to us. As outraged as we were, this place was so pathetic, we laughed the whole time we walked out the door.

I'm still curious to try the food here, so I promise to update this review when I do. But this is a fair warning that the service is shockingly terrible.

We made 8 o'clock reservations, were greeted warmly, and the sushi was amazing. Places like this are why I can't pick up grocery store sushi and pretend to enjoy it. It can't compare with the fresh tuna and delicious rolls we enjoyed tonight. And give the oatmeal (and many other ingredients) cookie dessert a try- it was the perfect ending to a wonderful night out. It had been 3 years since I had been there. I will not be waiting that long again!

My wife and I have been here a few times over the past couple of years, and H2O Sushi seemed to have lost its luster. However, we came back in May for our 1st Anniversary (it was the site of our first date), and we were blown away by how good the food was. We've been back twice since and have been similarly impressed. The tuna tartare is the best I've had in Indy, and it's as good as anything I can remember. The heirloom tomato salad (in season) was wonderful. Also, make sure that you try any dish that has Viking lamb as an ingredient. We had a surf and turf roll that substituted seared, carpaccio-thin Viking lamb for the seaweed wrapper. I still daydream about it once in awhile.

The wine list isn't large, but it's well thought out. A lot of the selections are interesting and from small production or boutique wineries.

I highly recommend H2O Sushi. I think it's better than it's ever been.

Another great (if a bit pricey compared to other local sushi) dining experience.

Food was excellent. Had a variety of rolls. The seasonal Indiana tomato salad was AMAZING - best I've ever had.

Dessert was great - get the cookies if you haven't had them.

    Service was good. Friendly. Prompt.

Music was perfect: downtempo low-key hip hop. Handsome Boy Modeling School. DJ Shadow. Danger Mouse & Jemini.

With its dim lighting, nice choice of beers, and good service, this is the kind of place I could hang out in for hours if the prices were a bit lower and the chairs a bit cushier.

We went last year on Valentine's Day.  While I've had better sushi, we were not disappointed.  Expect a small modern/asian fusion type of setting rather than a more tradational sushi bar.  Prices are reasonable, but should not be considered cheap.  We'd go again for a special ocassion.

    Holy expensive sushi, Batman!

H2O is good, don't get me wrong. But for $100, I would have expected to be a bit more wowed.

The service was excellent. I think our server is doing himself a disservice by working at H2O. With his formal attitude and extensive menu knowledge, I think he would be better suited at St. Elmo's or Morton's. He was attentive and efficient - but H2O seems a little too hip and contemporary for that kind of server.

Speaking of hip, the decor is... for the most part. The art on the walls is different and interesting - does anyone know if it's from local artists? The green neon light around the sushi bar is a little cheesy and doesn't really fit with the rest of the motif.

Anyway, the food. The nigiri was fresh. The tuna wasn't melt-in-your-mouth like it is at some places (Asaka, Kokoro), but it was tasty. They don't have a lot of choices in this department - I'd say seven or eight kinds of fish.

One of our dining partners tried the special udon noodle soup - it had a poached quail egg and various other goodies in it, topped with a huge prawn tempura. It looked delicious and they said it was very good, just needed a bit more broth to even things out.

The rolls... again, they were good, but nothing outstanding. We tried the Two Brothers which has salmon, tuna, cilantro and is topped with a tiny sliver of lime. Very fresh, very tasty... but nothing like Naked Tchopstix where I am constantly surprised at the combination of flavors they cram into one little roll. I also played it safe and ordered their "Ultimate California" roll - don't waste your time. It tastes exactly like a California (albeit a good one, since they use snow crab instead of that icky lye-soaked whitefish).

The did offer some interesting beer selections... a rice ale from The Great Divide, a microbrewery in Denver (I think it tasted like a more intense Blue Moon) and New Belgium's 1554 Black Ale.

The dessert is really what stood out for me. Two little scoops of homemade ice cream, each a different flavor. We chose Persimmon and Salted Pistachio. Both were amazing! Our dining partners got the Oatmeal Date Bars and were equally as impressed.

Our bill for two people having edamame, seven different kinds of nigiri, two rolls, one beer, a green tea and the dessert came to $93 and some change. I know that sounds like a lot, but if we'd gone to Asaka during their happy hour, the bill would have been half as much and would have been just as good, if not a bit better.

I would go back here for dessert without question, but for sushi, I'll stick to someplace less expensive or more creative.

H2O Sushi is one of my favorite restaurants in Indy - sushi or otherwise.  The atmosphere is cool and contemporary.  The tuna tartar appetizer is excellent and great for sharing.  The sushi is fresh and original.  My favorite is the Joe Pesci roll, which has tuna, avocado, jalapeno and fresh cilantro.  Hubby loves the Aloha roll, which has crab, avocado, cucumber and is topped with seared ahi.  The rolls topped with lime (sliced incredibly thin) are excellent and refreshing.

The wine list is less than spectacular but acceptable.

I have to agree with Jennifer L.  that the warm cookies with espresso whipped cream are wonderful.

Great date spot although it sometimes gets a little loud.

NOT your regular sushi place. That's good and bad--bad if you like super fresh tuna with little accompaniment as your sushi. Good if you're experimental and don't mind things like basil and lemon slivers--rind-on--in your sushi.

Everyone that's been here knows that dessert is half the allure. Co-owner Nicole Anderson makes her own ice cream in different flavors. But her Maple pecan cookies with espresso whipped cream are the real talk of the town. That cookie is salty sweet, and you can really taste the butter. Paired with the airy whipped cream, it's heavenly.
