Keep in mind, this is a joint where they give you crayons to write on the wall. Yes, even adults.

But for what they are, they do things well. It's a beach seafood joint!

    Cold beer? Check.

Seafood served raw (oysters), fried or grilled? Check. (Try shrimp or grouper)

A good way with all things fried for that matter? Check.

    Friendly and cute waitresses? Check.

Kenny D's was just what we wanted when we ate there last night. My parents really enjoyed their grilled fish. I enjoyed my fried grouper, and my nine year old nephew loved his popcorn shrimp. Solid for families or small to medium sized groups.

New Orleans angle was nice too. Cool music, good bean and rice, hushpuppies and some menu options that sounded good (though we didn't try them).

Prices not cheap but less than those on the ocean side. You can pay that if you want. Me? I'll be going back to Kenny's.

Been twice.  A poor experience each time.  Gumbo is nasty. Very slow service all throughout the meal (before, during, and after) even though the people are very friendly.

Hole in the wall diner.  We sat outside on the picnic tables.  Destin beaches are great - but like other people, I just never found the perfect seafood joint.  Kenny D's has great red beans and rice.  Grilled fish was good - and with mashed potatoes and green beans were good - but over priced.  We actually went twice - because of the location - good food - not amazing - and like everything around the area, overpriced.

The only great thing about this place is their house-made ranch, which is delicious! The calamari appetizer was over cooked and soaking in grease...not appetizing. The cheese sticks and fried mushrooms were good, served fresh and hot.The fish tacos were more of a mystery meat taco. It was supposed to be mahi, but it tasted and looked more like minced pork. The fries were hot and crispy but very salty. The diet coke was flat, so we had to order new drinks. The fried grouper sandwich was decent. Fish was cooked nicely but nothing special about the plate. My husband ordered a Yuengling on draft, but the mug was only 3/4 full. Our server said she would bring more once the keg was replaced, but she never returned with the beer.  Donna, our waitress, was very snappy and unfriendly. She made our whole table feel as if we were bothersome. A big thumbs down for service! I really don't know why it's dubbed as a 'Beach Bar', as it is Cajun themed and not actually on the beach....not impressed!

Very typical beach food. Ultra casual. Set expectations accordingly and enjoy.

I've known ken for 10 years. Been to his spot in New Orleans as well.  Both are perfect. Food, service, zydeco tunes. Nothin' beats it. Do not, I repeat, do not skip the gumbo. It's an award winning recipe straight from Africa, where gumbo was created.  And the chef, yep she's from Africa too.  And the buffalo shrimp are all time.

I just got a kids burger and it was really good! Service was a little slow but they were understaffed. The people that were working were really helpful and great though! I love Kenny d's!

This place was horrible. Thought we'd head over since the resort was next door, but I should have gotten in the car and drove somewhere else. The server came to us within a few minutes and seemed ticked that we weren't ready to order within 2 minutes of getting the menu. 15 minutes later he finally came back to take our order. Apparently they had to run out and catch our food since it took over 30 minutes to get the food. After getting the food, we didn't se our server again until we flagged him down to get our bill. Mind you, there were only about 3 or 4 groups in the place. I wouldn't go back here if they offered me free food. I wish everyone else the best of luck if you go here.

Worst gumbo EVER!  Don't waste your time here.  There is better service and food elsewhere.

Great happy hour price on pitchers of beer... The gumbo is amazing...  Excellent place to escape the sun and grab a bite!  Good job Kenny.

    A colossal mistake. Terrible food.

Even the servers were embarrassed by it.

This is a no, no, no.

First off -- the mapped location on Yelp is pretty far off.  This is farther west in Destin than the map portrays.

Family headed over to Destin on New Year's Eve for the 8pm fireworks show.  Wanted something local, non-chain and found these reviews.

Party of 5, 3 kids.  Kids grub was typical, fries were pretty salty.  Wife had grilled shrimp which were highly seasoned - she ate about half the portion & then refused the rest because of the saltiness.  I had a bowl of red beans & rice (per the server's recommendation) and they were pretty good.

All told, pretty reasonable prices, no wait (very slow in the off season even early on New Year's Eve) - so it met our purposes.  Not a bad choice if you're trying to eat local during a visit to the Destin area -- but unless you like a lot of salt on your food, I'd recommend you order carefully or ask for light seasoning.

Reasonable prices. Free internet. $2.50 beers. had oysters Rockefeller and parm baked...they were good. The wait staff was friendly and service was above average. Our stay was two blocks away. We had lunch here twice

So after a review of local casual restaurants with seafood, we decided to try this joint out.  After a nice scenic drive along the water we came across Wahoo's with its wooden exterior and typically decorated interior full of large signs and pictures of famous patrons quite cliche and typical of many restaurants found all along the gulf coast.  Sports were on the tvs and the staff greeted us in a friendly way.  Signs of their "gumbo" were listed both as a special and on the walls all indicating it is a desired dish to be tried.... More on that disaster later.  We sat down and promplty recieved our drinks.  For appetizers we ordered mahi mahi fried bites and boiled shrimp.  The Mahi was tastey, not overly greesy and came with tartar sauce and a hot sauce similar to a traditional buffalo wing sauce.  The shrimp were also served in a basket with a lemon wedge with a clove of whole garlic and some onion at the bottom to give hints of what was used to flavor their boil.  The shrimp were decent sized and tasted fine.  For our main courses, we orded the grilled grouper, an oyster po boy, a shrimp po boy, gumbo and oysters on the half shell however they later informed me they were out of fresh oysters.  The food came out in a reasonable amount of time.  The grouper was a larger portion and came with garlic potatoes and green beens.  At first bite, the grouper was a bit too salty and made it difficult to enjoy all the way through.  The mashed potatoes garlicy and the green beens not very fresh.  The po boys were solid, each with a good amount of meat on a typical soft french loaf.  The fries which accompanied the sandwiches were standard and no special flavoring or cut to them.  Now my gumbo....HORRENDOUS!!!  By far, THE WORST GUMBO I HAVE EVER PUT IN MY MOUTH!.  Imagine brown molten tar: that was the appearence.  On top of the soup was a burnt, dark, maroon paper thin film that sat atop the gumbo.  The smell was overly smokey and confused.  I decided to still try a taste.  First the liquid: a mix of crude oil and sugar with smokey paprika.  I thought to myself, maybe I'm being picky, let me try the sausage...and still terrible.  I had my family try it too and each of them could hardly keep down a spoonful.  The smell of the overdone tar continued to nauseate me as I awaited to ask my waitress to remove the dish from our table.  Eventually she did and I just ordered some more mahi mahi tenders as my main course.  We were not charged for the gumbo and the rest of the meal went uneventfully.  In summary, WORST gumbo EVER.  Grouper overseasoned.  Po Boys are good and mahi mahi tenders were the best thing we tried.  I wouldn't go here again though.  2 stars.

Our food was good, but our waitress seemed a bit out of it. Would've liked to have been offered a seat outside. They also could've thrown in some hush puppies along with the meal. Ha.

Ouch!  This was our first stop in Destin and did not make a good first impression. Wait staff seemed confused, and after seeing the food served to the folks next to us we decided to stick to an appetizer  and then move on.  Glad we did, the appetizer was awful.

Love this place! Right next to our condo and a great upscale dive. It's super laid back, so come relaxed. The gumbo and oysters are delicious! Blackened mahi mahi sandwich is a favorite as well.

Really liked this place. The staff are very friendly and do a nice job. It was walking distance from where we were staying, which allowed us to have a good time. The food was good--the oysters were fantastic--definitely standard bar fare on the whole. While the place hosts live music a couple times per week, the music they play over the speakers leaves much to be desired.

Not worth your time. Service was poor, food was worse and the entire place was dirty.  I ordered the shrimp feast and it was gross. My child ordered the child's shrimp and it was inedible.  When I asked for a corn dog to replace it the waitress took away the uneaten shrimp but charged us for both???  Classy...

Seems like a popular place, but after eating dinner there, I don't know why. Our table was sticky and there was food and silverware on the floor when we were seated. We ordered a dozen oysters for an appetizer. They were nothing special. When they seemed to run out a little too fast, we counted shells and only got to 11. I mentioned it to our waitress, who counted the shells herself and just laughed. She never brought us the missing oyster (which we paid for). I ordered the Shrimp Creole, which the menu described as their most popular dish. One bite of the sauce was nothing but powdered spice which hadn't dissolved. The rice was undercooked and the shrimp overcooked. The menu tells a nice tale of Kenny coming to Destin from New Orleans and bringing the Creole cuisine with him, but we were not impressed and can't recommend the place.

Great beach food and fun staff. Location is across from the beach in an area of town that doesn't have a lot of restaurants unless you feel like driving. I felt like a burger and the one I received was very good. Inside is fun and beach/touristy. Outside seating available but you have to like cigarette smoke to enjoy it. Parking seemed decent but I bet it can get crowded when busy.

Destin was such a beautiful place but good seafood was so hard to find!!
I looked up on yelp and decided to give this one a try cuz it looked less like a tourist trap, but.. we didn't enjoy it at all.

oyster was tiny, not fresh and over priced, 12 baby oysters for 9.95 dollars. broiled shrimp was ok.. my gumbo had great flavor and grouper was cooked perfect, but overall it just lacked something. even the simplest bread pudding was rock hard and nasty... ugh.
I give 2 stars to the fish and our friendly server, but I won't visit again.

Why the "Wahoo's-Kna" crap? Whoever made this page thought it would be cool and unique, but instead, it just makes their page harder to find. Anyways, I love this place for a quick lunch over on Scenic 98. It's across the street from Dave's. Never been for dinner, don't see a reason to. Pretty sure its the same menu and prices anyhow. When we go, we split some oysters and each order a sandwich or another appetizer each. Never had a bad meal here.

I know that I am not the first one who wanted to do a review on this place but I barely found it looking it up on here. It is just called Kenny D's on the sign. Ignore all the rest of the name. I had two dozen raw oysters since they were $5/dozen during happy hour. My hubby had red beans and rice that had andouille sasuage in it. It was good. Prices are decent and it looks like it would be hard to find a parking spot in the summer since they share a lot with the Wyndham cottages.

This was a great meal. The atmosphere was pure  hole-in-the wall bayou with zydeco music playing in the background. The gumbo was very very good. The grouper (fried) St Charles was out of this world. Its the owners favorite and I now know why. Kids felt comfortable and enjoyed the food as well.  We will be back.

The food was pretty good.  A lot of fried things, which might be good, but a little much for us.  The fried dill pickles were very good.  The Spicy Mihi nuggets are just fried pieces of fish with a side of spicy but yummy sauce.  The red beans and rice and gumbo we very good with the spicy smoky flovor, but also very similar in taste.  If you get one, you can probably say you got them both.  We did get both of them, and they tasted almost exactly the same.  Service was very fast, even on a Friday at 6:30.  Great place to try out.!!
