If you love craft beer and live in Lower Bucks County, the Hulmeville Inn is the place to be.
They have an excellent tap list with one offering on the beer engine at all times. Also, they regularly use their Randall to infuse beers with additional flavors. Their food is great bar fare and their wings are very good.
There are many reviews complaining about the smoking, but recently, the owner installed smoke eaters and changed out the standard ceiling fans with the air filter type. So, the smoke issue has been reduced greatly.
For a great place to hang out with some terrific beers, you can't go wrong with the 'Ville!
I had the misfortune of not discovering the Hulmeville until I had been living in the area for at least four years. Oh, the wasted opportunities. Regardless, I try to make it to the Hulmeville at least once a week.
First, the beer: the selection is, without a doubt, one of the best in the area. If you live in the 'burbs and don't want to make the drive into the city to find a decent selection, this is the place for you. There are 19 taps here, including one for casks, that are constantly rotated. Want something brewed locally? The Hulmeville will have you covered. In the mood for a Stout/IPA/Belgium/Imperial something or another? Done. Friends still haven't discovered or learned to appreciate the complexities of craft beer? They serve Miller Light too. CO2 accident took out your arm and now you're scared of taps? As of this review, the Hulmeville has 61 types of bottled and canned beer.
Second, the food: The food can be summed up in a word: Meh. Â I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered here and everything has been fresh and made to order. You have your usual bar food staple of burgers, wraps, sandwiches, cheese steaks, etc. It's decent, if a little boring, but not what I come back for. I do recommend the homemade chili though.
Third, the staff: The staff is great. I hadn't been visiting the Hulmeville for more than a couple of weeks before my usual bartender, Jackie, made me feel like a regular. Our drinks have always been kept refilled, our orders taken promptly and the bill processed quickly when asked. Even when it gets busy I've never felt like I've had to wait long to place or get an order.
While I think the Hulmeville is a five star place, it gets four because they allow smoking. I don't have anything against the bars decision to allow smoking nor do I against those who chose to smoke. It is still annoying though and limits when I can go. So long as you can look past this or are not bothered too greatly by it, the Hulmeville Inn is still a great beer bar.
I would be lying if I said that the location of my current home's proximity to the Hulmeville didn't factor in to my decision to buy it. Easily one of the best bars in Bucks County. If you think Isaac Newtown's is better, that's only because you haven't been to the Hulmeville. The place simply has it all: great selection of craft beer with prices, alcohol percentage and tapping date listed, cheap Lager and Miller Lite pitchers, lots of TVs to watch the game, good music selection, two pools tables, good bar food, darts and friendly bar tenders. The only reason why I'm only giving 4 stars is that they permit smoking, otherwise it's definitely a 5 star bar.
