Gastropub is a handy bit of terminology.  Pub or bar food can be a bit ordinary.  Big on comfort but light on imagination.  The HPH is a nice addition to a lean category.  The menu has some tasty twists on standard fare.  We had the Beet Burger which featured a Niman Ranch beef patty (a little thinner than I like) but with sliced beets, blue cheese and other fixings.  There was an interesting looking Lamb and Bacon Salad that held promise, but we had the Waldorf type salad that was big enough for two. The fish and chips were nicely battered and the chips are great.  The beer selection is more than ample and there is a very reasonable wine selection.  The prices are great and the joint was jumping with nice energy and our server was just terrific, very helpful.  The chef even came out and said he'll be focusing on seasonal ingredients from local sources.  We'll be back for sure.

Had a great experience! The food was amazing, fantastic selection of beer and fun, chill environment. Our server was attentive and gave us great recommendations for new beers to try. Will definitely be back.

We absolutely love Heritage Public House.  Wonderful brew selection and they do have a cider on tap for my gluten free partner.  The food is masterful, with layers of flavor, obviously created by a thoughtful chef.

    The wait staff are wonderful.

My comment to those who complain about waiting for their food orders is that this food is crafted, not mass produced.  You are in the wrong dining place if you want that.

Excellent selection of draft beers! Great atmosphere and friendly service--I just had their fries but these were delicious, fresh cut, crisp and hot.

As I write this, I am sitting at my table waiting (going on 20 minutes) for my sandwich and fries, despite the fact that there are only three other tables.  Our waitress took three trips to the table to get iced tea (one for tea, one for lemon, one for sugar).  So far, not so good.

Oh, and what appear to be the owners of this place are sitting one table away getting a presentation from a POS system guy, and they clearly haven't heard our less-than-subtle conversation about the delays and spotty service.  We'll see how the food is, but I'm not getting my hopes up...

After waiting 25 minutes after ordering, food was mediocre.  That's all I have to say about that.

The best part of this meal:  It was half off because of a Living Social deal.

Okay so Sat nite past.. double date.. first time.. Um, er Caucasian Dreaded waiting for Burning Man waiter.. EPIC Server FAIL.. listen real quick.. when it is YOUR job to serve humans, and you bring out the second order after the Apps are NOT on the table exactly ONE hour after the Chicken Wings and paltry order of Asparagus spears were ordered? You in fact are an Idiot.. when I look at you and say: "Are the Apps ready?" after you bring out the "main course" and you look confused and say: "Oh yeah let me check on those.. " means you did not even get the order in .. when you ask if everything is okay and offer no apology, "hook up" (like a free pitcher) or no charge for ONE of the apps.. than YOU need to go back to the grow house, weed farm, granola factory and stay at your day job.. Now it was NOT my "gig" sotpspeak (meaning my choice, my lead on the evening) so I would have demanded something or made something reasonable happen in me and my GF's  favor.. But it was not. So I was not asked by the second party to pay a dime.. In short the Rest Biz is tuff and newer places need a time to "grow" I have been a party to opening restaurants by personal friends from SF and the immediate Bay to Reno.. but as a NEW Sonoma County resident and somewhat of a food and service "snob"? But also a reasonable business person and American? I get all the "kinks" need to be worked out.. But fer chrissake tune it up a wee bit.. and get it together..otherwise you shall be regulated to the average loss/tax write-off that most "eating Establishments" turn out to be after 2-4 years
.. I wish the Owners/management/investors (if any) luck but Pay Attention..as I wont go back for a year at least..

First, the good stuff; I think the decor is great, liked the beer garden concept, liked the pool table area, and really liked their beer choices. Waitstaff was attentive, prompt and knowledgeable (went in on Sunday afternoon-not too busy in there).
To be fair, we only ordered 2 entrees (however, we noticed the food and comments from the neighboring tables.)
I liked the chicken wings I'd give them 3 stars...could've used a bit more "fire" but cooked through and accompanied by what tasted like a delicious house made blue cheese dressing. I know this is weird, but I happen to really like the celery garnish that accompanies buffalo wings, in this case my wings came with a measly 3 limp jullianed stalks....boooo!
Now for the Heritage Burger; sadly only 1 star for this. I cannot even tell you how many times I had to spit out cartaledge from the patty...uggg! The patty itself was not seasoned and very bland. The bun was fresh and very tasty. The Heritage Burger needed more veggie sides; lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc... The fries were good, could've been crispier tho.
We will go back to try other intriguing menu items and for the beer.
Other yelpers mentioned the pathetic looking BLT....and well, we saw one and yes, it looked like something a 6 year old made. Not ordering that for sure!
If they step up their food A LOT....they will be able to keep up with other flourishing gastro pubs in the very close proximity.

Finally convinced my son to go here to give it a try. He did but very reluctantly because the menu was a bit small. But off we went. Had to eat crow, Im sure that would have been better. Ordered the basil I.P.A. because hey its usually delicious. Well not this one. After a sip it tasted flat and stale. Told my son to taste it ,thought maybe my taste buds may have been on a vacation. Not the case , he agreed right away that it was terrible. He asked what beer did I order and I forgot, so I turned to look at the beer menu hanging on the wall and they erased it ten minutes after I ordered it. Asked the waiter where did the beer that I ordered from the menu go, which was erased from the chalk board, he went to go find out. He came back to tell that was the last of that beer. Hmmmm... that explained the stale flat taste. I swear our waiter was baked out of his head, screwed up on  the doneness of the  burger, forgot the ranch dressing twice ,never filled water glasses,,zoned out three times on not bringing utensils, and the slowest server I 've encountered in ages.
Food was greasy and blain. The decor was pretty cool but sorry to say not cool enough to give this place a second try. Should have went to goji....YUM!!!!!

Ok- I tried this place out for the first time last week with a friend.  I have the feeling they opened too early because they have a serious Identity problem!

They say they are a "California Craft Beer Gastropub" with local beers and foods.  Their menu looked great - local cheese, meats, etc.  I think they are trying to be a Hopmonk Tavern which would be great for Santa Rosa but these guys are WAY off!

We ordered a BLT and a salad.  Both were described as gourmet and sounded amazing.  When are got our food the BLT was the saddest sandwich I had ever seen!  Barely toasted (think stale looking a feeling) WHITE bread, iceberg lettuce and an anemic tomato that looked like it came from Safeway (supposed to he heirloom) and two small pieces of bacon.  The salad was downing in dressing with barely anything in it.

    Now for the service-

The service was slow to say the least (20 minutes for a cheese plate and we had to ask for it)  When we said we were unhappy with the food, she just kinda blank stared.  No apology, no listening, nothing.  Finally she did offer to take it back (still no apology), but we were over it  and her by then so we just said to maybe let the kitchen know for the future.  She rolled her eyes and walked away!  Then proceeded to gather another waitress and two guys from the kitchen around the register to talk sh*t about us!  Right in front of us!

Too bad...this place had a lot of promise.   I am sure the beer is good.

Heritage is a great addition to santa rosa's pub scene! We've been twice, both times for a late lunch/early dinner.

The beer is great, and they're always changing their taps. The servers are knowledgeable about the beer list if you need a recommendation.

We've ordered 5 things: the bahn mi; fish and chips, fried chicken sandwich, a sausage special with kraut and pickled veggies.

All were very good. The only complaint was with the fish and chips; the fish was absolutely perfect, on par with the best we've ever had. The qualm was with the number of pieces of fish (2 instead of the regular 3) and the chips were shoestring style fries that were unevenly cooked. We like our fish and chips with steak fries. It wouldn't have been an issue, except that the fish and chips were $13, while the bahn mi was $8, so it seems a little pricey for the portion. But, the fish really was amazing.

I love what they've done with the space; it has a very cozy and dark feel while being spacious at the same time, with different areas depending on what you're in the mood for (pool, beer garden, sports, bar, etc.)

i also have a minor complaint about the beer list; they only have it up on a chalk board by the bar. when i asked about this they said they didn't want to print it on paper because the taps change so often, and they don't want to waste paper. i totally understand that, but i have a hard time reading menus/beer lists that are large format and are placed high up in the room. that's a minor issue though; i just ask my boyfriend to read it for me (something about the format, i just can't visually process it).

Will definitely be back again and again; the beer selection is perfect -lots of ipa's but plenty for everyone. All california beers, too. And I hear they do live music on saturdays.

Wow. Great beer selection but the food was a great surprize. Inventive comes to mind. Attentive staff. We were there mid week and the place was 3/4s full. Cool artwork and the beer garden is a great outdoor option. Nice stage though it was quiet the night we were there. Gotta go back and try some other dishes.

We tried this place twice in one day - first for lunch and later for drinks and live music.

    1. Lunch outside in the little beer garden was great. Shady umbrellas, service was quick and attentive. We had a toddler and two infants in our party, and they were accepted readily and treated well. I would love a better menu option for those who can't eat gluten, but I won't take away any stars for that - hey, it's a pub, not a allergen friendly restaurant.

2.We came back later, sans children, to see Lee Koch perform. He was AWESOME. But what most impressed me was the customer service. We had what we thought was an error on our lunch bill, so brought it back with us. The bartender took it seriously immediately, involved the manager, and they handled it with such grace and professionalism. Turns out the error was my husband's, not theirs, but they still insisted on crediting us. It was classy and it was appreciated big time. This is a place that values their clientele.

The beer & wine list is fun and interesting, and I'm told it changes. We'll be back for sure!

I had a Mendo Mello that was as good as it gets.  The renovation of Video Droid took a while but what a change.  The man that poured my beer was friendly and made good choices for me.  It was quiet for an afternoon but they are new.

I have nothing good to say about Heritage Public House! Awful service and the only person greeting people is a bouncer... We walked in ready to drop some dough on some deep fat fried goodness and a few cold ones but the employees just ignored us!

This place is pretty damn sweet. I just moved to Santa Rosa not too long ago from San Francisco and this place makes me feel like I'm back in SF. The vibe is rustic and there is old barn wood everywhere.

They had a pretty good amount of beers on tap and some good bottles too. I had PranQster belgian from North Coast and my girlfriend had the Robusto Porter from Drake's. They only do California beers which i think is pretty cool.

I ordered the cheeseburger and it was so freakin' good! They had some special sauce and 2 different cheeses. My Girl had the Banh Mi which I was surprised to see on the menu of a Craft Beer bar and she said it was perfect.

After we ate we took our beers to the pool table and played a few games. They had few TV's playing different sports but I don't really like sports so it was good to see that Sports wasn't a main focus of this place. They had some cool music playing in the background and on of the servers said they had live music on Saturdays.

Service was cool, kind of mellow but willing to help with anything. They might need a few more servers though.

They have a pretty good sized beer garden drinking area with some outdoor game that seems like will be super fun on those warm summer days.

All in all this place is pretty damn sweet.  It's got a really cool vibe going on and some friendly people. Its good to know there are some beer places left that are not over ran with beer snobs or families with little kids. They are walking distance from my house so I am sure I will be back again and again.

    Cheers!

Great new place in the former Video Droid just north of the JC. It would be awesome if this starts a trend for this part of Santa Rosa. We went on a Friday night during their soft open. Great decor, feels nice and cozy inside. Friendly and helpful service from some beefy bros behind the bar. The food needs a little work. Fries served in a pile on a metal tray like they just came out of my toaster oven. The Bahn Mi had good flavor but could use a little more meat and warming/light toasting of the bread. The cheeseburger was good but unremarkable. They just need to put a little more effort into the presentation and fix a few things and it will be stellar. They'll get it right soon, I'm sure.

Delighted to see a new tap house in town and went for lunch.  Nice bartender, pretty beer knowledgeable and friendly.  Nice selection of CA only draft beers and a nice looking menu with a few more options than typical pub food.  We had the burger with the beet on it and fries and were happy.  Tuna melt needs to come OFF the menu. Let the bartender know we didn't care for it and she went back and told the "chef". He came out walked past us with a smirk and then came back and  let us know he was going for a no mayo tuna melt.  Well, it came off as dry, boring and a bad representation of any tuna melt we've ever had.  We each had a bite..and decided to split the burger and fries...pushed the tuna aside.  The bartender apologized and when she gave us our bill she took 10% off of the meal we didn't even eat...who does that?  So we paid $7 instead of $9 for a plate full of food we gave back.  The chef had offered to make us something else but we were completely done eating by the time he came out and done with our beer so timing wasn't good.
The place has possibility....there wasn't anyone in there so it came off as a lethargic pub.  Probably won't rush back but would go back again.

I went to Heritage for lunch this afternoon with my sister and grandma. The place had two tables dining and a group playing pool. The place is spacious with a cool dark loungy feel - excited about seeing what bands they'll be bringing to their stage setup.

I ordered the lettuce cups (which were good, just the right amount of citrus and Thai spice and a pretty good portion for $7.50). My sister ordered the Chicken Salad although she didn't expect mayonnaise covered chicken on greens (too expensive at $8.95 for the small portion of chicken she got - were those organic greens?). Grandma ordered the Farmer's Salad which was just plain greens with celery, a few radish slivers and red onions. The dressing had a faint sweetness, like a raspberry vinaigrette, but was basically not very flavorful. $7.50 for plain greens is too much.

The real problem was that it took 25 minutes to get our food! (and I am not exaggerating) There were only two tables in the restaurant, and one wasn't eating! When I finally got up to look for the waitress (she did not even check in with us during this half hour), she was less than sympathetic when I said we were on our lunch hour. When she brought out the food she didn't apologize for the wait, she just said there was "only one guy back there".

The food was three stars, the service was more like two. Although she was friendly she was not very enthusiastic - she didn't try to sell us any beers or tell us about the menu or even say that they were excited about just opening. The whole experience was pretty bland. I'd go back to try the extensive beer selection but don't go if you are on your lunch hour!

This place rules! I came here today with four of my best girlfriends and we had an absolutely fantastic time.  I had Carnival by The Lost Abbey, which I always love, especially on a warm day like today.  They had a great beer list.  The food menu looked good too -- and they even offer a vegetarian version of their beet burger, though the bun is egg-washed so there's not much in the way of vegan food.  But with how incredibly helpful and nice the waitstaff was, I imagine they could work something out!
We sat outside on the patio, which was lovely.  Altogether a great experience and I'm very much looking forward to going back!
Edit: I've now been there several times and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time!
I LOVE that they play games on their projector...so awesome.  Enjoyed watching the Warriors and Sharks simultaneously the other night!

The one thing I REALLY wish they would reconsider is their "absolutely no half-pours...ever" policy.  I really enjoy beer, but I just can't drink a whole one.  I'm a tiny person and a mega-lightweight.  I'd be happy to pay more than half the price of the full size...I'm not sure why they can't offer this, but they've made it clear to me that it's not even up for discussion.

But still, I love this place and am so, so happy it's here!

Great place! Went there during their soft opening week.

I'd say it's a classier version of a bar that one would typically go to (probably because its brand spanking new).  I didn't have any beer...but that's their specialty so there was a huge variety. Menu wasn't anything crazy, typical bar food. I would have tried their burger but Shaun T's Insanity Workout would never approve of that. Just had a glass of wine and some fries.

Service was great.  Our server was always around asking us what we needed.

There's a chalkboard in the restroom! I've see a lot of different things in bar restrooms but this was a first. I didn't write anything but I saw some people had already drawn dirty pictures.

    Check it out.
