Great Fresh Tasty Food. I had the NY strip, my fiance had a sirloin. We used an old http://restaurant.com certificate, no problem. Call ahead to make sure there are no events at the palace though.

My best male friend and I went here before going to see the Harlem Globetrotters and found it to be a pleasant dinner. I wouldn't recommend the hamburger because it was salty and probably a frozen patty but we did go back to watch Monday Night football. When we did we had their buffalo wings, which were hot as hell and great.

I would go back for the wings, atmosphere and service. Don't expect much from the decor, the atmosphere all comes from the people.

This place has some potential, but they're not living up to it. They have some really rad 70's and 80's sports memorbilia and they could be a super authentic old school sports bar. As it is now though, they're treading in that weird no mans land called "the old bar thats trying to update." We're gonna try to change that with a generous 3 star review and a couple quick tips to really spiff up the joint. Lets start at the beginning. When I walked in the door I was assaulted by a wave of cheap perfume and 4 year old Britiney tunes on the jukebox. That combination can mean only one thing; late 40's moms who stole their daughters club tops, doing a booty dance. For an encore performance we were treated to a duet of Journey's "Dont Stop Believing" by the very same bleach blond patrons. It was really something... This is an easy fix. When you're a couple hours deep into happy hour, and you start to hear those certain tunes coming from the jukebox, turn the volume down. Doesn't have to be a lot, but you have to be proactive. Little bit goes a long way. Second thing, stop hosting the golf tournaments on a Monday. Monday golf tournaments attract a certain crowd. In Ohio we call them rednecks. Michigan, I hear, calls them U.P.'ers. In Washington they are "those who dwell with Sasquatch." Now I've got a little redneck in my blood so I can relate. But we both know that 4 hours on the golf course followed immediately by happy hour('s) does not make for a good Monday night experience. Save that for the weekend. Everybody expects a party on the weekend. On Monday I'm looking for a more subdued experience.

The food left something to be desired. Wings were dry and the fries tasted slightly fishy. But I think that was a side effect of golf tournament chaos. The service was actually quite good, which was a pleasant surprise. I really thought when I sat down at a booth that I would never see the waitress but she was really on the ball.

Last thing, fix the broken booth. Its the one I was sitting in... Thanks!

Cranky bartender, lousy pool table. They had Magic Hat #9 which thrilled me but that was where my joy ended. Had an aged, run down feel. Maybe some call it comfy and homey? Maybe it's just not my type of place (true) but I can certainly gauge good service no matter where I go and this girl was not friendly. She was more interested in getting back to her cell phone than smiling. My friend who wanted to come just to play pool said he has never played on a worse table. The cue ball kept rolling long after the shot was complete. Again it isn't my kind of place but if you are looking for a friendly face with your drink...find somewhere else.

Clearly, a favorite of the locals. It is an old-school bar. By that I mean, the decor is better not examined and the only windows are on the doors so it's like a cave in there. There is a projection screen, some flatscreens, and some old-school tvs in the booths.

Went last week to watch the US in the World Cup. I had the club sandwich and it was yummy. Tried the bf's wings and they are pretty hot and his personal favorite wings in the world. J went with the lunch buffet, which was a questionable choice, but he was satisfied at least with the salad.

We were from out of town and had tickets to a Pistons' Game. We wanted to watch the playoffs and then head to the game so we searched for local Sports Bars and we found a gem! Friendly and fun staff, great beer prices, and lots of TV's and other sports bar activities. Food was decent as well.

The best part...$4 Shuttle Service to the Pistons Game. No need for parking at the game. Quick and easy drop-off/pick-up at the game. And you can drink and not worry about driving home.

Only drawback was the lack of HD television. I never understand why bars have HD TVs but not the HD service. From the sign out front it said they have Sunday Ticket so if it was regular season NFL I'd be here to watch games!

Much better than the Post Bar up the street. Always had a good time at this place as long as I got a good waitress. If you're not happy, ask for a different one or move to her section. For a quick, no-wait lunch they have the hot plate special - A different dish every day. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes is killer and also the homemade tomato Florentine soup. The Philly cheese-steak and the "Hoops" burger are pretty good too. They have good fried perch too, but I can't remember if that was a special or not. Their kitchen is a little pokey so don't expect a quick lunch if you don't do the hot plate.

If you're going to a night event at the Palace, park at Hoops and then take the Hoops bus. Much easier, fun, and safe. (Ask your waitress about it) Use the money you save from Palace parking to play some pool, darts, or Keno. After you get back with your friends to hang out after the concert/event, order things not on the menu (may have to be a regular) like chili cheese fries with crumbled bacon and a dollup or two of sour cream on top and salt to taste. Goes good with drinking you've done up to this point and taste real good. Will also establish a nice base for what you will order soon after.

Again, not on the menu, it's called the "Shark(s) Bowl". I'm not saying anything more. You'll have to experience it for yourself. And make sure you have a few friends to help out on this one!

You'll find Hoops about a 1/2 mile south of the Palace on Lapeer Road, exactly where Opdyke splits off from Lapeer.
Hoops is a classic sports bar, with lots of decor to match. And good wall material too... not too cheesy, they've got some old stuff in there. As opposed to many Detroit bars where the standard Red Wings Mirror is all you need to put Sports Bar in the title of your restaurant. Seriously, can a brother get a REAL sports bar in Royal Oak?
The food here gets maybe 3 stars... I mean, it's bar food. It might be better bar food than you'd usually have, but it's bar food.

Great spot before a Pistons game. You can ride a shuttle for $5 and it's very EASY. They'll drop you off and pick you up at the East entrance, and don't worry!!! They have 3 shuttles running. We walked out of the Palace as a shuttle was driving away and waited 2 minutes before the next one pulled up.

Great bar.

Awwwww, Hoops. I treasure all of my blurred memories of you.
Karaoke.
Erotic Megatouch with KMS and Jeremy.
Golden Tee.
Watching the Wings on their way to the Championship.
Long talks with Tray.

When I lived in Metro Detroit, my friends and I used to haunt this place. Nothing special to look at, not in a cool area, and a sports bar to boot.

However...

Hands DOWN, the best BLT I've ever had (except Mom's...I mean, come on...). Also, the beer was very reasonably priced.

If you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods, check it out. Order a BLT and a LaBatt Blue Light, and enjoy!
