I have some major pros and major cons  regarding I Street Tavern. Let's start with the cons so that things end on a positive note. The air is terribly smokey and I am a smoker. You WILL leave here smelling worse than a bar or an ashtray and will need to shower immediately upon arriving  home. The decor is pretty bad. I get that they want to support the local town teams but there is a much more stylish way to do that than what they have chosen. To be frank, it looks cheap and tacky. After many attempts at a nice dinner there, it is always mediocre and the salad bar is beyond disgusting. I will admit, I have yet to try their pizza which is, apparently, what they are known for so please keep this in mind when reading this review. Their website needs serious updating as it advertises specials from 3 or 4 holidays ago and are no longer valid.
The upside: The owner Chris is incredibly nice and generous, the people there are always wonderful and having fun with their customers which makes for a great experience if  you just want to go out for a few beers, the jukebox has a respectable selection of music, it's laid out well with regard to the floor plan and the staff is pretty great. Overall, not too impressed but it has its small-town charm.
I've ordered only once and it was only pizza, but that's what I do best , so---Visit their site, looks fun. I was in La Porte overnight for work, and craved pizza, but was wary of the usual chains (Papa John's, Domino's, Pizza hut). Researched the Yellow Pages and came across this place. Serves a whole variety, but what caught my eye was the Chicago Style Deep Dish AND New York Style Thin!! I got the Deep Dish and crossed my fingers. It was quick delivery to the hotel and the pizza was hot. Crust was tasty but seemingly different than regular deep dish dough. Was it because they had the dough in a cold- rise? (Ahh, too technical). Doesn't matter. Good crust. Check.
Now, I can be wrong but it seemed to be dough, my 1st ingredient, cheese, my 2nd ingredient, and more cheese, topped with sauce. I got mushrooms on there and they were amazingly tasty. Doubt they were canned. Pizza not runny at all. Sauce was zesty and garlic-y, with the garlic being more of an immediately smell and a pleasant aftertaste (garlic powder?). My ONLY problem was that the amount could be more. Don't get me wrong, there was enough for normal eating, but I like-a da sauce, so next time I get EXTRA sauce. Which is funny too, because they have 4 different sauces:Basic Red, Bourbon (just a hint in the basic),Barbecue, and White (Alfredo). And the ingredients? Here's a small list from the site:
Â
Pepperoni, Black Olives, Sausage, Prime Rib, Black Olives, Ground Beef, Tomatoes, Portabella Mushrooms, Bacon, Pepperoncinis, Jalapeno, Chicken, Lobster, Horseradish, Saur Kraut, Red Onions, Pineapple, Ham, Green Olives, Red And Green Peppers, Onion Petals, Shrimp, And basically anything you see on our menu, we can put on a pizza!!!
Prime Rib on pizza?!?! Hell yeah!
In a strange way, I can't wait to travel there again(even though it's for work), because their menu is incredible. Nearby? Give it a try.
