The boyfriend and I had an insatiable craving for elk or buffalo burgers while in Manitou Springs, and after much googling and Yelp review perusing headed over to The Keg. First impression: an extensive collection of police/firemen patches all over the walls reminded us of our favorite bar/home-away-from-home. Upon discovering free and fast wifi as well as reasonably priced beer we were ecstatic. The waitress was incredibly friendly and the service was fast, and the craved buffalo burgers (in the BF's words) were "freakin awesome." We didn't mind at all that the burgers came with chips instead of fries; we were so full from those we couldn't even eat the chips. All in all, a nice, pretension-free divey bar with yummy food.
Review Source:I used to enjoy the chicken dinner with artichokes and cheese but they've changed it to a chicken that is blah. Â We used to enjoy the burgers but now they are so thick, like that's supposed to make them good? Â And greasy. Â The cheese bread is dry and the spinach dip is cold . . . Very disappointing. Â It used to be a good place for food but the quality has gone down hill over the last year or two.
Review Source:Delicious buffalo burgers. Great selection of local beers on tap. Fun place. We sat a high table at the bar and had a wonderful time chatting (they won't kick you out - unlike manhattan bars :)). p.s. they say their berry salad is good, but I did not think it was anything special. You may be better of just trying to something different.
Review Source:I'm from Chicago and LOVED the Keg Lounge. What a fun little inexpensive place! They didn't have a zillion beers on the menu, but they did have a nice selection of craft beers on tap. Their buffalo burger is truly excellent! Matt, the bartender, was sweet and funny and had great recommendations for good places for us to visit while we were in the area. Locals were friendly. I will definitely stop back to visit if I am ever in the area again. Thanks!
Review Source:Somewhat disappointing. Â Our guide book called this one of the top three restaurants in town. Â Well, either they didn't really do any research or there's not much to eat in Manitou Springs. Â The server was friendly but the food took some time. Â The cheese steak wasn't very good and had an odd sour taste. Â The "famous berry salad" was pretty good except the dressing was way too sweet - almost like a dessert. Â The patty melt wasn't bad but wasn't anything to write home about. Â We'll keep looking in Manitou Springs for something better.
Review Source:Fun little hole in the wall. Â It's definitely a nice "off the beaten path" bar to hit up with some friends on a random Thursday. Â It has the ambiance of an old Irish Pub, with a quick and friendly staff.
I can't really speak for the food as I haven't ever eaten there, but everything looks like your typical bar fare. Â Nothing impressive and nothing that stood out as being not edible. Â
I'd recommend it and might even start becoming a regular. Â I like how friendly the bartenders are and the patrons all seem to be pretty nice and on the up and up.
Casual bar if you are looking for a place to grab a burger and watch sports.
Skip the famous cheese bread. What a rip off.
The bartender was really cool even though we weren't drinking (there were no seats we had to sit at the bar)
I got the buffalo burger on his recommendation. It was good, but I'm sad it comes with bagged chips instead of fries.
This is one of our favorite places to come to for dinner. Â Their beef is from Ranch Foods Direct (free-range, grass-fed until the end when they feed them grain) and always cooked perfectly. Â You HAVE to get the flatiron steak medium-rare with the grilled mushrooms on top, I get it almost every time I go there. Â We also frequently get the berry salad or a burger. Â The broccoli that is served with the steak is also perfectly cooked. Â I really don't know why people have commented that they are over-priced, I think they are a little under-priced considering they pay more for their local, free-range meat. Â Especially on Wednesdays when you can get 2 dinners for $22, what a steal for the best steak you will ever have in your life! Â Go there, please, and get the flatiron. Â And get Barb as your server, she is exceptional.
Review Source:We've ate here 2 different times. First time wife liked it, but I got 12 hour bug and this was the one place I ate at, coincidence, maybe. Second time both meals were poor, cheese burger was dry with little flavor and my wife did not like her cheese steak.
Probably hit or miss as this place, as it is very popular. But, we won't be back.
To try the buffalo burger or not to try the buffalo burger?!?! Â I went back and forth for a bit and figured well I'm in CO (from Chicago visiting for Thanksgiving) AND they say they have THE best buffalo burger...why wouldn't I try it?? So try it I did! Holy crap this thing is delish! I had mine with swiss and bacon (a great addition). Â The burger is so juicy, so good, so large, so perfect! The chips on the side, ehhh, whatever, but I wasn't there for the chips so who cares.
The day I was there (the day after Thanksgiving) was super crowded, but I understand how touristy this area is and I get that they were so busy. The servers are very sweet and pretty quick...the bartender was kinda bitchy (again, I understand because of how busy it was but, be nice lady). The keg isn't a pretty place, it's a burger joint with a couple of TV's, a bathroom that scorches your hands when you wash them, and a lot of beer. I like places like that.
We sat outside and enjoyed our time!! Our food was delicious
, I ate an amazing big quesadilla and the atmosphere was great. There are only 2 tables outside along the sidewalk, but I recommend to go there and sit outside. Our server wasn't the friendliest, but it was still a good time.
Ugh, I know this is a local place but you could at least try to be an alright place to eat. Just because you're not a chain does not make it ok to to have me seated by a lady that lives upstairs and is drunk. That's right drunk. She was a little lost, eating a burger, and drinking beers the whole time I was there. When I did get seated by her 15 mins. later, it was to a table that already belonged to some rather grumpy locals that made it clear I needed to sit at the sad little bum table. In no mood to fight, I just sat down. My waitress was nice...when she was over at our table. And the food was...meh. not amazing. I mean it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about. It also took 30 mins to get to my table. It was a cheeseburger. From what I hear, everyone has to wait for days and days and days for their food here. I don't know when it's open during the day. Most of the people that come here daily are just people looking for a cold beer, and over-priced beer I may add. They have a cooler like the one you have at home with a case of buds in it. Why would you pay 3 bucks for a beer you can have at home just as cold for half the price? I'm unsure. My burger was big but wasn't served on a bun. It was just a hunk of greasy meat with way too much cheese on, i kid you not, french bread, as they ran out out buns. I asked for it medium well and just got it overcooked. I also had a view of the kitchen and it kinda looks like it would fail a health inspection. The "clean hand sink" was filled and over flowing with dirty dishes and half eaten food that had been sitting in there the whole time we sat there. The cook wasn't wearing gloves and was cleaning dirty counters with his bare hands! After cleaning people's food scrap off he went back to handling the food with those same hands. After I picked through my food I was ready to leave. Only I had to wait for my friend to wash up and ended up being stopping by the drunk hostess who then told me she doesn't even work there! She just was eating her lunch and sat me. No wonder there was a fight for the table!
If you're from out of town just go elsewhere. The staff isn't too friendly the food isn't that great, and the regulars at the bar don't want you there. Oh and I'm a little amazed I didn't get sick from the food.
"Meh. I've experienced better." says it all. If you're going to pride yourself on being local and made to order how about you do a half way alright job at it?
Keg Lounge is a great neighborhood bar!  Another reviewer thought it looked like a dive. The dive places I have gone to don't have marble bar tops, polished wood & clean floors.  The food here was GREAT!  I had the chicken fried chicken breasts marinated in butter milk served with cheese mashed potatoes & broccoli with parmesan. Everything on my plate was great.  My husband had the ground chuck steak with blue cheese melted on the inside it was yummy!  Beef & blue cheese were made from each other & The Keg out did themselves.  We got two entrees for $21.50 from the back side of the menu.  We have paid 3 times that for meals in fine dining & walked away not impressed & we paid for THAT!  Not at The Keg & get this, the kitchen is where everyone can see the food  being made.  The beer selection has a wonderful variety, my husband had the Laughing Lab from a local brewery which was a great Scottish ale.  Our waitress knew her beers & how describe them not something you would find in a dive.  At a dive your choices usually are do you want Bud or Bud Light.  This is a must stop in Manitou Springs.
Review Source:Every time I visit Manitou Springs I have dinner here. Service has always been good. It's a small hole in the wall bar / restaurant setting. Lots of locals. Kitchen is in the back and open . You can see them prepare your food. I'd recommend  the steak dinner, it has always been cooked perfectly (Rare) and the salads have always been fresh. Good beer as well.
Review Source:We stopped here while looking at some real estate. It's typical bar food (hamburgers, phillys, sandwiches etc) but it was really good.
However, they don't have a fryer so your sides are bags of chips. And average price is about $10, which I think is way overpriced. They could get creative and serve fruit or veggies as an option or pasta salad?? But not $10 for a cheeseburger and a bag of Ruffles.
If they come down on the prices I would prob eat there more often.
**on a side note....I believe the reason for no fryer and small bathrooms is due to them being "grandfathered" in, Â they would have to make the bathrooms ADA and add some expensive upgrades, which I'm okay with but rethink the pricing.
John and I went to the keg lounge. Â Of course anyone I had previously questioned ssaid THE BEST BUFFALO BURGER!!!! Have to get it. It was beyond delicious. Cooked a perfect medium. John got the philly cheese. We ended up sharing are sandwiches. They have very good meats. The Ke= Lounge looks like a dive, which I don't mind. The jukebox never played a bad song!! Â I would eat the bb everyday

First off there are vegetarian options. Â Perhaps not vegan but certainly vegetarian. Â My favorite thing there is the Berry salad which is awesome. Â I also must say the killer cheesy bread, while simple, is great. Â The keg is a bar and it serves bar food the burgers are good and the chicken fried chicken is awesome.
The wait is a bit long but that's because everything is made fresh. Â The service has always been decent if not great. Â But I think givin it 1 or 2 stars is well below what it deserves.
All right, the service is hit or miss, and they just recently started accepting credit cards with a minimum tab, and it's kind of overpriced. Â Why the four star rating?
Saturday night King Crab Leg special. Â Woweeeeeee. Â I love love love me some crab legs, and the Keg does not mess around with this one. Â Served with broccoli & rice, I was just in love with the whole plate of food in front of my face. Â I never would have expected such great seafood from such a wobbly little bar in Manitou, but I left a happy girl.
Great jukebox, too.
My family and I visited here on the recommendation of a local. Â To sum it up in 1 word, disappointing.
Prices were wayyyy too high for the caliber of food. Â There are very few options on the menu as well. Â They don't take cards. Â The cheese quesadilla was filled with velveeta cheddar cheese and thats it. Â Cheddar cheese, what looked like a full pound of the stuff, does not go in a quesadilla.
The waitress was sitting at the table behind us, one of the few large tables in the establishment, and was counting her tips and texting her friends. Â Unprofessional.
I will not be returning here. Â Perhaps I came in with too high hopes but whatever hopes I had were pretty well crushed between the price, the service, and the bland food.
I visited Colorado Springs a year ago with my parents. Â The front desk lady at our hotel recommended this place for dinner so we decided to check it out.
I personally thought the food was pretty good.  I ordered a steak (which my parents kept taking bites off of) while my mother ordered their berry salad  delicious.  My dad ordered the buffalo burger and was pretty disappointed.  It was pretty dry but maybe that's because he ordered well done.
The only downside to the place was that it got pretty smokey while they were cooking. Â The "kitchen" is in an open area so you can watch the cooks prepare your food but I think that its probably not the greatest thing to do if there's a lot of grilling involved.
The Good:
*Cool little neighborhood bar, friendly servers, lots of yummy local beer on tap
The Weird:
*Very, very strange bathroom setup. Ladies beware. And, kids games at the bar (wtf?). And, cash-only, BOO!
The Bad:
*The food. It is terrible. Between the 3 of us not one of us could stomach our food. My buffalo burger was a hockey puck. If that's "medium" I don't even want to know what "well done" looks like.
I may roam in here for a beer sometime while cruising MS, but I certainly won't eat here again. I'll save the grubbin for the Stagecoach Inn (much better choice than the Keg).
I've been to The Keg twice. Â I head up to Manitou every now and then to go to the local festivals which are always great fun! Â Both times at The Keg were just OK. Â Both meals I've had were just OK. Â The recent trip included a buffalo burger that was over-cooked, dry and tasted just OK. Â They also don't have a fryer so instead of fries, you get a bag of plain potato chips... *yawn*
The wait for food is always incredibly long. Â Even the Manitou locals we were with said it's always quite a long wait for food. Â They also don't take credit cards. Â Like many places in this city, it's pretty much cash only and really annoying. Â After hanging out in this city a few times, I know to make sure I come into town with cash. Â Previous visits to this city (as much as I love hanging out here) raped me in ATM fees. Â No good!
It's not horrible to eat here. Â It's just not fantastic. Â I'm sure I'll end up here again, as the locals we hang out with seem to really like this place. Â If anything changes, I'll let you guys know.
