the chicken wings used to be the best in Yuba City, sadly that isn't true anymore , Don't know what they did( maybe it took to long to prepare the wings the way they used to) but you can now buy wings just as good at walmart and that aint saying much for their wings. They used to be so good ! They will be missed

being this is a small town with this establishment with a comfortable environment, clean, staff is friendly, wide selection on menu, good service and food. a variety of tv's tuned to different sports, not too big, you see families with kids.
(being a parent i wouldnt and havent taken my kids in being alcohol and i dont feel adults should watch there mouths if they are enjoying themselves in an adult atmosphere so screw all you other parents who give the eye, look or snarl when others are cursing, drinking and having a good time. i say leave the kids at home, find somewhere else to go or deal with it- its a bar at the end of the day!!! So you dont look like a good parent for taking your child to a "sports bar!" again im a parent and wouldnt or havent taken my kids there not only out of respect for them but for myself and others.)

parking is street, not the great and able to park on side streets. not recommended for large groups, maybe 10 or less not much seating.

this is not a dancing spot, no bands or music, no karaoke, no pool  table, few kid games but tv's with sports on. not sure on choice of alcohol but from menu seems they have a wide variety.

Nice sports bar with a wide beer selection and good wings.

Came here for lunch one day when I was in town visiting my sister. I tried the Happy Viking ale, which was dark in color but light in flavor. It was pretty good. The menu is expansive and offers great choices. Their wings take about 20 minutes to make since they're cooked from scratch upon ordering. The garlic fries are delicious and a must order when here. I had the Baby Bleu burger which was massive and flavor loaded. I could only eat 1/2 of it.

Overall, it was a nice lunch spot and I would probably think about visiting the place more often if I lived in the area.

So many beers on tap it makes it hard to choose!! But the staff is usually good about helping me make up my mind.  They never rush you out so you can enjoy an entire evening here, watching a sports game or just having a good time with friends!

Beer selection is big but now 646 beers on tap sorry sarah...came here on a Tuesday which apparently are days where they have a really good special. It was happy hour, it was busy, but we got seated pretty fast, got lucky actually a booth  just got done eating and were walking out so the hostess cleaned the table and we were seated. Beer selection was a wide range I usually stick to the IPA's ordered the hop ottin and the 90 min. Drinks lagged a little bit on the time but again it was busy. Food lagged a lot but I blame the company I was in, somebody had to order the steak! :) I enjoyed the food greatly, the beer was divine I will definitely return! Tuesday special didn't interest me but it was $2.00 pint....enough said.

First things first lets's get the worst thing about the place out the way. The Service: It's not bad, actually really polite and friendly, Just SLOW. Everything I've tried on the menu has been pretty-really good. If you like beer they have everything to quench your thirst. Overall a good place to grab a beer and some food if you're not in a hurry.

This place is really fun if you are really in to sports, but if you are going just to eat with a friend or your husband and want to talk, go somewhere else or make sure there is no big game going on. The food is pretty good though. My husband got the Monster burger and it sure lives up to its name in size. Very big!

Fifty-five beers on tap, need i say more?  Rather than ask the waitress to rattle 'em all off, I ask for a Shock Top.  That's the one they don't have!!  I had a Blue Moon.  It arrived cold enough and well before my soup and salad.  All-in-all pretty good.  Three stars instead of 4 though as the service from the kitchen was kinda lacking.  The waitress said they were extra busy for a Monday and were understaffed for the crowd.
This is a sports-bar and this was the first day of Baseball Season.  Of course you're going to be busier!  Ya gotta anticipate such things.

I've gone here a few times and I'm just not impressed. The service is generally slow, although the servers are nice. The drinks have been weak and expensive, the patrons rather unruly and the staff does nothing about it. And I'm not talking late night crowds, I'm talking 7pm crowds of drunk twenty-somethings forcing their girlfriends to simulate fellatio. Just overall offensive behavior and when you say something to the staff, they kinda just shrug. Wow, this makes me sound old. Anyway, when I go out, I don't want to have to worry about being repeatedly bumped into by loud mouth frat boy bro wannabes. So if you're into that, head on down to the Viking. Also, look to spend about $60-70 per person. That's what the average is for an appetizer and a few drinks. Especially with a decent sized group, since they add a gratuity on their own without notifying you beforehand.

    * Huge beer selection. I mean huge:  I think, like, 646 on tap? Sounds right. My fav: the Wyder's Pear Cider. SO good from a tap. YUM.
    * Veganfriends: The garlic fries are awesome, super good... they're beer battered, tossed in roasted garlic, olive oil, & herbs... to make animal-goober free, just ask for nooo Parmesan cheese.
    * My husband loves the Irish tacos
    * There are something like 20+ sauces made in-house, ranging from mild to face-melting. Some are vegan! Ask you server.
    * They have a spicy wing challenge! The Sadistic Challenge. (Can we do it with the fries, Mr. Viking? For your veg-head friends?)
    * I kind of love the interior. Lots of TVs, always some sport on. I'm jealous of their neon sign collection. And I LOVE the table tops! Distressed butcher block. Rad.
    * Great for kids: kinda loud, kid friendly food, and lots of arcade games. This is NOT an intimate, romantic date night place.
    * Parking on Plumas Street can be a bitch, especially on Friday/Saturday nights... just park on a side street, you're gravy.
    * Our servers have always been super nice.

Verdict: GO! It's a fun place to hang out, watch some sort of sporting event.

The Happy Viking seems like a great place to hang out with friends or to watch a game with some beers.  However, I didn't enjoy the food.  I ordered a jalapeno burger smothered with chili.  I thought it would be a tasty, messy burger that I could indulge in, but I wasn't able to finish it.

I couldn't handle the texture of the meat.  It was a patty that wasn't made of ground meat, but looked like it was made of meat shredded like noodles.  It's hard to explain because I've never seen anything like it.  I didn't want to waste my food and tried to get my husband to eat it, thinking he might like the taste of it somehow.  But his first words were "I can't eat this" which is shocking for a guy I swear could win a competition for bizarre foods.  I felt really bad for wasting food, but I just couldn't do it... Maybe I just made the wrong choice because the fried pickles my friend ordered were pretty good.  I wouldn't recommend my burger though!

My friend found a piece of bone in her sandwich too.

I can say that when she brought it up, they were really nice about it though and very professional.  They asked if she wanted another meal and she settled for some soup.  The wait staff was exceptionally friendly.  The food, however, I'm not too sure about...

I do believe in second chances though, so i'll have to try this place again for further review.

since this restaurant will not make good on their offer of a free appetizer, as stated on the River Vally High School Football discount card that was purchased to support RVHS, we will no longer make weekly trips to their establishment. We went in for dinner & ordered our 'FREE APPETIZER' as stated on the discount card we purchased for $20.00 from an RVHS student. We were told there was a typo on the card by the waitress, the manager said he'd never seen this promotion, then he said we needed to buy 2 entree's in order for the card to be valid. Hmmmmm, that's not what the card says & he should have stepped up to the plate & honored it anyway. The deal is only good for one use...(apparently not!). It wasn't like we were coming in regularly JUST to get free fries! Happy Viking, WE WON'T be back! And i will make a complaint to River Valley High School so they do not promote you in further business dealing.

We've lived in the area for over three years now and I can say without a doubt Happy Viking gets better and better. Hands down, the Happy Viking is the best food in a 40 mile radius. The waitresses are attentive and pleasant, the variety is outstanding and the atmosphere is welcoming. This area can be a desert for foodies but this place could stand up in any town as one of the best.

This place is much more then a beer joint, they also have some really great food.I'm not a salad guy but their Tri Tip Salad made me a fan. I have had a wide sampling of the menu and have yet to be disappointed. If your rolling through town or live here, The Happy Viking is a great place for lunch or dinner.

Love this place!  I visit every time I am in town.  The pizza is fantastic and my husband loves the huge selection of beer and wings.  My daughter loves, loves, loves the homemade mac'n'cheese and my favorite is the Calypso Salad.  The service was fast and friendly.  I can't wait to go back for a game next time on the  new LED 70 inch TV!

Came here two days ago and was able to get a shrimp taco and a fish taco and today I was told that each shrimp and fish taco only come in 3's and that I cannot order it ala carte. There only option for me was to order it as it was on the menu or leave, so I decided to leave. As a paying customer I should have a choice of what I want to eat and not have my choices stipulated by your menu or your back of house manager.  Although the food may be good I will not be back for lack of customer service and will make sure my colleagues who also travel with me know what type of service I received.

Happy Viking has got as many tapped beers as they have TV screens as they have beer labels lining the bathroom walls! It's a spacious sports bar atmosphere with TONS of brew to choose from, and the food is not bad also. Plus they've got a little arcade area near the back entrance.

A word about the "sadistic" hot wing challenge: DO NOT take it lightly. Hubbie is a spice fanatic... he's always complaining that food advertised as spicy is never spicy enough. Happy Viking's wing challenge both shut his mouth and opened it (aka: he threw up before we left the restaurant). So give some serious thought to those ghost peppers before signing the consent form!

Came here to get a beer!  The special was "The Happy Viking"... an amber beer unfiltered.  For only $2  how can I go wrong.  Well.. I am not a fan of it.  I found it lacking taste or boldness for being an amber.   I could not drink more of it, so I ordered a Sam instead.

I was visiting a friend (Yelper Friend) in Yuba City and just wanted a beer before driving back to Grass Valley.  If you are going to have a beer I recommend Garlic fries to go with your beer.    The fries here are a special house Garlic Fries and honest I really thought they are the perfect blend--not over powering in taste.  My friend thought it was over powering in smell.  Oh.. ummm   They tasted wonderful--even though my social moment may not have been so welcomed. LOL.

Service was good, but not very fast.  Over all.. and OK... but I will come back.... Something like 52 beers on tap.

The food is great and the staff is friendly but only go to Happy Viking if you have plenty of time to spare! I've given them multiple chances and they still can't seem to get an order out in less than an hour, when they aren't even busy!

A really cool sports bar! Good service and great food. The place is set in the downtown strip of Yuba City. I was promptly greeted and seated even though the place was packed. TVs on all sides so you don't miss any of Sunday's football action. I ordered the Mediterranean chicken sandwich. This is a good sandwich. I also ordered a slice of Cheesecake with Bailey's Irish Cream topping for dessert and it was delicious!

Overall a great sports bar for this area! I will definitely try it again.

I am really upset that I had not written a review of the Happy Viking until now.  We've been there twice and enjoyed it very much.  It's a good place to stop anytime of the day.  We usually plan it as part of our bike ride.

The first visit we split the Prime Rib burger and black and tan beer battered onion rings.  We were extremly delighted with the onion rings and the burger was also exceptional.

On our second visit we tried the Reuben.  It was also very good.  We haven't had a bad dish so far.  I like the sports bar motif, too.

Great food, great people and great prices! Not to mention more beers than I can drink on tap. If you pass through the Yuba City / Marysville area, make sure you stop by.

Gotta thank Greg @ SOS for introducing me to your place!

Really wanted to give this place a higher rating because the atmosphere is great for a sports bar. Two things killed this for me...a waitress who I can only describe as super dumb and warm beer. I asked the waitress if they carried Woodford, and she tilted her head and said "What's that?" practically twirling her hair as she stared at me. Ummm...If you don't know, go ask the bartender? So after explaining to her what it was, and personally confirming by getting up to see that they did indeed have it, I finally got my drink. Yippee!

Another person in my party ordered the beer sampler but unfortunately most of the selections were room temperature and not chilled. And trust me, some of the varieties selected should have been served icy. Luckily, our awesome waitress came by to ask me if I wanted another one of my "thingies". Repeat after me...Woodford.

Definitely not looking forward to a return trip.

I've read through a lot of the reviews posted previously, and at first, I was very skeptical about visiting this place. But me and a buddy decided to make Sunday night football a ritual and started off the night of the Giants/Colts game by visiting the Happy Viking. And what can I say? I don't regret it the least bit!

First off, the location is well-suited to your Sunday/Monday night football crowd: plenty of room and plenty of tables for a group of friends watching the game. There are flat-screens abound, strategically-located so regardless of where you sit, you always have view of the game. It's clean, well kept, and relatively safe.

The bar is a wonder all to itself. A great liquor selection coupled with no less than a few dozen beers on tap, from domestic to microbrews to imports (chances are that if you want it, they have it on tap for you). Prices range from about what you'd expect considering the different brews, but they often have drink specials to ease the burden on your wallet.

The food is also noteworthy, and like any decent sports bar, they have their own unique wings to go with your brew. I especially love the honey chipotle wings, although I tend to go through beer a lot faster after eating them!

A crucial piece I took away from most of the other reviews was service. If the service was poor before, I don't think you'd recognize it now. Service on nearly all of my visits to the Happy Viking was great, even outstanding, with the sole instance forgiven (waitress was new).

All in all, the Happy Viking was not what I expected; it's a great place to drink some beer, eat some wings, and watch the game, and I'm glad my skepticism was proven wrong!

Ok. Ok. This update has been waaaay overdue!

I've been forced to visit the Viking a few times since my horrible review. I am happy to report much has improved! From customer service, to the food, to the tap that hasn't ran empty in a long time!

    Few honorable mentions:

    - A friendly waitress named Heather that takes fantastic care of us, even when we get rowdy, obnoxious and accidentaly break a beer glass...or two. :o)
    - The bartenders on Sunday morning that have their you know what together and keep the beers coming especially when my Cowboys are losing.
    - The consistant menu that stil features great calamari, mojo chicken wings, and jalapeno poppers. YUM!!!

Mushroom burger was great and onion rings.

Overall great little bar and eatery.

I've never had a problem here.

Love going here for a casual night out.  So many beers to try, wait staff is great at suggestions, always friendly and have never had a problem with food or drinks being late or not refilled.  Servers have never forgot anything and have always been prompt.  (And I've been here 20+ times probably.)

Food is basic bar/pub food, which is fine with me.  Pizza is pretty good, and the wings are great.  We go during happy hour for the .50 mojo wings.

Definitely recommend this place if you want to stay in town and have a good time.  Only place we go out in Yuba City.

I have to be honest.  The reviews of the apparently atrocious service only made me want to visit this place more, with morbid hopes of coming out of it with a crazy story to tell.  But alas, I came out with merely a tummy full of beer and a drunk wobble.

I went with my boyfriend on a Saturday night, and it was incredibly crowded.  We made our way to the far corner of the bar near the kitchen, and managed to flag down one of the bartenders pretty quickly.  She was super nice and complimented my dress after laughing at my boyfriend's Tinkerbell credit card (duly deserved).  We got our beers and stood awkwardly amongst various circles of drunk jocks and bimbos, eyeing the tables like vultures.  After some time the late-dinner folks started to clear out and the place became much less crowded, and we found a seat near the back door/arcade area.  I had a few more beers and wished I could have even more from the ridiculously large/heavenly selection (in Yuba City, what?!), but it was getting late and I'm turning into an old lady when it comes to drinking anymore.

Before we left we both hit the bathroom, and I didn't even have to wait!  No line for the women's restroom?  WHAT?!  I was finished before my boyfriend.  This was nothing short of miraculous to me.  I know this has nothing to do with the bar itself and it was merely good karma on my side (ha), but it was just too glorious.  I even got to enjoy the bathroom all to myself, and it wasn't vomit-inducing either.  This is difficult -- nay, impossible -- to say for most bar restrooms.

We didn't get any food, and I honestly don't understand why anyone complains about bar food in the first place.  At a place that serves that much beer on tap, you really can't expect five-star dining.  Get a beer, eat some pizza, realize it's sub-par, and get some more beers and forget you ever even had the pizza.

Overall, decent sports bar, typical crowd, and a winner for the beer selection alone.

So to start the first event happened about a year and a half ago...
My husband and I were going to the Happy Viking for the first time after hearing great things from our 'younger' friends. When we walked in the door we saw it was slightly busy but not overrun, the hostess asked how many people and then said it would be 30 minutes. (Longer than we would normally wait for a table.) Then she looked at my husband and said, "Blue Hat". We both laughed noticing she was actually giving him his title by which she was writing our seating down. But while that was humorous it was not bad customer service.

We stood by the door waiting for our table. A few feet away from us was a family of 8 or 9 with little kids and a 'Grandma'. We watched as this family was being served. Suddenly the waitress leaned too far over Grandma and proceeded to spill everything on one plate down her back. (My husband and I have both worked in/managed restaurants and know this can just happen, the trick is how the restaurant recovers.) The waitress put down the plate, said sorry to Grandma and then took off to the kitchen, nearing tears. No attempt to help her clean up or get the fries from her hair (literally). As the family is trying to help Grandma another waitress came to the table holding another plate. No one was paying any attention to her so she loudly said "HELLO... I have the burger with cheddar!"  She said this while waving her free hand over the table. It was awful. The family looked at her and no one said a word. She again said "With CHEDDAR!" Finally one of the ladies said, "No one ordered cheddar." The waitress said "whatever" and put the plate down. (At this point we should have walked out the door but it was like watching a train wreck.) A couple minutes later.. remember Grandma still has food on her back and on the floor around her... the second waitress comes back to the table with a plate and says "Some of the stuff will be a few minutes because someone ran into the waitress and made her drop it." OKay seriously..without even knowing it she was accusing Grandma of running into the first waitress.
Then we heard "BLUE HAT" and were seated.

We ordered drinks (non-alcoholic) and an appetizer.
20 minutes later... Our drinks came and we ordered: a burger and a burger w/ bacon. About 30 mins later the burgers showed up but without the bacon. I told the waitress and she said it would be a few minutes (I had no doubt!). My husband asked for ketchup and mustard and I asked for mayo. She came back with the bacon first and put it on the table. We asked again for the condiments. She arrived when everything was cold and put them on the table. Before she could speak I grabbed the mayo. Then she looked at my husband and said "Is this what you needed?" He said "Yes, thank you." AND THEN... this is no joke.... she said "okay' and picked them up and walked away. WALKED AWAY! We were dying laughing! Here we sat with cold burgers, bacon on a plate, no ketchup, no mustard, empty glasses...
We decided we should just get the check and get out! When we next saw her we waved her down, commented that we had not received the appetizer and that we needed the check. She asked if we wanted the app and we said "NO!" She brought the check and said "I didn't charge you for the app." Well good thing since we never got it!

We have shared this story with friends and laughed about it. One of these 'friends' asked us to go back a few months ago. Against or better judgement we went. We waited for 30 mins again for a table... This time we knew our table was ready because she said "Leather Jacket"... It seemed everything was going to be okay... AT FIRST!
Our friend and I ordered the beer sampler and my husband got a soda. The waitress was very happy to get our drinks going and even started flirting with our friend. We thought it was goingto be better. We ordered when she returned with the samplers (no soda however). And that was when it all went wrong again. Simple enough to say our orders were wrong, my husband never got a refill and we left mad.
We will NOT Be back... No matter what 'friend' asks us back.

After trying this place 3 times I give up. This place would be great if they were not always out of half of the beers. Its hard to try something new when its never there.

The bartenders seem to be more interested in serving/ talking to their friends to sell whatever beer they have not run out of. After standing at the bar for 15 minutes I gave up and sat down. And thank god because the one positive about this place was our server.

Our drinks were never empty, she was fast, I never once saw her standing around BSing. Was this enough to make me try a 4th time? No not a chance. But it was enough to get her a large tip and get this place a second star.

Happy Viking definitely delivers on its premise of a family-friendly sports bar, and the waitstaff is usually quite friendly. The beer selection is reason enough to come here, plop down, and stay awhile.

Alas, the service is consistently slow; I would NOT recommend an outing to the Viking on your lunch hour.

The food is pub fare: your standard sampling of wings, pizza and burgers, with decent lineup of appetizers. If your eardrums can withstand the clamorous onslaught of a Saturday night here, give it a shot; the beer will make it worth your while.

Tons of beer gets me really excited. Especially when food is also available. Even moreso when the food is really good.

What also gets me excited is when that place is open for a few drinks after a late night movie. Which is where the Viking fails.

    Stay open later ya turkeys.

    What????

This place has a ton of LCD tvs every where and lots of seat yourself seating. Great for catching the game or large groups.

the pizza is horrible here hence the minus 1 star

the sanwiches and burgers on the other hand are really good. Especially the "Baby Bleu Burger" it has a really good kick

did i mention that there were 50+ beers on tap

The Happy Viking is a new sports bar in downtown Yuba City.  There are arcade games throughout the restaurant along with a pool table and many LCD TVs.  It's a nice addition to the lack of variety in restaurants in this little town.

The food is decent, although the large portions make sandwiches difficult to eat.  I had the mediterranean chicken flat-bread, which was decent.  I'm a big fan of their fries!

The only really big turn-off, however, was the service, which I owe to the novelty of this restaurant.  It took at least 15 minutes for a waitress to take our order and another 25 minutes for the actual order to come out.  Also, our drinks were not refilled until we were all finished with our meals.

It seems like a good place to go with friends since most of the tables would seat at least 8.  There is an insane amount of beers on tap.  It might be worth a try!
