This place is a pretty typical restaurant that adds a couple of Irish themed dishes, decor and beers to its menu and then calls itself an Irish Pub.
The food we got wasn't even close to Irish themed, but I do have to say it was pretty good: bacon jalapeno poppers, fried calamari, bacon wrapped shrimp, mac & cheese poppers and onion rings (to name a few). We were there with a group of 6-8 people and shared most of this stuff.
The bacon wrapped poppers and shrimp were awesome. Usually you get these tiny little shrimp that have flabby under cooked bacon somewhere near it. The shrimp were massive and the bacon was cooked to a very dark brown. The poppers were equally well done. I don't know why the rest of the world like flabby undercooked bacon. The calamari was pretty terrible, but also pretty average, if you get what I mean. I guess no one knows how to cook that.
When our group first arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty and they tried to sit us in the most awkward seating arrangement I've even seen. Half of us on some couch in front of a fireplace while the rest of us gathered around or something. They did move us when requested, but I found it odd that they would try to squeeze us into such a strange place to begin with when the place was empty.
We were really there to drink, and drink we did. Our large table was in their dining room area and they sat several families next to us over the course of the night. From what little I remember, we were quite a spectacle. Not sure how much those being sat next to us appreciated that.
All in all, I'd skip this place again. Just another casual dining restaurant trying to brand itself as an Irish pub.

All Irish bars have those, right?
I use to live right around the block and would come here often.
Most recently we came on a Sunday and both enjoyed our drinks. We didn't stay long, but this looks like a great place to hang during summer. The have a small, but nice patio. And now that I think about it they also have a small, but nice bar. Looks like they have lots of regular seating-- we witnessed some Magic games going on which was cool.
Next time I find myself in Redmond, I will stop here again!
I love the look of this bar! I also love the feel of it, though I could be partial to Irish bars. I've been here twice, and both times the wine was excellent. Try the corned beef and cabbage egg rolls; they are to die for! The entree I had (fish tacos) left something to be desired, but then again maybe that's what I get for ordering fish tacos at an Irish bar. Their trivia night is a blast as well.
Review Source:I was a regular here, at least once a week for four years from c. 2007 to 2011. less regularly since then and not at all in the last nine months or so. After my visit today, it's clear they've gotten worse over time. Â The service was even more sub-par than the "barely adequate" standard they aspired to for most of those years. French fries were still excellent; everything else was distinctly bland and barely worth finishing (most of it wasn't - either finished or worth doing so). Â We ordered several small items, some of which never made it to the table - but they did make it to the bill.
On the plus side, the alcohol was ok. But it came out of a bottle so I see little leeway for them to foul that up. Â Two stars translates as, "Meh, I've experienced better," in the Yelp system. That implies you can tolerate it; I have to say it was much worse than that. Â It's not particularly cheap, and it's certainly not good; they've long passed the quality/value ratio onto the downward slope.
I really hate to say all this as several years ago it was my favorite place in town.
Giving these guys 4-stars based on their amazing Irish Entrees. Their Bangers & Mash and Lamb Shank are to DIE FOR. Just delicious! Their Fish & Chips as also amazing.
The rest of the menu is standard American fare, high quality and yummy. Solid beer selection, the decor is your standard Irish/Sports bar. Some tables have built in chess table w/ pieces!
I'm here 3 to 4 times per week. The Luck of the Irish burger is quite good, as are the fish and chips and the lamb shank. The staff is friendly and helpful. They are willing to customize the food if you ask nicely! For drinks, the wine selection is "meh" but they do great beer and cocktails - try a honey storm!
Since the remodel was completed in Dec 2012, they've added tons of space with room for bigger groups and tons of big screens to see sports. There's a gas fireplace surrounded by nice lounging chairs.
It's also a good place to network with local tech workers.
Their choice of music stations is poor, imho, but at night the crowd noise is too high to hear it anyway.
My wife and I really like this place. Â For what JJ's is, it is 5 stars.
we go here often with the kids. Â The service is friendly, though admittedly once in a while slow, but that is because the waitresses we experience as social which we find fun. Â They are always friendly if you need to flag then down and we let them know if we need to get in and out.
Beer selection is very good with a couple of rotating taps. They add special items to the menu to keep it interesting. Â We always have been happy with the food.
happy hour for us and the kids is very good. Â It is almost a dream come true these days to feel you went to a pub/restaurant and were able to bring your kids.
the new expansion really owned up the place. Â New restrooms (they were pretty bad before) and a fireplace seating area like going to Tulley's Coffee, only you are drinking a pint. Â
cool special where you can purchase discounted movie tickets with dinner
it is truly a nice feeling and decorated restaurant. Â Final feature, there is not really a spot where you do not have a view of a HD TV with a sporting event on.
This is my Cheers. I love it here. The food is meh - it's pub food and it's fine (and it's actually recently gotten a little better) but I go for the service. Mark, Tera, and Jeff have always made me feel welcome. I've spent my birthdays, anniversaries, happy hours, etc. here. I love the trivia nights and I love the new expansion (especially the bathrooms - THANK YOU for a proper ladies room). The location is great especially if you have a little too much you can go sober up in a movie next door with discounted tickets. The only thing I would change is to have more (modern) music, especially on the weekends. It would make the place feel a little younger because, really, I'm not trying to go Palmers...
Review Source:I've been to JJ's many, many times in the past few years. The food is always consistantly tasty - great burgers and steak fries. Never a bad Guinness to be had here either! The place could certainly do with more traditional Irish food, though.
The place has a pretty good vibe - the new addition is beautiful by the way! - but come on do you really need 6 or more huge TV's in the dining area?!?! It was quite distracting before, but since the remodel I find it almost difficult to sit and have a nice dinner there. My husband and I had dinner at JJ's last night, in fact, and there were 4 big TV's directly behind him staring back at me. Why not keep it in the bar?
The other thing keeping me from giving JJ's 4 or 5 stars was the lap dog that dined at the next table last night. I'm a big animal lover - ask anyone. But a dog, however small and cute, does not belong in a restaurant. Ever. Doesn't this violate health codes or something? The little guy was certainly cute, and didn't make a sound, but I was pretty angry that the waitstaff and management allowed this dog to dine with it's owners. In there laps, at the table.
I'm not saying I'll never dine at JJ's again. They have a lot going for them. But there are some definite turn offs that make me think twice.
JJ Mahoneys has expanded into the space next door... the new area is quite nice with a cozy fireplace. The last tow times I've been in the service has been real slow... took 15 minutes to get our beers, and then forever to get our servers attention so we could order food. The food came out quick and was still good. You'll have to be careful coming here if you have a movie to go to because you'd probably be late!
Review Source:This is one of my fav pubs in eastside. i have spent many memorable nights here with my wife. But tonight's experience was far from it. Its the first time i went there since their expansion and i found the service very bad. I went there on Nov 21st, day before thanksgiving and i think they are understaffed. Its a big enought pub now and not sure if its a problem for them to walk  back and forth often. all my orders, be it a glass of water or beer took atleast 10-15 mins. and the person serving me was clearly unhappy, either with me or with the work, i can say it from her body language. and she was making mistakes after mistakes (like i found a mistake in the bill and had my card in there, she took my card but it never came back when the new bill came).
anyway, i like this place and i want to see it succeed. i understand its too early since the expansion and its gonna take a bit of time to fix the problems. please do so and i hope this review helps to identify some of the problems.
Alright JJ's. You happen to be my local Irish pub, and as a lover of Irish (and player) of Irish tunes I want so bad to like you, I really do. What you have going for you:
A great pint. I actually had a bad pint at a place just across the street, so I appreciate your good pints (yes I guess it's possible to have bad Guiness?).
Your Luck O' The Irish burger is really good. More people should abuse HP sauce and Dubliner cheese in this way.
I really want to try your full Irish breakfast, and one day I will, but the fact its on your menu is stellar.
I love the fact you have (mostly) Irish music, though it's somewhat all over the place. Ok Snow Patrol doesn't exactly go with Danù, and U2 followed by Lùnasa is a little weird but I see what you're trying to do there.
You always have brought me good service. That I appreciate
What you could do...
I went there and 2 of the tv's were broken. One bloke was complaining about it. I actually thought it was a good thing. I don't need to have a TV in my field of vision no matter where I sit! Leave em in the bar, let the diners have their peace.
Make a call to host some sessions! You know what a session is right? There's a lot of folks out there that would love to liven up the place with some live traditional Irish music. It'll beat the pants off playin The Cranberries! I don't think there's a single place on the eastside that does it so you could be the first!
so I walked into the place last week during Seattle's heat wave to cool off and get a cold beer. I walked in and the hot dankness of the room hit me and I walked right out. It was packed and the AC didn't seem to be working .. or helping.
I gave it another shot last night .. and it was a lot nicer .. the bar was full so I sat outside on the patio. Service was great.. I grabbed a Kilkenney's, the NITRO pour was perfect and the beer tasted very fresh. Ordered the fish n chips .. amazing and big portions to boot. (4 pieces of thick harp battered cod) DELISH! my server was attentive and pleasant, not over the top but acceptable enough for me to leave a 20% tip.
I'll definitely be coming back for their fish 'n chips!
Best bar in Redmond!
Granted, I don't kick it in Redmond very often...for whatever reason I never have, even though I've always been on the Eastside. I'm glad I did discover J.J. Mahoney's a few years back, and have been there a handful of times. They have great bar food and a good selection of beers on tap. Getting a table has never been a problem, despite a prime location next to the movie theater, and the outdoor patio is great for those rare clear/warm Seattle nights. The bartenders and servers are all super friendly, and service is fast/efficient.
Make sure to check it out if you haven't already!
This was the first place I ate in Redmond after interviewing for a job up here and moving a week later to the area.
It has been downhill since then really. The food is terrible and I double dare you to order the nachos.. dry, stale chips and even drier chicken. The staff is very nice though and the liquor drinks are made with much vigor. Trivia night is the only reason I give this 2 stars, I love the trivia here.
I will say though that 2 stars is based primarily on the fact that the food is so bad, even for a pub. The atmosphere and staff are great.
I've never actually eaten here, but I have attended their Open-Mic night.
This is a small place and grabbing a seat to actually view the musicians can be awkward. The ladies bathroom no longer exists and the one you get to use is a nasty-converted men's room. The crowd reads a bit old for me... maybe more suitable for those in their 40's+.
That being said the open-mic was decent and JJ Mahoney's has gluten-free beer! It is difficult getting drinks that you can be 100% sure are gf, and so I give this place a major thumbs up for offering gf beer.
A couple of coworkers and I came here one day after work. Â I had a coupon for some free beer, but I dont' think the waitress ever gave it to us. Â As for the food, it was lackluster. Â You would think that Shepard's Pie at an Irish pub would be somewhat decent-- instead, it was too much mashed potatoes and not enough flavor. Â My friend ordered the Guinness Pie and it wasn't that great either. Â
Food is a 2 thumbs down.
This place has always been alright. A nice quick place to pop in for some happy-hour before going to Bella Botega for an evening movie. Not the greatest food in the world, but decent enough.
But!! A few months ago some friends of mine were doing the exact same thing, when one of then went to the restroom after she ordered her food. She said that while she was washing her hands, she noticed somthing on the wall. Looking closer, she soon realized that it was many baby cockroaches creeping out of a crack in the wall!! Ick! She quickly ran out and they promptly left after telling the manager of the situation. He didn't seem very worried about it, by the way.
Needless to say, they are never going back. And neither am I.
Yelp helped me get a bigger beer here! That's always a plus!
JJ's is a few doors down from Redmond's movie theater, and has always been my place to stop for pre-movie foods. Â Today was only an acceptation since I went post movie.. but I digress!
Bangers and Mash! I cannot fully articulate just how delicious their Bangers are! (That's Irish Sausage fyi) served with Mashed Potatoes (Mash) cute lil corns and soda bread with raisins!
Fridays and Saturdays are insanely busy and it can be hard to get a seat, but I'd expect nothing less from such an excellent establishment. Â If you have no patience for eating out on the weekends, you have no business eating out at all. Â Weekends are busy, though Sunday is an all-day happy hour... :3
When you live in Redmond, your idea of a good time varies greatly than all the cool kids spending their Sunday evening at some cool place in Seattle. In Redmond all you need is some good friends*, cheap beer, cheap but delicious appetizers, and a cheesy summer action flick within stumbling distance.
That being said this faux Irish-Pub in a strip mall in Redmond has it all, and is pretty cool!
-All day Happy Hour on Sundays, during Sounders games, and from 3-6 pm daily. Including $3 drafts and cheap appetizers.
-Mac & Jacks, Smithwicks, Guiness, Pyramid Hefeweizen and Harp Lager on Tap.
-Huge Selection of delicious appetizers for $4-6 each during Happy Hour, including: Mac & Cheese Bites, Onion Rings, Potato Skins, Chicken Wings, corn poppers, etc. Even some regular food is discounted, such as cheeseburger and fries and chicken strips and fries.
-Outdoor Patio
-Quick, awesome service, from a super nice and funny server.
- Discounted tickets for the Bella Bottega theatre next door.
-If you check in on Yelp after 2 visits you unlock a free upgrade from a pint to a mug of beer!
I imagine I will be here a lot on Sundays to enjoy some quality time with friends over beers before a crappy movie, in a crappy movie theatre. But I will enjoy all my time at JJ Mahoneys!
*Note: Good friends are not included, you need to bring your own.
Mahoney's is a small pub/bar in a shopping area next to a movie theater, so we stopped by for some late lunch before a movie. The space felt a bit crammed, maybe it was because we got seated right next to a table that was overflowing with some exited, card playing, uber loud peeps...with a 6 month baby in tow. After about 20 minutes we managed to tune out the noise and enjoy or meal.
I ordered a pastrami sandwich. Pastrami was very dry, and when I tasted my sister's corned beef sandwich, strangely the meat tasted identical, with the exception of Pastrami being sliced thinner. Proper corned beef should fall apart in your mouth and pastrami should be moist.
Clam chowder was very average as well. Service was adequate.
I think I'm going to stick to the Wild Rover for pub fair.
P.S. One cool thing though, you can purchase discount movie tickets for $7.50 or $8.00.
This place is a joke, if getting treated like crap is your thing, then you'll love this place.
Slow service and staff so insecure they can't look you in the eyes.
It was my first time there, and the last. Go to building 7(Celtic Bayou) a few blocks away. Awesome service who actually appreciate your business
Since my last review I have been back twice. This last time was after church on Sunday. We were starving and we needed food immediately, we were on the brink of death. Just KIDING. Anyway I should have taken photos. This statement can be good or bad, in this case it is the latter.
My 5 year old ordered the sliders which she loved. My other daughter (11), husband and myself decided on the fish n chips. BIG mistake, in my opinion and everyone else's  at the table. First, the waiter should have clued in on the serving size was way too big for a young lady. There was 4 big pieces of fish we could have shared. Which really pissed me off because my first thought was not being a good waiter and was plumping the bill. The fish was I swear dipped in Bisquick. I am not joking it had a pancake taste and feel to it. Not to mention that it was way to much batter. I had to dig out my fish with my fork and to boot the tarter sauce was not good. Gross we  did not send it back, but we left knowing that we won't be back not even for the Guinness...so sad for us but they are not the only joint that serves a good pour.
Service was not great we kept looking for our waitress that we love. If I think about it we like her so much that we have overlooked the quality of food because her service is awesome and the Guinness is perfect. Â Since his service was not so good the food really stood out to us for what is was.
NOT consistent or appetizing. I wish I would have Yelped my other not so good experiences. So you could see the decline, but honestly I get tired of Yelping not so good places. I like to focus on the good Yelps.
I like Irish pubs and my last experience (Owl and Thistle, downtown) was less than pleasant, so I was looking for something to wipe the slate clean. Â Enter JJ Mahoney's, which I heard about from my parents. Â Who need Yelp accounts. Â (Yeah, mom, I called you guys out on it.)
Seat yourself and the staff will come around with menus. Â A good selection of beers and a small handful of wines, including a wine from a winery that I don't usually see on this side of the mountains (Hard Row to Hoe). Â Of note, their sliders contain bacon, which makes them some of the best sliders I've found.
Good atmosphere and if you spend ten bucks or more, they'll sell you a discounted movie ticket. Â For the movie theater right next door. Â Can't really beat that.
I'll be back to this neat little place. Â Very cozy, very pleasant, very friendly. Â And bacon on the sliders!!! Â I mean, really.
Big fan of JJ's. Â The atmosphere is very laid back and the food is great. Â And that is pretty much all I ask for in a pub. Â I think a lot of places can't get that right, but at JJ's, they do it perfectly. Â
The place itself is well kept, and TVs are in great locations to watch, but not overpowering the overall experience. Â
Great place!
I stopped in with a friend before catching a movie next door.
It was pretty empty when we got there, service was quick to take the order. We both had the guiness onion soup which was yummy, the dubliner sandwich was also good. Soup came out quick but the sandwiches took a bit longer. I wasn't in the mood for fries but once they arrived I had to try them - also yummy!
We had to find the waitress to pay the bill, but other then that I have no complaints. Bonus, Sunday is all day happy hour so I had soup and a sandwich for $9.
Now I know why my husband and his friends always meet there before movies, though he says they serve the beer Irish style - warm!
Our favourite Friday night boozer in Redmond. Â Guinness is kept really well. Â Wife says wine choice isn't 1/2 bad too...
Food is good pub grub, reasonable price. Â Sells discounted Movie Tickets too. Â Handy for a quick beer and movie after. Â Staff are pretty friendly - more so with time. Â
Lots of choice for seating, stools and high tables at the bar, large 6+ booths, even a few team-size 10+ tables for larger groups, in between tables for 2 and 4. Â Patio is good during summer. Â Gets pretty busy on Fri/Sat evenings - worth arriving earlier.
Usually has US and European sports on throughout the day including Rugby and Soccer. Â Perfect place to hangout if you can't make it to see the Sounders.
Now I may be a bit biased for two reasons, first I work in the same strip mall at a store which I have been going to since before they where even here. And second, because I started my 21 here. Myself and about 10 friends of mine walked at midnight on a mon-tue, they normally close at 12 but stayed open till 1 so my friends could pour several shots of liquor down my throat.
Now I think of them as a bit on the pricey side, but mostly cause I'm a poor bastard, they aren't too different from say red robin, but much better service and food IMO. I normally get a JJ burger which is decent, and their fries are seasoned deliciously. They have several TVs mounted, where I expect to watch a couple Olympic football matches. I also love their encouragement of drunken chess(a personal past time) with a row of tables in the back with a board embedded and pieces hanging in a Crown Royal bag.
Meh.
It's too small yet not intimate enough. Â The food is average and the atmosphere is very strip mall. Â
There was nothing offensive about this place, but also nothing memorable. Â Nothing that would make me hurry back. Â Go next door to Typhoon and you'll have a much better dining experience.
Three words.

?!!!!!
This place is ridiculous. Â We stopped in for a late dinner, around 10:00PM on Tuesday. Â Yes, I realize we are in Redmond, and it's Tuesday, but this place was supposed to be a pub or something...? Â And we'd had a couple semi-decent lunches there. Â Never, ever attempt to eat at this place at night. Â Just don't. Â
The waitress was incredibly rude. Â Really. Â Unapologetically pissy. Â She came over and announced that we were limited to the Happy Hour menu. Â ??? Â OK... we checked it out, and it was a sad little list. Â You know you're screwed when chips and salsa is one of 10 menu items. Â I'm pretty sure Wendy's has a better selection. Â I thought well, at least the food will probably taste somewhat OK...so let's just gut it out.
Bad, bad call. Â My husband asked for a pilsner, and asked for the waitress to recommend something. Â No pilsner, and she was "not a fan of the beers, in general." Â He pointed to a nearby table and asked what some others were drinking. Â She didn't know. Â She didn't even attempt to find out. Â She said, "...probably...Harp's?????" Â Since when does the waitress at an IRISH PUB NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BEER? Â Are you freaking kidding me right now???
I ordered the calamari and a house salad. Â Normally, this would have been a fair choice. Â No. Â The calamari was overdone and tasted like something it came out of a Costco freezer case about 10 years ago. Â My salad was even sadder, with huge pieces of green leaf lettuce (nothing high end, of course), and the most GHETTO white-bread teeny cube croutons I've ever seen. Â My grade school cafeteria had better croutons, for Christ's sake.
My husband's chicken strips and onion rings = ditto on the Costco frozen food action...
A beer (we're not sure what it was), chicken strips, a couple sad onion rings, calamari and white trash salad, a diet coke...just guess how much the bill came to. Â $30. Â I shit you not. Â My husband almost started laughing when he saw that. Â Worst value, food, and service we've had in a long, long time. Â Never again.
This place feels like an Irish pub stuck in a strip mall. Which it is. Wanted to go to another restaurant, but with line out the door, we settled here since we were starving. It was pretty packed in here, so thought it was kinda a good sign. I wanted chowder, they were out. So I compromised and got the french onion soup and some potato skins.
The potato skins were as bland as bland could be! Bacon, cheese, green onions... with side of sour cream, and yet NO flavor. I dipped them in my date's ketchup! didn't help. He tried one and said it tasted like dirt. He got the chicken sandwich which looked pretty good. I wasn't wowed and I know there are way better Irish Pubs around.
The wife and I went to JJ Mahoney's in Redmond Bella Botegga last night at about 5:45, planning on attending a 6:30 movie - not too worried if we showed up at about 6:40 or 6:45 for the movie as we would miss the previews. Â We seated ourselves. Â The waitress finally took our order at about 6:00. Â We got our drinks shortly thereafter - $4.00 for a 16 oz premium beer is not cheap but not excessive either. Â The problem was, the waitress never brought us our food! Â We saw three tables that arrived after us get served before us. Â Our order was not complicated - my wife ordered a cobb salad and I ordered a cheeseburger with no pickles. Â I had no cash, so at 6:30 I gave the waitress my credit card and said we needed to pay and leave to make our movie (which we already had purchased tickets for). Â At 6:40, the waitress returned with my credit card.
This is easily the worst service I have ever received in any restaurant. Â I will not ever be returning. Â There are far too many good places around Redmond and Seattle. Â In Bella Botegga, there is the Coho Cafe, and there is also a Thai restaurant and (I believe) a Vietnamese restaurant. Â Avoid this place like the plague.
EDIT (5/12/08): Gave this place a second chance at the request of new management (kudos to the new management for caring about the service level in the restaurant enough to reach out to a reviewer from a web site like this). Â Took the wife here last Friday evening for desert and drinks. Â Service was much better this time. Â The place was reasonably busy but not bad, we were able to come right in and find a seat at about 9:00 pm on a Friday night. Â The music is a mix of popular Irish (think U2) and traditional Irish folk music, which I dig. Â The beer selection is decent, they also have a wine menu. Â Four bucks for a 16 oz premium brew on a Friday night is not bad. Â The desert was excellent.
I still don't think this is a great place for a dinner outing, as the music is a bit loud for dinner conversation and the food menu is unspectacular. Â But this is not a bad place to go to watch a game (there are plasma screens both behind the bar and up in a corner behind some of the tables), or just to grab a couple of drinks for happy hour or before a movie at Bella Botegga cinema.
The one and only time I went to JJ Mahoney's I found a very large shard of glass at the bottom of my glass of beer.
The bartender just shrugged . . . and showed it to another waitress.
No apologies.
If they don't lose customers because of their crappy wait staff, they will lose them by killing them off with shards of glass down the throat.
