I love all the food at the house; although I have been disappointed by old desserts being served to me. I always go for the patio later in the evening but I notice the kitchen can be out of a lot of things if you go after 8 pm.

Otherwise good food, great servers, and great atmosphere.

A little over 2 years later I gave "The House" another shot for dinner and again it was a HUGE let down. I ordered the Vegan "burger" with the Pico topping. The Vegan patty was crispy on the outside (blackened but not quite burned) and a doughy tasteless, blander than bland mess on the inside. I own my part in the disappointment because I should have sent it back, but part of me wanted someone  to inquire about the massive pile of would be burger dough on my plate ... Basically, I ate the bun with the pico and lettuce. My (now husband) had a burger (all natural, grain fed, organic & all those other bells and whistles) that probably would have been amazing had it not been way overcooked and extremely dry. For the price, the house fails, yet again.

After several years away and having lackluster food back then, decided to try them again tonight as I had heard they had a new burger menu. First off, they have a pretty good craft beer selection (for Arkansas anyway). I ordered a North Coast Pranqster and the first problem was they served it in a chilled pint glass.  Many local places are getting on board with the explosion in popularity with craft beers and how to serve them. They got the beer correct, but it should have been served in a snifter.
The menu had fries as appetizers and seeing they had a "bucket" size for 5.75, we thought that would be plenty for both of us. Wrong. They were extremely delicious with just the right crispy texture. However, you can get 3 times the size at Five Guys Burgers that are the same quality.  Wife had the Pico De Gallo veggie burger and it was downright awful.  The veggie patty was doughy and bland, luckily, the bun was pretty good and the toppings were just OK.  I had the The Jerk burger that was overdone and the flavor was just mediocre.  The location is nice, atmosphere is really cool and relaxed, service is friendly and prompt. This place is great for hanging out with friends drinking and having appetizers, but the food is just not up to par for the price.  If you want great burgers, go to The Root or Big Orange.

Used to love this place. Now the overwhelming smell of sewage greets you as you enter the door.  Hate it for them because I really wanted this place to make it.  It wont if some serious  changes are not made!

I've been here before for lunch and came this morning for brunch. The thing is, the food is fantastic. The service is dreadful. It took us an hour and thirty minutes from the time we walked in until we had our food. And every table wasn't taken, so I really couldn't figure out why. The waitress was attentive and polite, but the wait time ruined our experience.

    Tldr:

PERFECT! A funky atmosphere, and one of the best burgers in the country... Hands down!! Go, go, go!

    Details...

When I'm not on raw food or enjoying green juice days, I sometimes have myself a grass fed burger. (Women need iron, especially at certain times) They're good to round out the kid's nutrition, too.

When you must eat meat, grass fed is really the best for you, the animal, and the environment. And the meat here is not just grass fed, it's local -- and they seem to really know their source, as ethical, quality oriented people should.

All together, my family and I tried 4 burgers, with one burger and a sandwich to go (six things total)

Espresso mole burger -- They mean it, careful!

Bird's nest with egg -- you won't believe the amazing bun! Eye popping!

    Mac n' cheese burger -- kid's favorite, along w/ the bird's nest!

Mushroom duxelle -- Unbelievably skilled toppings! A must try! Could win a national contest, easily.

Bourbon black apple -- Another creative must try. This and the mushroom duxelle (or bird's nest) would make an incredibly delicious date night!

Also tried the swiss dip, which had unbelievably good cuts of steak. Holy moly. Philly's cheesesteaks are inferior comparatively.

Got a small regular fry and large sweet potato. All were excellent. Too excellent, if you ask me. All the sauces were amazing (got an assortment) except that we didn't enjoy the curry ketchup as much as we thought we would. The standard ketchup was delightful, as was the pepper marmalade and fry sauce.

The side salad was incredible, too. Strawberry vinaigrette, holy moly!

I can say these were easily the best burgers in the last few years. Maybe even ever, but I can't remember back that far :) (honestly, bbqs at friends and even strangers houses tend to be better than most burger places... This is one of the rare exceptions)

Even the buns were worth eating, despite the empty calories, which I haven't experienced in awhile. Whoever sourced the ingredients is as smart as the fella who brilliantly cooked 'em!

Nothing is bad here. If anything, I could say the mac n' cheese as my least favorite, only because the other ones were kinda mind blowing. The mac n' cheese this night was a bit cooler looking than it was outright tasty. I'd also try alternate curry powders for their special ketchup.

Easily 10 times better than Gordon Ramsay's new BURGR place in Las Vegas, which I visited just a few days beforehand. Aside from Gordon's excellent fromage and euro burgers (which are all about the toppings), there is no true comparison.

If anything, the travel channels need to come to "The House"'.. and I'm very serious! The fam and a couple of business buddies ate 3 times at Gordon's because it was the best place near our hotel... so I know what I'm talking about. Gordon loses this round.

A world better than famous CJs, which uses terrible meat and was extremely rude when I asked about grass fed. This restaurant is much friendlier and more conscious, too.

A few times better than Holsteins. How many times depends on the particular burger. Let's just say 3 to 9x. :) :p (although Holsteins gold standard is probably the closest, The House still beats it handily)

And even a bit better (and crazily enough, even more creative!), than Bobby Flay's amazing burger joint in Mount Laurel, NJ. My previous favorite from the past few years, and one of the few I still crave.

Mind you, based on other reviews, I am guessing that their very best chef was in the night of my visit. I hope this magic burger chef is in when you visit, too!

Great work, guys! Now if you could consider adding some fresh pressed juices and maybe some Matt Kenney inspired raw desserts (ala Pure Food N' Wine in NYC or In The Raw Chicago, everyone --carnivore or not-- loves these style of non diabetes causing desserts), I'd be in heaven!

A very strong 3 star, almost a four.  I did enjoy the meal, and the location is charming as can be.  An old house turned restaurant.  A few low top tables scattered with a bar.  Seats at the very end on the bar.  There is an upstairs area as well, though I did not check it out.  This neighborhood looks awesome, and The House certainly fits in perfectly with the charm.

A small dinner menu.  Burgers, apps, a few other sandwiches, and a salad.  I ended up with the Jerk burger.  Some kind of chutney, and jerk spice.  With sweet potato fries.  The burger came on an excellent brioche bun.  You can also get any burger vegan.  If you want the bun vegan, let them know.  The will give you a vegan bun.  The burger was good.

The service was a bit scattered.  They did not know what was on tap, the list was out of date.  After I found out what I wanted was not available, I was going to order another but the waitress walked away.  Nobody was at the bar to help either.  Anyway, just slightly annoying.  After I ordered, a few other people appeared and asked if I had been taken care of.  Which was kind of weird.

The burger was good, not great, and the service is a bit confused.  Other than that, they have a nice small beer selection and an interesting menu.  Certainly a place I will continue to support when I drive through Little Rock in the future.

Have you guys heard the expression, 'gone to hell in a handbasket'? Well, this seems to be what's happened to the overall dining experience at the house. I've been twice recently. The first time, I asked for a medium rare burger and while one side of the patty was medium rare, the other side was burnt to a crisp. I didn't bother sending it back.

The second time, I ordered the spinach and heart of palm dip. It was frozen spinach in a bechamel sauce with some canned heart of palms. It didn't taste right.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but whatever it is, its unsettling. I think I'll avoid until the reviews start trending upwards.

The House is a really enjoyable place. And yes.. It is in a house so it feels like you are visiting a friend that has good food and cold beer!
All the staff are very knowledgeable about their menu and beer. Very friendly and attentive.  Everything We have had was excellent. (Killer Burgers and Desserts Rock) My wife and I, along with a few friends have been there a few times and have sat at the bar. Fernando was our excellent bartender... Plenty of stories and keeps the drinks coming.
We do plan on sitting at a table sometime.

Great old house converted into a bar/pub/restaurant with a nice outside seating area and interesting inside ambiance.

Service was slow ... Almost rude at first. However I turned on my southern charm and managed to get a new waiter interested in my service ... so things improved greatly after that.

I love curry ... I like curry to smoke up the back of my throat and make my nose run. Soooo ... When I saw that they had a vegetarian green curry bowl on the menu, I was thrilled. Once I ate it ... I was not (thrilled).

Do not order the Thai green curry bowl... the heat is there but otherwise it's a bland unappetizing dish. It lacked any and all flavor .... at all.

However do get the fries ... fresh cut, made to order crispy yumminess served with all sorts of dippers (if you ask and bat your eyelashes just rite they may bring you a few extra). I loved the curried one. What can I say ... I love curry.

The parking lot is a nightmare ... But the small selection of beer on tap and the fries make this a good place to stop for pub grub and hang out ... If you are perhaps in close proximity. However ... I would not go out of my way for 'The House'; its just not quite that worthwhile of a visit.

Great place for burgers and brunch.  Also, I have never had fries (sweet potato or regular) that have tasted better than this place.  It is a great place to go sit down and have conversation during the spring time because of their outside patio and it is in the historic district of town, making it quite nice.

Here on business for two weeks from Austin. I always like to try local places and avoid chains like the plague. I was in luck when I visited this place on a Sunday morning for Brunch.

Their coffee is outstanding, very smooth.

I had the risotto benedict, which is a traditional benedict with asparagus, small new potatoes, and fruit of the day. I am not normally a new potatoes fan, but their rendition has me reconsidering my stance. They were perfectly seasoned and not too crisp, perfect french fry texture indeed. The fruit was good but the cantaloupe was a bit on the not-quite-ripe side. The eggs were perfectly poached, as is the standard.

The ambiance was relaxed, no screaming children in site. Their beer menu was extensive, I'll be back for dinner!

Another place that we want to like. The food is decent but not spectacular. The waitstaff are way too hip to bother with serving or getting your order correct.  They are often out of items.

The menu is small which should be good but it isn't really.

On the other hand if you are not in a rush and don't mind your waiter getting your drink wrong it can be a fun place to hang out.

We haven't been to this facility since it was Sufficient Grounds...of which we were not fans (stupid prepositions).

We went on a lark today b/c we had an errand in the area and wanted to try something new.

The decor hasn't changed much as far as I can remember...perhaps fewer couches...but still very definitely a converted, beautiful, old home. Wood floors, open ceiling, beautiful staircase, all the usual stuff for a house of this age in this neighborhood.

The lunch menu is quite limited: a few salads, a customizable burger, a few sammies.

Perhaps following an instinct, but totally against my best judgment, I ordered the Swiss Dip...which was not a request for Dolph Lundgren to make an appearance. (Yes, I know he's Swedish...and damn smart, studied Chemical Engineering at MIT...just a joke folks.)

It followed the usual formula: hero roll, sliced beef, leafy green vegetable. That is where the resemblance ended though...the roll was an excellent piece of bread, crusty, chewy, flavorful; the beef was beefy, chewy, and not at all "webby" or "hammy" in texture like so many of these sandwiches, which are made with cryo-vacced beef that has been brined beyond recognition, honest beef; the greens were fresh and accompanied by carmelized---NOT SAUTEED--shallots, executed very nicely. Truly, the best Swiss(/French) Dip I have had in at least 10 years, possibly ever. On this occasion I was delighted that my judgment was quite wrong, and that I followed my instincts.

My wife had the Chevre Salad with the strawberry vinaigrette. She said it was nice as well, but focused her attention on the other half of my sandwich!

Our waiter, Brent was truly excellent. He was that extremely rare waiter who is working so hard you can see the sweat, but just exudes calm casualty. He has all the time in the world to chat with you...and to talk you into dessert...but the moment your attention moves to talking to your dining partner he seems to dissolve into the background until you need something. It wasn't formal service by any stretch, but the intuition and work ethic were impressive. In fact, we had assumed he was the owner until he said otherwise.

We did manage to not succumb to dessert, though awfully tempted.

There will certainly be return trips to have some dessert, to try the burger, and to check out the dinner menu...hopefully more expansive...but I'll take quality first any time.

I've been here for supper, drinks and lunch, and I always thought it was fine, but not spectacular. Then I came here for brunch. Now I am a definite fan!

After Satellite Coffee closed, we were a little stuck for a reliable delicious brunch place (brunch is my favorite food group), and tried a few places without feeling really attached. When a friend was coming to town, I asked on Twitter for a good SATURDAY brunch spot (Sunday is easier), and The House was recommended to us. Yay!

I made a reservation for five and a baby, but when we all showed up, we had six and the baby (who was in a sizable stroller). They were accommodating to us, and I felt that we were being a little high-maintenance because we took over a table outside that was right by the exit door to the deck, and we were a little in the way of servers going in and out. Everyone was very nice about it, though. It was still cool enough in Arkansas to sit outside, so we all really wanted to.

The menu is pleasantly varied. I had a smoked salmon eggs Benedict that was truly delicious. One of my friends ordered something she often gets, but it came with the chorizo (which she had said she did not want, so she sent it back for changes). Everyone was very pleased with their choices. We also had a variety of coffees and brunch cocktails, as they have mimosas and other juice-champagne combinations (my husband had the cranberry-champagne drink).

The service wasn't super smooth, but as I wrote, we were a little on the annoying side, so I gave them some margin on this. We will definitely be back for more House deliciousness!

Oh, how I love The House. Now, I moved away in December 2010, so I'm writing this review as a nostalgic post-college kid who assumes that little has changed since then.

I now live in Chapel Hill, NC, which is world-renowned for both its food scene and its hipster vibe. Places like The House are seemingly a dime-a-dozen, here, but... how to put this... The House just has this certain 'je ne sais quoi' that many other hipstery gastropubs lack.

The decor is cool, artsy, and unpretentious, without being grimy or cluttered. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly, albeit sometimes a bit slow. I'll forgive them for that, since the food is just oh-so-tasty. For Little Rock, the prices can get a bit steep, but think about what you're getting-- interesting flavor combinations, fresh ingredients, come on folks!

They've also got some interesting brews... for Little Rock.  Arkansas in general is lacking in craft brews (seriously, people... open up some local breweries!), but there have been a few fantastic beers that I've only been able to find at The House.

Give it a try. Think of us poor folks who live 1,000 miles away while you bite into your delicious burger.

Used to be the best burger in the city, but they have slipped.  The patty was smaller, drier, and they charge 50  cents for pickles!  Great beer prices for happy hour though...

Small menu, however most off the things on it are prepared well ( have eaten through about half).  The appetizers are universally great, probably the best part of the meal.

I hate when i have to say....... "well, this place is good for Little Rock"
They have some acceptable beer selections and they have sweet potato waffle fries.  would i eat here if this place wasteleported to San Diego ?  No, but then again there are only one or two places i would continue to visit if this was possible.  The House offers an escape... a safe haven from camoflauge outfits and hunting conversations.  Its a homegrown artsy scene with a youthful, hipster feel.  The House isnt trying to be like anything else in the area and for that simple fact I return.  That and they have sweet potato waffle fries. Tasty tasty sweet potato waffle fries.

This place is sort of a hit-or-miss. It took about a year for the menu to level out and become reliable. It is disappointing that they don't really offer much under $12 anymore and I feel like only a few things are worth that. I love the thai curry, but the price has gone up and I feel like it tastes different every time I order it.

The positive - I highly recommend the fish and chips. Usually the "special" is pretty delicious, too. They do offer up a good beer/wine selection and the back patio is pleasant, especially during the evening.

The waitstaff are always prompt and now they have a liquor license and can serve delicious mixed drinks. I would highly recommend their brunch and have a mimosa as well.

Overall I would say, for the money, I can go elsewhere for dinner and get a better deal, but I find myself here every now and then, especially for brunch or drinks.

My best description would be that this place is hit and miss. I so want to love going here. But I have had several issues. The most annoying is ordering a second beer and being brought something different from what I had before. They aways end up bringing me this really awful highly carbonated beer. I think the name if it is similar to what I originally ordered. But still, wrong beer. And the buns for the burgers are HORRIBLE. Soooo greasy. They used to have better ones, I'm not sure why they changed but they need to change again.

Other than that, I enjoy the atmosphere and over all I do enjoy the taste of the food. Next time I will just have to try something different than the burger/chicken sandwich and just have water lol

The House had 4-stars on Yelp when we ate there in late June and that feels about right to me.  Sounds like the 1-star reviewer had a bad experience, and I'd like to help bring The House's reviews back up.

I can't speak to the prices of "comparable" places in Little Rock, since we were just passing through, but I was impressed with the veggie burger, and after a couple of weeks of traveling through the south, good vegetarian food and a decent selection of locally produced and craft beer was pretty much all I needed to give a 5-star review.

The restaurant has a hipster vibe to it - which I don't mean disparagingly, merely as a description.  I'm not familiar with wait staff introducing themselves where I'm from.  Maybe this is a Little Rock thing?  The place did have a lazy vibe to it, but if the service was slow I would have noticed since I have no patience.

Sounds like the veggie options might be the way to go at The House.

Sorry, The House, I can't help you out.  I want to like you because I like the word "Gastropub," but it's impossible to get past your boring menu, sub-par execution, aloof wait-staff and higher-than-they-should-be prices.

In two trips I was able to sample a fair chunk of their menu.  I came with large groups and tried bites of this and that.

Sweet potato fries - a VERY difficult dish to execute well, and The House exemplifies that with a soggy, underflavored starchy version accompanied by a cloying molasses-like sauce.

Seared ahi tuna appetizer - like cat food.  Gordon Ramsay would have thrown the plate against a wall if he had been served this grey, mealy garbage.  It was topped with some squeeze bottle orange-colored generic aioli sauce.  Inedible.  The entire plate of it sat sadly in the middle of our table the whole meal.

Fish and chips - a friend had these.  Fish was bland and the flesh of the fish itself clearly isn't seasoned individually before they batter it.  The "Diamond Bear Beer" battler might as well have been tap water batter - zero beer flavor at all.

Service: Very weak.  Servers wear whatever clothes they rolled in off the street with.  In two trips neither server told us their names.  We sat on the patio in the far table and were mostly ignored.  There were two tables with people (employees?) sitting at them with no food and no drink - who simply sat and frowned around the outside area.  Maybe the dishwashers get there early to grump up the place.

Either way, I had to drag myself here in the first place because the menu is so damn boring, and once I did, I had a pretty crappy time.  Too bad.

On our road trip we showed up here in that window on Sunday when the kitchen is closed after brunch and not yet open for dinner. Rather than turn us away, they fired up the grill for us and made some of the best vegan veggie burgers ever. Nice atmosphere, great food, clearly great service. Definitely a highlight.

We showed up during their down time in the afternoon. They didn't have to serve us, but they did. The black bean burger was excellent, and I really liked the sweet potato fries.

The atmosphere is laid back, and the server was friendly. If you are looking for a veggie friendly gastro pub in Little Rock, the house is a good option.

First yelp review. Decided to stop at The House while driving through little rock. Despite the fact that I got there at 4 between lunch and dinner hours they still served me food. Sat out on the patio and had the bbq'd rootbeer bear sandwich thing wich was ok. A little to sweet for my taste.

I was lucky enough to run into a celebrity out on the patio. "Connie Hamzy" who gave me a quick rundown on celebrity life. Look her up she's got an interesting story.  My trip to The House was nothing short of an adventure

I'm more of a 3.5 star kind of guy in regards to The House, but since I can't give half stars I'll go with 4.  It's a good laid-back local restaurant.  I really only have one issue that makes me knock it down a star or so.

To begin with, the food has always been really good.  The burgers are prepared from locally sourced cattle, and I believe the restaurant tries to acquire a fair amount of their other ingredients from local growers as well.  The service has generally been very good, though with the locale and the laid back nature of the place it hasn't been ideal at points.  I recently took my fiance to The House for an engagement party; the reservation process and the quality of our waiter were both fantastic.

There is one issue I have though.  Since the place opened, I've been in several times to eat, and I can't think of a single time when the food has been exactly the same.  Each time I go in something is different.  One time it was almost an entirely new menu.  Another time, it was price changes.  A third time, it was the actual food product (a different kind of sweet potato for their sweet potato fries, which by the way are a must try item).  Like I said, the food has always been good, but I would wish for a bit more consistency so that I can generally know what to expect when I go to eat.  Overall, good local restaurant that  definitely deserves a visit.

I suggest the bucket of sweet potato fries as an appetizer; with their curry ketchup, the fries are seriously to die for.  The burgers are all really good, and are made even more so by the fact that they are created from local cattle.  I also recommend the Thai Green Curry Bowl.  If you're used to Asian style noddle bowls, the dish appears a little thin on ingredients at first glance; however, the flavor profile is excellent, and I found the meal to be satiating.

The ever-growing genre of gastropubs has indeed infected me as well. I now look for eateries that offer well-crafted small plates and comfort food alongside a solid beer line up, though I do not always drink with my meals. I am a foodie nonetheless, so alcohol, or not, my dinner must go on, and gastropubs always satisfy my hunger.

As I was Yelping my way through Little Rock, I figured, "This town is certainly not 'hip' enough to have to-die-for restaurants, but it is not Southern enough to have BBQ comparable to my Texas-style smoked meat." I had to settle for something that Yelpers directed me to, and Boulevard Bread and ZaZa both seemed to appeal to me, as I wanted a simple eatery for my one or two meals in LR. The House looked like a great choice for something middle of the line, but unique in its own fashion.

All that rhetoric about my decision to eat here ultimately leads to my experience: the food was solid. I like the atmosphere, too. Very inviting, but not too casual as to not feel like a pub.

The Diamond Bear BBQ pork sandwich was really different. Instead of the expected pulled pork, it came with chunks of flavorful pork and a huge slather of creamy coleslaw. The sweet potato waffle fries are money: crisp and flavorful. Do try the "spicy fry sauce." The curried ketchup is a bit slightly boring.

The potato and thyme soup was alright. Slightly runny and one-dimensional in flavor.

Though the mac n' cheese was not super unique, it was certainly creamy, and that is good enough for me. I am picky, and The House's did not meet my specifications: heartier crust, cheesier taste, and a possible treat such as lobster or bacon. Nonetheless, this was one of the richest mornay sauces I have ever had. The bottom pockets where the cream sinks into was filled with pure artery-clogging goodness.

If you are in Little Rock, The House is a cool little joint for locals and visitors alike. It has a little bit of hipster and a little bit of upscale to it, so it knows how to appeal to everyone. I was happy with this being my only full meal in Arkansas.

I always liked the location and atmosphere of Sufficient Grounds, and now that it is "The House," those attributes still apply.

Tried The House for the first time with my hubby the other night, as we had a 15% off coupon, given to him on his first visit. I tried the turkey burger and he tried the classic burger. Both were large portion sizes, and were made to order. Both were delicious - loved the Boulevard Bread Co. buns and especially the sweet potato fries. I appreciate that they use local products as much as possible.

My only real complaint is the charge for extras, such as pickles or BBQ sauce. Don't get me wrong - I can see paying extra for cheese, egg, or bacon. But pickles?

    NEWS ALERT:

Recent changes to The House menu, disastrous.

The bread that came with the palm dip has been replaced by pita chips.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), recent developments have "cured" my addition to the palm dip.

Still delicious, just bring your own buttered focaccia.

The fiancé and I decided on date night at this joint.  Host was friendly.  We ventured here on a Friday night -7-8:00 pm.  Seated within 10-15 minutes.  The place was crowded but not packed.

Ordered the vegan burger with caramelized onions (50 cents extra) and apple/ pear slaw (1.00 extra) and sweet potato fries with curry ketchup. Fiancé ordered the Ahi tacos.  Two big tacos full of stuff I didn't really pay attention, but the tacos did have fresh avocados that looked riped and yummy.

We each ordered beer from the Craft section- mine was [can't remember the name] apricot beer and fiancé had the mocha porter.  Both great.

Service was friendly and attentive.  Restaurant was clean and aesthetically pleasing.  Price was very fair and portions were plentiful.

We requested the Yelp discount and the waiter did not hesitate to give us the discount.

    Pricey is as Pricey does.

What does pricey mean exactly. Is it worth the price to have a healthy meal? Is it worth the price to find a VEGAN burger in the middle of the Bible belt? Is it worth the price to have damn good customer service? Is it worth the price to have one of the best espressos in the entire City of Lil' Rock?

Ok, sure- this place sure does look like a late night dive in the daytime with its black scary walls and a bit of stick to the floor --not awesome when you are there for lunch. But the espresso was so good I took one to go- and they had so many good indy brews (even a few from Colorado) that you'll forget about that  extra lil stick.

I think LR might be in that awkward stage between small town and bigger town. I was HEART BROKEN to hear that the Satellite closed because people thought it too pricey when its prices were  a bargain compared to what we pay any where in Denver. So it is at The House.

Please don't let another Bigger-town place go Lil Rockers, as I plan to make The House my new home away from home.

We ate here because it was one of the few places with results that came up in Yelp in Little Rock when I searched for "vegan," and it looked like somewhere I'd enjoy.  (One of those other results was by a reviewer who said she was vegan and then talked about usually ordering cheesebread ... Apparently the definition of vegan is not well understood in the state, even among self-proclaimed vegans. So, I suppose I should be all the more grateful for places with vegan options here ... )  I had a veggie burger and added the avocado and some kind of sauteed onions.

I definitely appreciate that they had vegan-labeled items (two, I think -- a Thai curry could be and the veggie burger) and the black bean veggie burger was pretty good. It wasn't fantastic though and was a bit pricey. The portions were large; I couldn't finish my burger though I had the side salad with it. My husband had fish and chips and said they were okay. I don't think he could finish the fries either. The waitstaff was prompt and polite.

I'd expected to like the place a lot better from the reviews. It had some art, photos and the two bikes and some paintings. Despite the art, it didn't have as much character as I'd expected.  I'd expected it to be more like my favorite Busboys and Poets in D.C. But, hey,  we are in Arkansas ...

I was a little disappointed today! Today I went to lunch with some co-workers even though I wasn't hungry. So I asked about a kids menu for a light portion and I decided on 2 chicken strips and their sweet potato fries. Our waiter accidentally brought regular fries and when I brought it to her attention she rolled her eyes at me (I didn't notice it, but everyone else at the table did). My new fries were brought up quickly. The food was great and came out pretty fast. Other times I've been there for lunch it took forever.

I used my 15% Yelp discount and my final bill was about $10.50!!! For 2 chicken strips and fries! I was very shocked and disappointed. The food was good, but no where near that good. There are several other options around town that offer better food, better service and a cheaper price.

To top it off, our sever asked if we were interested in desserts. 2 people tried to order desserts and the waiter came back and told us they were out.  :(

Sad to say, but probably won't go back.

All I can say is that this place rocks.

I have been numerous times and have tried just about everything on the menu.  I highly recommend the Hummus and Taziki Platter with sriracha sauce and marinated green and black olives with toasted bread to dip it in.  I love it.  The Swiss Dip sandwich was perfect.  The sweet potato fries with curry ketchup is divine.  The Cobb Salad is wonderful and packed with bacon, hard cooked eggs etc.

I've had the Continental sandwich and didn't like it.  Nothing wrong with it, just the flavors were wrong for me.

Oh and the Fish and Chips is out of this world.  It's huge too. It would be a great dish to split with someone.

The patio is wonderful as well and it has fans.  A must for the hot, humid summer days here in AR.

    UPDATE:

I went there the other night to try out the new Fall menu.  They have added Beef Burgundy (more about this dish later), pork ternderloin, and macaroni and cheese as well as maintaining some favorites like their fish and chips and the Thai curry.  I ordered the Beef Burgundy and it was horrible.  It was even inedible.  First, it was way too spicy.  Secondly, the pototoes and carrots were undercooked.  There was barely any meat in the dish and the meat that was in it, was tough and fatty.  Gross.  And for all that I paid a whopping $12!  Really?  I was expecting large chunks of beef that had been braised in burgundy wine with roasted carrots, mushrooms and potatoes.  That would have been worth $12 but not what I got.  It was basically bad beef stew.   My bf ordered the waffle sweet potato fries and though normally they are great, they came out limp and cold.

I used to love this place but now, I'm never going back.  It wasn't just this one experience either.  I have noticed that their waitstaff is rude, like Megan mentions below. Also, the quality of the food doesn't warrant the outrageous prices.  I've had numerous mistakes made with my order and then waitstaff just disappears and when pointed out, they act put out to fix it.

I had the brunch there a little while back and it was again a horrible experience.  I had the Eggs Benedict Florentine.  Okay, in order for it to be Eggs Benedict it must have hollandaise sauce and the more the better.  But mine had a couple of drops, I kid you not.  Just a couple of drops on the plate.  The poached egg had a hard yolk.  I have never had Eggs Benedict with a hard yolk.  Ever.  It was overpriced as well.

1st Yelp Review!  Thanks in advance to Yelpers who help a hungry road warrior find fine fare in strange surrounds!

In search of a chill spot to nurse a late night dinner + beer, I was led to a remodeled two-story near downtown Little Rock.  It's called The House.  Expecting a college coffeeshop upon entry, my eyes instead gorged upon the richly dark colored walls, adorned with eclectic paintings,  random art?(bikes with book-filled baskets hanging from the rafters, a tip o' the hatto the nearby university), cleany, comfy couches, and an awesome menu!  Burger with fried egg!  Thai dishes made from local farmer fare!  Vegan dishes, local brewery beers, and flourless chocolate cake.  Topped off with small-town, side street semi-seclusion, and a beautiful back balcony hemmed in by hedges.

The varied clientele ranged from casual drinkers on the porch, dates enjoying a nibble at the smaller tables, and a more studious type tanning themselves via the flicker of laptops in the upstairs amidst the couches and coffee tables.  I really liked how enough separation ensured each crowd their own airspace....or maybe that's because it was a Tuesday night.

Super cool spot for a nibble, a local brew, a coffee, or just to check out a place free of corporate pretensions.  I'll come back when I'm in town fo sho.

During my travels in the month of October we ended up driving through Little Rock on our way to Memphis, TN and had to stop for a bite to eat and for my friend to stop and see old friends from San Francisco.  With me being vegan I searched high and wide for a place that we could stop at. The main problem we encountered was that almost every place in this town was closed due to a loss in a football game (seriously? wow!).  I called 3 places and got the answering machine on all accounts. The only place that seemed to be left was an Italian restaurant called "The Villa". Once we met up with San Francisco friends who are Little Rock natives we were warned that the Italian place was disgusting and they took us here to The House where they assured us their would be vegan friendly food.

Once inside I was shocked to find myself in a hip and local spot with an indie vibe to it. A young crowd full of beards and tattoos. Tons of coffee choices and great local beer (don't remember the name currently). As far as food goes I immediately noticed several veggie sandwiches, one of which was "The Dirty Hippie Vegan Burger". Now I can't quite remember what all was on it but I do remember how good it tasted and based off of the description alone, one of my meat eating road trip buddies decided to get the same.

While we enjoyed our drinks, food and extremely friendly service, we were treated to a live show fronted by a rather attractive acapella female. I wasn't entirely ready to leave the music I was hearing but alas we had to be on the road but before leaving I wrote down the groups name, "Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps". While it has been about a month and a half since being here, I just got around to checking this group out online which inspired me to write this review and ultimately purchase their cd on iTunes.

If I ever roll through Little Rock again I would definitely stop here again for good music, food and conversation. Also, with this probably being one of the only vegan option places in this town I probably don't have a choice.

*vegans beware of dead animal carcass photos in the men's bathroom. But other than that...enjoy!

My favorite place in town to go with friends for dinner and conversation over beers. It's free of the smoke and loud music of Pizza D's/White Water/Fountain.

The food is affordable and yummy, especially the Bacon'Egg'N'Cheese Burger, which will leave you full and happy for nearly a week.

oh, and Stag beers for $1, and a full bar on the way, it seems.

Where do I start? With the local beer selection on tap at noon? Or the healthy in a Pacific Northwest way menu with $7 fare? Or maybe with the local indie rock playing on the soundsystem...or the art, painted walls, and the decor...or the two vintage bicycles that sat on top of the ceiling beams...or the beautiful, wooden jigsaw puzzles waiting to be played with...or the amazing Americano I had for $2! I can't say enough about this place. Being from Portland, I appreciated everything about this place. Kudos to the owners for making it happen. :)
