We heard a new sushi place opened and decided to try it out. First impression was...this is a very plain place with zero ambiance. Plain walls and no music. We were seated and sat there for 10 mins before the server came to greet us (and there was only one other table) We actually took it upon our selves to get menus from a side table. Â When she finally did come to get our drink order she came back 5 mins later to ask again because she forgot.
Once we finally ordered our food, it did arrive rather quickly. I ordered a few rolls and my date had a bowl of beef udon noodle soup, apparently a specialty (per the  server). She thought it was bland and forgettable. The rolls on the other hand were pretty good. A little odd but good. I had the Mexican, Philly and spicy tuna rolls. Spicy tuna was good (and was actually spicy) but had avocado and green onions in it. Onion was over powering. The Philly was good and covered in crunch (which I like). The Mexican was a new one for me. Tuna, salmon, jalapeño, avocado and cilantro. Good just a bit too much cilantro.
All in all, not the best sushi place or service in Peoria, but it could work in pinch. They just really need to do better on their service.
This place is a gem. They have just opened about a month ago. The walls are kind of bare, and there's no music, but their food was great. We ordered the hunan chicken and four different rolls. The shrimp tempura was the best I have had. Everything was awesome. I'm not a sushi expert, but I do search out every sushi place I can find. The prices are decent, the staff is very friendly and they deliver! I'm sold. We will definitely be coming back.
Review Source:I am always excited for a new business led by someone with entrepreneurial spirit. That said when you take the plunge you need to make sure you are ready. As we walked into Kirin we were greeted by a 4 year old who spent our dinner loudly playing children's games on a laptop. We noticed that they don't have a liquor license so we ordered ice tea and a soda which took a long time to receive. The service was lacking throughout and after forgetting any napkins and utensils they brought us a napkin and fork, and no chopsticks.
When we finally got our food it was tasty although the rolls were softer than any sushi I have eaten before. Â
I would consider trying this establishment again but I would like other yelpers to tell me things have gotten better
