We live nearby and have been meaning to eat here for years. Finally got around to it on Mothers Day.  Buffet only - food was all really poor.  Really not good....  By joint family decision we will not be returning...

Also - 2 adults, 2 kids, no booze it was basically $100.

It started out shaky with the scrappy little blond hostess w  but our waitress Britt made it 5 stars for our brunch.  Food was a 10, the service was a good 11 on a scale of 1-10.  Its hard to find a place you can't bioch about these days and the only complaint was the hostess sitting people in front of us that came after us. We will be back.

Nice atmosphere, good food and bar, decent happy hour. You don't see a ton of kids there, but they do have a kids menu and it certainly is loud enough to cover up a little kid noise! The patio is really nice in the summer. Even facing the parking lot they have lots of flowers to keep it a bit serene.

Service was incredibly slow and many flaws with food.  Rice was extremely undercooked, butternut squash was so underdone that it was inedible.  Majorly overpriced for quality of the food. Would not recommend.

For it's location, in what feels like a "ritzier" suburb, near some really great restaurants, I expected a bit more for the price. Prime rib wasn't prepared as ordered - the bartender offered his recommendation of medium rare, then grilled - giving a glowing recommendation for the carmelization it produced. However, when it arrived, it was clearly medium, and had not been grilled. The bartender noticed, and apologized. Literally, he just said "oh, guess they missed that, sorry," and made no attempt to rectify the situation. Overall, he was actually very attentive, knowledgeable, and charismatic.

My fish was just ok. This place (in my mind) aspires to be a Crave or Twin City Grill-esque restaurant, but falls short. The prices aren't justified for the steak and seafood options. A friend had the peanut butter burger, and absolutely RAVED about it. Perhaps that's the ticket to enjoying Hazellewood!

I used to go to Hazelwood's for decently priced food and drinks. Let me say that my last visit will be my well.....last.

With no warning, the prices zoomed sky high and the food quality zoomed way down.  I mean $15 for the beef tenderloin fondue is quite steep given how little beef was on the plate. The service used to be better and so was the food. If you are going to spend bigger bucks on food there are many places that are worth the spend, not this one.

Such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Weather permitting there is a sweet patio (butts up to the parking lot tho')  but I'll tell you what bugs me....on a night like this the smokers take over the patio rendering it USELESS to non smokers that would like an outdoor dining experience. They have these really cool flame warmers and cozy seating but it REEEEEKS of smoke and is pretty intolerable. They really should ban it from the patio. just sayin'. Food was so delicious and the prices were too! Not on the menu (but they made special for me) was a scrummy scoop of vanilla ice cream with a shot of baileys over top...nice.  thanks Hazellewood. I'll be  back for sure! Ban the smoking from the patio so I can sit out there one night  :)

Have given this restaurant so many second chances, but no more.  Our last outing resulted in overcooked food and sub-par service.  We had tables around us come and go before we even got drink service.  The manager did come out and apologize, but that's all.  No comps, no explanation other than they were busy (most tables were empty).  On my blacklist.

Food was exceptional, service only so-so. They ran out of popovers, which they showcase on their menu...still, the almond-crusted walleye and pork chops were great...the gouda au gratin potatoes awesome. Service was mediocre at best for a  slowe Sunday evening. The reservation and the waitress were made aware of a birthday celebration, yet the waitress had to be reminded after dinner about a birthday dessert. Not a big deal but a all in all not great service.  Worth another visit (breakfast, maybe?) due to the excellent food.

Note: ANY establishment that uses trans-fat/hydrogenated oil loses a point! They refuse to change after multiple requests.
They lost their head chef and have never been quite the same.
Skip right past the teenage hostesses and move to the bar area; the other side is slow and caters to blue-hairs and trust fund babies that wait for them to pick up the check.
Their location for most adds a star because due to Lake Minnetonka's limited choices.
Sunday is one of the BEST happy hours around "the lake". Especially around NFL season with 4 HDTVs.
Open late, sorry. Fly-over country gets another deduction for their early closing time.
If you stick to their recommended items on the menu, you'll do well.

This restaurant is in dangerous proximity to my work, so I go here wayyyyy too often. In my defense, it is delicious. I usually visit them in the morning hours which means oatmeal pancakes with fuji apples on top. Yes. They also have the best breakfast sausage and hash browns, it is just ridiculous. I went there for dinner last night and got the Chicken Meatballs & Spaghetti. Wow. The meatballs were HUGE and there was a perfect amount of pasta and sauce, with just the right amount of kick. (Usually my biggest complaint about restaurant spaghetti is that the sauce is too sweet, but their's is just perfect.) Thursdays are Ladies Night as well, so this meant half price cocktails for us! Yay, just what I need! :) Really though, the star of their menu is something that you don't even pay for. No matter what time you go, you always get a basket of piping hot popovers and hazelnut butter. They are amazing. Really. They are so good it is stupid. The popovers are delicious on their own, but I mostly use them as a vessel to shovel the hazelnut butter into my face. That stuff is like crack, amazing, buttery crack.

So there you have it. Good service, great food, and butter crack. Just go try it.

Great breakfasts are difficult to find and Hazelwood has a great menu item called the Tonka Bay Slam.  Yes, the gouda potatoes are included with a wonderful oatmeal pancake, eggs your style and bacon or sausage.

I wish there were an option for a 2.5, because I feel like Hazellewood is between a 2 and 3.  We met some friends for a dinner here on a Saturday night.  They live in the area and enjoy Hazellewood frequently, so we were excited to check it out.  My husband and I are self-admitted foodies and enjoy trying new places, although I will admit we're a tall order and fairly tough to impress.

I prefer to rate restaurants after having experienced them at least a couple of times, however I am fairly sure we won't be going out of our way to go here again.  Not that it was bad, it just wasn't great.  It was... it was fine.  Nothing stood out, nothing wowed me, nothing was top notch.  I felt like the place was trying to make people feel like they are someplace nicer based largely on location and ambiance, and that's pretty much where it ends.

Hazellewood was about what I expected.  The menu is broad (a little too broad).  It's nicely decorated, the staff is professional and amiable (although they did mess up a drink order and forget to bring out one of our sides).

My main focus is always the food itself.  The first thing that annoyed me was the fish situation.  They allow for people to select the seafood they want (scallops, salmon, shrimp, whatever), the way they want it cooked, and the sauce that's used.  That's a red flag for me.  The chef should know to make those decisions.  I am not going to waste time delving into why, but the list of reasons is a very long one.  It's fine if they want to do that, but then don't purport to be a fine dining establishment - that's all.  Some yahoo is going to walk in and order his scallops broiled in a walnut sauce and think it's brilliant.  So I guess that's great for the restaurant in a way because you want people to like your place, but it's isn't a true reflection of good cuisine.  Anyway.  My husband got the prime rib, which he liked just fine.  It came with gouda hash browns which were okay.  Believe it or not, it's nice to be able to taste the potato sometimes and not just the gouda.  Maybe his batch had a little too much gouda.  Or way too much gouda.  Either way, one could hardly taste the actual veg.  Despite my annoyance about the seafood situation I did order the scallops.  Mine were overcooked.  The veg (carrots) that came with the scallops were slathered and dripping with far too much butter (yes there is such a thing - I'm even part French and there IS such a thing).  I'd be shocked if the popovers were not made from some box.  I'd also be shocked if the fries weren't a frozen variety.  The chocolate cake dessert was standard.  It's chocolate layer cake.  It's hard to mess that up.  That was acceptable - there wasn't anything uber sensational about it.

Unfortunately, the ambiance was destroyed by a large, noisy, overly spray tanned collection of husbands and wives who were seated at the table next to us - the kind of people who like to shout at whomever is sitting right next to them instead of talking like a normal person who is aware that they are in a public place.  It was just obnoxious and didn't help.

So overall, it was just okay.  The food is not outstanding.  If you are a foodie, or a good cook, don't bother.  I really wanted to like this place because our good friends love it and it's their favorite place near their home.  I'd go back if they want to meet us there again sometime, but now that I know what to expect, the context of the restaurant and the limitations of the kitchen, I would probably just stick to something like a burger or a salad.

This is one of my favorite restaurants!  I am lucky enough to work in the area and try to get in there at least once a month. I have never had a bad meal. You can't go wrong with the fish tacos!  There brunch is amazing..especially the smoked gouda hash browns :)  Who can say no to a $2 Mimosa?

Hazelwood is probably one of the best restaurants in the Western suburbs. Located in a strip mall in Excelsior/Tonka Bay area this food consistently surprises me. Started out with a grapefruit martini that was more martini and less grapefruit. We then moved on to the beet salad which was so good and very filling. I suggest you share with someone else. Then I ordered the scallops which my waitress suggested I order in the pot. Excellent suggestion- they were amazing and differently prepared then I am used to. We skipped dessert but did also order the popovers which are everyone's favorite. My other diners loved their meals pasta and turkey dinner. But one of our guests didn't like the prime rib at all. We are able to sit outside which was amazing in March but there was no light on our tables so it was hard to see what the dishes looked like. The wait staff are very friendly but not very sharp. I asked for water and they brought me a glass but most servers would ask the rest of the table if they wanted some as well. He did not. Oh well!

Hazellewood Grill and Tap Room (Yelp, get the spelling right) is one of our favorite local haunts in the Lake Minnetonka area. Like many reviewers have said, the location and outside of the restaurant are not very impressive. However, the interior is very nice and wait staff, bartenders and hostesses are friendly and helpful. Above all, the food is great. If you want Minnesota comfort food this is your place. Steaks, hamburgers, chicken, meatloaf, walleye, you name it and they have it. For me personally it is the side items that are the most impressive. They have the most wonderful grilled asparagus I have ever tasted along with these incredible Smoked Gouda Gratin Potatoes that you could eat by the scoop. Top it off with a nice bar that has great happy hour and nice TVs to watch sporting events. Even if not from the area, give it a try.

Love this place.  Huevos rancheros, banana cream waffle, gouda hashbrowns just some of my favorites.  Great blood mary's also.

I went to Hazellewood Grill and Tap for dinner the other night because of the good reviews on Yelp. I have to say, I was really disappointed. It was pricey for the quality of the food, as I have a sneaking suspicion that their food is mostly frozen.

My boyfriend had the walleye sandwich, and I had a burger. Both were mediocre, and, like I said, probably frozen. And speaking of frozen, it was really cold in the restaurant! That is a little nitpicky, but I thought I'd mention it, since it did affect the ambiance.

Excellent food and even better service!  Our server had great recommendations and even was honest enough to tell us the couple dishes to skip (which I appreciate).  Don't let the exterior fool you, it is cozy inside.  I wish I lived closer so I could come more often, gem of a place.

Don't let the strip mall setting fool you - this is a great restaurant in a weird location. The food is American comfort food done very well (don't skip the potatoes). Portions are generous and the service is solid. Most of the time, you won't wait a minute for a table. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the far west metro.

Great professional service.  Food was excellent. The kids meals were excellent (the "best mac and cheese we've ever had" said the kids). Great beer options. Very nice interior design and ambiance.

We would come back often as a family if it wasn't so spendy. Maybe it's more of a date night place for us as a couple.

We just found this place for breakfast and will for sure be back soon! Super friendly and welcoming staff, interesting menu, delicious food, reasonable prices, and a great ambiance. My husband had the oatmeal pancakes with blueberries and apples. Hands down the best pancakes we've ever tasted! Thin and a bit crunchy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. So wonderful! I had the Florentine Benedict that came with smoked gouda hash browns. Heavenly! Can't wait to get back and eat more!

The day turned brighter when we sat at the bar and began our experience at Hazellewood on the last day of 2010.

Lori, our server at the bar, was most congenial and attentive. The day turned even more to the better when we ordered the shrimp and corn chowder. They make every soup of the day on premises, and fresh the day it is served! The burger is big enough for two to split, we had ours with blue cheese, with fries of course!

The secret here is that these managing partners [Lori and her husband David] were among the founders of Redstone at the birth of that enterprise.

For those of you who remember the early days of Redstone when they  served fresh home-made pickles, they are still available HERE. Served with the burger, they were our tip off to the Redstone roots, which was confirmed in conversation with the managers.

We have a new base in Excelsior. You deserve to give Hazellewood an open-minded try!!!

I have driven past Hazelwood countless times but never went in.  I was put-off by the fact that is in a cheesy strip mall.  We finally stopped fighting our suburban tendencies last week and stopped in for dinner.  The interior is nothing special.  It looks like a restaurant in a suburban strip mall trying to be fancy (my mom loves it there "oooooh, it has a fireplace!).  So at this point you are probably wondering: Hmm.  It seems to already have 2 strikes against it (the exterior/location and the interior), how is it that it is getting a Yay! I'm a fan!?  Well my friends, those 4 stars are for the food and the service.  Everything we have eaten at Hazelwood has been great.  They aren't breaking any new ground with their menu, but they do comfort food really well.  They also have an attentive wait- and bar-staff.  My husband really likes their burgers and their grown-up mac and cheese.  I love the steak salad.  Also - they have a pretty solid beer/cocktail/wine selection.

Had the angel hair pasta with chicken for lunch. Nice presentation and good taste. I will be back sometime when I can have a Surly on tap!

Swung in here after golf one Tuesday evening as it was a down pour and the "Tap" in the name peaked my interest.  Pretty disappointing as they had 7 taps of the usual commercial swill and only one tap worth pulling (Surly, Furious).

Food was good but somewhat spendy.  Just had a Burger.  Service was great and bartender was friendly not to mention easy on the eyes.

I would definitely come back regularly if the TAP selection was upgraded, but won't cry as I drive by next time in my Golf Shoes!

Good place for breakfast. Attentive staff and good coffee. I've eaten breakfast here twice. One time I made the mistake of ordering their special hash browns that have a sour cream sauce in the middle. Everyone else I was with enjoyed the hash browns but they really upset my stomach. Otherwise great food.

There are not many restaurants in the Lake Minnetonka area, that are of this caliber AND aren't on the lake, and therefore jam packed in the summer months. This eatery isn't far from the lake and offers great food at reasonable prices. They have great burgers and a wide selection of appetizers.

We really like this place. It's tucked in a psudo-strip mall on County Road 19 as it runs between a couple of bays on Lake Minnetonka between Excelsior and Navarre. The interior is split into two sections with a bar on the left when you enter and the dining room on the right. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. The menu changes regularly and the food is always great. The menu skews toward comfort food which is perfect year round, but especially in the winter. Be sure to ask for one of the cozy booths. Happy hour is fully celebrated and both lunch and dinner specials have been added. Favorites include the walleye, grilled meatloaf and the turkey dinner.

One of the best meal options around western Lake Minnetonka and without the pretense of Fletcher's or Maynard's. Because they're not on the lake they MUST deliver good food and deliver they do.

Favorites include the prime rib, walleye sandwich and Carnegie sandwhich (no longer on the menu but if you ask nicely they may wrestle one up for you).

The service is solid and they have some strong bartenders.

They have the best Prime Rib Sandwich.  Everytime go it is the same great food and the staff is fantastic.

Try the Hazelletini- vodka, Frangelico and tuaca. Yummy!
