Nice bar/restaurant with good prices and a variety of food.
The Good: Family friendly atmosphere. Nice and attentive staff. Quality food without pomp and circumstance.
The Bad: Weird almost Christmas-like decorations in July. Didn't really have a definitive identity. Is it a bar? Family restaurant? Both?
Still, worth a stop of you need a quick, tasty meal without a ton of fanfare.

Review Source:Walking into Hi-Point Pub was a weird experience for me. I'm not used to a room full of white people staring at me like I'm some space creature. I hate being the only group of non-white people at any place because usually, those places make minorities feel uncomfortable as fuck. Despite the weird and rude looks their patrons were giving my group, I still had a great experience here and it's all because of their wings.
Come in and ask for the wing menu, because that's all you really need to know about Hi-Point. Order as many as you fit in your gullet and ask for your sauce on the side. The wings themselves are good enough to stand alone but the Honey BBQ on the side is a nice touch. The wings are huge (as are their usual patrons...) and they come extra deep fried and hot. The wings do take a little while but that's only because they fry them fresh every time. I forgot the prices but I think 12 wings ran us something like $10.
Our waitress, bless her soul, was the sweetest thing ever and made us feel right at home. She was a blonde woman in about her 30s or so with short hair. She was a doll! She was attentive and patient with us while we mulled over the menus.
Overall, the price is right, the wings are great and the service is on point!
Food was ok. Service was abysmal.
Clams Las vegas was reported by Lips as very good.
My Cran Bisque was good, although this side of too spicy. I think the Bisque would be much better without any spice to it.
Salad was mundane, don't bother variety.
Entrees:
The Special had by Lips was the Triple Lobster Tails. One Broiled, One Fried, One with Crab Meat. Reported that all were on the dry side. The Baked Potato and Cole Slaw served with the entree was good and lousy related to the slaw. Way too Vinegary.
I had the Cheese Steak which was a pretty good rendition.
Now, the waitress. What a mess. Was not attentive, seemed confused and when she brought the Check, oh the total was umm a bit off, by like 200 dollars!
Yep the Check the waitress brought was 200 dollars too much. She blamed the computer, yet Ms. Waitress, maybe you should have looked at it before giving it to the customer?
We still tipped 20%. (We over- tip and do this way too often for awful service)
I think this place is great for a Bar Food Snack, maybe not a good choice for any higher expectation.
despite the name seems more like a restaurant than a bar to me.. crab bisque is pretty good, well seasoned. very creamy. maybe it has a lot of butter i dunno. $6.50 for a very large bowl of crab bisque which i couldn't finish. $3 yeungling. sat at the bar on a saturday evening around 9, found the other customers to be quite friendly and chatty.. Â seems like an easy place to make friendly conversation with people. casual environment. crowd at that time seemed mostly 30+ age range going up across a broad distribution..
Review Source:It's my 100th review!!!!
I am always going to be just a tad biased toward Hi-Point, since this is where boyfriend and I first met! Classy, right? I get to tell my kids I met their father at a dive bar in Absecon on Thirsty Thursday after one too many dirty martinis and we lived happily ever after. Anyway.
I avoided this place like the plague for so long because of the way it looks from the outside...don't do that! Hi-Point is actually a really cool place to drink and eat. It's definitely divey, but in a "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" kind of way. Not a huge or great selection of beers, but their selection will get the job done, if you catch my drift. Drinks are inexpensive and made pretty strongly.
The bar area smacks you in the face as soon as you walk inside, and there is table seating behind that. The bar is long, but not wide enough, and can get really cramped. The staff are friendly and attentive, especially the bartenders. Eddie is the best bartender here. If you come in and Eddie is behind the bar, his flaming pumpkin shots are off the wall. So delicious and goes down so smoothly. The bartenders earn Hi-Point its 4th star.
There is one bartender to beware of here, however. Apparently once she thinks you're sufficiently pickled, she starts taking your money off the bar, essentially tipping herself. Baaaaad bad bad.
As far as the food goes, I haven't had too much of it. They do have a very extensive menu: basic bar food, seafood (some of it not even fried!), sandwiches, pizza, and entrees. WINGS are the thing to get at Hi-Point!! They are breaded and fried. Crunchy crispy deliciousness on the outside, fresh hot and juicy on the inside! Do yourself a favor and get them plain with the sauce on the side. Two reasons why: #1, the wings are so good by themselves, you might not even want the sauce. #2, although they have a whole bunch of different sauces, they all seem to taste like ketchup. Seriously. Buffalo sauce should never ever taste like ketchup. Ew. GET THE WINGS!!!
Also had the garlic steamers here. Tons of garlic, which my inner Italian grandmother appreciated. The clams were big and fresh, but the larger ones were chewy. So chewy I had to eventually spit them out. My jaw got a nice workout though.
Hi-Point fries are perfect drunk/hangover food. Fresh crispy fries topped with mozzarella and bacon. I believe all french fries should be topped with mozzarella. Actually, I think all food in general should be topped with mozzarella. Fries especially. And the bacon isn't burnt to hell either so it's still juicy and flavorful.
There is a TouchTunes jukebox. It's got a pretty decent selection. Not the best I've seen, but they did have my all-time favorite song "Oh Babe, What Would You Say" by Hurricane Smith, so they get a point for that!
Monday nights are wing nights at Hi-Point. 10 wings for $5! The wings are big, so this is a great deal.
Tuesday is karaoke night. Take that as you wish. The guy who MCs is really cool though.
Wednesday is Singles Night!! Oh man, the bar did a huge turnover around 8:00 on Wednesday. The median age skyrocketed to, like, 65. It was hilarious, but I think it's a really nice idea too.
They're also open 24 hours from Thursday  to Sunday I believe. This is definitely a locals bar, and definitely a favorite hangout for casino employees and people who work in the city in general. The crowd is super friendly, like all the time. This is a perfect example of what the REAL "Jersey Shore" is: welcoming people, laid back atmosphere, and yummy food.
Hi-Point is perfect for a low-key night of drinks with friends, or for an alcohol-induced 3am wing session, or for an early and inexpensive dinner before heading out for the night!
Ok we were sent here by the women at the front desk of the hotel.
She said we had to try the soup. Ok we will. It was amazing. It changes daily and is definitely not from a can.
I got the steak and cheese sandwich for lunch. Very good.
It is a dive with GREAT FOOD. Only down side was the decor. Filled with locals, they were nice, but definitely a locals bar.
Big bar and they had plenty of TV's to watch the games. I was there on a Saturday and they had plenty of college football games on.
It's divey and small but the food is good. Â The garlic steamed clams were big and fresh, and the crab bisque was excellent. On Tuesday night they had karaoke, which is a pro or con, depending on your taste. Â We had a good late dinner, despite the Celine Dion wailing in the background.
Review Source:We usually go to the Hi-Point for lunch, and have never been disappointed. Seating is never a problem, and the bartender (Beth) is an absolute gem! Cold beer, great "pub grub" as well as a complete menu just can't be beat. Check the daily specials, and you won't be disappointed either.
Friendly crowd, and you always feel welcome. I have no problem bringing the kids in for a nice lunch.
Great food and great service.
Hi Point menu is extensive and well prepared.
Today I started with a cup of the French Onion soup had the Roast Beef and Provolone sandwich special. It was fantastic. If you're ever in the area, don't let the unassuming facade keep you from wandering inside for a great meal.
I'm mixed on this one. Â I've stayed in Absecon a couple of times and I've always eaten at the chains. Â This time, I felt that it required a change, so I took the advice (which included a menu) of my hotelier and decided to go to the Hi-Point (which goes by the local name of Skelly's Hi Point Pub). Â When you walk in, the bar is dead center in front of you. Â There's a sign that bids you to wait to be seated, but on this Tuesday night, it appeared to be a very moderate crowd, so I found a comfortable space at the bar and sat down. Â The bar is a full bar run by Mike, the owner (at least I think that was Mike). Â I'm a beer guy, so I was a little depressed by the selection which consisted of all of the common beer and offered only Blue Moon and YuengLing as "craft" beers (although in most parts of PA, YuengLing is a coomon beer). Â I opted for the Blue Moon and decided (in advance - remember, I had had a menu bestowed on me by my hotel buddy!!) to go with the "hot" wings and a Caesar Salad with Blackened Prime Rib. Â As a side note, the menu is packed, I mean, you can get just about anything here - which is not always the best option because it means that there really isn't a whole lot of care given to each dish.
Right to the point - the wings were not hot (more tomatoey) and the salad was less than impressive (Prime Rib didn't taste like prime rib, but more like sirloin or flank and there were some mighty big lettuce leaves in there - I mean, mighty big!!).
Definitely a local hangout and just a little too scattered for my tastes. Â One more thing, they have this bar/food system where the bar charges you seperately from the food (the bartender wouldn't take my food order, but instead put my menu on end in front of me so that the waitress could come and take the order) and they end up combining it at the end. Â I know that it is standard, but in most places the process is transparent to the customer - I get one bill and pay one bill. Â I leave that to you to decide how you feel on that one.
The people are friendly and the bar is lit just enough so that you can see your food, but is dark enough to be comfortable. Â All in all, I would recommend Hi Point if you need something on the quick and don't want to do fast food, but if you are looking for a variety of beers and some really great food, I'm sure there are other alternatives. Â Also, they are open 24 hours from Thursday through Sunday, so if you need some 3 AM breakfast (they serve breakfast from 2 AM - 11 AM) this would be the place to go!
Roast DUCK in a PUB? Â Yeah, Â Really, Â and it's great! Â This place IS the Hot spot in Absecon. Â Just ask the locals. Â Great Service. Â And the Owner is there to personally see to your satisfaction. Â A FUN, Â Lively environment with Great Food. Â And Yes, Â They serve up a killer Roast DUCK with a Banana Sauce. Â It's usually packed, Â but being seated quickly is usually not a problem. Â Creative parking may be needed on Saturday Nights. Â The Steam Post appetizer is a Great Start. Â The High Point Pasta is Great too!. Â Bring Friends and Enjoy! Â We Did!
