Went with my family on a Sunday night.  Was not that crowded.  Service was excellent.  We have wings and mussels for an appetizer and both were excellent.
for dinner we had Salmon, a burger, Braised short rib and a salad.  All were excellent! We will be back.

Came here for amateur stand up comedy night because a friend was performing. The place got packed quickly and it was obvious that the staff was not prepared for that much traffic. I ended up walking to the bar for menus and to order my food. No utensils, the bartender had to apologize and give them to me. Food ordered were just appetizers so no biggie to compare it, hard to screw up. Giving it 3 stars based that I had a great time with the comedy acts. It was different and a good turn out for a Wednesday night.

Went here one night after they had been open for a few months. I was trying to figure out what they were going for as far as ambiance. It felt like a hybrid b/w a diner and a restaurant. The crowd was mainly older guests and a family or two - I was expecting a younger professional crowd, similar to places in Rockville Centre. The Food: good, the menu offered a lot of unexciting options but there was 1 or 2 interesting dishes and the special that day. I went for the special (seared tuna salad) and it was well prepared but outside of that I'm not sure I would have ordered anything else. It feels like this place can prepare a really solid dish but hold the menu back because their clientele wants paninis, burgers, fries, etc. On the positive side, this place offers a few craft brews on tap that you can't really get anywhere in Lynbrook.  If I go back, its probably for the beer. No complaints on the food or service though, just wish the menu was more exciting or unique.

Ate dinner at Angelinas last Thursday.  The place was mobbed with a short wait for a table.  Past by J Mags after dinner at 7:30pm and the place was empty.  I mean noone.

I have no idea how this place stays open.  The food is terrible and the drinks watered down.  Must be a loss leader for some more profitable operation.  Or maybe, just maybe, places like Angelinas and McQuades pay to have it stay open so that their food and drink look outstanding by comparison.

    I think too much!!

I'd been here once before, and although I remembered not being that impressed by the food, my boyfriend and I went back to give it a second chance.

Well, it was given a second chance by us and we STILL weren't that impressed so I don't think we'll be back. My boyfriend tried the cuban, which he said was far too sweet, and I tried the baked mac and cheese, as well as a bowl of chicken noodle soup.

Well, the fact is that the food there just isn't that great. The mac and cheese was bland, I found myself wishing it had some onion, tomato, or some basil in it. The chicken soup could have used some extra salt.

The service isn't bad, but there is a reason that the place is pretty much empty on a Saturday night, when most of the other restaurants around are packed. It's the food. It's not terrible, not great, just bland.

While the decor is very nice, nothing else about this place stands out, especially not the food.

I don't know what happened since the last time I came here. Just got back from lunch with a few co-workers. Besides us there was two other tables with two people at each there. It took 45-50 mins to receive our lunch specials. One of my co-workers food didnt even come out for another 15 mins on top of the 45 we originally waited!! I had to go to the bar to ask for someone to come and give us re-fills. My lunch was pretty bland. I def wont be coming back here. The manager /waiter was not really paying us any mind, which was surprising since the place was dead. This is from a review I finished writing 2 months ago.

Came here around 8 on a Saturday night expecting it to be busy. There was no wait, in fact, there were only about 4 other tables of people in the entire restaurant. This should have been a red flag to us, considering most restaurants in the nearby area would be packed at this time.

The menu seemed limited as far as anything healthy. I ordered a panko crusted chicken dish with mesclun greens. The dish also came with a side of the same greens that the chicken was completely covered with, and I was told that the dressing was mixed in and it couldn't be on the side. Needless to say, the salad was way overdressed and wilted and the panko crusted chicken tasted like fast food frozen chicken patties.

The waitress was friendly, but overall my experience here was disappointing, especially for the high price.

Also, this place didn't have much of a "downtown grill" feel. In fact as we ate our meal, the music they were playing was an odd mix of Britney Spears and Nirvana.

No recent reviews.  Why is that you ask.

    Because noone goes there anymore.

Really enjoyed the price fix menu.  The mussels were delicious and plentiful. The tilapia was outstanding.  And who knew an ice cream sandwich could be gourmet?  Drinks were reasonably priced and the service was pleasant and well done.

Horrible restaurant. Burgers are rubbery, crab cake is nasty. The only good thing is the soda.

well executed dishes, good price, simple menu,  wish there were some pie's or cupcakes on the desert menu.

    will definitely try again

Those of us blessed with pallets that can detect good from evil have already discovered that this place is AWSOME! My wife and i have been to this restaurant every weekend for the past two months in hopes to successfully try everything on the menu. I have not had a meal there i have not liked yet. Anything you try will blow your mind. Chef Danny is so on top of the kitchen it is such a joy to eat here.

Seriously if you think I'm not being truthfull, order a buffalo chicken wrap from the next random restaurant you go to, then go to J Mag's and experience what it is supposed to taste like. Do the same fore the burger, the short ribs, the french fries etc.

And another thing, their bar understands the difference in glassware, not many bars these days do. Its refreshing to see this kind of detail.

Same owner as Angelina's just next door.  I don't know his first name but he is always around at either of the two restaurants. Nice guy too and he did well with this place. I will Definitly come back.

Sunday afternoon date with the hubs and it was pretty dead.  No kids.  Peace and quiet.  PRICELESS.

Our waitress was a sweetheart.  All the food we ordered was fantastic and reasonably priced.   I ordered the mahi mahi and my husband ordered jambalaya.  Some spicy dishes, but both ridiculously tasty and exceeded our expectations.

Mussels appetizer was on point.  Refreshing mojito served in a mason jar mmmmm.  We were surprised to see the owner of Angelina's in there - as we got to speaking to him, it turns out he owns both restaurants.  That info came as a relief to us being that Angelina's is our favorite Italian/pizza spot in town, so we knew everything would be quality.

The owner and staff were standing outside the store handing out 20% off cards during the craft fair, so we took one and gave it a shot.  Also, check your local coupon express booklet for a 20% off coupon and get your butt down here!  Very different and eclectic menu.  I was sad to see the Broadway Beanery go, but this is a great replacement, that's for damn sure.

There are a lot of places around the Lynbrook area that open and close within a small amount of time; I don't think they take the time to know their customers like they should. J Mags Knows their customers. They've known them for the longest time thanks to their know how and dedication. When you bite into their burgers or skirt steak wraps for the first time you realize that this is a different place. Sure a burger is just a burger but the flavors that pour out of a J Mags burger are just amazing. Their entrees are next to none, the fish is fresh and their meats are perfect. I think that their sister restaurants Angelinas and Marsala prove that perfection can give birth to new innovations. Also, don't forget the drinks! Get a little happy on their libations that are not watered down. Try a Delirium... Look for the little pink elephant and be surprised. Finally, the staff and management will bring you back for more. Kind, courteous and understanding to your needs. If you're not satisfied you will be.

First there was no parking. Inside ok clean but nothing special no wait for a table. Waitress was chunky with short blond and pink hair can't remember her name if she even gave if to us. Bar drinks took forever 15 minutes for a couple beers and a rum and coke. Waitress forgot waters paid no attention to empty drinks and didn't bring the extra silverware set after the food had come out. Food was good not great nothing out of the ordinary I had seared tuna it was fine. Probably will never return food was ok but the drinks and service were not

We tried out j Mags Downtown Grill for the first time tonight. We were greeted by a friendly staff, and seated fairly quickly. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive never felt like we were wanting for anything. I had the French Onion soup and my wife the Maryland Crab Cake. Both were excellent.  For dinner , my very picky 12 year old thoroughly enjoyed the baked Mac and Cheese, I had the Cuban Panini ( which by the way, I had trouble finishing,) and the wife had the Asian Marinated Skirt Steak. We all left talking about how much we enjoyed our meals, and when we'd be coming back again. About the closest thing I have to a complaint is that the prices were a little bit high, but I can happily say that we got what we paid for!!!

Came here for my aunts birthday and the food was really good. We got quesadillas which had this chipotle mayo sauce thing with it which as awesome and pork and shrimp pot stickers which were also good. For dinner I had a filet mignon which was med well when i asked med rare but it was still delicious with cabernet sauce and mashed. The service was good overall a nice experience and it wasn't too expensive I'll definetely go back.

What a gem of a find. Probably one of the best restaurants on Long Island. Very glad we do not have to go into the city to find great food.
We asked the chef to just bring us what he likes. Well, we had the crab cake appetizer that was prepared and seasoned perfectly. The tuna tar tar over avocado was delicious, but the calamari salad with an asian flare was off the charts!

For the main course chef Danny prepared a Mahi Mahi with Lemmon grass, shallots, and ginger. Infused with coconut milk and other nuances that brought the dish to a higher level. My wife had the short ribs that literally fell off the bone.

How we had room for dessert is beyond me. Chef Danny sent out Cream Brûlée that was kicked up several notches than your typical Cream Brûlée. He uses Godiva white chocolate liquor which gave it a great taste. The chocolate cake when cut, oozes chocolate deliciousness.

Need I say more. Great food, great prices and worth checking out!

When you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted with an elegant, but casual atmosphere.  The staff is friendly and helpful.  I went there on a Wednesday night, and it happened to be Wine Down Wednesdays, where you can get a bottle of wine for $10!!!!!!!  The food was absolutely amazing, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed my night! This is definitely my new favorite place!

I recently went to J Mag's Downtown Grill & Bar to try out a new place and I must say the place inside is really nice....but the food....it's really awful and WAY OVERPRICED. I ordered a Black Angus Sirloin Burger with mozzarella cheese, sauteed mushrooms fried onions (it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, french fries, and cold slaw and I took it to go. After waiting for 30 minutes (yes you heard me) the amount came to around $12 dollars. Let me just say if you went to a diner or any other pub place for a burger, it is less than $12 dollars. I went home to take out my meal and let me break it down for exactly what to expect. The amount of cold slaw I have received was the most pathetic amount I have ever seen. To give you an idea of the amount, its like they took 1 or 2 teaspoons of cold slaw and put it in a tiny container...yes...that is really really sad. The fries were very bland, not crisp, and not even warm. The Black Angus Sirloin Burger....this is what made me officially want this place to shut down ASAP. For starters, the burger did not feel like it was cooked properly. The mozzarella cheese did not even look like mozzarella cheese. It basically looked like Elmer's glue or a better picture...white paste. The sauteed Mushroom Fried Onions....cold and where is the flavor? Sauteed?! REALLY?! FAIL! This has to be one of the worst burgers I've ever had in so many years. If you want better burgers or better food in general... go somewhere else. This place is just telling me it will not last very long. You might as well go to McQuades than this place. Someone better tell the owner to stop being greedy and change the menu and pricing. This place is not going to last very long. Here is some advice to the owner of the place, go OBSERVE other food places and understand your customers! I was so close to go back there and yell at these people. I never would do that to any restaurant....but this place almost made me go that far to do it. I DO NOT recommend to go there at all. This place needs A LOT of work to do. I hope this review helped out for anyone that was interested of going to this place.
