John Barleycorns

This is not one of those great local businesses. Let it be know that I really appreciate McMenamins establishments. I have chosen to give this restaurant a rating of one for the experience i had there tonight. I was eating in the outdoor seating area with my pregnant wife and my neighbor along with her two kids. Right after we place our the couple that was sitting next to us decided to light up to cigars and smoke them in the outdoor seating area. This affected everyone at our table in a negative way along with the many other people enjoying the outdoor seating area that is in this restaurant. I then went to talked to my server about the issue and the rudeness that came from her following my concern sealed the ranking of one. This is a family restaurant and they should not allow smoking in this outdoor area. Shame on McMenamins for allowing people to smoke in this outdoor area. My family and the family that was eating with us will not be eating there again until they make that outdoor area completely non-smoking.

Lacking the charm and attractions of other McMenamins, such as Kennedy School and Edgefield (e.g. historic venue, theater, multiple bars), but a solid lunch spot nonetheless. Best if your work lends itself to a lunchtime pint. Nice outdoor patio, insulated from the road/freeway by ample vegetation.

I'm giving this update because I gave this business another shot.  I had the House special steak sandwich with salad.  The bun was toasted perfectly and the steak was tender and tasty.  We were seated right away and the service was great.  I wasn't disappointed.
