I was in town for business and visited this place twice with my co-workers for dinner and to watch the Stanley Cup. They have an excellent beer selection on tap, and the staff was very friendly. There are loads of televisions to watch the games. The food was good, though there were very limited options if you're a vegetarian. The 2nd time I was there a band was playing. I'm not usually a fan of listening to music in bars, but this was a great bluegrass type of band. Well done on booking these guys. Overall it's an inviting and comfortable place. If I lived near there it would be my local.
Review Source:I have been going to The Rover for many years, almost since it first opened. Â Nice pub atmosphere, neighborhood feel with plenty of "regulars". Great, friendly bar and wait staff. Â They always have your glass refilled before you even ask them. Â Food is pretty good. Â Great price on beer! Â Plenty of TV's for sports watching. Â I always look forward to spending some time there! Highly recommend.
Review Source:I came here for a going away party; we had a group of 20-25 people. There was plenty of space to sit and mingle and also enjoy our food. They had a live band the night we went and it was a bit too loud for everyone. No one could hear anyone talk and it was also hard for our waitress to understand our orders. We only had one waitress between our group which is why everything took so long to come out. I ended up getting the Rover Nachos (see pictures). It is individual tortilla chips covered with re-fried beans, mixed cheeses and your choice of fajita beef or chicken, served with sour cream, jalapenos and salsa and you can add guacamole for an up charge. The nachos were very good, I got them with the chicken; also the non alcoholic lemonade is also very good. I would like to come back soon and try a few more items on the menu when they don't have the band playing.
Review Source:What a fun casual bar in Frisco. Â I've been here a few times. Â The band that played on friday night was really good. Â This bar is really big. Â They serve food here but I haven't checked out the menu yet. Â Parking lot was packed but we were lucky to find a parking. Â Fun place on a Friday night.
Review Source:This is a pretty cool bar in Frisco that plays live music on Saturday nights. Â The band was pretty good. Â This place is pretty big for a bar, and there is a dance floor if you feel the urge to bust a move. Â The drinks were relatively priced, and service was pretty good here. Â The bartenders are quick with service, and you don't have to flag them down to get service. Â I haven't tried to food, but it's pretty much bar food that everyone enjoys after a few drinks. Â Come check this place out if you're in the Frisco area.
Review Source:Came here for a work happy hour. Â The parking lot suggested this place was packed but there was plenty of seating in the dark and kind of dull sports bar. Â Ridden with children and large parties and spotty service. Â Not saying I wouldn't go back but it's not going to be my first choice.
Review Source:Absolutely terrible! Went on friday night for fish and chips as we have several times, but this evening the following results; the appetizers (rover nuts undercooked) the fish underdone ,fries half cooked (crunchy)and salad that had been sitting out as it was wilted to say the least. The service was adequate and told the server to tell the manager it was substandard, of course the manager did not come out to ask us about the food. We have frequent the pub several times with the change of management expecting it to get better , but as expected to no avail. I will never go back ever again, and should one want to throw their money away this place will gladly take it from you without any hesitation. This was another dissapointment to a place that could be awesome.
Review Source:My husband and I eat here a few times a year. It is a great place to go for a wide variety of menu items in a relaxed atmosphere. Â We have tried quite a few things on their menu, and it has always been consistently good food except for the burger I had a few years ago. It was pretty dry, so I haven't ordered the burger since because there are too many other great selections. Â Recommended are the Rusty Nuts, Chicken Chucunda, Chicken Carbonara, Fish & Chips, and the Philly Wrap. Â Service can be a little inconsistent.
Review Source:It's a low key place, almost like a dive bar. Â Their menu is surprisingly diverse; my friend and I are working on getting through all of the sandwiches. Â They also have a great beer selection, poker nights, and amazing fried pickles. Â If you're looking for a casual, low key place, effortless place, this is perfect for you. Â The menu has plenty of food to please almost anyone and their prices are reasonable. Â They have a great happy hour as well. Â Bar does close around midnight, so keep that in mind if you are going for drinks.
Review Source:Can really only speak about the food we had. Ate there last week with the wife. I had a Philly cheese that was actually quite nice. Don't remember what she had but she liked it. This was after the lunch rush so the place was relatively quiet and the staff that was there was busy doing the things they have to do post rush and get ready for the evening, but we didn't have to wait any exceptionally long time. We weren't bothered by it anyway.
Great selection of beers. Looking forward to our next visit, hopefully a little later in the evening though so I won't feel so bad trying a few of the different drafts.
*Pros: Cheap beer, ambiance, service, Rover's nuts
* Cons: It's a little pricey; average fish and chips
"Wow, I just love Rover's nuts"
This is the only time I would allow a date to speak complimentary of what sounds like another man's genitalia. Â But more on that in a minute...
This is just one of the many overflow joints on Gaylord over by Stonebriar mall. Â One of those places you can be seated fairly quickly and get a buzz and a full belly.
The sign in the front announced $2 pints, which included Shiner and Ziggenbock on a Saturday.
The menu was Bennigan's-esque
We started with beers, and moved on to appetizers selecting Rover's Nuts, which were essentially stuffed mashed potatoes (cheese and peppers) lightly fried and served in a basket. Â Yes, I do dig Rover's Nuts.
We weren't extremely hunger, so we bypassed the fat burger and pasta selections and opted to share a large order of fish and chips. Â We each got one filet and a smidge of fries. Â They were fairly generic, so I was thankful that I didn't have to ask for the vinegar conveniently located on the table.
After two beers, the nutsack, and a shared entree the meal came out to $30 and change.
I've had better.
But I give them points for being a cheap beer oasis in the midst of retail commerce.
Salud!
Read the other reviews and discern who's a regular and who's a new customer. The regulars who hang out at Irish Rover "love it" and anyone else looking for a clean establishment with decent food or any semblance of service rate this dive a one star and never come back. If McDonald's is your idea of a quality hamburger then Irish Rover will probably satisfy you as an Irish bar. At least McDonalds is cleaner. Avoid.
Review Source:I have been to the Rover twice and both times had an experience that was lacking service and I was overcharged... First time I went I had the beer of the month and ordered their Queso and Chips. The place wasn't busy it was a week night. I was overcharged for the beer which was suppose to be $2, I was charged $3 when the bar tender took my money he pocketed $2 of it and put $1 in the til. Next I had the Queso and Chips which were good, I waited about 20 minutes for the food then when I asked about it I was told the kitchen was closed. 5 minutes later the bartender I placed the order with showed up with the chips. The queso was good but not worth waiting 30 minutes for it good. The second time I went only because they had $1 beer night which is worth it to me. I again ordered the Queso and Chips - trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because they really are so close to my home. Trying to get the attention of a bartender is almost laughable - I did order the Chips & Queso again and it took 20 minutes for them to get the food to me, it arrived lukewarm so I know it had been sitting a while. I had asked for extra chips which I was told were free. The bartender returned with extra queso & chips which he told me were free. Nope, when I looked at my bill they had charged me for it. I brought it to the attention of the bartender even writing on the receipt so I know he could see it. I saw him read it at the register but then he still charged me the same amount. When I he handed me the bill I called for his attention he walked off quickly and didn't come back. Also the other staff at the bar had walked off to. I waited for about 15 minutes, and just wrote it off. I had a few beers at this point and didn't want to mess with it. Honestly the $1 beer night is a good deal but in my opinion isn't worth being overcharged and treated poorly for. There is far too much competition in this area that has superior food, service and THEY don't over charge you. I cannot recommend this place but if you do happen to go - only get the beer; the food in my opinion is over priced for what you get and clearly they really aren't concerned about getting it to you in a timely manner.
Review Source:I will NEVER go back to this place again! Other than the mediocre food, horrible & slow service, The 'entertainment' is awful.
Last night, the band sang a song called 'Wigger' where the lead singer took tons of pride singing how no white mother wants their white kid to act/look/etc. like a N*gg*r. When I showed my shock and disgust, he shouted into the microphone, "yeah I said it. It's how I roll." He then took a break, telling the audience he needed to have a talk with certain people in the audience about how he likes the word Wigger and how he'll say it anywhere, anytime he likes.
If you're cool with blatant, dated, ignorant racism, this is the place for you.
If you choose not to fund an establishment that pays people to sing about the fun & pride of being a racist, boycott the Irish Rover in Frisco. I am, as is the group I was with and a handful of others who were as disgusted last night as me.
The food at this bar is legendary. I have been to this place many many times with my wife and we haven't had a mediocre dish there yet. Being Irish this place gets my Irish food stamp of approval. The service is excellent and the owner is very friendly. Great choice for lunch or dinner.
Review Source:Nice location, for Frisco. Â If you live close by - it is perfect. Â I have been a few times for happy hour, and it is alright. Â Nothing bad, nothing spectacular - the cheaper wells drinks were good. Â The food was ok- I had the tater skins, and it was REALLY greasy, which I thought was a little odd. Â But it absorbed the vodka ok, so I cannot complain! Â Great place for large groups, the perfect place to sit is over to the left near the patio - I bet it would be so nice as the weather gets cooler!
Review Source:So My Apartments I live in are like 40 steps away from Irish Rover. So you could say it's my goto bar for a quick bite to eat or drink. Place has a decent selection of beer. I just wish it could rotate out some more and bring in more seasonal selections.
The food is pretty tasty here as well. The Steak Pie is tasty!! Sometimes the bar can get out off hand and too much for the staff to handle and it can be troublesome getting some service. Be sure to carry your flare gun with ya :)
Everything was good until I told the waitress that I was using a Groupon deal. She immediately turned from friendly to short and irritated. It's a shame, too, because I otherwise had a great opinion.
We went for the fish and chips, which were cited as a particular special. The fries were delicious, while the fish seemed a bit overcooked. It's not the best or worst I've had: right in the middle.
The greatest shame of all is that I can't drink and they have over 30 varieties of beer on tap. A tragedy.
Atmoshpere:
Pub with decent food and reasonable service...Open late-good patio.
Food:
Bangers and Mash- Sausage is really good! great taste with gravy.
Corned Beef and Cabbage- Corned beef is okay...I'd order something else next time.
Rover Balls: AMAZING!!!! ORDER THESE!!!! Mashed potatoes, bacon, jalepenos, and cheese rolled into perfect spheres, rolled in bread crumbs and fried.
Service:
Good waitresses, fast service, rapid drink orders.
Frisco...the new epicenter of soccer moms, cougars, and families in the Dallas area. The heart of Frisco lies in the Stonebriar Mall area, which set off the Frisco boom. Severely lacking in Frisco is anywhere halfway decent to go to for a beer, other than Down Under and a few new bars that have popped up here and there.
Irish Rover has been open and around for a few years. It reminds me of a Bennigans...the same overall feel. Unfortunately, I'm not all that impressed with it. It's fairly generic - your typical wooden tables and seats. The bar area is a little uninspiring - save for a few tv's, a few arcade games, it's rather ordinary.
The Irish Rover's saving grace is that iIt boasts a fairly decent beer selection - better than your average bar. The last time I went, it boasted happy hour all day Saturday. That's unheard of for a Saturday. Granted, it's probably out of necessity - it's never been very busy on a Saturday night - actually quite quiet. Makes for a cheap night and a good buzz, but not a lot of people watching.
Their food isn't bad for bar food - have had several menu items and haven't been blown away by it, but also not disappointed.
Not a bad joint, but not the best either.
Although pricey, this locale is rather a gem in the middle of suburban purgatory. I have never tried the food but it does not look too appetizing. The staff is nice and they have an excellent electronic jukebox where you can find just about any band. I often enjoy the looks on suburbanites faces when i play a set of 10-20 punk and indie tunes on the thing. Viva la revolucion!
Review Source:Due to high demand I offer this review.  As always I sought out meat and cheese. The philly cheese steak sandwhich was filled with tender succulent meat, mushrooms, and jalapeños in a soft roll.  I 86'd the onions.  It was excellent.  My father, sister and I did a trip around the world of beer, all on tap.  All beers were cold and delicious.  Our waitress was kind, considerate and cute.  As a 1/4 Irishman, I give the meal two green thumbs up.
Review Source:been coming here since they first opened...back when it was owned by a Brit nicknamed "Blue". before i put my $.02 in i gotta address some issues with a few reviews on here.
1. the servings here are hardly "paltry". i'm 5'11" @ 190 lbs and i know my way around huge portions. my waistline is living proof of that. (disclaimer: of course this is just my opinion)
2. not sure how one of the reviewers ended up with a $30 check on their lunch prices where the dishes are $7 a pop. (you can actually check their prices online to verify)
3. a small "pint" glass? a pint is a pint. unless it's one of those fancy goblets that Belgian ales sometimes get served in, the beers have always been poured in a regular old pint glass. (last i checked, the volumetric dimensions of a pint has not changed)
on to my review...
it says Irish but it has a lot of English and Indian food thrown in there for good measure. not sure if it's what Sherlock Holmes eats over in London but there's a good amount of expats that hang around there so i figure it can't be that bad.
my all time fav is their carbonara pasta. i've tried most of the items on the menu and they are all pretty good. the item(s) i dislike the most are the wraps. the fillings in and of itself are excellent but like another reviewer mentioned, the tortillas really could stand to be softer. it's probably your typical store-bought fan fare. i do wish they could come up with a monte cristo recipe.
the beer selection is great. a wide range of Belgian wheat beers, a solid showing from German breweries and some English ales in there as well. ordering a Bud/Coors/Miller is a waste of money here. from time to time they do run out of some selections during the summer...not sure why they can't just run out buy another keg.
the place is quite dog friendly as well. i bring my border collie up there when the weather is nice. the wait staff always makes sure she has enough water. speaking of the wait staff, i've always found them friendly and courteous. i don't know if it's cause i have a dog or look like Brad Pitt but i've never had a problem.
all in all i'd say it's not a bad pub. one of the few places not in Dallas or Addison that has sound beer list. yeah it's not very Irish, but then again it's in Frisco next to a mall. the whole Irish motif didn't work out so well for Bennigan's.
I have been coming to the Rover for a VERY long time. I call it my "Cheers". I know basically everyone that works there, so i never have a problem getting great service. If you go regularly, they'll get to know you as well.
First off the food is great. Can be kind of expensive, but the cheesesteak wrap/pita/hoagie is fantastic. Great fries (regular and sweet potato). The menu is very eclectic, including standard bar fare all the way to a more exotic dish like chicken tikka. The Rover's nuts (deep fried mashed potato balls are amazing).
The Rover does not have very good drink specials tbh, unless you like to go out and drink PBR (Pabst). A Shiner draft goes for about $3.50, which isn't terrible, but it's not great either. They do have a great selection though.
I typically use this place as jumping off point to meet friends for dinner or a beer and then we'll head elsewhere on a weekend. Some of my friends aren't the biggest fan of this place, but I probably like it because it's familiar.
This is a review of the Restaraunt only. I went during lunch and won't be back. The place is okay, it sort of looks like an Irish pub but it's old and dirty. I went to the restroom and there was an inch of dust on ledges in there as well as scratches and exposed wood not repaired.
The service was below average. I had a diet coke and only at the end of my meal was a refill offered as that was the only time the waitress came by after dropping off the food. Â And when the waitress asked how was the food my date who had a wrap sandwich said the tortilla was rock hard the waitress merely said "oh" and left. Â It's obvious she didn't really care. She should at least said I'm sorry. Nope. She just walked away.
As for the food. I ordered the fish and chips offthe luch menu and got one piece of fish and a handful of fries. The fish was average and had no taste. The tarter sauce on the side was mostly mayo. My date, as mentioned had a chicken salad wrap and the tortilla was so hard you could not bite it or tear off a piece. It appeared to be grilled too (weird as the the chicken salad was a cold sandwich and no where was it mentioned this was a grilled sandwich). Â On a brighter note the sweet potato fries were good.
Lastly this place was overpriced for what you get. We spent $30 there and got one sandwich, one piece of fish, two sodas and some fries. What a ripoff.
If you are looking for a "Cheers" type of atmosphere,The Rover is for you. Pretty laid back, eclectic menu, great happy hour...even from open till 7 on the weekends. Tons of good beers. If you're hungry I suggest the Philly Hoagie or the chicken fried steak. For Irish fare, go with the Haddock and Chips over the cod, and def try the Shepards Pie...yummy.
Plus they have a lot of tvs, even on the patio. Pool tables, NTN trivia, and touch screen games.
So didn't really feel like driving too far.  We ended up on the Irish Rover's patio. Had some appetizers  and they were ok.  This is a good place to chill and drink some beer if you are in Frisco. Nothing too special though. Although I will say the service kicked ASS!!!  The waitresses rocked!!!
Review Source:We went for Father's Day. I think it was ok. The beer was wonderful. Of course, on a scathing hot day - any beer is wonderful. I like the atmosphere here...many TV's on various sports stations. It definitely had a 'pub' style feel to it.
The food - meh, it's okay. I ordered fried pickles...yeah, they were awesome. The perfect appetizer with beer. They were fried better here than most places because they fry them by the slice - not the spear. That gave them the 3rd star. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich - I've had better. The bun was crummy - literally. It fell apart. My boyfriend had the sheppard's pie - that was pretty awesome. Their menu is kinda all over the place - so I wouldn't expect much.
Our waitress was new - and she was definitely overwhelmed. It showed. She was working about 7 tables and a party on the patio. The service was initially good - then slowly started to suck. Again, that's where the 3rd star - stayed a 3rd star.
If you're in the area, I'd say give it a shot - just don't expect too much.
I went in for a pint and was served Guinness in a small "pint" glass. Â Have not been back since. Â You pull up to the place and it is at the end of a strip center & after you walk in, it does not get any better. Â There is a much better Irish Bar in Frisco if that is what you are looking for.
Review Source:This is a pretty good place to play pool. Â It has 2 coin-operated pool tables. Â Â Not too many players, however. Â

The "Rover" is a decent little pub north of Stonebriar Mall. Â Before they banned smoking I would only go there at lunch or before tons of smokers filled the joint. Â But, now since you cant smoke indoors anymore, it is decent place to go at night.
Good selection on tap and bottles. Â Food is okay (favorite is their burger -- it's quite big).
Give it a shot if you in the area.
Initial thoughts from my only visit to the Irish Rover:
This place didn't quite have the whole Irish pub feel to it. Â Instead, it kind of had the ambiance of a generic bar. Â They did serve up a well poured Black and Tan though.
The assortment of their Nuts (yes, we chose to taste all of their nuts) varied from "quite good" to "not-worth-the-calories". Â Oh, in case you're curious, their Nuts are their own spin on the classics such as fried mozzerella and such.
I was a bit disappointed with the fish and chips, and I feel that if an Irish pub should be able to do one thing right (beyond serve up proper beer, which they can do) is make fish and chips. Â The chips were fine, but the fish had a slightly off taste. Â Not in a "I think I'm going to end up in the hospital" taste, but just a "Hmmm, I don't think they did this right" taste. Â I can't quite place what, exactly, but it just wasn't right, even with a liberal dose of malt vinegar.
Now, keeping in mind that this is located withing the Land of No Bars and Inane Alcohol Laws (at least that's what my wife and I, both from Las Vegas, call this area known as Collin County) I can see myself back at this place, expecially on our way to watch the RoughRiders play.
