amazing restaurant!! I live in NYC and it's hard to find restaurants that are up to par when it comes to food and service when I visit my hometown in Florida. JMarks definitely takes the cake! I had the kale salad for my starter and the Ahi tuna for my main- SO SO good!! The cocktail list is great- there is something for everyone. So many flavored margs- I'm in heaven.

The service is outstanding everytime I visit. Always greeted with a smile and my server even remembered me from my visit a month ago.
    Overall- excellent experience.
So so so much better than any of these national corporate chain steakhouses that are everywhere.

I really wish that I could like this place, but i had a good friend who used to work there, and my opinion on it has thus diminished my opinion

the owners I hear are very fake, money hungry, selfish amateurs who don't know how to run a successful operation

the kitchen itself is a mess and I hear that the staff is constantly putting their dirty hands on the food on the line, things like the fries, asparagus and onion rings....can you say GROSS

Not to mention that I heard that the pompano location didn't have hot water working in the kitchen for like months?!
what?! someone call the health inspector STAT

Service is either sweet and inexperienced or completely rude and bossy
there was one server that looked like a complete slob, she was fat and had makeup all over her face and just looked a mess

as far as the food goes, the product is good from what i have tried, many times the meat isn't cooked right, but the Prime Rib is always good, and I appreciate a local place that has Certified Angus Beef

Prices are reasonable, and I love the Garlic Chicken Pasta, Walnut Shrimp, Prime Rib, Tuna App, Brushetta and a few other things on the menu, but honestly I think the owners should sell it and have someone run it who knows what they're doing

J Mark's is an outstanding local small business upscale restaurant. I love the Grilled Chicken Pasta - the walnuts & goat cheese really make this dish well worth the $14 price tag. Overall, very well-priced with intimate lighting and a wide variety of delicious menu options. JamaicanGrilled Wings are also a family favorite. The hot fresh-baked dinner rolls are also hearty and delicious.

They have outside dining & group event options available on their well-decorated patio and sunroom.

Very pleasantly surprised by last nite's dinner. The server was A+, the food was ample and flavourful. The room is attractive and the prices were very reasonable. I'd definitely go back. Nice job J Mark's.

J Mark's is a great steak restaurant on the corner of the strip mall setting of Copans and Federal highway.

This location offers a private Sunroom where you can soak it up.

I came here for lunch after hitting Gold's Gym (less than a mile away) and sat right at the bar.  The service is great here, on par with Hustons Restaurant, quite similar in a few ways, decor too.

Ordered the Ahi Tuna Appetizer. Its Sushi-grade Ahi Tuna, Cajun crusted, seared rare & drizzled with wasabi pesto. Garnished with pickled cucumber & Soba peanut-noodle salad. Fresh and delicious complete with chopsticks.. Great choice app.

I also had the Chopped Salad. Freshly chopped Romaine lettuce tossed with lime-marinated grilled chicken, diced apples, tomatoes, avocado, roasted corn, bacon, crumbled blue cheese &  balsamic vinaigrette.  The chicken is flavourful and quite a tasty salad, I omitted things like bacon and blue cheese it still was delicious.

They made sure my food came out as specified, perfect!

     Attentive service throughout the lunch.

You can come for the Midday Menu where from 2-5PM special pricing on the popular menu items.

The steaks offered here are  28 day aged Certified Angus Beef. Their steaks are hand cut & trimmed in house daily. They are consistently tender, juicy & flavourful. You can't go wrong ordering any kind of steak.

There's also a Brunch offered on the weekend till 3PM

Great food , great service J Mark's hits the spot!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE J. MARKS!!!   and the Bam Bam Shrimp!  Order it every time we go there and we go there about 3 times a month.  The Chilean Sea Bass is incredible!  And the Crispy Walnut Shrimp is our runner-up favorite.  We have never been disappointed.  The wait staff is always excellent and professional.  Everything is fresh, nothing is frozen and at first they didn't even have a freezer for ice cream which we wanted on their yummy, yummy brownie.  Now they have a freezer for only the ice cream!  Whenever friends come to visit this is the first place we take them.  You have to go early or be willing to wait for a table.  Very popular!

Great fish and chips. My dad and I went back many times and enjoyed ourselves. It does get quite busy for dinner so get there early if you can. The lunch portions were perfect. Dinner sized plates were hard to finish.

There was just nothing special about this restaurant.  Average food, corporate vibe, and aggressively mediocre.

Don't go if you have more than 4 in your party.

Made reservations at 7:30 (on a Friday, maybe that was the mistake). When we got there, we were told by the hostess that they don't take reservations (?!?) and that there would be a 15-30 minute wait.

After 45+ minutes (and 2 separate visits by a person I assume was a manager, who both times assured us our table was being cleared and would be ready in a few minutes), we were finally seated. We did have a lovely meal, eventually.

Being lied to put a real damper on our evening, whether it was the person who took the 'reservation' or the hostess who couldn't deal with the one we had.  People in smaller groups were seated quickly, so they obviously couldn't deal with a group of 6.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Despite all the elderly people from up north messing up the parking by parking their cars half over the parking line.. it was a HIT.

I ordered Orange Chicken- fried crispy chicken chunks in a sweet citrus orange sauce served with basmati rice $14. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Boyfriend ordered Ahi Tuna Burger- Rare. He loved it!!! $14

Carrot cake. Ridiculously moist and tons of whipped cream. The cream cheese frosting was sooo yummy.

$39 for our meal. This is South Florida.. what do you expect??

    Will start being regulars here.

JMarks was out standard Wednesday night spot for a few weeks.  We have had no complaints that weren't addressed (once my crabcake was cold in the middle and they addressed it; once the bread wasn't all the way cooked and they addressed that as well; and once we were forgotten by our waiter but he made it up to us).  Our favorite dishes are: penne with alfredo and broc for the kids; spicy chicken alfredo; and the seared tuna salad for me (seared tuna, avocado, mango and tomatoes with a soy based dressed-- perfect combinations of textures, and then seared rare heated tuna with the cold mango).  The waiters are friendly and management seems to be appreciative of repeat diners.  The nice thing is that JMarks has call ahead seating for busy times.  We live about 15 minutes away and would call ahead so that our seats would be waiting for us when we arrived.

The most amazing shrimp scampi pasta on the planet!!!!

Everything here is super delicious and the ambiance on point.

Service is good but not the best, thus the negative one star. I had to keep asking to have my water filled with annoys me.

Otherwise I'd say DONT skip on this place the food is bomb. Great find while on vacation! If we're ever back in the Pompano area we'll be hitting this spot up for sure!!!

It's about time I tried J Mark's Restaurant. Friday night and where to go .. this was the place. Friends have been, Yelp reviews have been read, and we were in the mood.  Plentiful parking, a dimly lit industrial ambiance, and friendly service from start to finish makes me Yelp yes I'm so glad I came.

They brought us a basket of warm rolls and whipped butter that prepped my tummy for the meal to come.  I started with a delicious basket of calamari, served with three tasty sauces: marinara, pesto and olive oil, and a creamy garlic aeoli that complimented this classic app from the sea. My dinner companion ordered a BLT salad served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, bleu cheese, and topped with a honey bacon balsamic that brings this salad to life.  I was craving more seafood delights, and somewhere between a salad and a filet of many of the fish specials I spotted the Ahi Tuna Sliders.  Win!  Three sliders served with a nice chunk of seared tuna crusted with pecan deliciousness and topped with onion and avocado. The dipping sauce served on the side was a great compliment to these tasty sandwiches: soy-wasabi-ginger salty sweetness that soaked my little buns.

My bestie took his Porterhouse Steak dinner to-go, and it was aromatic and looked amazing .. I don't know how he could resist cutting up this fine piece of meat right there at the table!  I loved their side options, which included everything of garlic masked potatoes to fries, veggies, and even plantains.  A menu of great foods and exotic adult drinks make J Marks a big winner for dinner!  There's even a sun room you can reserve for a special party or large gathering.  Oh, and be sure to grab some of those after dinner candies as you make your way out .. not your typical mint but more of a pina colada tasting hard candy.  Try this restaurant, you'll be glad you did.

Visited this place while on vacation in the Pompano area.  When this was suggested by the group I was not excited.  It was our last night in town, and I did not want to go to a common steakhouse type restaurant that I could visit anytime at home, I wanted seafood but was outvoted.

We were quickly seated, and then bombarded with service.  At least three people came over to take our drink orders/check on us before our server finally came to introduce himself.  He was a decent waiter, but more in-your-face than I typically like my servers to be when I'm at dinner with a group.  He would stay at our table to chat and tell jokes, however, he did a good job with our drinks, and the service was prompt.

In order to satisfy my seafood craving we started with the bam bam shrimp, which were good, but not the best item like that I've ever had (see Bonefish Bang Bang Shrimp), and followed it up with the salmon salad for my entree.  The salad was great, with lots of fresh fruit, and a light yet flavorful dressing.  Others in my group had burgers, which they all enjoyed.

Since I wasn't expecting much going into this dining experience, I was pleasantly surprised.  I'm not sure if this is a restaurant I would seek out again if I'm only in the area for a short period of time, but would definitely consider it, and can see how I would visit frequently if I lived in the area.

I've seen this place so many times, but never got a chance to check it out. Well, I ordered the bruschetta. Oh man, this was the BEST bruschetta I've ever had. So good that I ordered a second order of it. The main course was fine, but the bruschetta was to die tor. I don't know what the heck made it so good. Was it the bread? Were the tomatoes sweeter? I don't know. All of it. Just awesome. For that alone, go there. We will go back.

    Pleasant Surprise.

For years I've seen this place advertised in the paper, but never really thought about going, major mistake. My wife and I went to Calypso Pub first, they were closed for the month. We then drove to Seafood World and they were closed for the week for renovations. I was like, $hit was the F is going on here. So we decided to see if J Marks was open since we have never been there before. Thank god they were open.

When we walked inside it reminded me of Big Bear Brewery. Dark wood decor etc... Anyone who follows my reviews knows that I'm a big fan of the Bear. We sat at the bar and our server/bartender was very friendly. I wish I got her name because she was excellent.

I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich and my wife got the Portobello sandwich. Our food was served and this was no bull$hit, this chicken sandwich was juicy and full of flavor. I've lost count of how many chicken sandwiches I've had in my lifetime, but this one was F'ing outstanding. My wife loved her sandwich and she said that the combination of the balsamic sun dried tomatoes, the smoked mozzarella cheese, and the portobello really made the sandwich special.

Overall just a great dining experience and don't be a fool like me and blow this place off. It's wonderful. Remember to tell them Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!

The complimentary wheat-I think-rolls were puffy (light) & were served piping hot--delicious. After fried calamari (w/3 dipping sauces, my fav is pesto) & huge Jamaican chix wing appetizers, enjoyed half rack ribs - good flavor although not very meaty, saved the huge loaded baked potato for later. Ginormous slice of carrot cake was a little dry, but tasty-not too sweet.  Very friendly, knowledgeable & attentive service by Andrea, didn't rush our party at all. Deducted one (actually one-half) star b/c food is a bit pricey, but great relaxed dining atmosphere for all size groups. No wait to be seated. Luv the tart Key Lime flavored mints @ hostess counter. Sports on tv.  Lots of available parking.  Sunroom seems nice for semi-private parties.

I really like eating here.  The staff is almost always friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is very comfortable - a little "wood and fern" like, but done with taste.  The noise level can get a little high with the live music playing.

Their burgers are excellent.  I generally have the hickory burger which comes with bacon, cheese, hickory sauce and a couple of outstanding onion rings.  Fries are very thin and always hot (at least when they are first served).

I have also had the Blackened Chicken Pasta.  EXTREMELY rich Alfredo sauce - I could only eat half the portion and the rest made a nice meal the next day.  I tried the chicken tenders and they were just OK.  The key lime pie is also very good - not too sweet with a crust made from crushed pecans.

I keep coming back because I know I won't be dissapointed

I really love the food here.  However, I am not saying this because I am a J. Marks. :p

I normally get the pepper vodka pasta or five cheeses.  Both are amazing.  The dishes are large and the flavor is busting at the seams.  The pepper vodka pasta is penne pasta in a spicy red pepper vodka cream sauce.  The five cheeses come with parmesan, romano, mozzarella and fontina cheese in a marinara & cream sauce.  It is topped with ricotta cheese.

If you come during lunchtime, they have drink and entrée specials.  The food here is good.  The staff has been very friendly each time I have been here.  When in the area, I definitely love stopping here for a bite to eat.

They do have a ton of other options for vegetarians too.

I had the hawaiin ribye marinated, and the wife had the mahi mahi blackened sandwich , both served with sweet potato fries. The steak was so tender I thought someone slipped me a marshmallow. The flavors  on the steak were bold, and upfront, perhaps a tad less terriaki would suffice. I will ask not to brush extra on next time. The wife enjoyed her mahi mahi, cooked to a turn. She would like just a smidge more blackening seasoning next time. Overall highly reccomend for a nice gathering.

I love coming here for Monday Night football when I'm in the area.  They are always helpful in making my meal Gluten Free.  This trip I had the Pumpkin Martini to start, OMG was it strong but just so tasty.
I had their Mahi Mahi special with mango salsa and green beans.  Sadly the fish wasn't as fresh as they let on.  The mahi mahi tasted very fishy and I was really disappointed.
Bartender was really great and made the place perfect meal wasn't great this time around but this place is really great.

    Overpriced meals, average food.

Nice atmosphere, adequate service but nothing on the menu justified the price. You can get much better food for less money all over the place.

On top of all that the Coke was flat.

First of all if you call and ask how long the wait is they will tell you 15 minutes then when you arrive they say 35 - 45 minutes.  Since we called from the car in the parking lot we know there were not two bus loads of tourists that arrived in between.

The 35-45 minutes becomes 65 minutes but by then you are too hungry to leave so they basically weaken you to the point where you stay longer than they are worth.

The place looks good, but it's fairly new that's why.

The waitstaff is friendly and some look real good in their jeans, but not good enough to justify the food that seems to have been covered in salt and the steep prices for what you are getting.

Since my partner and I go out 2x - 3x per week I can say with confidence that this place does not live up to the hype or the overly generous reviews people give it.

They are a wannabe Houston's/Cheesecake Factory that appears to have stolen some dishes from both but their cooking falls short.  Everything had way too much salt.

Do yourself a favor and skip this waste of time and money!

I have always wanted to try this place and after going there, I was not impressed. I went there with a couple friends to just have a drink and some appetizers and I was just disappointed in the food. I ordered the calamari and it was extremely breaded and bland. I consider myself a calamari expert because I order it at almost every place I go and this is one of the worst I have had. I also had the Island shrimp, I believe and that was just ok. It was barely better than a shrimp cocktail you can get from Publix.

The service was not great either. My friends and I felt rushed and our waitress was not particularly friendly. I did have a couple glasses of wine, which makes everything better and their wine selection was pretty good.

The decor is nice and they do have a pretty cool bar area, but this place is average at best. Another friend told me the one in Ft. Lauderdale is much better, so I won't condemn this place yet. Stay tuned.

Had lunch here who has eaten here a few times even though she's a vegetarian.

Go figure how I ordered 3 appetizer plates for lunch?  Fried calamari, seared  ahi tuna, & mini cheeseburgers.

The calamari was plentiful and seasoned well but could've used a bit more frying to be crispier.  The seared ahi tuna was decorated with many ingredients, but it could've used less (a lot less oil) and the inside I would've prefered a bit colder (not room temp).  The mini-burgers was fine except that because the put cheddar cheese, it cooled and dried up and didn't melt in my mouth.

And I actually finished most of the food.

Was out running errands when we got hungry. Had heard good things about J Marks.

Walking up the front door says, Proper Attire Required. Being dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, I get worried that I am under dressed. Turns out, I have no need to be worried.

Service was good. The server was knowledgeable. The menu seemed a little short to me, but that's just me. The food was great. I was surprised by the fusion of cajun spices and sushi grade Tuna. I ordered my Tuna mid-rare which to me is warm red center. It was cold, but it wasn't an issue for me. I like my sushi.

    The wine list is limited.

I am composing this  review while soaked in my wife's tom Collins drink. Helps past the time, and luckily i am wearing shorts that are made of some type of synthetic stretch material made by Patagonia. The air is cold and i just got soaked with some serious ice cubes.
Jodi, our server was very apologetic for spilling the drink. The manager, some short skinny guy kept ordering jodi on the floor to clean everything and got the bus boys out to clean the floor.  Here's where my test of service begins.  Yes, my wife's drink  got replaced. The manager did not come over AT ALL to check.  Being a good yelper,  i was patient and by the looks of the place, I was expecting the manager to pay attention.
Nope,  in short, got the bill, no comp, no apology hence this review.
my wife had the jamaican grilled wings,  tamarind sauce too sweet, but decent, wings needed more jerk seasoning and some spice, bland. overall a 1.  My mini burgers with  sweet potato fries, were a 3
did I mention I AM SITTING IN F@$King  tom collins mixer soaked in my shorts  down to my boxers? no manager nothing... eeeh gads!!!
The tom collins drink, 4.  Service, a -2
ok lets add and average, 1+3+4+(-2)=  6/4= 1.5 round off to a solid 1
yep, thats it, i'm concluding this review with a 2.
I will return since they have a good selection for happy hour and decent food. The manager needs to be crucified!!!! i think i am going to write corporate after this review. Local yelpers, send me your thoughts.

    J. Mark's suffers from the Pompano Beach syndrome. It draws the 50 years old or above crowd. There was not a single person sitting at the bar who I could say was less than 50. The restaurant crowd resembles the bar crowd as far as age goes. J. Mark's became very busy late evening on a Saturday and I am guessing you would need to be on a wait list if you have no reservations.

As far as the food goes, it was pretty good but not great. For instance, the dinner bread was kinda common and boring. The clam chowder (the same clam soup is always their soup of the day) was good but it was served with saltine crackers, the square kind you have to crush up and make a mess. It should have been served with oyster shell crackers in my opinion. The rib-eye steak was aged and very good (I love aged steak because it is so tender and tasty) but the mashed potatoes were very thick and hard to eat. They did not have Heinz 57 steak sauce, only A1 and Wostershire. Details, details.. they all add up.

The staff were attentive and kept my ice tea refilled. A different person served my plate than who was waiting on me, so that was confusing. I prefer to see the same person and not get tag-teamed.

On to the music and decor. The background music was annoying elevator music. I would have preferred something along the lines of Sinatra, etc., to give a more New York feel to the place. The decor was very nice and there was inside, outside and bar seating.

They also seem to have a noticable preference to hire white male clone look-alikes for waiters over any female waiters.

Just got back from this restaurant after trying it for the first time. It is a bit classy inside, with dim lighting, and clean decor. The servers all worked as a team, and were very on point and efficient. I was spoken to by about 7 employees all in one night who made eye contact and smiled, and warmly welcomed/served/said goodbye.

The food was very reasonable--$9 for burgers, $10-$13 for salads, and a little higher for some other seafood/grilled items. Here is a synopsis on the food from each member of our table: Seared Ahi tuna salad with mango and avocado--one of the BEST quality tuna dishes i've had. Pastas--nice. Tried the one with goat cheese.. Sweet potato fries--WOW. Caesar salad with salmon on top: amazing piece of fish, with a very fresh salad. Burger--generous, good quality, and delicious. Happy hour drinks: Yuengling for $2, and a delicious mojito in a martini glass for only $4--how can you go wrong??

One point of constructive criticism for the restaurant: the wooden chairs were a bit heavy, a bit uncomfortable, and made a terribly loud noise as you drag them in or out. I would recommend some felt bumpers at the bottom of each chair and/or cushioning.

I usually expect the worst when I try new places, but this place was exceptional. I would highly recommend trying J Marks if you haven't yet.

In this neighborhood it's hard to find any type of good, relaxing, and semi-fine dining that has great food and service. Recently, they have raised their prices a bit and changed some things around on their menu that I don't agree with. Like the sliders only coming with three burgers and no fries. The cheapest appetizer you can get is $11. I just wish they had smaller bite options so you wouldn't break the bank.

The highly recommended dishes to try is here above all of their burgers and steaks. They feature dry aged steaks and their burgers are huge and juicy. Unless you get the mini burgers, which are equally amazing. They aren't dried out like some tend to be in comparison with a regular burger. If you're not a burger or red meat person the pastas, fish and chips, and deep sea tuna burger are great selections. If you want a salad, I highly recommend the Asian Chicken salad, the plum dressing is scrumptious.

The atmosphere is very relaxing and they have a few tv's located in the bar area and the "sunroom". They have a decent happy hour, but I've noticed recently how small their martinis are though. The wine selection is good, but the beer selection isn't too large, I wish they had craft beers available, I think that would draw me in more. My boyfriend loves the fettuccine alfredo pasta, it's not too oily or greasy. Last time I went, I ordered the swordfish, and I didn't get the sauce on it, but even blackened it was quiet bland. I wouldn't order it again since I think I could make it at home better than they can and without all the fattening sauces.

I live very close to this place, and pass by it every day. But I never tried it until this weekend, since I had heard my parents' horror story about their one visit to this place when it first opened. It involved undercooked salmon and a very rude waitress. Even so, I've been wanting to try it, and figured they had to have improved since that visit. I'm glad I ended up going.

We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2:15, so there wasn't a huge crowd, but it wasn't empty either. Our waiter, Robert, was excellent, and quickly brought us out these delicious whole grain rolls right out of the oven. My friend ordered the mini burgers with the Idaho potato fries, while I opted for the orange chicken, which is on their mid-day menu (from 2-5 pm) at a cheaper price than their regular menu ($4 cheaper, to be exact). We also ordered side salads - she ordered a regular house salad, while I got a side Caesar. The side salads are $3.50, and they're very big. I enjoyed mine, but had to ask for more croutons since it only had two.

Then came the entrees. For one thing, there was nothing "mini" about the mini burgers. They're huge. I had a bite, and they were delicious, but I was glad I didn't order them, because it was just too much food. The Idaho potato fries that came with the burgers were more like shoestring fries, and they were delicious. My orange chicken, meanwhile, was fantastic. It was like the orange chicken from the Cheesecake Factory, but better... and a normal sized portion of it. The rice that came with it was surprisingly flavorful, which was surprising since it's just white rice.

I will definitely be back here... and will probably keep on ordering that yummy orange chicken :)

    J. Marks is a notch-up from the TGI Friday's or Ruby Tuesday's (e.g. "fern bars") that are so prevalent today.  Actually, I would say its direct competitor would be The Cheesecake Factory.

Atmosphere - This place reminded me of Dakota's Steakhouse in Simi Valley, as it had a lot of leatherette booths w/ natural stone galore.  The servers are dressed nicely in white dress shirts and jeans (hence, where I get the Ruby Tuesday's connection).

Food - A little like The Factory, the menu seemed to cover a broad range.  With a lot of different types of American cuisine to choose from as you peruse the menu.  I went to this place twice over a couple of weeks.  On my first visit I had the Baja Chicken Sandwich (sans the avocado).  It was made w/ fresh tasty grilled chicken.  On my second visit I had the catch of the day (tilapia).  It was also reasonable priced as well as tasty.  Both times the food was as expected with the level of the restaurant (oh, I really liked that they have sweet potato fries.  I am addicted to these things).

Service - The first visit was so-so, as I think the waitress was new.  She came off a little smart when I asked for tea, "unsweetened" and she responded "...that is how it comes..." w/ attitude. Sorry, where I am from if you do not ask you get sugar water!  On the second visit the service was over the top w/ the waiter almost around too much.

Overall - J. Marks is a nice place to take a date and impress w/ out killing your wallet.  I will definitely stop again if I am ever in the area.

Nice Houston's knock-off, with a lot more value items on the menu (not like dollar fries though).  The bar area is very nice and a great place to eat or just get together with friends for a few drinks.  It's not a sports bar, but they have a couple nice plasmas and you can watch a game there, sort of like watching a sporting event at the bar of an Outback or similar.  The architecture and ambiance of the place are nice, but nary does that mean the food is good.  But, the food is good.  Prices are from the $8 range for some nice salads & sandwiches to the low $20's for some steaks and related fair.  Nice portion sizes.  Kid friendly, and mostly booths, so you can force your rambunctious 3 year old to sit on the inside and not have them terrorize the neighboring patrons, letting them enjoy a nice dinner too.

Some outdoor sitting is available & they have a room that can be cordoned off for a private event, which is nice.

    All in all, very pleasant.
