Stopped in here with the hubby for after dinner coffee and to listen to some music. The drinks (I had a mocha baileys concoction) were yummy, but the decor leaves something to be desired. Is it the lighting - too bright? or the lack of warmth? I am not sure, but the hubby and I found ourselves gazing through the window to the fires of Bertuccis and wishing we were there instead. The music on a Friday night was nice, but nothing to write home about. Typical jazz... a bit ho hum.

A really cool find in the suburbs!
The decor is stylish, it's very spacious, and the treats are delightful!  Seriously, BEST chai latte I have EVER tasted.  I waited about 10 minutes to get served, but sooo worth it..
Definitely keep this place in business!!

I love this place. I've been coming intermittently for several years as I live in new york but have close friends in the area. I've mainly been here on weekend evenings when they have live music, which is generally amateur but consistently solid. The place is really classy, the food and drink is good and the owners are frequently here and incredibly friendly. Highly recommended!

I went here before it was a popular place to go, oop i dropped my lensless glasses... No seriously this place is and always has been a good place to go chat with friends and read on the other hand there are more people who know this now so its a little more difficult to read at some times during the day.

Nice place to get some work done.  I had a soy decafe latte and a piece of their cheesecake (peanut butter & brownie) which was yummy.

I was there on a Friday and they had live music, which was great.

I think I found a spot to frequent.

A basic coffee shop with fairly mediocre coffee. The dark roast was much less flavorful than I would have hoped. The food wasn't particularly impressive (Store-bought bagels and pastries). Service was good and barristas were friendly, and store was clean.

We were in town just for the day and we were starving!  I put a search in my Iphone for 'salad' and we were just down the street.  Great atmosphere..not overly fancy but 'cool' - coffee/food area and wine bar as well.  We were there for lunch..I had the veggie wrap - tuscan hummas and veggies...YUM..and the BF had a chic wrap with walnuts and cranberries..he also ate every bit.  They advertised live music and of course had free internet.  The girl who waited on me was nice..but not overly helpful to explain what was in each one...had to pull some teeth!  lol  Regardless we were happy to have a nice place to relax -OH..and only other thing was the parking lot was very limited...actually I think we got the last spot...so keep in mind

Don't come here. This place has become my new favorite study spot, and if you come here then there will be less space for me.

Employees constantly disappear to text or "work" behind the wall... That's all fine, but do it one at a time or at least constantly check for customers. I am a regular here and often watch people wait for a barista, and on occasion this happens to me as well. Coffee is just ok.

Somewhat less impressive on most recent visit - fewer events, reduced hours and unenthusiastic baristas. Think it may have jumped the shark with the addition of the cocktail bar, trying to be too many things leads to confused identity. Hope they will be able to turn it around into the great community place of its glory days soon.

In order to avoid both an accident and two police directing traffic because there was some sort of town fair going on in downtown Chelmsford, my friend and I took a right and ended up driving by The Java Room. Very unexpected find! Of course, we slammed on the brakes and caused a 10 car pile up behind us so we could check it out. (Not really- no one was as smart as us to turn off out of that traffic nightmare!)

I got a very cool vibe from the inside of the restaurant. Awesome decor and you could tell people went there for more than just coffee. Like Starbucks for adults to socialize. I saw several older couples at the tables just hanging out. It even has a wine bar and it looks like live music is played several times a week. Even the bathrooms had unique decor and were super nice.

I ordered an iced latte and not only was it delicious, the price was tremendous. Faster than a Starbucks, less money, and tasted better. If I lived here, I think I'd be there every day getting coffee! It's on my list of places that I have to go the next time I'm even remotely close to the area!

I love this place! The coffee and food are amazing, though the food menu is limited. In particular, don't miss the corn chowder or chili. There's a gorgeous Kawai grand piano. The piano must take the space of a few tables, so the piano shows the owner's commitment to live music. The music (Friday and Saturday evenings, Saturday and Sunday brunch) is excellent (I'm a bit biased here since I play the Saturday brunch). The decor is simple and tasteful and the environment is surprisingly calming. Free wifi is an added perk.

    *3.5 stars*
This place caught my eye when I drove by so I made it a point to go here when I could.  It's a very hip cafe considering it's in a small town, which is fantastic and it opens late.  There's plenty of seating and also an actual bar serving alcohol (though it was closed when I came in on Sunday).
I had a latte which was okay.  I had a bit of hope that they'd do latte art here since it would go with how contemporary this place looked but oh well, no biggie. The latte itself was pretty good but a bit on the bitter side. The barista was nice and there's plenty of seating which is great.
Great cafe in a small town.

I stumbled across the Java Room unexpectedly on Yelp. Searching for a cafe in Westford, I came across the Java Room and decided to give it a chance.

    I'm glad I did.

Decent coffee. Even better hot chocolate. And the staff behind the counter are good at what they do. They make drinks in a snap and don't sacrifice quality just to get the coffee out faster. The cafe is incredibly clean (no wayward wrappers and spilled milk near the condiments area). They have music on Friday and Saturday nights. There is enough seating to fit almost 40 people comfortably. There are even larger tables if you want to have a book club or a meeting. There are also quieter tables on the fringe of the cafe if you want to conduct an interview (as I was) or go on an innocent first date. Also a good place to study if you thrive in places with ambient sound. And the music is soothing. None of the trendy stuff at Starbucks and none of the strange "independent" music they play at the more obscure and hipster coffeehouses.

All in all: Even though it's a hike from home, I'd come back if I was traveling north on Rt. 495.

I very much like the Java Room. I do not live close enough to frequent it often but I have managed to visit a few times.

The coffees, lattes and baked goods are delicious and I have always been helped by incredibly helpful staff. This place smokes Starbucks in every respect except there is only 1 Java Room and 1,247,765 Starbucks (unconfirmed number).

The owner is really nice too. She loves Jazz music.

I'd like to come here for music and a drink sometime but it hasn't happened yet. I will be by for some coffee sometime again though.

Whenever I am in the Chelmsford area, I look forward to a comfortable stop here to enjoy the excellent espresso beverages.  The interior is decorated in a serene color scheme that causes my blood pressure to immediately drop about 10 points (until the caffeine kicks in, of course).
In my experience with more than 40 visits, most of the baristas here are capable of producing top-notch espresso drinks with appropriately thick micro foam.  In fact, if all of The Java Room's baristas possessed this skill, this cafe would earn an easy 5 stars.  As it is, The Java Room is high on my list of favorite cafes.  As a bonus, they feature live music on the weekends.

I really enjoyed this place for a few reasons, one I had an americano and it was good, two they have a sweet wine bar!!!  The atmosphere was good, a little random because it is so big, but good.  There was a crowd on the day I went and that was good to see!!! The barista's were really nice!  I am not sure where they get their coffee...but I was overall impressed by this little cafe.  The only thing I would have changed is the woman giving me the last few drops of the soy milk box, fresh would have been nice...but besides that great experience Java Room!!

This place is how all coffee shops should be run. Great coffee, soups, cookies, pastry, sandwiches. Top that off with amazing service and free wifi with comfy seats, and you got a great place.

Absolutely adorable. This is a perfect place to have a first date, study (free wifi- no limit), and to have a drink or coffee/tea with some friends. They have food, but I can only comment on my mango smoothie (yes- it's not the powdered stuff!).

Sunday= jazz/ grand piano.... I love the atmosphere and will come back (although- I do wished they opened a little longer). Reminders of my local coffee shops in Berkeley, CA and Cambridge, MA- but a little more upscale and an older/family crowd. The prices aren't too bad either, but it;s a little odd that when you walk into the door there are coffee beans sitting in a sink- awkward.

This beats Brew Awakening in Lowell (since there is parking).

The Javaroom is a great place if you're looking for somewhere to get together in the suburbs. The atmosphere, decor and mood is really superb there, but when it comes to their coffee, its not good!! Sure, they have a large selection, but drinks are very poorly made.

I wanted to try something different and ordered their "Almond Joy Latte," which was supposed to have flavors of almond and coconut. Those flavors were nowhere to be found, and my drink resembled just plain coffee. For what it tasted, I would've rathered a plain coffee from Dunkin's for half the price. Both my friends were also disappointed with their orders, as it was either too sweet or tasted nothing like what it should have.

It's a shame because as a coffeehouse, at the very least you should have great coffee.

SIck to death of Dunks and Starbucks, I decided to patronize a local business and get a little funky at the same time.  Enter Javaroom.

I've driven past this coffee shop in Ginger Ale Plaza countless times and have never gone in.  Popped in to get coffee and breakfast for my husband and myself.

Atmosphere is very cute, dark, cozy, hipster magnet (if there are in fact hipsters in Chelmsford).

They had a HUGE coffee menu and some baked goods as well.  I got a regular drip coffee and a bagel for the hub, and a peach iced tea and a homemade brownie for me.  Chocolate tastes better in the morning, don't judge.

The good: My H liked the coffee.  I liked my brownie...it tasted like what my mother would make, if my mom actually knew how to bake.

The bad: According to H, the bagel was "like cardboard. Worse than Starbucks!" He quit after one bite.  My peach iced tea wasn't very good either.  It was flavored with syrup instead of brewing peach-flavored tea so had a weird artificial taste.  However, I bet the plain tea tastes good.

So there you have it.  Avoid syrup in your tea and cardboard bagels, and you will probably like the Javaroom.  I'll be back with a better ordering strategy.

I just came back from studying here.  It has a nice arrangement with comfy chairs and lighting.  Coffee is served in a round cup and dish.  There is a baby grand piano for music during Sunday brunch.  Otherwise, pretty low key and not too busy during the day before Thanksgiving.  You soon realize that lots of locals come here and chit-chat with the baristas.  Price of coffee is reasonable but unfortunately no refills like Panera.

The coffee is weak, and not particularly good.  The espresso is mediocre, and the shots are awfully small.  I had expected much better, given all the glowing reviews.  (On second reading, some of them seem to be for "atmosphere", some for "coffee beverages" so maybe I just went to the wrong place.)

I don't think Starbucks is perfect, but I have to say that it's way better than this!

Note: I went there on a weekday morning, to meet a business colleague.  The place was empty.

A good place to grab a bagel and hot beverage.  Great atmosphere and a good supply of outlets for your laptop.  Free net service.

I haven't been at night, but I can see there's a small wine bar there.

The bad side of having been recently laid off is that I have no job, and I'm not used to not working. The good side of not being employed is that I finally have time to get together with friends during the day--and I don't have to watch the clock. Enter Java Room. This little coffee shop in the center of town is perfect for these little "meetings." The café has a baby grand piano for evening entertainment and features several bar-height tables as well as "standard-size" ones. There is also free wireless access for those in need. What's lacking are comfortable chairs, which would make the establishment more cozy and intimate.

The only thing I've ever eaten here is the tomato/spinach quiche, which was decent, but they have some other, perhaps more-interesting, options such as wine, wraps, and scones. The coffee for dine-in is poured into ceramic cups rather than Starbuck-esque containers. My medium regular was ok but I thought it was a little expensive. It was also not hot enough. I'll keep returning for my low-key encounters with friends, but next time I'll ask them to nuke my drink.

I've been searching for a coffee shop that fully gives me what I want. No bullshit attitude, good coffee, free wifi, and nice over stuffed couches. Well, the Java Room, fulfills two out of four. Although the service was nice, and my chai was good ( needed more ice to fully give it what it needed ). The other patrons are snobby. Maybe the place draws in that sort of crowd. I mean, they do have a piano, so anyone over 40 really frequents this place. My friend and I were the youngest people there, the rest had 401ks. The bitch sitting diagonal from me kept giving me looks and stares. I obviously know when you are shit talking about me in your native language. Anywho, other than that, the place is cool. I wished they had more comfortable chairs to sit in, thats what it needs. And free wifi, woohoo.

It pains me (sort of) to give this place three stars, because it seems like a place I would really love. But I went there in the middle of the day a few weeks ago, and the service was just sub-par, even for an independent coffee house. The three people working there seemed genuinely annoyed that I would inconvenience them to (gasp) order coffee.

    "Double espresso please?"
    "UGH. I guess so."

    ...

The coffee itself was okay, I suppose, but nothing phenomenal. Hopefully the service wasn't typical, and I'd try again sometime.

I wish this place was around back when I was in high school - I would have loved to spend my after-school hours at a coffee shop like this.

The coffee and hot chocolate are good and it's a great place to hang out or read for an afternoon.  The Java Room has become THE place where my old friends and I will meet up when we're all home visiting our parents.

Extra props for being open later than most places in the area too!

Met up with my wife for lunch here.

Pretty decent selection of food considering I thought it was just a coffee shop.  I had a ham and cheese quiche with a cup of corn chowder (~$7-$8), plus a caramel latte.  The  latte was very good, but perhaps a bit too sweet.  The quiche was very cheesy and full of flavor, but slightly cool in the middle.  The corn chowder was good as well, hearty yet smooth in flavor.  My wife had the chicken caesar wrap which was "pretty good".  Portion wise I was completely stuffed and would probably get only the quiche or soup next time.

Service was friendly and they brought the food out to our table.  Decor was recently updated, and was well done.  There is also a bar now, which I haven't yet tried (this is great since the Bertucci's next door doesn't have a bar).  Good selection of dessert items as well.

Worth a visit in anyone's book.

This is really the only local-owned coffee shop/meeting place in Chelmsford, or at least the only one worth going to.  For that alone it earns 5 stars, because my hometown really needs more places like this.

The drinks are great and the staff is amazingly accomodating and friendly.  I've never been to a music night here, but I did notice the local art on the walls.  Big thumbs up to that!

This place opened a little after I graduated high school and while in college old friends and I would come here to meet up.  We'd dispersed post-Chelmsford to various points of the globe, to places like San Diego and NYC, and we were all pleasantly surprised how nice this cafe was.  It's nice to know Chelmsford has a place like this for its residents to go and hang out, so they don't have to drive all over creation just to sit, talk, and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

Although I've never been there for one of their live performance, I typically visit The Javaroom in Chelmsford on my ride into work in the morning and enjoy amazing service, fantastic coffee and a really great environment. Dawn and Jess always welcome you in with a smile. I usually get a large Caramel Latte { on Fridays I might indulge in a scone }. There is free wireless access for those needing an electronic fix. And the audio backdrop weaves unpredictable songstyles together in a semisonic music glue that always conjures deeper caffeine-induced thought flights. I highly recommend stopping in.

Being from Montreal, I value a great local cafe - and the java room delivers.
I used to work near the cafe and would stop in every day to get my early morning cafeine fix. Since they have free wireless sometimes I never made it to the office and opted to lounge on the comfy sofa and work from the cafe.
They have amazing coffee,  I usually go for the cappucino.  The muffins are a good size and are also pretty tasty. Some of the other desserts are a bit disappointing. Nothing unusual or exceptional in their cakes or cookies.
It's also good to go for a light lunch or a take-out lunch for the road. They have a good veggie wrap with hummus and other non-veg salad options.
Their smoothies are called "Blenders" and the Chai and Strawberry flavours are addictive.
Seating: They have too few comfortable chairs and I always feel gypped when I arrive in a crowd and I have to sit in the hard chairs.
I still haven't been there on a weekend night, apparently there is great live music. I should check that out...
