Went today based on the reviews. Â Enjoyed my burger and the onion rings. Â I like that they will serve a medium cooked burger. Â My mates enjoyed their food as well.
The tea was weak and tasted old. Â
Service is what cost them. Â We had did not know who our server was as several people brought things to the table. Â None of them were that friendly nor welcoming.
I wish I would have noticed the specials board as it would have saved me a couple of bucks.
Glad to see there is more to Round Rock than what is right on I-35.
Finally! A local place with music, good food, good service, and good atmosphere. A little bit of Austin in downtown Round Rock. Tonight was our first visit of many to come. There was live music inside and outside, but the patio was packed so we sat near the inside bar. Cozy, but fun. Don't expect a healthy selection of food, but healthy or not, the burgers, onion rings, and chips were yummy! Stick to beer unless you want to pay top dollar for top shelf drinks. I don't recommend their well drinks.
Review Source:I used to love going to this place, always had good music outside, and pretty decent food. They have a no smoking policy inside which is fine, but they recently wrote in no e-cigs on that no smoking sign. I just can't understand the mentality behind that and absolutely refuse to spend my money and time in a place that will not allow e-cig use inside. To me it just shows lack of understanding or caring about what it is that they are banning. There's just no legitimate reason to not allow it. Guess I'll be going down the street from now on. Quinns, Krave and Mainstreet Grill are all ok with e-cig use.
Review Source:I had heard great things about this place. To be exact, good burgers, good service and decent mixed drinks (although weak). This is what I was expecting. Nothing fancy.
And that was pretty true except the service wasn't good. It was downright dreadful.
Our waiter seated us, took our order and hurried away. He returned but had brought the wrong beer for my friend. No big deal. He also asked how we were splitting the check and I made it clear I was separate.
Then the food comes. Again, my friends order was messed up. She asked for pepper jack cheese and her side to be chips and salsa. But she got Swiss and onion rings. She immediately told the woman who brought the food that she ordered the chips, not the onion rings. I was taken aback when the server responded "I know the ticket said onion rings... But I'll bring u the chips." Was that comment necessary? I was there. She did In fact ask for chips. Did it occur to this woman the waiter recorded the order wrong? Leave your attitude at the door.
So what about the food? Meh
My teriyaki burger tasted like any ol' burger. The patty tasted fine but I thought it was supposed to have some teriyaki flavor. The caesar salad was fine but I didn't think justified the $2 up charge. But the waiter told us there's no price for just the burger. And I wasnt interested in the other sides.
From that moment on, our waiter was MIA. It was pretty warm and I wanted a water and another mixed drink. We were able to completely finish our food and sit and sit and sit there... Food finished and thirsty. Our one friend finished his whole pitcher of beer In all the time we had to sit there. In that time, no one checked on us.
Frankly, we were losing patience. There was definitely a good crowd of people there but tables who had been seated after us had seen their server so many times and were already out the door. Finally, I stopped a woman and told her I wanted a drink. It was fast, I appreciated that. But again, we sat there. If we had been properly served, we would have definitely added more drinks to our tab. But by the end, we were annoyed.
Finally our original waiter returns and we want a check to get out of there. He promptly returns and my check isn't separate. I was pretty pissed but just wanted out of there. I wanted some freaking water. I paid it. I was planning to leave something for the woman who helped me but I didn't want this guy to have it since he magically decided to show up. How convenient.
I don't think this experience was normal for the time we were there. Other tables were served flawlessly. We watched them! But after looking at some of the reviews, this appears to have happened before. Perhaps there is a lack of communication over who has ownership of what tables. Or perhaps there is one bad apple in the bunch. But this was a train wreck. Even as a resident of round rock, I don't have any intention of returning.
After hearing highly of this place from our banker about how great the burgers were we decided to try it out for lunch and we were not dissapointed! The atmosphere was very low key and laid back and wasn't very busy since it was about 1:00 in the afternoon on a Monday. There is an outdoor patio it seems like there is always a live band performing.I got the lunch special which was the mushroom swiss burger and onion rings for roughing 6 bucks and my other half got...well i forgot the name of it but it had shredded cheddar and onion rings on it. Lunch was about 18 bucks and after looking through the drink menu it seemed like they had very good deals for happy hour(2-7) also. We definately will be back with more company to enjoy this little piece of Round Rock.
Review Source:We love this place. It was the first place we discovered that felt like home when we moved to Texas. The staff is so good. They remember you and know what you want but always double-check and let you know if they have something new to try. Great selection of mostly local draft beers and the crew can mix a drink to please. Yummy Bloody Marys. The food is high quality for pub grub. Their hamburgers are top notch. Hubby loves bacon cheeseburgers and I alternate amongst the choices but love the guac burger. They always sub pickle chips for me instead of fries BUT their fries are good too! Â We love their nachos or queso too. We love this place!
Review Source:On my second jaunt down to Austin, I went to Juniors on the recommendation of my friend's mom. I love the part of town it's located in. Downtown Round Rock is really picturesque! I went in, and it wasn't busy much, but perhaps it was because there may have been people out on the patio.
It took a bit more time than I would have liked for someone to come and take our drink orders, but someone did finally come, and we went ahead and ordered our food. I chose the bacon cheeseburger with shoestring fries, and my friend went with the pulled pork sandwich. That burger was damn tasty! It looked like at least a half-pound, which was great, since I was famished! I liked that the cheese was shredded, as opposed to sliced, too. I really enjoyed the fries, too, and the steak ones are yummy, too. Got to try one off my friend's plate!
I really enjoyed my visit here, and I will put this one on my Austin/Round Rock rotation for sure.
(3.5 really) Service was decent our waiter explained what we needed. Ordered the appetizer fried pickles (I usually am not a fan but I tried it due to it was pickle chips not spears). Pretty dang good!. Next for the meal we shared the Reality sandwich ( could use some sauce so I added some of the BBQ? Ranch that was served with the pickles). They were kind enough to cut and portion out our plates for us. As for drinks draft is the way to go, I really liked how they serve local brew (especially IPA's ). Washing up in the bathrooms were a little dirty at the time but it could be the colors, and maybe a unpleasant guest. Pricing was decent 2 beers 1 appetizer and 1 sandwich for under $22.
Review Source:I went there to kill some time before meeting up with friends for BBQ.
I must say this place has it's charm:
- enjoyed live music in the back patio
- laid back and easy going wait staff and bartenders
- good tasting beer choices (although limited)
- fun crowd of Texans
It really is a dive bar that does not carry much class but charming to say the least. Â I will try their food next time definitely.
We went today for burgers based on the YELP! Reviews. Â I got a mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings and my table mate got the guacamole burger with steak fries. Â We shared bites and both agreed that we haven't had better burgers in the Austin area. Â I didn't think I was hungry, but I wolfed the food down in record time. Â We agreed that we owed it to ourselves to come back to try different things on the menu, but I can't imagine anything being better than the burgers. Â My burger patty was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Â The grilled onions and mushrooms were perfect accompaniments, and I was reminded of the burgers my Mom made at home when I was growing up.
We would like this place just as much even if the guy with the kerchief behind the bar wasn't really hot. Â (Sorry, but I had to put that in.)
What a disappointment! Went to check the place out because of all the great reviews - big mistake. We weren't expecting fine dining but it sounded fun. Service was practically non-existent and when a server finally showed up he demanded to hold a credit card at the bar - what? Said they get too busy to track tabs (we later had to get through two other people before finally getting our bill and card back, and the place wasn't That busy). Â When drinks arrived my glass was plastic and dirty - hope the alcohol killed any germs that might have been lingering.
We had planned to order dinner and enjoy the live music but left as soon as we could. Needless to say we won't be back any time soon.
Onion rings were perfect. Just came out for some appetizers and beer. My friend ordered chips and salsa. The chips were too salty but I rubbed that off to dip them in the wonderfully fresh salsa. I stayed with the appetizer theme with the onion rings which were served with a runny ranch and some sort of smoky sauce. I liked both sauces. And like i said up front...the rings were perfect, thick, and not at all pungent or bitter. She had the chef salad which was very good. I'd order all this stuff again. BUT, when we come back I really want to try one of the 'best burgers in Round Rock'.
The little group playing music inside was pretty loud and made it impossible to converse, but the music was good. Conversation wasn't part of any agenda anyhow, once we saw the TVs with the Spurs playoff game on.
Love the happy hour here (til 7pm on weekdays). My office is nearby and nothing beats enjoying a cold beer on their back patio after a long day at work. Sometimes they have live music which can get a little loud, but you can always sit inside. Friendly bartenders and laidback atmosphere will keep me coming back. And the parking garage is a 45 second walk away!
My one gripe is the one-person bathrooms. I wish they could just add one more ladies room...I think we females woud really appreciate it!
Junior's advertises the best burger in Round Rock and makes me think about a Doug Stanhope bit about being the prettiest Denny's waitress. Why not stop in?
The bar is nice, small, quaint much like downtown Round Rock. I felt comfortable and the crowd is nice. There were good beers on tap the staff was nice and now, onto the burger.
I was given a choice of steak fries, always a nice option. I like fries that hold more ketchup so I usually choose them. The burger was good, mind blowing? No but I didn't expect it to be. I'd eat here again but best burger in Round Rock? I think the Round Rock Cafe has the best burger I've had in the area.
They're not open at night. :P I'll stop into Juniors again, the place does ok.
Decent place, and I plan to go back here in the future, when they have some music if possible.
I've been here before for a burger, which was great but there are so many good burgers in the area that a great burger is just an introduction. What happens next determines how interesting it's going to be.
Lately I've been on a fried pickle kick, and Junior's was recommended, so I swung by there tonight.
I think they fried a whole jar of pickles.
I mean... they're great don't get me wrong... sliced into thin chips, lightly battered, seasoned salted and served with ranch and creamy chipotle BBQ sauce. They're my favorite fried pickles, or at least the first few were.
But this is too big of an order for one person to consume on one's own. I ate maybe half of the (delicious) order. This was too much. My advice: don't try to finish an order of these unless you have 3 or 4 pickle-munchers on hand. I tried to share some with the jovial Round-Rock resident next to me, but he was more interested in watching the NCAA tourney on the 3 TV's inside, talking sports and telling jokes. ("How is a fat white chick like a brick?")
For the rest of the place, I was really pleased to find that they have an entire outdoor seating / live music venue in the back. And tucked into another little door was a game room, with foosball and pool... pretty fun.
I wasn't really blown away by the service. I don't know what it was ... it could've been the crowd or maybe I didn't tip heavily enough in advance or something. You'd think an order of pickles would be pretty hard to serve poorly (and it wasn't *that* bad) but when I was ready to leave I spent more time trying to get some attention to close out my ticket than I did actually ordering, waiting for, and eating my pickles.
I have been meaning to update my previous low star review. Â This place is really really good now! Â They changed owners and probably cooks. I have eaten here about 3 times in the last month and the food has been consistently great. Â The service is good as well. Â This is my new favorite "gourmet" burger dive other than Fuddruckers! Â I really like that it's a local small business so I would give them my $ over Fuddruckers. Â They have great hand made onion rings too!
Juniors - if you would only have that fake cheese sauce as an option with your fries that Fuddruckers offers, I would never have to go back there - ever!
Atmosphere and Cleanliness : Clean and inviting. Â
Service: Service was a bit slow to start with, but once the flash went off it got a little better. The whole staff takes care of all the tables, which is good in my opinion.
Food: The wife and I both had burgers, and I have to say the burger to bun ratio was probably the best yet...the burger was huge. Wife had a Bacon cheese burger with fries and the fries were superb. Had to be fresh cut. My self, I had the Angry Matt with onion rings. A burger with bacon, blue cheese, grilled mushrooms and onions...Love the fact that they use quality Bacon...only problem, a bit under cooked...bacon need to be crispy for a better bit thru...my bacon was gone about half way thru the meal...I got the Onions rings based on Yelp reviews...Sorry...Looked great...great crunch, but zero flavor...not even onion flavor...
Worth the Adventure: As our adventures continues and with so many options, we probably wont be back...BUT Â if you want a great burger and fries, I really recommend this place..
A Monday night dinner in the Round Rock / Pflugerville area. Â My friend came to take me out to dinner and I thought we would try something new. Â I love this little 'Old Town' area of Round Rock. Â There are some surprising places on this street. Â
We managed to catch the happy hour, which ends at 7. Â Half price Queso and chips and some fried pickles? Â Yes please. Â The queso dip is a white cheese with green chile. Â It was really good. Â But the fried pickles were amazing! Â Slices, not spears, and so crispy! Â Fried pickles usually seem floppy to me at most places. Â The batter was really nice and light and they'd been dusted with a spice of some kind. Â Cajun maybe? Â I'm not a ranch fan but it came with an additional dip with a smoky flavor to it. Â Â
We sat inside at a high table - it was about 60% full with a blended crowd of people in their early to mid thirties and some older couples. Â
At the waiter's suggestion we got a pitcher of Thirsty Goat Amber which was a nice light refreshing beer for the appetizers. Â We had three people checking on us and they were all really nice. Â The crowd was an interesting mix
The burgers were a little on the expensive side - but really tasty and pretty big. Â I couldn't possibly finish and had to bring it home. The thinner 'homestyle' fries were really really good and the onion rings were huge and tasty.
They have live music every night. Â We had to make an early night of it and were just leaving when the lady with her guitar started her nice cover of "Goin' to California." Â It was a chilly night so they'd set her up inside. Â
I could definitely see this as a northern alternative for nights out with beers and friends!
Came in at 1:40pm with my wife and three of my kids. Â The main dining area including the bar was at about 15% capacity. Â This place isn't really good for children, but considering it was almost empty, it didn't really have an impact. Â They do have high chairs, so that issue was resolved painlessly. Â I definitely would not bring small children here during peak times.
Waitress was friendly and responsive. Â Food came out really fast. Â They have steak fries, which I love. Â I had the bacon cheeseburger, which was pretty good, although the pepper jack cheese didn't really cut through. Â Burger was reasonably priced for lunch. Â The drinks though are $1.85, which I think is robbery, and really the only reason I'm not giving Junior's five stars. Â Everybody left full and happy.
Accidentally tipped the waitress 25%.
Being a resident of Round Rock, I love to give props to local businesses. Â This one was...pretty good. Â Just OK.
I have driven/walked by Juniors many times and thought "we should try that place." It was on the occasion of my friend's birthday last night that I finally did so.
I arrived around 7:40 pm Saturday night and the (small) inside was packed. It's one of those places where when you walk in, it feels like everyone is looking at you which I don't like so much. (Or maybe it's just my paranoia.)
My party was already sitting at one of the many long picnic tables on the large patio out back in the 104 degree heat. Â I guess I can't blame Juniors for the Texas summer, but get some fans with misters. Damn.
I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which came with chips/salsa. Â The sandwich was better than I expected, but I thought the salsa was a little flavorless. Â Side note---everyone else at the table RAVED about the salsa, so this might just be me. Â A friend ordered fried pickles and other reviews I read are right--they are perfect. Â I also really enjoyed their ranch dressing. Â It tasted homemade, and I appreciate that.
This place is more a BAR than a grill. Â I can't quite put my finger on the vibe here, though. Â I guess because there are picnic tables outside, everyone is kind of slouched over and drinking. They could have all just been miserable from the heat. Â It was kind of an assortment of people here as well. People of all ages.
I thought the service was about as good as could be expected when you have a giant patio and only three waitresses/bartenders.
Would I go back? Â Hmmmm. Â If a friend was DYING to go, I would probably tag along, but not on my own volition.
So, it's my understanding that Junior's makes up 50% of downtown RR's nightlife. Awesome...This place is huge! Don't let the narrow storefront and front bar/dining room fool you. Step out the back door and say hello to a sizable patio with a stage at the far end. There is a well stocked bar and a number of picnic tables, as well. Glance to the right and a door leads to another room. I didn't cross the threshold, but from my vantage point, I could see pool tables. There was live music. Cool...but a little loud. We made our way back inside so we could conversate. A handful of beers on tap, including my new fave...Moose Drool...and a standard selection of spirits.
I spied a lot of food coming out of the kitchen. Perusing the menu, I saw a number of items that sounded appealing. I wasn't hungry, but I plan on heading back and trying out some of the food, especially after reading the favorable food reviews.
I never really think of heading North to have a few drinks, but found Junior's to be a nice change of pace from the hustle of downtown, East or South Austin. Added bonus...not a hipster in sight...
They have live local music every single night, seriously. And no cover. It is located in Round Rock's downtown district and this area is ADORABLE. If you've never been here I suggest you walk around and check it out. Its the old timey downtown feel. Lots of local charm. I almost forget Round Rock is huge now (90,000-100,000 people). I first went here in January to see a friend of mine play an acoustic set. I even enjoy myself when I'm not drinking because there is plenty to entertain you. Like entertaining your mouth with a juicy 1/2lb. burger. Since I've only come on week nights its pretty chill.
-The patio outside is huge for indoor or outdoor performances
-Pool tables & video games in the game room
-Big screen TVs with sports always on
-One giant projection screen TV
-Free wi-fi...yes!
-Good food, better than you would expect from a bar!
-Diverse, friendly crowd
If I lived in RR or further north I'd be coming here a lot more.
This is a really cool, casual place to eat at in downtown Round Rock. Â Last time I ate there, I had a pulled pork sandwich and fries, and both were decent. Â I would like to try their burgers, fried pickles, and white queso since they all sound and look pretty good.
The thing that I like the most about Junior's is the back patio and bar area. Â The times that we've gone, there was a live band playing and kids with their parents. Â It's a good place for parents to grab a beer and have a bite to eat without having to take the kid to the babysitter. Â
Their prices are pretty good and the waitresses have always been friendly and attentive. Â We will definitely go back again soon.
Juniors is a great neighborhood spot. One does not expect much based upon the entrance but lo and behold; when one enters he can see a backdoor to a large outdoor seating area with a stage and beyond that, another building housing a billiards room with video games and a juke box.
Yes it sometimes takes awhile to get the food and for good reason. Most of it is hand cut (fries), Hand battered, hand pattied (burgers). Trust me, it is surprisingly worth the wait.
The service has always been friendly and served with a smile. It might take a minute or two, but they will get to you. This is a neighborhood bar, have a beer, relax and let it roll on over to your turn.
Sometimes the music can be hit or miss, but that is just personal taste. They have been quality musicians. Great place to relax. The crowd has usually been mixed, laid back and be prepared to talk to strangers. It can be a friendly bunch.
A cool thing is that on many occasions you will typically see entire families there (including kids) eating, having a brew (not the kids) and listening to music. Really a great vibe to the place.
I recommend checking this place out.
My only bitch has little to do with Juniors and a lot to do with a Round Rock ordinance that will not let this place stay open till 200. Then again, I am not sure I want to be leaving a bar in Wilco at 200 am unless it is by cab.
You should have been better. Actually if your server cared, you would have scored better.
I came in on a business meeting on a Friday afternoon for lunch. This small little downtown destination inside the heart of Round Rock appears from the outside to a small pit stop for some of the locals. They advertise bands on the front door, the have a separate area with a few pool tables and 2 jukeboxes. What they don't have... apparently a server who cared to take care of us in a timely manner working that shift.
The restaurant doesnt hold many people at all. I would guess maybe 40 standing room only inside and they have a patio in the back outdoors that has a mini stage on it. Inside and outside both had a bar which had a few local beers "Widemer and Fireman's #4"..... We sat down and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. We also ordered a basket of fried pickles ahead of time. It was obvious that everything was hand made but it took a really long time for anything to come out. And when they did bring our food out... they forgot napkins so I had to get them myself. Our waitress was really slow on the punch and never really checked on us.
For a Friday, this place was not packed which it should have been for lunch in an area so close to Dell. I think maybe if this is the normal speed here, locals dont eat lunch here because it takes longer than their lunch break will allow. The food, however was really good. I really enjoyed my burger.
When we asked the bartender on our way out who was playing tonight.... she told us she didnt know and for anything music related to look online. If you have it posted on your door... write it down, or tell someone to look at the door. You cant get repeat customers by being snotty and telling me to look online for something you should know....
I'd really have to think about going back though. It wasn't worth the attitude.
Downtown Round Rock is too cute. Suprise suprise.
Went here a couple weeks ago to see a friend play guitar. Tiny "stage" area (inside), but nice for viewing/listening. Good happy hour, but the website was different than the bar - might want to call and check.
Pitchers of Shiner were cheap and cold. My burger had some amazing hickory sauce on it (into which I also dipped my shoestring fries).
Huge patio out back - looking forward to visiting again when it's warm.
PS. I did visit again 4/21, sat outside, it was great. As was my chicken fried steak sandwhich with jalepenos/cheese AND spicy queso for dipping in in. holy heart attack!
Note there are no dogs allowed, and the website is indeed wrong (fooled again, rats!) Happy hour ends at 6pm.
I've been here twice - both times I got the burger. Â It's a decent burger, but damn the service was non-existent. Â I had to go to the bar for a refill of my drink, and I had to go to the waitress with my wallet in my hand asking what I owed her. Â Now, I'm a patient guy - but I'd been done eating for 15 minutes, my glass was empty, and she was just wiping down menus and watching TV. Â Did I mention I was the only one in the place? Â It's not like she was busy... Â There were even dirty tables all over the place.
Bottom Line - food was okay, but they lost a star for service. Â Don't go if you are in a hurry. Â By the time you get the check you might be ready for your next meal.
I went here for lunch today and despite the slowwwww service it was pretty good.
The burgers where homemade ...by the barmaid...that's why it was slow...
Possibly because there was a sign on the door that said "Now Hiring Cooks"! Â She was a stand in cook it must be....but the burgers where fresh and juicy and the buns where toasted...in butter I think.
The onion rings where OK but a little greasy. I had my burger with avocado on it and it was yummy. Â
My friend got Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich...oh my gosh the steak was 2X's as big as the bun. Â He loved it. Â
I highly suggest going here for lunch. Â They have a complete bar but I was on work lunch so no drinking going on here. Â I like the atmosphere (bar..greasy spoon....but good food ). Â Make sure you have at least 1 1/2 hours for lunch....until you no longer see the "Now Hiring Cooks" Â sign on the door.
First off, I never realized how tasty fried pickles and white queso are together [two separate appetizers on the menu]. Â
Junior's serves up some hearty burgers. Â Their patties are properly cooked to order, and the fries/onion rings/homemade chips are hot out off the fryer.
They have a back patio with a full bar and stage. Â I've never been here when a band is playing, but it seems like a nice venue for locals.
Not a bad place for lunch while passing through Round Rock.
