Overall a nice place. Expensive. You don't get much food. Lots of salt. Large wine list. Only one bathroom stall for the entire house. Staff is polite. Very cold in the winter!

House salad was good. Broiled red trout on ratatouille was merely OK. Dessert of mixed berry bread pudding was delicious. Apple cake was good. Service was excellent. A good meal, but overpriced.

We had a great experience at the house on main last night. Everyone loved their food- shrimp and grits, chicken and dumplings, and flounder. Plus the desserts were fantastic: banana pudding creme brûlée and s'mores cheesecake. The service was attentive and fast. My only complaint was that it was a little over priced. I get the feeling that is true for all of abingdon's good restaurants.

Food and service was good on recent visit.  We arrived early (5:00pm) and had the dining room to ourselves.  They made a special cake for my in-laws anniversary. Very nice. Portion sizes were inconsistent and my "8 oz" filet appeared to be the same size as my in-laws' "4 oz"  filet.  Disappointing but it was of good quality. We will go again.

We have been in Abingdon for several days so we have had the opportunity to dine in many restaurants here as well as a neighboring town,Bristol. I would say that The House On Main has been one of the best restaurants and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to bypass chain restaurants and less pricey establishments! There were two of us and our bill with wine and dessert did not come cheaply but our experience in this charming 'house' was very enjoyable. The only complaint that I had was that the shrimp and grits entrée was very salty. I gave a taste to the person with whom I was dining and he said he would send it back, but I never like to do that, unless the dish is horrid, for obvious reasons.
Ashton was a superb server, and we would love to return when it's nice enough to dine alfresco.

We ate here last Mothers Day. Theyvhad a special brunch with an abreviated menu. They got my wife's order wong (catfish instead of trout).
I also felt there was not good value. They really need to kick itvup a couple of notches if they want to charge these prices.

As you can imagine living in Newport Beach, CA we have loads of "high-end" restaurants.  However, on our visit to the beautiful town of Abingdon, VA we had a lovely dining experience at THE HOUSE ON MAIN.  We found the food to be superb, the presentation beautiful and atmostphere just right for a summer's eve.  We felt honored especially when our chef, Nate, came out to say hello.  May I suggest if you are visiting Abingdon, make a reservation at THE HOUSE ON MAIN and have a wonderful meal.  I assure you that when you walk away, you will have a full tummy and a big smile on your face......and on that plane trip home you will still be thinking of that meal!
