John Wayne's Pub & Eatery

We haven't been here for a couple of years. I had heard about their fried chicken and oh man, they used to have some awesome fried chicken. And, decent burgers & tenderloins. But the place was always such a smoky mess. Anyway, we decided to give it a try last night since the smoking ban is now in effect.  The place is even more filthy now, sans the smoke in the air, the food has gone way downhill, and the clientele is the same redneck hilljacks but now they're all loud & angry & belligerent about the fact that they cannot smoke inside anymore. My husband had to use the mens room (unfortunately) and said it was the dirtiest, pee-stinkiest bathroom that he's ever used. This isn't a dive bar. It's just a crap bar. But, our waitress was very friendly & attentive. 5 stars to her.

This place has been here a long time and it shows. I think some of the bartenders and regulars actually went to school with the The Duke. They aren't always that friendly to outsiders.

I've seen some fun bands here over the years, but there are certainly other bars in the area with better food, drink specials, and a more welcoming crowd.
