We visit High Tides often, not really for the food or the service, but the atmosphere and location are really nice. The food is okay and the service is usually not all that great, but we keep going back because we like to sit by the river, listen to the band or just watch people walking by.
Review Source:Don't waste your time. Go to Willey's or the Thai place at the beach! The food is bad, and I cannot tell whether any of it is fresh. I honestly don't think they have a trained chef, maybe just someone who over cooks the food. I have been here three times and each time was bad.
The place is okay if you want to sit next to the beach and drink, but don't make this the  big dining out experience of your trip to Colonial Beach. If you want good crabs and shrimp hit one of the road side joints. The crabs are fresh and prepped by locals.
Second time eating here, first was a few years ago. This time service was slooow took 2 hours for the seating to the leaving. My NY Strip had little flavor and a smiggin taste of A1??? I never had A1 on an ordered steak and if I have to put something on my steak then that is bad. My steak came without a steak knife so with the slow service it was until I ate all my fries till I got my knife. Waitress disappeared for extended periods of time and came back with nothing in her hands. Smokers on the deck so if you don't like smoke then probably a bad idea.
(+) On the river and live band playing
We have been here twice. The first time wasn't too bad, but our most recent visit was terrible. I ordered a quesadilla, my fiance ordered a seafood platter. He says his food was delicious, however mine was pretty much a 10$ tortilla with cheese. Our waitress did not check on us frequently, brought us the wrong drink at one point...when she finally gave us the check after 20 minutes of being done with our dinner, she didn't pick it up with the card for another 15. THEN, when she did pick it up, she didn't give it back for another 10 minutes because she had given our card to another couple and charged their food on ours. When she realized this, she got the card back and had to run it again, which was in no hurry to do even though she had GIVEN AWAY our credit card without noticing....when she finally finally did run the correct amount, we had been there for a ridiculous amount of time and nothing was compensated for whatsoever. The service was wretched, we didn't even really get an apology except for the manager who said, "sorry about that, dude." in the end.
Review Source:So so bad. We got oyster sandwiches which consisted of burnt oysters on dry bread, no sauce, no lettuce, nothing...we got a burnt hamburger too. I used to work at a fast food place and even there our manager would have never let us serve food so clearly overcooked. The service seemed poorly organized. Just one of the worst eating experiences I've had in a while... I got the sense no one was at the helm, which is a shame because the atmosphere and location were great.
Review Source:Not worth it.
Maybe for beers only on the deck, overlooking the beach on a nice day with only beers (the frozen drinks with "alcohol" taste like powdered cool-aid stuff).
The food however is not worth it. I had the fried oyster platter with french fries and cole slaw. Not even the french fries were done correctly, they were all soggy and greasy. The oysters were ok to mediocre.
So, avoid the food, just get drunk on the deck with a few beers and find someplace else to go & let me know where that is so I can have some decent summery/shore-type seafood.
Disappointed. Â Having lived in several states, various countries and travelled for work and personal reasons, I have never in my life experienced such service at a restaurant. Â I grew up on the water and lived on the water most of my life and really know my seafood. Â Still trying to figure out what happened here.
Had dinner at this restaurant with a friend who is a boater and unfortunately, we have to not recommend this place to any of our friends who frequent colonial beach. Â Ordered stuffed shrimp and specifically asked the server if it was lump crab or the usual crab with mayo and breading. Â She insisted it was lump crab. Â The food arrived and it was crab balls with shredded crab with mayo and breading thrown on top of some shrimp. Â Complained to the waitress and she ignored us. Â Starving so we ate and then asked to speak with the Manager. Â
Manager did not listen, argued with us in disagreement and opted to comp both of our meals and asked us to leave the restaurant. Â I am not a restaurant owner and usually do not complain about food but it was what it was. Â Nobody asked for a free meal. Â Look at my reviews: I eat at a lot of high-end restaurants and have no complaints! Â
To top it off, as we left the place the manager asked the "bouncer" Â to not allow us in the Tiki bar next door. Â This is utter stupidity. Â Ok now they do not want us to spend another $100 bucks on booze...come on?? Â I can only conclude that they do not know how to treat their customers or maybe they have so much business since they are one of the few restaurants in the area and do not need any more business. Â
After doing some research, I find out the manager was actually the Owner wow!!! Â All I can say is that if they do not need any more business, we are glad to tell all of our boater friends not to patronize this restaurant. Â Otherwise, the owner should take responsibility and apologize for her behavior and poor customer service.
