I agree with the last review.  It's a towny bar and the only sound in the bar when an outsider walks in is the music.  Come on Ankeny don't get too stuffy.  I'm a local too but just new.  That's why Tonic is kicking butt and taking names...they're friendly all the time especially the bartenders. They get "it"...the nicer you are the more drinks they buy and the better tip they give!  Just good business sense!  So, the service sucks too.  Unfriendly and uncomfortable!

This is the kind of townie bar where you walk in, all conversation screeches to a halt, and the entire populace of the bar turns their heads simultaenously to look at you. Really.  It's like going back to the small town where your former high school classmates are now tending bar, except I'm not from Ankeny... thus the synchronized head-swiveling.

When I first moved to Ankeny, this was about the only place to get a decent beer on tap.  Luckily, we now have Old Chicago, Wig and Pen, and a billion other places so there's no longer any need for me to experience 20 heads turning to look at me in perfect unison.

Townies galore. Man, I haven't been here in a long time. Gotta love strip-mall bars.

Unremarkable inside, cramped seating.

On a high note, it used to be one of the only locations around Ankeny to get Guinness on tap. I drove by last night, and they had a Fat Tire neon sign in the window. Brownie points for that.
