Although the food is good, the owner is rude and does not respect customers. We had reservations for five people for 7:30 on a Saturday night in October and were not seated until almost 9:00. My sister in law who was pregnant at the time started to feel ill because of hunger. The hostess and owner kept telling us we would be seated in ten minutes, and 1 hour and a half later we finally sat down. My brother told the owner that not being honest about the wait time was unprofessional, and the owner started arguing with him. He actually never apologized about it. the food was really good, but they were also out of a number of specials because they sat us so late. We were not looking for freebies, but the owner did not comp a single item of the $250 plus bill.
I then decided to bring friends over on a different occasion a few weeks ago. There were four of us with reservations for 8:00 on a Friday night. Once again, the owner and hostess told us we would be seated soon because they were just cleaning our table. Almost thirty minutes later we were still waiting and no table in sight. I called cafe Azurro up the street and they said they could seat us right away. As we walked out, the owner came running and told us he was just waiting for the people sitting at our table to leave since they had already paid the bill. Weren't they just cleaning it?
I recommend this place for the food and their patio dining in the summer. In the colder months, do not bother making a reservation for more than two because the  place inside is tiny and they can't accommodate you. They overbook and are dishonest about the wait time. This is unacceptable. Even though I have been here several times, I do not think I can give them another chance.
Six of us went here tonight for dinner. Â Our 1st time, the other 2 couples had been here multiple times. Â 2 appetizers & 6 main dishes, all different. Â 3 of us had evening's specials (of which there were many), 2 ordered off the menu & 1 made major modifications to a menu item. Â NO COMPLAINTS, everyone complimented their choice, and with some cross-tasting, there were extra compliments. Â Desserts & coffees were also good (we had a selection of each). Â Service attentive, and everything arrived more or less together and hot! Â Only complaint is we felt a little rushed at the end as we had 1 of only 2 round tables for our 6pm res & there was an 8pm res for that table as well. Â For me, the other great thing is it's BYOB, which means I can drink a better wine for the price I'd spend for restaurant wine. Â It's worth the trip! Â BTW, name changes, but your GPS will take you to the right address.
Review Source:Il Mulino is a gem of a restaurant and one of our absolute favorites to return to time and time again. My husband & I are foodies and are willing to travel for a great meal. This restaurant does not disappoint. The owner is hospitable and personally goes over his specials for the day, the staff is attentive but not over the top, and best of all the food is delicious. There is a romantic atmosphere with soft Italian music in the background, and it is dimly lit. I love the fact that when you are seated almost immediately warm, tasty bread is brought out accompanied by marinated zucchini with olive oil and pepper flakes, a generous helping of delicious cheese and thinly sliced genoa salami. The salads are fresh and not overpowered by dressing, the soups are delicate and seasoned just right. Best of all the entrees are always wonderful. Last night I had the seared tuna special which was superb in a mustard sauce with julienne vegetables, sauteed spinach, and sliced sweet potato and red potatoes. My husband had the mushroom risotto and said it was the best he's ever eaten. Don't miss the desserts. They are all out of this world!!!!! This is a 5 star restaurant and I recommend it to anyone who wants a fabulous meal, service and atmosphere to go with it.
Review Source:Went here for dinner last night, and it was really great. They have a new name, Il Monello. We sat outside on the patio, which is lovely. The waiters were very attentive and professional. Right away we were presented with wedges of parmesan cheese, slices of delicious salami, and  nice, spicy zucchini that was great on the crostini bread. The apps we had were very good-buffalo mozzarella atop tomatoes, with roasted peppers, and a nice drizzle of olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar. The mozzarella was excellent; creamy and tangy, large thick oozy chunks atop the ripest tomatoes. The carpaccio appetizer consisted of a generous amount of very tender, thinly sliced beef atop baby arugula, with a nice generous amount of shredded parmesan-yum! The two pastas ordered were fabulous; the lobster ravioli were stuffed with chunks of lobster in a delicious sauce; the bowties with smoked salmon in a creamy tomato sauce was delicious. Both appetizers and entrees were generously sized. The Italian cheesecake was wonderful; it was served very simply with homemade whipped cream on the side. It was a wonderful dining experience; but if you're looking for a restaurant to bring kids, this is not it! Which is just fine with me. This restaurant is much better than Cafe Azzuro down the street, which inexplicably draws large crowds consistently. The food is far superior in my opinion. This is a byob; so when you go, make sure to stop in at Peapack Fine Wines beforehand!
Review Source:We visited Il Mulino on Friday for dinner. Â The Mozzarella di Buffala and shrimp bisque were excellent. Â The mozzarella was thick and creamy. Â The bisque was plentiful and tasty -- the waiter insisted on bringing more bread to sop up the soup and crackers to replace the croutons were improvized from the added bread. Â We had the pasta special and the chicken with asparagus, both of which were very good. Â The hot fudge sunday dessert was good. Â Skip the $5 cappucino which was cold. Â It's BYOB and we brought a bottle of Barolo, which two different servers offered to decant. Â Overall, the menu was interesting, the wait staff tried very hard and the evening was very pleasant.
