Ok, after average to cruddy food in Cortez we have found some foodie places in Durango. The fish and chips portion is huge and I like to eat but this was more than I could handle, giant pieces of cod beer battered and the tartar/dill sauce was great. The fillets were piping hot when they came out crunchy on the outside and flakey moist on the inside. Oh how I wish this place wasn't an hour drive from my place in Cortez, I would eat here twice a week, can't wait to try the Rueben here, it was on the special when we went but we opted for the fish that time.
Review Source:I just rolled in from Arizona and stumbled down to this welcoming establishment to grab a bite to eat. Â Luckily for me they serve a proper guinness pint, but unfortunately for my wife they were out of most of the menu items that interested her when we decided to come inside. Â I had fish and chips which were quite tasty, both the panko breaded piece AND the battered piece. Â She had a panini which wasn't excellent, although you can't blame an Irish pub for mediocre italian. Â I'd eat here again but if she decides to join me I'm sure she will stick to the Irish side of the menu :)
Review Source:OMG!!! This place is the bomb (or an Irish Car Bomb as the case may be)! Â My boyfriend was very excited to go here as he had heard from several others that it was the best Irish Pub they'd been too. Having been to Ireland I have to say that this is the best Irish Pub that I've been to outside of Ireland!!!
The food here is absolutely incredible and their drink selection is amazing. Â Did I say the food was good? Â Okay I'm going to say it again - you have to EAT DINNER HERE!!! Â I had the pot roast and it was definitively the best pot roast I've ever eaten (sorry mom and gram). It was served almost like a stew, over the mashed potatoes and with two of the best onion rings I've had.
My boyfriend had the fish and chips and they were delicious!!! It was the biggest serving of fish and chips I've ever seen. Â In fact, we could have shared either of our meals and still had left overs. Â
For dessert we had the Bailey's Cheesecake and it was amazing.
I can hardly wait for a trip back to Durango just so I can go eat here again. Â I highly recommend that you check this hot spot out!!!
Large breakfast portions, but fritatta was burned and didn't taste all that good.
Irish pub with no corned beef on menu.
Without asking, our server removed the fritatta from the check, which was the right thing.  Unfortunately, the breakfast was ruined as we didn't have time for them to redo the meal.  W have dined there before, and the experience was much better.
The service was excellent and the food was too. Â It felt like an authentic Irish pub back in Ireland. Â The staff was very friendly and helpful. Â We had Shepherd's Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, and the Embassy Burger, and all three dishes were excellent. Â Very tasteful food that was served hot and served within a reasonable amount of time. Â I would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Durango.
Review Source:We visited on a Thursday, when they had $2 tacos. It was so much more than I expected for $2, and a great value. Now, on to the bad news. We sat at the bar and I had to continually interrupt the servers from talking and eating to get a food order, change for a dollar, a new drink and the check. I had a Blue Moon and it was frosty and delicious. After that, I ordered a cocktail made with Absolut Vodka...the amount of vodka in the cocktail was almost nonexistent. Thinking maybe the second one would be better, I tried again. My husband also had a vodka drink (well vodka) that had MAYBE a full ounce (but I doubt it) in it. So, the tacos were a great value and the cocktails were a waste of money.
Review Source:Do you like Blue Moon for $2.50 a pint? I do. Everyday from 4-7, The Irish Embassy has happy hour, which is pretty much any of their 20 or so beers on tap or well drinks.
So now you've got your pint of cold beer and you're hungry. Well, you're in luck, The Embassy has the best fish and chips this side of the atlantic. Real, whole pieces of cod, either beer battered or breaded, or one of both. I recommend malt vinegar on the beer battered and their delicious dill tarter sauce on the breaded.
Don't forget to have the goat cheese baked in marinara served with Pita bread. I don't think I've ever had something so good. I could've eaten two servings.
The calamari was pretty darn good too.
Is it Wednesday and you've got nothing to do? Â Why just head on down and participate in the quiz night! Â MC'd by a local teacher, he will have you and your teammates scrambling for answer to win a bartab (I was always so close but never victorious). Â The waitstaff are great and will happily take your order for food so long as the kitchen is open.
I've had the half order of the fish and chips which is a sad single piece of cod. Â But with the chips and the slaw, I was stuffed. Â I got the beer battered version of the fish because that's seriously how you're supposed to get it. Â The chocolate cake is pretty tasty too if you left room for dessert.
Is it a Friday or Saturday night? Â Well then head downstairs to shake your tail-feather and dance the night away at the dance party going on.
We stopped by here today while exploring Durango. Monday during lunch is not a hustle & bustle time here. We each had the lobster bisque cup of soup ($3.50). It came out piping hot -- perfect as the snow was coming down. It also came with butter and a slice of housemade bread. The soup was creamy, rich and delicious. Next, since we weren't starving we split Monday special of fish and chips. Usual price is $13.00...Monday's special it was only $7.00. The two fillets were dipped in beer batter, came with housemade tarter, coleslaw and chips. Both fish & chips were again piping hot. Â Great ambiance as Irish music played in background, no blaring tv's. Wait staff was very friendly. Lunch at a true pub, and less than $20.00....perfect on our vacation ski adventure!
Review Source:This is one of the bars my friend and I went to on a long night of drinking during our short stay in Durango. Â Immediately upon walking in the place, I liked it. Â It is my kind of atmosphere (warm and inviting, open tables mixed with high backed booths, good music playing). Â I also liked the set up of the place with the staggered floor layout. Â
They have a good selection of beer on tap, which included a hard-cider and that made me happy. Â The bartender at first was not too chatty, but no big deal as it was obvious we weren't locals and it seemed the others around us were. Â She warmed up during our stay and we ended up sharing some talk and laughs.
We did order food, which was not the highlight of our time there. Â We ordered the hummus, which was never served to us and the potato skins which came out very cold in the middle. Â We ordered at about 9:30pm (kitchen on week nights closes at 10) with the bartenders assurance that we wouldn't piss off the cooks and that she was also about to order her dinner. Â By the time the cold skins came out and we realized the hummus wasn't coming, we didn't feel like mentioning anything due to the late hour. Â Had the food been what we wanted, I would have rated this place higher. Â Having said that...if I am ever back in Durango, I would definitely go back to this place.
The food was great (amazing amazing pot roast...) but WORST service I've ever seen. Super slow to place orders (had to beg for waters), mixed up food orders, and never cleared plates or brought check until we stalked waitress. I can't overstate how bad service was. Cute spot but need a whole new wait staff who actually give a damn.
Review Source:The restaurant was busy and the hostess took our name but also suggested we check downstairs to see if there was a table in the downstairs bar. Instead  of eating in the upper area, we sat at a comfortable couch around a great cocktail table and ordered there. The hostess did come down to check on us to make sure we were comfortable and wanted to stay there. The bartender welcomed us there for dinner. We ate and watched the all star game. It was perfect seating for us. We ordered Shepherd's Pie,  Brat and mashed pots, chicken pot pie and enjoyed drinks from our attentive and friendly bartender.  We really enjoyed our dinner and evening here.
Review Source:Lunch with a large family group and they were accomodating on a holiday weekend. The wait staff was attentive and the food was great. IOrdered the Fish & Chips, Burgers, and was surprised when even the Fish Tacos were great! Can't go wrong with the atmosphere -- authentic feel when compared to some favored Irish pubs in NY & Chicago. We will eat and drink here again when in Durango. They should expand to other cities....they have something good and timeless.
Review Source:Loved this little place! Â
The atmosphere is classic Irish Pub, which for me, is immediately likable. Â
I tried the Bangers and Mash while my friend had the Shepards Pie. Â I wish I could have finished more of my meal... it was amazingly good and tons of it! Â The sausage was incredible!!! Â
Service was very friendly and attentive...
The Irish Embassy is typical for the pub genre: rustic, a bit dark and musty, and with a great selection of beers on tap. Â But we came for their specialty: fish and chips. Â We sampled both the breaded and the beer-battered options. Â Both were quite lovely. Â The service was competent and friendly. Â We escaped some of the pub dreariness by sitting on the upper level near some large windows. Â During dinner, the kiddos loved watching the city life on Main Street below.
Review Source:We stayed in Durango the week of the 18th and visited the Irish Embassy on our first night. Â This pub was very authentic with one exception. Â Real Irish pubs food really sucks. Â Their burgers and fish and chips had my kids and I craving it throughout our stay. Â They also poured a very good pint the first time but the 2nd and 3rd felt rushed and still had tan bubbles. Â Take your time pouring! Â Excellent place for food or Guinness. Â Top Notch service and great atmosphere.
Review Source:Now, this is one likable Irish pub. Friendly, polite staff, excellent beer selection, good food and authentic atmosphere. Vintage Irish photographs on walls, wood and brass decor, plenty of seating space - all is very welcoming and inviting.
Add weekly quiz, a loungy space downstairs, cute waitresses, the Tuesday pint night, Â and you might just get one of the best Irish pubs not just in Colorado - in the whole country.
Well done, Irish Embassy.
