In Flagstaff for the weekend and checking out a local tap house. It was a great surprise! 28 beers on tap and always changing. I ordered a beer that taste a little off. Our bartender, Kyle, was great about it, sampling the beer himself to figure out what was the issue. He gave me a new beer and was super accommodating. Another couple came in very naive about beer and Kyle was great getting them a sampling of beer, explaining the styles and tastes. Love seeing bud drinkers converted! Check this place out!
Review Source:Ahh yes, gotta love another bar to go to in Flagstaff. Â You will find a large beer selection, friendly staff, and relaxed customers. Â I'm pretty simple when it comes to beer so it was nice that they had a menu with lots of information. Â It had the price, alcohol content, and a breakdown of the taste. Â If you are like me, you may want to sample some before getting a whole glass. Â This was something the bartenders offered before I had to ask. Maybe it's because I was indecisive...hmm not sure, but it was awesome! Â
It was pretty busy when I was there, but the noise level isn't bad at all. Â I enjoyed sitting by the bar sampling beers and chatting up other customers. Â All in all, I will definitely be back for some more beer.
would definitely recommend. walked in on a wednesday afternoon and was greeted with respectable service. Â cody was above the standard. kudos. around 20+ beers on draft. lots of selection. having been to a lot of the local breweries in flagtown, i would recommend this place to any beer connoisseur looking to escape the norm.
Review Source:Hops on Birch is like the Thomas Edison of places to drink beers. Because every once in a while a place will take you aback for their showing of pure ingenuity.
They innovate.
Half Pints- Who the hell offers a half pint of beer? I've never even heard of one. HOB offers them. And with their selection of beer, half pints work perfectly because it makes you able to try more beers out and usually by the end of a full beer you cant even taste it anymore because your taste buds are bored. Also, with their selection, it can make it difficult to choose what beer you want. But half pints solves these problems. They allow you to sample more. Also my girlfriend who was the designated driver, who is a decided light weight, could have a half pint of beer to sip on and not worry about a DUI.
Great selection, but not too big. (I feel like a lot of places try to hide how shitty they are by having a huge beer selection)
Good prices. (Not too bad, but there is a slight premium for a half pint of beer that , only thing I would change but its only 50 cents more than a half of a whole pint).
DOGS- they allow dogs. That alone would make me give them 5 stars.
Games- scrabble and what not...
Also the bartender deserves some major fucking kuddos: He busted his ass all night, was a super nice guy, And He showed some real hustle for the hour and a half we were there. RESPECT.
This is a place that dogs come to that people sometimes enjoy
In the last survey of the puppies I saw at the bar
Only the dachshund was apathetic
(but aren't they always?!)
The rest of the dogs voted this the best bar in Flagstaff
I don't know if I would go that far
Dogs are extremists after a few too many delicious hops
But this bar is amazing
I would take off a star for the Apples To Apples game being in poor condition
But I am just bitter I lost
"My sex life is boring and expensive?"
I think I am just bitter that those
Were my green apples
But once you get an IPA and pet a puppy
Then you feel comforted again.
When reviews state that this place is dog friendly, you should know they mean DOG FRIENDLY. Â I've been there times when our four legged patrons have... how you say... unleashed a coiler? and no-one bats an eyelid. It's just promptly cleaned up. Â no drama.
They also do a good job tolerating a curmudgeonly barfly like myself, who prefers to do his drinking before the crowds arrive in the evening. One of only three places in town where the barkeeps bother to call me by name - i'm a sucker for that - but i've seen people from all walks of life here - it 's a great example of the 'third room' mentioned here http://www.youtube.com/w…
great beer selection, reasonable pricing, knowledgeable staff. It's as good as it gets in Flagstaff.
Hops on Birch is my kind of place! Flagstaff is a place where you can get away far enough from Tucson and find these gems! They have many beers on tap and most of them are craft beers. We spent a long time here playing board games and drinking.
It gets packed but it is a great atmosphere. Dogs are welcome and I did see quite a few there. As we were leaving a band was starting to play music so they do have that as well. I can't wait to come back here!
Nice craft beer selection with darn good pricing, even though you get a 14oz glass (not a full pint) with most beers. It's pretty laid back with a slightly hipster vibe. I haven't been there with live music, but the place is a bit small so I think I would avoid going unless it was an act I really wanted to see.
Review Source:I love Hops, and I must say I've never had a bad time there. I've even had a friend ditch me at the bar mid drink there, and I still had a good time. They always have good beer, its always a friendly atmosphere and they also let you bring in dogs which is nice. They even let my sister bring her puppy in once and it played with the owners dog running around the bar. There's always different and diverse people in there and of course the beer is great and well priced. Even my friends who don't like beer still end up having a good time there. The one complaint I have is the live music is not always that great, however I have endured pretty awful live acts at Hops and still had a really good night so not a big issue for me.
Review Source:What a great little spot I stumbled upon on New Years day when the brewery I wanted to go to was closed for the holiday.
The staff, and by staff I mean the bartender (Owner?) and his dog who were the only ones in their were both very friendly and welcoming.
The bar has a bunch of taps of mostly craft beer that change on a regular basis and presenting an impressive selection with many in state brews on the list.
Add in a bunch of board game to play while you sit back and relax with friends and this is a winning spot.
Also seems like they have live music and trivia games at different times in the week.
Don't hesitate to stop in and if you have any questions on beers ask away as the staff seems to know their stuff, although the dog may not answer clearly so ask the man behind the bar if the dog approach doesn't quite work out.
Well, add another bar to my list of places Stephanie H. and I will visit during our Flagstaff Bar Crawls. Hops on Birch has a huge selection of beers on tap, the staff is very friendly, and the packed bar has a great energy.
Not sure what to get? Their extensive menu will break down the prices, type of beer and alcoholic content (see my photo). Still not sure? They'll give you some samples before you buy a pint. This bar has only been open since April 2012 and they already got it right. They are attached to Vino Loco Wine Bar and Nando's Grill (who offer a free chips & salsa with a yelp check-in!), so there is something for everyone right in the area.
The beer selection is great. Â The actual bar is cool. Â The place attracts a few too many hipster types to make it a regular stop when I go downtown. Â The last time we went, one of the owners was playing guitar, singing (slightly off-key), with his shirt mostly unbuttoned. Â I could do with out that... Â Overall, I enjoy the beer selection for a few drinks before moving on to another location.
Review Source:Hops On Birch is a great, low-key bar. They have a ton of beer on tap (apparently 28) and at great prices. I just moved from San Francisco to Flagstaff, and let me tell you, these beers would be like 4 times the price there. So drink up!
I love that they let dogs in- makes it so much easier for all my dog owning friends. A really nice place, the owners are super nice, great selection, and location can't be beat.
Also, they have board games. It seems everywhere in Flag does, but it's got such a great ambiance for it. Definitely worth a stop!
Hops on Birch is, quite simply, perfectly Flagstaff. It's hip but still casual and the atmosphere screams RELAX! DRINK ALL THE BEER! YOU'VE HAD A ROUGH DAY!
So I do. I have never seen it empty and I usually run into at least a couple people I know. It's just another great place that makes Flagstaff the cozy, fun community that it is. They have live music and events many days a week, I recently saw a blues-y band and an open mic night! They also do trivia. Not just for Fridays, this is a great bar any day of the week.
This place explains Flag to a tee. Â Casual hippie college lumberjack types hanging out at a really chill atmosphere, FULL of micro brews on tap! Â Not to mention, darts, and cute dogs everywhere. Â This place is the perfect hangout for a chill night out. Â My first time here, I had the best Hefeweizen I have ever had in my life. Â I can't even recall the long German brewery...but it was one of those beers that tasted life-changing. Â It was so good! Â I came back the second time and they were out...figures :(
You also have to be able to try new beers to like this place. Â That's the kind of thing I will miss the most about Flagstaff!
Great people, Great Beers
I love this place. It breaks my heart that this place just opened and I have to leave Flagstaff. Great great place. So many beers on tap and they are always changing. It is great for me and my friends because we love exploring new beers and it helps to be surrounded by people who know so much about beers and can talk to you about it. It is really easy to come here, sit down and make friends.
My all time favorite beer place. Definitely number 1 on my list.
I don't always write reviews on Yelp but when I do I write them for a place that deserves it. Hops on Birch is hands down the coolest bar in Flagstaff. They rotate out the 28 beers on tap. Don't come expecting crap beer (coors light) because they won't have it... all A+ on tap! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a good atmosphere and great staff check it out!
PS: They are super dog friendly so bring in your pup for a discount on your first beer.
