"It's a shame this place wasn't around when I lived in Lubbock!"
I said this several times when I was at Kong's last night 'playing' with my friends, drinking, and listening to surprisingly good music. But the truth is, its a good thing this place wasn't around when I lived in Lubbock, because I would have spent way to much time here, way to much money here, and probably gotten into a lot of trouble here.
This place is cool, and in my opinion, about as cool as it gets in Lubbock. I had decided to meet some friends at Louie-Louie's for drinks and dueling pianos to catch up on my short visit in town, and Kong's is conveniently located next to the piano bar. So I just had to stumble in before walking over for some BBQ from Big E.
- Drinks: Reasonably priced, and stellar selection. I think it might be a shot bar, but honestly I was too fuzzy to pay much attention.
- Music: I was surprised to hear some really decent songs. It was dance music, and I wanted to dance. This is a rare statement to make for Lubbock. It wasn't all great, but overall pretty damn good.
- Entertainment: Here's the vibe. You order a drink, get some quarters from the change machine and spend as much time as you want playing old school arcade games from the 80's - 90's. As far as I could tell ALL games were a quarter per player. Which is cool, cause even when I was in high school it cost fifty cents each to play Mortal Kombat (which, by the way, I kicked my friend's a$$ at - I still got it!). Galaga, Asteroids, Ms. Pac Man, Centipede, MK4, I don't even remember what else. It was definitely a nice selection though.
I don't know what else to say. It's cool. Check it out. If you don't like video games or good music, you don't necessarily have to bother, but it would probably be cool even then.
Enjoy!
