Very disappointed. We went during lunch and it wasn't too crowded. Strike one was when we ordered coke the waitress asked if Pepsi was ok. Strike two was they would let us get two different wing sauces with a ten wing order. We had to order two five wing orders which also cost more. The food was ok. Not what I would expect from a "pub".  Strike three was they brought you a credit card machine to slide your own card with. The operating system wasn't user friendly, and I'm pretty up-to-date with technology. Then after we figured it out the machine ran out of ink. So we had no idea if my card went through it not. The waitress said we could fill out a customer satisfaction form. She left to get one and never returned. We left paying right at $40 for lunch, still hungry and very disappointed.

Ladies and germs, the J/J Burger Tour came back on May 16 on the recommendation of Joanna, who works here, to try the Savannah Burger. It was really good. Great angus beef, crispy onions and jalapeno's, maximum cheddar, and bbq sauce on a wheat bun. What a fine burger. It's my third burger here and Herschel's continues to impress.
Ok kids, now for the epiphany; the Fair Melissa ordered Herschel's Mama's Chicken. OH. MY. GOD. I will say that this is one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. 3 huge slices of banana cream French toast, three hand breaded chicken tenders. Sitting in a big puddle of Crown Royal maple syrup. It was so good that we could not stop eating it. Just perfect. If you're here, you must try this dish.
    Enjoy the new pics.

Went to Herschel's last night for dinner, food was outstanding, and my server, Chelsea was terrific. Definitely try the Pitt burger and the Pork Nachos when you go.

Who is Herschel Walker? (Oh man, I'm totally gonna get slammed for that)
I'm not from around here, I didn't grow up with Georgia Football (Hook 'em) but I do look great in red and black. Anyway, I think the decor/atmosphere of this place was neat, but it kind of reminded me more of a hotel lobby than an upscale restaurant, which is what I was expecting.
My wheat allergy (glutardedness) definitely limited my menu options, as this place is big on sandwiches and burgers, but the wings were pretty great, even though I think that having 34 flavors (enchilada flavor? seriously?) is overkill.
Our appetizer was bbq shrimp (yum) and the cheese fries-the cheese fries were quite tasty albeit almost drowned in a unusually spicy cheese SAUCE...Even though it wasn't mentioned on the menu that they were spicy. So be warned Georgians, this sauce was mouth searing even for me.
    I had a Doritos salad (yep-judge me).
It was terrible. I don't know why anyone eats iceberg lettuce and that non-nutritional BS should have stopped me there, but I was determined to feel like a fat ass.
Worst part? After eating my boring salad, I was still hungry and not at all feeling guilty about eating my Doritos salad like I should have. If I'm gonna order that, I want to savor all the calories and feel bad after I eat it.
Also, the service was not excellent, and I think the mini iPad they carry around to jot down orders was more of a hassle for them that a novel idea.

Since it's Spring Break, I thought we'd check out Herschel's new place in Athens. We had a party of 4 (myself, my husband, and another couple). Our hope that slower traffic in town would make this a reasonable wait was quickly dashed. It would seem that the newness of the joint has yet to wear off, and folks are still flocking in to try it out.

There's a lot of room for improvement. When we first arrived, all of us noticed three things quickly:
    1. What a terrible use of space! While I can understand not wanting to have permanent seating in place to allow for moving tables around, the placement of high tables between the booths and the bar wastes valuable real estate. There's also no place for waiting parties to sit, and any where you stand makes you feel like you're in the way of patrons and waitstaff. A completely useless fern occupies an area right by the door that would be better served with a booth or bench to seat up to 6 as they wait for a table.
    2. There is obviously no trained manager on staff. Too many hostesses were clustered near the entrance and only one seemed to actually be helping new patrons. Far too many bartenders were crowded behind the bar than what was necessary for the time of day. Patrons sitting outside were coming inside to ask about getting drink refills. And for all of the staff who were standing around, not doing much, they did not have any silverware rolled/prepped (we actually didn't get any silverware until after our food arrived, and even then they simply handed us napkins, forks, and only two knives). Side note: I called F34 not long after they first opened to ask about take-out orders, and was told that they don't do this. After telling this to a friend who works there, she said this wasn't true. So, clearly if they have any managers, the internal communication and organization is poor.
    3. The overall feel is that of trying to be an upscale sportsbar. It's an interesting concept that would probably be better placed in Atlanta than Athens. Will it last in a college town? Only time will tell.

They were admittedly quite busy, but the staff are used ineffectively. As mentioned previously, there were staff standing around not doing much. But there were also staff who were running around nonstop, trying to keep up.

The menu was overwhelming with delicious-sounding options. It took us awhile, but we finally settled on the Blackened Shrimp Pasta, the BLT Sweet Sausage Burger, Chicken Breast wrap, and Blackened Turkey Burger. For drinks, three of us had beer from the bar (nice list of beers on tap, and the prices aren't terrible) and one had sweet tea. While the water glasses were of a decent size, they were at least twice as large as the glass used for the sweet tea, which meant constantly asking for refills.

The food itself was taking quite a bit of time, and the waitress brought out complimentary pub chips to apologize. We managed to work through two baskets of chips before our food was finally ready. The chips themselves weren't bad at all, and I'll likely order them in the future.

While the food tasted good, it wasn't quite "as advertised." There was nothing blackened at all about the shrimp pasta, and the "white wine garlic cream" was neither garlicy nor creamy. The blackened turkey burger was also not blackened nor spicy/tangy in the slightest. It was just your average, garden variety turkey burger. The other dishes were met with similar observations (not bad, but not quite what they expected).

Not wanting to pass up the extras on the table menu, my husband and I opted to get a latte and dessert to go. They were out of the cheesecake mix for the cheesecake latte. So, my husband asked for the hazelnut latte instead. I took a sip, and while I usually love anything hazelnut, about the only thing I can say is that this resembled one of those gas station lattes in both flavor and temperature. For dessert, I ordered the tart (unfortunately, my first choice for dessert was one of the two that they cannot prepare for take out -- they offer 5 different desserts). I will say that the tart was very delicious.

In all, we were there for two hours between waiting for a table, waiting for our food, and eating. That's a bit much for just a dinner out, but perhaps the timing will improve if they pay attention to ways to make the place better.

Take away message: Meh, it's alright, and we'll probably be back.

Went here tonight on the advice of a student. DO NOT GO HERE. We ordered the Dawg, grilled cheese burger, and American burger. The food was just average. The fries were cold and the pub chips were stale. Our server was nice but slow. Half of my burger was medium and the other half was well done. How does that happen? There must be better places in the area. If I could give zero stars I would.

We went to this new restaurant with high hopes and left very disappointed! The food is overpriced and just plain gross. Our party ordered the cheese fries appetizer, the wedge salad, the "famous" grilled cheese, the chicken fingers, and the wings. Where to start.... the salad was just plain gross, it was tiny for an "entree" sized salad and was swimming in the red peppers so that was all i could taste! The wings were tiny and my husband said they were the worst wings he had ever had ( they had some clumpy sauce on them that just looked unappetizing)! My dad chose the burger after the waitress commented that it was amazing... he ordered it with the burger in it and said the meat taste very off and tasted like there was a lot of fillers in it!  the chicken fingers were just blah, over cooked, and you could tell they had been sitting out! the only decent thing was the cheese fries and even they had cold limp undercooked french fries under the topping! needless to say we will not be returning and I highly doubt this place will last long with there quality of food!
