Tastee Express is a trailer set up outside of Home Depot that serves what typical carts in the city sell, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, gyros, cheesesteaks, lamb/chicken platters, and a few things that you don't usually find such as mozzarella sticks and knishes. Â It seems that there are 4 locations now, all on long island. Â Since i love street meat, and you don't really see carts on long island, i was very intrigued. Â My dad shops at this home depot location often and actually stopped at the stand for breakfast once. Â He said his bacon, egg, and cheese was really good, and pretty cheap. Â
When i was home last weekend I had the opportunity to stop by here and check it out. Â I went with my usual, chicken and lamb over rice. Â It took a pretty long time to cook, which was fine with me, hoping that maybe it was fresh. Â When i was first handed the bag i was very happy with the size and weight of the container. Â Once i got back to my car and opened the box, the first thing i noticed was the type of rice. Â I'm not sure what kind of rice it is, but i'm not a fan. Â It was a type of white rice, but not regular white rice. Â Whatever is it, it's not good. Â The salad portion of the meal was very good. Â The lettuce and tomatoes seems very fresh and crispy. Â The meat wasn't bad, but both the lamb and chicken could've used some seasoning. Â It didn't seem like there was any on the chicken and just a little on the lamb. Â I'm used to the city carts where they season the crap out of the meat. Â I really enjoyed their white sauce. Â It seemed like it was actually yogurt based and not the mayo or ranch base that you find in city. Â The combo was $7, which for the size wasn't bad at all, but the taste just wasn't there. Â I definitely want to go back and check out some other items like their breakfast sandwiches and chili cheeseburger.
