This is truly a hidden gem in Fontana!! I have lived in Fontana for a few years and we are always on the hunt for some good Asian food, especially being raised in the San Gabriel Valley. The ambiance here is very nice and upscale, from the outside you wont expect to see the greatness inside. We ordered several dishes, spicy cashew chicken, Beef Basil, chicken fried rice and some noodles for the kids with just carrots. Once the food got here I could see the quality, fresh and not your typical greasy asian food. The taste was astonishing and recommended it to all my friends before we even left! The best was saved for last, we ordered the fried banana & coconut which comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic food at a reasonable price. The owner was very nice and helpful when we had some questions regarding the plates.
Review Source:Don't use any type of GPS to get to this location. It's likely going to take you to some sketchy looking cul-de-sac where your sphincters will tighten in anxiety with anticipation to escape the situation. Just look at a map and see what this restaurant is in proximity to (you know, 1990's style). I listened to my advanced iOS6 iPhone and I had a near-death experience looking for this place. It took me to the back of the restaurant where gang-violence may be prevalent.
Anyway, the interior design looks very nice and the staff working was also very nice. I was only getting takeout the other night but really wouldn't mind dining in because from the pictures, the presentation of their product looks awesome.
We ordered the Orange Chicken and the Spicy Basil Fried Rice. Honestly, I thought both dishes were just alright but I still want to come back and try their other yummies such as the Pineapple Fried Rice and KhaoNieaw MaMuang.
I consider this joint a gem in the IE.
My brother was in town and craving some good hot and sour soup. We have tried a few places and been very disappointed. We decided to try Khunyai based on its Yelp rating and we were VERY impressed.
Pros: Extremely clean and weel kept. Food was EXCELLENT (we ordered hot&sour soup, pad thai, eggplent basil, orange chicken). Service was attentive and curteous. The kitchen was backed up during our visit but we were kept up to date on our order and given a complimentary appetizer. We had two very small children with us and the staff was very helpful in bringing small plates and cutlary and drinks for the kiddos without even asking. W efelt very welcomed.
Cons: There was a VERY large party there during our visit (20+) and you can tell that the small staff on shift was not accustomed to such parties. It was obvious that they are used to dealing with only a few small tables at a time. So dont plan on a quick in/out dinner from this place but I gaurantee you will enjoy every minute you are there!
This place is a DIAMOND in the rough. Really, right off of Foothill and Sierra, in Fontana of all places, Khunyai Asian Grill is amazing. "It's as good as it gets" for Fontana... and many other places as well.
The inside of this place is modern, clean, and something totally refreshing for this city. The food - and I've been here twice so far - was delicious and fresh.
If you're are in the mood for good Thai food with ambiance- Â and don't want to drive to LA for - go here. You will not be disappointed.
I will definitely be back - and highly recommend that you give this great place a try!
Khunyai is as good as it gets when it comes to excellent Asian inspired food.
Fontana is a wasteland for good restraunts which are few and far between but Khunyai stands out as an amazing place to eat, and it is IMO the best Asian food in Fontana and nearby areas.
The location is easy to get to, lots of parking and service is always fast. I have never had to wait for a table. Our hostess is amazing, she always is helpfull and remembers us whenever we come in to eat.
All of the food I have tried from here is amazing. All the curry dishes are prepared nicely, not too spicy and lots of flavor.
The orange chicken is phenomenal. The lightly breaded pieces of chicken taste amazing, the orange taste is very fresh and citrusy. The chicken is excellent quality.
The Cashew Nut chicken by far has one of the best sauces I have ever tried. It's sweet and spicy and it blends together perfectly with the chicken and cashews to form an amzing sensation of tastes that you can't find anywhere else. Hands down the absolute best Cashew Nut Chicken ever.
Khunyai 5 stars. Excellent service, amazing food, great prices!
Was vacationing in socal and based on yelp reviews decided to try this place.
Well deserving of its high ratings.I've had pineapple fried rice many times before.  And this one was one of  the best I've had.  Perhaps it is the Chinese sausage which is not typical.  Orange chicken was delicious.  In bad ones,  they pour a thick (and too sweet) sauce over the chicken.  Not here.  Just a very light coating of sauce.  And chicken was evenly battered and tasty.  Larb salad is another good choice. Comes with two sauces(spicy and more spicy).  Also had the pork belly with Chinese broccoli.  Pork was a little tough.  Vegetables and sauce were excellent.
This place was ~2 miles off I10, but well worth the detour.
Amazing place! Â My husband and I discovered Khunyai in October and have been almost every weekend since! Â The orange chicken is unlike anything you have ever tried, and my husband has tried almost everything on the menu and has loved them all! Â The owner and her daughter, and the chefs are always welcoming and friendly! Â You MUST try this place out!
Review Source:I've been to many nice restaurants, but this place is definitely one of my new favorites. There's not many places in the Fontana area that allow you to come in, sit down for a glass of wine, have a GOOD, nutritious, delicious elegant meal, and treat yourself to yummy dessert after. The customer service from this place is absolutely phenomenal. Natalia treats her customers like they're family. She's talkative, very welcoming, sweet, knowledgable, and she makes sure you leave the restaurant happy and satisfied.
If you want good food (not fast food), and you want a place to wine & dine, THIS IS THE SPOT. It's atmosphere is warm and welcoming, a place you'll want to stop by after work, take the family to, or eat by yourself at. I'm having trouble not eating here consistently. The prices are worth every bit, and the food portions are perfect. Thank you Natalia and serving/cooking staff for always taking care of me.
I can't wait until the new menu arrives, so check back often! I LOVE KHUNYAI ASIAN GRILL!
I walked in with a coupon, after eating there I was embarrassed to make it worth. It was DELICIOUS foods!.
I eat in restaurants a LOT, and I have developed a palate for tasty, fresh, good quality foods, so, when I ordered here, I was expecting a regular asian bowl of food, but what a great surprise. This is a KHUNYAI surprise!, do you want to hear the story behind the name? go and ask the owner, very friendly lady who knows the taste of her foods.
I moved to Fontana recently and had difficulty locate a good restaurant. Now I feel lucky to live close by and when friends and family come to visit I do not lose the opportunity to show them my new discovery.
GREAT FOODS and friendly service in a very nice contemporary restaurant style.
Great tasting food. We were not really in the mood for Thai food but I wanted something good, so I check Yelp and I was not disappointed.
Had the lobster wontons for an appetizer. They get 4 stars they were good but very little lobster.
Ordered the spicy noodle plate. Amazing!
Ordered the sea food plate "Krapow" (maybe). It was Amazing too!
Each bite was full of flavor. I was very excited about this place and cant wait to take a friend.
It was not the fanciest restaurant I have ever been to but the food was amazing and the owner was very friendly. It was a unique dinning experience and it was nice to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of dinning out.
Amazing food! I will be back again and I do recommend others to try this place out.
O-yeah fried banana was killer! I usually don't eat deserts but I heard so many good things about it I had to give it a shot.
Okay... I typically do not do 5 stars, but for KAG I have to!
Living in Fontana, I don't expect too much from the Asian restaurants in the area. But KAG is def one of a kind. Â
Service: Depending on the night, service can vary from excellent to very good. Since this place is a small and the owners themselves take care of waiting on their customers. Their outstanding service couldn't be any better. But sometimes when their slammed with customers (typical Fri and Sat night) service is a bit slower, BUT I cannot give them less stars for this. Regardless is far superior to many establishments in the area!
Food: I have tried just about all the dishes there and everything is ON POINT! Everything for their menu is good!
Appearance: The ambiance of the restaurant is a total WOW! This place is a total hidden GEM! Very modern and clean!
This is the best Thai food in the I.E. The food is DELICIOUS with lots of flavor everything we ordered was just great. Â Restaurant is a bit on the fancy side at least for being in an almost empty shopping center. Once you walk into this restaurant you forget your in Fontana. Â I would highly recommend this restaurant as for the prices I think they are reasonable.
Review Source:How unfortunate! My wife and I love to try new restaurants and we decided to try this place out. When we arrived we were greeted with a hello but that was it. We stood there for quite sometime before I grabbed a menu to see what we should eat. After about ten minutes of standing there we sat down on a bench and wondered if they were gonna tell us our wait time or any further instructions. We really wanted Thai food so we stuck it out for about 10 more minutes... Then my wife asked the waiter if we could get seated and he said we had to wait for an open table (understandable, but!)... It just would've been nice if there was a bit more communication... They are in the customer service business, so SERVCE YOUR CUSTOMERS! So we up and left. Wish we could have tried it but lack of communication and wait time was such a turn off.
Review Source:So like everyone else on Yelp, I like to try new places based on reviews and word of mouth, My fellow Yelpers did not let me down. This place was awesome some of the best  Thai food I have ever had. The place has a really modern look, like going to Ikea style furniture, which for Fontana shows that we can have wonderful and a classy place in the Inland Empire. The Pineapple chicken fried rice was delicious, love the thai ice tea as well. I will definintely be going back. The staff was great, and they explain every thing really well. If you love thai food check this place out.
Review Source:Talk about a diamond in the rough!
Walked in to a near empty SUPER contemporary Thai resteraunt this afternoon and the food was SO SUPERB and SO FRESH I had to come home and write a review on yelp asap to make sure they get the love they truly deserve...
First off, the owner is such a sweet lady who like other reviewers say cares about what she is serving....that is enough for my family and I to want to come back..
The food!
Everything I ordered NOT ONE THING TASTED BAD..
I literally loved every single thing I tried!
Drinks were filled quickly and food came out pipping hot with tons of flavor and originality!
Must try's:
Pineapple fried rice
Orange chicken
Fish
Tom kha soup (literally thee best soup I've ever had ever!) loads of flavor!
This place is far beyond anything little ol Fontana has to offer in the dining department and with their reasonable prices and great customer service along with amazing Thai food they are sure to go far!
Let me first say that the customer service is very good and the people who run the restaurant are very nice.
These are the following items I had at the restaurant any my opinion of the dishes.
1. BBQ chicken - a little on the dry side and only 3 small pieces for $8
2. tom sum soup - my grandma had it and she liked it
3. The pineapple fried rice was probably the best thing I had at the restaurant. perfectly seasoned.
4. Spicy beef salad- was not very spicy, a little too salty for my taste and for the price very little beef.
5. Pad Thai- a bit too salty, could have used more sprouts
Overall my meal for two people came out to be $64.00 that included tip. My opinion is that the portions should be a little bit larger for the price and a little bit less salty. I hope that the owners read the feed back and adjust a bit. The restaurant was completely empty at lunch by the time we started ordering. Around 1:30pm.
Want to slip away and feel like your having a nice dinner in LA (without the drive). Then come here. The restaurant is clean, contemporary and staff very friendly. Service was great too.
I had a blue moon, shrimp rolls, and orange chicken. Â Everything was delicious - especialy there green chili sauce! Â
I will be back and can't wait to try more!
Food is good. The bbq chicken was a pleasant surprise, unlike other Thai places you didn't kill the chicken with a lot of sauces so kudos on that. A tv or a happy hour might help. You have all this bar space and no one or nothing to fill it. I mean your food is great, but the ambiance needs to change because it has this empty lingering feeling.
Review Source:The Orange Chicken was delicious! Lightly battered with the perfect crispiness. Pineapple rice was served in half of a pineapple. Food was GREAT! Service was even better. The owner is very nice and helpful. We ended up talking to her for about 45 min before we left. Definitely a Place me and my family will be going regularly.
Review Source:YES Going Back. WOW really really good. Â Even the rice was Delicious plain ole' white rice. lol. BBQ chicken really a standout, unique flavor. Â Best orange chicken i have ever had, I am not an Orange Chicken person but husband is and he LOVES it. Â I think this is my favortie Thai place ever! Â All of the food we had was great.
Review Source:A friend was telling me about some new Thai (maybe the only Thai) restaurant in Fontana and how great it was. Â I have eaten a lot of Thai and have in fact been to Thailand multiple times so I was skeptical.
It's located in a strip mall that is almost deserted on SE corner of Sierra and Foothill behind a KFC. Â The restaurant is clean and has nice decor (see photo). Â The owner is very friendly and helpful.
We ordered the fried shrimp which is actually in a nest of fried noodles and not batter. Â It looks strange but it is fantastic especially with the sauce that comes with it.
We also order the Spicy Noodles and the green curry with chicken...lets just say that there were no leftovers. Â
If you are craving some good Thai go find this place. Â You will not be disappointed.
Work in the Fontana area an wanted to try something new. So I gave Khunyai a try. The restaurant is contemporary yet very plain. We were seating right away, however, it took about 10 minutes to get our drink order(water). There was only one server and at this point I realized this could be problematic. Â I needed to head back to the office. Â The food was hot and fresh but everything took entirely too long. Â I would definitely come back when time is not of the essence.
Review Source:I dream of the barbeque chicken in my sleep! Â I have not had anything on the menu that is not OUTSTANDING and DELICIOUS and I don't like Tai food, generally. Â Do they sprinkle the food with some sort of narcotic? Â All I know is I CRAVE the food here. Â Yes, it is THAT GOOD!! Â Also, the prices are very reasonable, too.
Service is exceedingly friendly. Â This is a new restaurant and they are not fully staffed yet, so if by chance the service is a tad bit slow, just be patient. It WILL be worth your minor additional wait time.
Having ate at many thai places its refreshing to have someone put there own twist on Thai BBQ chicken, Its a must have. The chicken is so moist and tender with proper amount of curry, if you like a little kick of spice, the sauce is the perfect compliment to the chicken. You can tell a lot of pride is put into this place. Fresh food, Great decor, and great service.
An observation for anyone that comes here for the first time, the waitress ( who assume is the owner) is very honest when comes to her food. Don't expect an oversell on the menu, she will give you her honest opinion on her food and what to anticipate, which I appreciate.
I was driving down Foothill and figured I'd just get a quick lunch at KFC. Â I noticed the new neon sign in the plaza and of course checked yelp. Â 16 reviews 5 star rating!? Â I don't know anything about thai food. Â To be honest, I never really had a taste for it. Â I ordered safe and went with the seafood pad thai. Â Delicious. Â It was damn good but I don't have much of a reference point for good thai food. Â I will definitely go back though.
...
Changed my review to 5 stars. Â I've been trying thai places ever since eating at this restaurant; none compare.
First I have to say this is one of my top 3 Thai places ever... I've have eaten Thai food from Hawaii to Georgia and Seattle to San Diego and at over 40+ Thai restaurants in my life so I can say this place is really good! =)
I had the Spicy Thai fried rice and It's the way it should be... Reminds me of the same  dish in Long Beach from Bahn Thai... also an excellent Thai restaurant. I used to drive to Long beach just to have it there.
The Thai tea wasn't too sweet and just right in my opinion.
The cashew nut chicken was delicious and served with fresh white chicken breast... I prefer that over dark meat when it comes to my entree dishes. Also portions for all dishes were generous. Enough for take home =)
The best thing ever is the F.B.I or fried banana with coconut ice cream... If you have to get any dessert please get that! They fry it differently than most places that simply wrap it like an eggroll.
Service was good... from the time we walked in till we left they were kind and the owner spent the time to talk to us. They really care about good quality food and I like that.
The decor is very modern contemporary and I like that... However it's not completed yet so I'll revisit this when it's done. I can see that if this restaurant was located in rowland heights or LA it would blow away most places.
I only have a complaint that I wish it was closer to a freeway as it sits in the middle of the 210,10 and 15 freeway so it does take time to get there but in my opinion it is worth the drive. The prices are good considering how excellent the food is and I believe more and more people will come and also appreciate what a gem Khunyai really is.
10.6.11: Ordered to go, the lady over the phone was extremely nice and helpful, but at times she did not understand me. I ordered the Pad Thai, Yellow Curry with Chicken, side of rice, and Tom Yum Kai Soup
The Pad Thai: Noodles stuck together, it was hard to eat..It was a big glob
Yellow Curry: Salty! I'm glad I had rice to go with it. The chicken was dry, I did however like the potatoes.
Tom Yum Kai: It was SOUR! It was still drinkable but very sour.
The decor inside is off. The chairs and tables are nice and very contemporary. The walls are bare. Place doesn't match a Thai Restaurant.
So the second time I came here I ordered the Tom Yum Kai again, and the Pad See Ew.
This was so much better. I enjoyed it greatly. Tom Yum Kai actually had some spice this time around and the Pad See Ew had good amount of sauce and the noodles did not stick together as much. I had a better meal the second time around. Thats why they say sometimes you gotta give a place a second try.
For sure its going to be my Go To Thai Place..
We found this place thanks to it's raving reviews on yelp. Â We love this place. Â The food is absolutely delicious. Â Our girls (who normally only eat two bites and claim they're full) wouldn't stop eating. Â They loved everything we ordered. Â We've been there twice now and both times I forgot to take photos of my food because I was preoccupied with the thought of eating it. Â I will try to remember to take photos next time.
The atmosphere is clean and new. Â The owner is very friendly and down to earth.
Great food! This is my second time eating Thai food and this restaurant is better than the first one I tried. Friendly staff and did I mention the "Thai Tea"? Soooo yummy. Food is fresh and white meat used (chicken), that's another plus!
The location is sketch, but this is definitely a place to let your friends know about. Spread the word. Wait.. then I'll have to wait long to be seated? lol.
My boyfriend and I are Thai food addicts; we found this place just by browsing on yelp for nearby Thai restaurants like any usual night and noticed this was new to the Fontana area, based off the reviews we decided to try it out.
The dining area is beautiful, very modern and sheik; not to mention the bar area, reminded me of one of those trendy bars in hollywood, polished white bar with white leather barstools.
The service was awesome, the lady who served us was very humble and attentive; I believe she was the owner, This was first thai restaurant Ive been to where the server wasnt barking at you for your orders; you know what I'm talking about hah. Although we were the only customers; im guessing due to the time; showed up at 8pm closes at 9pm, we were not rushed at all to finish our meals.
Now the food... So far the BEST chicken padseew and garlic pepper beef i have ever had, also for the cheese crab wontons; forget about the other restaurants that serves that; Khunyai Asian Grill now has my favorite cheese wontons :) Prices are excellent, I foresee me and the BF becoming regulars at this place; for all you thai food fiends this place is a MUST.
Fontana has gained a new jewel of the city!
For anyone who enjoys Thai food, but has to drive out to the boonies..
look no further!
This place has only been open for two months and they already have regulars!
I just discovered this place a couple of days ago and I have been raving about it to everyone.
The restaurant is beautiful.
I love the open windows and the layout of the dining area.
There is also a big bar to sit at if that's your thing.
The owner of the restaurant is very passionate about the food that she serves.
Yes, she is your server!
Get there 5 min before closing and her doors are wide open for you.
If you've read my reviews, you know how many issues I have with service and closing hours.
The first night, I ordered the sticky rice with mango.
This was my first time trying it and it was so yummy!
Nat, the owner, wanted to do some wine tastings...so we tasted wines!
Today we went in for lunch and I felt very taken care of.
I was observing her with customers, and they got the same treatment.
She wants you to have a good experience while having delicious food.
We had the summer rolls.
I've had rolls at many other places and these are nice and full.
Ask for a plate of sauces...like the green sauce and chili sauce and try it with the rolls.
We also had the Khunyai spicy noodles with shrimp.
The main reason I chose this plate was because I am a huge fan of Pad see ew, but i wanted to try something with similar ingredients.
Now I am a huge spicy noodle fan!
I also dipped some of my shrimp in my side plate of sauces.
We ended our meal with the Coconut fried bananas and ice cream.
oh. my. god.
Definitely the "cherry" on top of our meal.
Khunyai is definitely a place that needs to be visited.
Unless you wants tacos...which you can find on every corner.
my heart has been captured!
