I never got around to reviewing this place when we were there but it was a great yelp recommendation. The ribs were very good as were the wings. I would eat there again, and recommend it. I wish I could be more specific about the place but honestly, I don't remember the specifics and I have hit so many places since this one that its all a blur. Hopes this helps anyone thingking of trying the place.
Review Source:$1.50 pulled pork sammiches? I knew a guy once that didn't love them, but the Navy Seals killed him and his beard.
Best BBQ in Murfreesboro, hands down. The Brisket will make you dance in your seat. The wings are TO DIE FOR! The place is decorated with lots of neat history and fun stuff from the area. The staff is usually very friendly and eager to help.
Can't wait to stop in again!
This place is ok. I have eaten there a few times. If they say it's a BBQ restaurant I always eat the BBQ. Â I have eaten the pulled pork, brisket, and smoked wings. The pulled pork is average, and I was not a fan of the sauce. Â The brisket was almost so dry I choked on it. Â I think the wings are better without sauce it ruins the flavor if the smoke.
Review Source:WELL...here's the deal. These reviews are supposed to be based on our own personal experience...so...here we go.
I have waited a really long time to post a review because I REALLY like the owners. They are really nice people who unfortunately have just had a really bad time with employees. It just so happens that just about every time I have ordered food from there I've had had an issue with one of those poor qualilty employees.
The food is great so if you don't expect a good experience with customer service then you won't be disappointed. This is what I have had to get the mindset of to be able to patronize this establishment which is why after the last time I'm not returning. You just shouldn't have to think that way to give your business to a restaurant!
I could give you example after example of bad service, but I'm just going to give you the last one. I was driving in from about 45 minutes away so I decided to call in a to-go order. I was in a huge rush so I called them way ahead of time (again, 45 minutes) so that they would have plenty of time to prepare the order. The girl answers the phone, tells me to hold on and NEVER CAME BACK!!! She sat the phone down and apparently no one thought to ever pay attention that the phone was just laying there off the hook. So I literally left the phone line connected on my cell, drove the entire way there, walked in (phone in my hand still connected), placed my order then had to wait on the order as I was trying to avoid. Finally after about another 20 minutes, here comes my order. So at this point, the timer on my phone shows over an hour STILL CONNECTED and I had it on speakerphone the entire time so I could hear if they ever had thought to check on the person they put on hold. NO ONE EVER CAME BACK TO THE PHONE. With the timer still running I asked for the owner. Great guy, super nice but is really oblivious to how bad the customer service there is. I told him what happened and showed him my phone and he apologized and said they were short staffed and all but no offer to do anything about it.
Even through their wings are smaller, I actually prefer them over Slick Pig's but at least Slick Pig's owner completely understands the required customer service standard that is expected at any restaurant. Again, the owners are great people and everything but I mean after repeated bad experiences it just became no longer worth the effort.
Even my former coworkers who used to always order from them for lunch finally quit too because they got so frustrated. And raising the prices certainly didn't help the matter either.
I think 2 stars is generous based on my super frustrating experience as their food is very good. If they would JUST get the service issues straightened out they would be much more successful. Sadly, I'm not going back again to see if they do though.
Went to Kirkenburt's today after a gymnastics meet. It was a bit after 2 and we were the only people in the place. The place is rather homey and looks a lot like an old time roadhouse, with posters of various artists adorning the walls. For those desiring an adult beverage, they have a selection of bottle beers (no tap or other alcohol), which enhances the roadhouse feel. You have the choice between picnic tables (seat 8 - maybe 10 skinny people?), low 4 tops and a few bar style 4 tops. There are televisions around the room playing sports, which definitely fits the BBQ restaurant, roadhouse feel.
We were immediately greeted and the waitress took care of all our needs. The service was also quick, with the food coming out in less than 10 minutes after we ordered.
The food is okay, although, for my tastes, the pulled pork is very bland. I had it on top of a salad, so adding BBQ sauce would not have been a good deal. The BBQ sauce that comes with other meals is a rather sweet red sauce, so bear that in mind if you are a Carolina boy looking for vinegar based sauce.
The redneck nachos? Nice enough taste, but the assembly left a lot to be desired. All of the cheese was found in two clumps. I would also forgo the upgrade to lettuce, pico and jalapenos, unless you consider a small bit of lettuce, an ounce of pico and 4 jalapenos to be a good upgrade. They are interesting, but I would not rate them as a sterling example of a signature disk. Reading the owner's comments here, I wish I had tasted the smoked wings. I think the idea of smoked balogna as an appetizer is a bit unique, as well.
As far as I could see, the only alcohol available was bottled beer, which you can buy in either 12 oz or 40 oz bottles. This definitely fits the roadhouse feel, although I can't say I have seen 40s at most establishments, roadhouses or otherwise.
It may have been an off day, but based on my experience, I would not rate the food excellent.
Tried this place with my 9 year old son. He liked it. I thought it was ok. The wings were good. Kinda did not like the flash frying of them. The sausage was decent but not smoked. The barbeque was dried out. Tasted like left over. Brisket was not cooked that day. I had ordered 10 wings and the triple meat combo for me and my son to share. It was not $35 worth of good food. Took the leftovers home. Still not good the second day. Probably will not go back.
Review Source:So, we were out in Murfreesboro and hungry, but wanted to find something non-chainy to eat before I spent all of my money at Ulta. I consulted Yelp and Kirkenburt's showed up nearby, so off we went.
I really liked this place. We shared The Barnyard(4 different meats and 2 sides) and were very happy with all the smoked the meat on the plate. Â The mild sauce was delicious and I tried not to smother the chicken and kielbasa with it because they were both good without it.
Our server was great too. She was super spunky and very attentive. Anyone who can keep up with Greg's drink refills should automatically get a star.
Overall a good experience. If we're in the area again I'd love to stop by and try some of their wings.
You'd be hard pressed to find a place with better smoked wings than Kirkenburt's, but their award winning wings are not all they have to offer. Kirkenburt's became an instant staple in our household diet when they first opened. They also have a knack for cooking brisket and catfish to perfection among other things.
The staff is always attentive and friendly, and their weekend entertainment is usually pretty good as well. If you're a cornhole player, you should also stop by and play in Kirkenburt's cornhole league that runs throughout the warmer months and if you're an MTSU fan like me and can't get to the game there is no place better to watch the Blue Raiders than at Kirkenburts with a basket of wings and a cold 40oz beer.
My only nag for Tom and the Kirkenburt's crew is BRING BACK THE CURLY FRIES. They rocked!
Great, authentic Southern BBQ.
Wings are their specialty, you have to try them. Brisket is also my favorite, highly recommended.
I love the sauces, they have hot, mild, and a good pepper sauce with a little more kick.
Service is good, staff is always friendly and the owners are great guys. If there is a problem, which is rare, they'll make it right. Plus, they're big MT supporters. A good place to go watch a game.
If you haven't been there, go there.
Stopped by there tonight for dinner with some coworkers. Â This is a nice little restaurant. Â It is small (only about 15 tables) and the atmosphere is cozy. Â Plenty of televisions to watch the sporting events. Â We had several people in our group, and everyone seemed satisfied. Â The two waitresses that worked our table were friendly and very attentive. Â No complaints on the service.
I tried the the brisket, and it was very good and tender. Â But, where they really shine is with their chicken wings. Â I tried some with their "hot" sauce. Â The chicken was so tender that it literally fell off the bone. Â Delicious! Â The hot sauce was not at all hot, so I don't know if that is normal or if I got mild by mistake. Â Their selection of beers left a bit to be desired, with only Yuengling and Blue Moon peaking my interest. Â The rest were Bud/Miller/Coors variants, which are really not my cup of tea. Â Hopefully, they will increase their selection in that area.
Overall, it was a great, and I will definitely be back for another meal. Â Looking forward to trying the homemade banana pudding next time. Â Happy dining!
Drove by all the time, thought to myself.... Time to try it out! Glad I did, my wife and I ate there last night and had a great meal and a great time. Nice atmosphere and menu, I ordered a beer and the nice waitress said " would you like a 40 ouncer?" well, heck yeah! So out comes a 40 oz bottle wrapped in a paper bag just like from the liquor store :) and it was cold till the last drink. Food was great, try the redneck nachos if you can't decide. They are famous for their wings, I will return for some and a 40 of course.... Thanks guys!
Review Source:This is a solid smokehouse that has all the bases covered. Â It is on the same side of the street and just south of the movie theater.
The wings are great and come in your choice of naked, with mild or spicy sauce. Â I had some wings as an appetizer and the brisket sandwich, which came with fries and I chose the potato salad side dish. Â It is mustard-based potato salad. Â They have pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, catfish, burgers, and I will have to try their Po Boys next time.
Attentive service, yet not rushed. Â Several flat screen TVs and they will switch channels if you want to watch something in particular.
