I came here on 7/8 to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We went out to the patio where a cocktail server was clearly working and sat ourselves at a table. The server was talking to a larger table of 5 so we gave her the benefit of the doubt and let her walk in and out of the building 3 separate times, without even casting a glance at us.
She then proceeded to sit down with the larger table, chatted with them for a while, and continued to ignore us.
Eventually we became frustrated as we had been sitting without beers for nearly 15 minutes and not even the slightest acknowledgement towards us from the waitress. She never said she was off the clock or gave us any kind of sign that we were improperly seated, etc. We gave up and went inside where the bartender was nice and the beer was good, but this cocktail waitress continued to come inside clearly still on the clock and working, and it only became more obvious that she was simply not interested in serving us.
This waitress eventually finished her shift after trying to "stay busy for the cameras" and mentioned "only having two tables", even though she clearly chose not to serve us. This being my first time at Hessen I personally had much higher hopes for the staff considering what great reviews you hear around town about the establishment as a whole. Luckily the bartender made me mostly forget my grumpiness towards the bar but I will definitely avoid this server any time I return in the future.
My only other complaint was the staff kept whispering and ranting about other staff members in front of us while we were seated at the bar, very gossipy and dramatic. Nothing I want to hear when I'm trying to enjoy a beer.
I came here to celebrate a deceased cousin's birthday. I hadn't been here in years until 5/22. All I ordered was a great big ol' beer. It had to be at least 24oz? I don't even know what it was that I drank, I just told the waitress I'll have "what she's having," referencing another girl's drink who was at my table. I didnt feel like looking through the menu, her beer looked good enough to quench my "thirst." My beer was $8.75 at that time, $2 off until 6pm that day.
Overall the service was great, and felt prompt throughout the night.
