As of the date of this review, this place is closed ... for now. Â There are "closed for business" signs all over the front of the place. Â I've got a feeling they'll be back though, but we'll see.
Anyway, this place is a small, seedy dive bar that's really better known for the shows that are put on by the local bands than the place itself. Â I've been here a few times over the years while visiting friends in the area.
The crowd is primarily La Mesa locals. Â I've seen a few minor skirmishes break-out here and there, which I mostly attribute to the mix of alcohol and the tight quarters. Â Overall though it's not a rough place.
This is definitely a 2 star place most of the time, and maybe a 3 star place when some of the local bands are playing. Â I don't really see any reason to go out of your way for this place unless you live nearby or you're specifically seeing a show there (that is, if they ever re-open).
This dimly lit hole in the wall is a La Mesa classic. Â This place is tiny. Â I mean really tiny...as in big enough for the bar and that's about it. Â They have some decent beer on draft at reasonable prices. Â The bathrooms are on the skank side. They have a small stage up front and a small patio out back.
This place really goes off during October Fest.  The place is packed with a bunch of people who don't want to pay the exorbitant prices of the beer garden.  One year we were standing on the patio and this balding guy in a cowboy hat and  black leather jacket with long fringe came up to my brother-in-law and asked him if he had any coke.  The dumb ass then proceeded to bump into everyone getting his sassy leather jacket doused in beer...good times
