This place seems like a decent spot to drink a few cheap beers and watch a game. It has booths and plenty of seating at the bar, both of which I like. I ordered a hamburger and had a Blue Moon. Their beer selection was pretty paltry--pretty much just Ziegenbock, Shiner and the Blue Moon I ordered. Their food menu is pretty skimpy, as well, but they have a fair selection of sandwiches and burgers. I ordered a "Black and Blue" burger. The juice from the burger soaked through the bun before I even got a chance to bite into it, which was disappointing. The blue cheese had good flavor and they managed to cook my burger medium rare as I requested. The waffle fries were piping hot but under-salted. Our server was fairly attentive and did a good job. I would like to give this place three stars, but I just couldn't get past the soggy burger and the limited beer selection.

This place has the worst service in Denton. Great food, drinks, and atmosphere the service just sucks.

They have gotten rid of all the staff that has been here forever. It takes forever to get service now. Also, they should give the designated driver free Sprite.

I know that the food scene in Denton is definitely lacking in comparison to larger areas like Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin, but this food was inedible. My girlfriend and I had been here once before and it wasn't really that bad, but they must have gotten a new chef or started purchasing their food from another vendor or something because everything we ordered tasted as if someone had dumped a bucket of salt on it. We had the calamari (incredibly greasy) chips and salsa (chips were lying underneath an ocean of salt) and I had the club sandwich which tasted as though someone had sprinkled salt on it as well. Why anyone would sprinkle salt on a club sandwich is beyond me, but it happened. Both my girlfriend and I had stomachaches after our eating experience here and this meal was actually bad enough to put me in an angry mood. I rarely eat something so gross that it makes me upset. I will not be going back here, anyone that writes a review saying that this food is good, either works for Hooligans or has the palate of an unrefined hobo.

Hooligans is an alright place to go on the Denton Square. They have beer and food, which is always a plus to a place that doesn't!

I will say that the wait service has always been slow. I would recommend ordering at the bar, but that can be difficult if you are upstairs or sitting at a table.

Hooligans is one of many bars on and surrounding the square in Denton.  It's a solid place to get a brew, but I've never felt it stood out in town.  The service can be slow, the food is solid, and there are a few things to keep the patrons entertained.  I can't say this a must go to bar, but it's clean and the drinks are pretty cheap.

I'm pretty offended. My username and online alias for a lot of places is Whooligan so that's pretty much the only reason I went here. I've been here several times whenever I visited Denton, but every time I went this place got worst!

Service is HORRIBLE. Most of the wait staff here are SO incredibly airheaded and incompetent. They take FOREVER to get your items, get refills, take check and payment. I swear we've been stuck here for almost a full hour trying to pay our check on many occasions. And it's not like it's packed when we go or that we order a lot of items. It's usually just a drink and maybe some chips. They mess up bill-splits a lot too and can't fix it so you'll just have a pending charge on your card for days.

Food is meh, and a bit pricey for the quantity/quality. Music is way too loud to carry a conversation. Sure they got a large bar, some basic bar games, billiard and the rest. It's all pretty standard but nothing special. It could've been so awesome but overall it's pretty lamesauce.

Again, we've frequented this placed a lot back in the day, but one night we couldn't stand the service cause it was soo bad. Other tables and groups around us were complaining too. We vowed to never go again and haven't gone since. They ruined my namesake.

the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, it just was, existing only to be made into calories to burn. the alcohol is alcohol and the mixed drinks are ok. Not impressed by any means

    Hooligans, Saturday, September 15

This place is a great watering hole for friends to kick back and enjoy the evening. The atmosphere was not quite as busy as Austin's infamous 6th street, but has the same comfortable warmth. Everyone is there to have a good, relaxed time.

Drink specials were decent, No problem finding a table, and our waitress was just as cute as a baby sugar glider all hyped up on glow worms. Nice place on the square.

I go here in the mid-day when everything is slow.

The 5-dollar lunch menu has a large variety and the chicken fried steak sandwich, cuban and veggie quesadilla eaten so far have all been winners.  As for the drinks, I'm more of a microbrew fan but when a ziegenbock will do, it is on special for 1.25 on several days.

I'll keep this short. I'm new to Denton and have been looking for a good place to grab a drink after writing papers non stop at school.

First off, it's hard to review bars in general. Everyone has their own personal likes and taste. As a friend of mine said, 'Reviewing bars is like reviewing music, everyone likes different things.' So keep that in mind as you read any bar review.

Hooligans is a typical college bar but better then those on Fry Street (which I'm NOT a fan of at all). I think it will be my go-to when I just want a laid back place and a beer.

Gosh I really really love this place but the wait staff are freaking retards.... And that's being nice. Likes: the awesome couches up stairs. I've hosted many parties here. The food is pretty good too and comes out quickly. Food prices arnt bad.  Dislikes: idiot waitresses. I swear one is a crack head. The specials suck too compared to fry street. Also there are these very annoying gnats that are always buzzing around. ...... Regardless I still love it here but I'll be sitting at the bar from now on. They really need to fire every waitress they have and start fresh.

I'm keeping this review short and sweet. The first time I walked into Hooligan's, well, I didn't make it past the front door. Upon opening it a blast of absolute STANK flew at me that was so awful I almost fainted. Stumbled two steps backward and moved on. Fresh vomit, bleach, and spoiled meat are my unconfirmed suspicions.

As far as their noms go, I came here for lunch one time when they had some deal along the lines of "out in fifteen minutes or it's free." Our food (meh-quality) was not out in fifteen minutes and it was not free. Rude servers, too.

    Will not be back.

I can't comment on their food, drinks or staff because we sat there for a good 15-20 minutes without any server ever approaching us.  It was in the afternoon.  Only one other customer was in the entire restaurant/pub, so being busy was not the reason for the lack of service.  We left to go to Loophole where we received prompt service from a friendly staff.

Stopped in this place on a tuesday, i think, $2.00 shots was the special. Can't really beat that especially when Patron makes the list!!!!!
My husband and I sat at the bar, so we had great service, the bartender was really nice and knowledgeable.  Good beer on tap, soccer on the tv, pool upstairs and pretty sure I saw some darts.  Didn't get any food but the guy sitting next to us had a pretty bad ass looking sandwhich.  Not the best bar I've ever been to but would go back the next time I'm in Denton.

Hooligans is one of the worst bars that I have been to in Denton. I have been several times, but no more. The service is terrible. If you are on the second floor, good luck getting a drink even when it isn't busy. Also, good luck getting a waitress or bartender without an attitude. One of the owners was an extremely unpleasant man and the place is generally very uninviting. I would recommend checking out any of the other bars on the square if you're looking for good food or cheap drinks. Every bar around downtown has specials and the food and drinks are better elsewhere.

I really like this place, but if you are a woman that has even a full set of teeth, the waitresses will be RUDE to you. Mostly, I have gone here with guy friends, which I guess makes the waitresses feel as though they can ignore you or treat you as an afterthought. I have waited tables for years and I would never act this way.

It's really sad, because the food isn't bad and I love sports.

I really like Hooligan's. I went there yesterday to have some drinks and throw some darts. This place is pretty big. It has upstairs, downstairs, and bar seating. All seating is taken care of by the waitstaff.

I have had the food here. Its pretty good. I wouldn't mind eating it again. Not the best, but far from the worst. The drinks they served us yesterday were pretty stout. We ordered up some darts and we received the worst darts that I have ever seen. Now, I am no darts elitist. I just play for fun when I'm drinking. But these are plastic, bent, and weigh less than a gram. We had a hard time getting them to stick in the board. But hey, whatever...we played on.

They have an internet jukebox downstairs. I threw in 5 bucks and dominated the play list for an hour. They were playing some sad bastard music before the jukebox kicked in.

I think we had 5 or 6 Jack & Cokes and the bill came to about 20 bucks. Pretty cheap if you ask me! I recommend stopping into this place if you are in Denton. Its not the most unique bar, but its a good one.

I don't regularly go here enough to say I that I love this place - thus the 4 stars.  If I could give Hooligan's a 4.5, I totally would.

Their location right on the Square is great.  I like when they have live music... shoot, I can't remember which night(s) those are, but I'm sure you can find that on their website.  The staff is really friendly and the waitstaff takes care of you.  One time I did go there for lunch and the service was a bit slow, but there was only one girl working and duh, it's obviously not their busiest time of the day, so I didn't hold it against her.  Every other time I've gone, the service was great.

They usually have drink specials almost every night of the week:
    * Mondays:   $1 Select Domestic Drafts, $2 Premium Drafts
    * Texas Tuesdays: $1 Ziegenbock Drafts, $1 Shiner Drafts, $3.50 Texas Teas.
    * Wednesdays:  $1.50 Wells
    * Thursdays: $2 Zieginbock Drafts, $3.50 Frozen Drinks
    * Fridays: $2.50 Domestic Long Necks!
    * Saturdays: $3 Import Long Necks!
    * Sundays: $10 Buckets for all Cowboys games!
(The $10 Bucket also applies to Mavs and Stars games)

Me being a girl who likes to wear her heels, I always appreciate a bar with ample seating, and Hooligan's doesn't fail there.  Plenty of tables and booths downstairs.  Even better, they have couches upstairs!  They also have dart boards and pool tables upstairs.

And like Amanda W. said, their food is noteworthy bar food.  Fried pickles...mmmm.  I also like their fish & chips.  My boyfriend usually gets their philly cheesesteak.

Man, I haven't been here in a while...after writing this review I just may have to pay Hooligan's a visit!!

How does this place not have any reviews yet?  Hooligan's is one of my (and my friends) favorite bars in Denton.  It's very cozy and looks out onto the square, and it is never overrun by frat guys like the bars on Fry St. It does get a little crowded on Tuesday nights when they have $1 shiner and ziegen, but that's definitely the best night to go.

Also, they have amazingly good bar food.  The grilled salmon is delicious and the tilapia sandwich is very good, too.
