Until about 5 or 6 years ago, we went to the Kopper Kettle frequently for seafood until we found Lew's Dockside in Glenside; seafood is awesome at Lew's (but parking is terrible...the lot is tiny).  About 6 weeks ago and again about 2 weeks ago, we decided to try the Kopper Kettle again.  Both times we had the same experience...the waitresses are so busy hugging and chatting to the regulars that they ignore everyone else!  We were NEVER asked if we wanted a second drink the entire time we were there.  The crab cake was pretty good and the portions were a nice size.  One of the reasons we quit going to the Kopper Kettle before was that sometimes the breading tasted moldy; I didn't notice that this time, probably because of the strong, fishy-tasting flounder.  lol  Anyway, I still regret tipping the waitress the last time we were there so we probably won't be going back for a very long time, if ever.  Advice to the Kopper Kettle, your regulars can only spend so much money...you need new customers if you want to survive in the restaurant business.
Review Source:Gotta say, for a small place out in the middle of nowhere, great food!! We showed up with 12 or more people- Rose handled us- difficult task- but the seafood is fantastic here! The raw clams were the best I have ever had - anywhere! Â They have a fish soup that is rich and fantastic- ( get a cup if you're getting a meal.... hearty!) . Kept poor Rose workin her butt off and she was bringin the drinks and couldn't stop with the food and dealing with a roudy crowd. We filled the place up but enjoyed every minute of it. Great value ,great food. This is not just a pub with pub food. It's a simple place with great food. Our hotel recommended it so thanks Crowne Plaza for the recommendation. Will be back for sure when in the area.
Review Source:Let me start off by saying that I've only ordered from the Kopper Kettle via take out. Â I have never tried the eat in restaurant, mostly because of the lack of desire to sit in an old dingey restaurant. Â (Just look at the other reviews here.) Â That's okay though, I'm totally fine with ordering take out and eating delicious food in the comfort of my own home.
One of my favorite things there is the fried shrimp platter with steak fries. Â The shrimp are huge and are fried just so perfectly... greasy and pleasing. Â Also there are few places in this area that even offer steak fries, let alone good ones. Â They even sprinkle a little old bay seasoning on them... Mmm. Â I have also found myself addicted to their New England clam chowder soup.
Although I usually love what I order, there are a few things I wasn't too impressed with. Â I tried one of their crab cakes a la carte and it was all lump fake stuff. Â If there was any crab in that thing it was hiding among a sea of mushy ickiness. Â I also tried their deviled crab but only because it came with a seafood combination platter. Â It was very similar to the crab cake in that there was nothing crabby about it. Â It was all fake mush and I couldn't wait to take a drink so I could get rid of the flavor.
Overall, their seafood is pretty delicious and it is a treat to order there. Â I will just stay away from the crab and stick with the fried shrimp.
I don't like it. I had the broiled tilapia; it was bland and tasted like it was frozen fish that got cooked in the microwave. $12.95 for three pieces is a good deal if you cover it with tarter or cocktail sauce and don't care about the texture. $17.00 for a fried seafood platter would have been okay had the fish been freshly breaded, not frozen. Seafood is crap here and over cooked; I will definitely not return. I would assume people who are drinking alcohol, who smoke with no taste buds, or don't know what great seafood taste like would say it is good. The crab cake is the size of a silver dollar and the flounder looked and tasted like breaded cardboard. Steak fries are usually good anywhere but I think they haven't changed the fry grease in a long time. The server took a while to great us and only asked "are you ready" as if we were at the diner. The atmosphere just plan felt dirty.
Review Source:This place is a family tradition for my family. Â It's a total dive inside, dark, smoke stained, musty smelling and with duct taped booths. Â However, the food is pretty amazing for the price. Â Crab cakes are great with little filler and just the right blend of crispy breading, as are the amazing fried shrimp. Â I've never tried either of their soups, but my dad never skips the snapper soup and my grandfather loved his Manhattan clam chowder on our last visit. Â Likewise, I've never tried anything here that isn't fried, but my boyfriend enjoyed the broiled platter very much. Â It you're looking for white tableclothes and candlelight, you should keep driving and leave this cozy little place to those of us who prioritize deliciousness over aesthetics. Â If you're looking for a filling and tasty meal in an unpretentious place where the staff are seriously friendly, then this is your stop. Â It loses half a star for a lack of vegetables anywhere, and another half for the unpaved parking lot.
Review Source:Old crusty, dusty, run down charmer with good bones and no shine.  This  restaurant/bar/takeout establishment that has been around at least 40 years and has not changed in the least.  The servers are pleasant and the food is good.  You can't go wrong with the seafood or sandwiches.  I think their burgers and fried shrimp are great.  The crowd is diverse.  They are also known for their snapper soup which I have not tried.  If you're in the area and feel like diving then take the plunge.
Review Source:You have to check this place out!
My boyfriend lives literally down the street from this place so we frequent it weekly. Â It is just a nice quiet place with a bar attached. Â You can take out or stay in. Â It is a nice little seafood restaurant with great neighborhood people. Â Can't ask for better than that.
The prices are extremely reasonable especially for how much food they give you. Â They accept credit cards which they didn't always. Â That always helps.
If you are taking out, GET THE FRIED CHICKEN! Â It is absolutely amazing. Â My boyfriend's parents get it at least once a week and trust me, I never miss that dinner!
My boyfriend and I ate there last night. Â We thought we would try it because the place was packed. Â My boyfriend ordered shrimp cocktail... the shrimp were warm and supposed to be jumbo but were average sized at best. Â He tried a piece of one and so did I. Â They tasted old. Â The waitress was apologetic and took them back. Â She gave some excuse about why the shrimp were warm.... but it was GROSS. Â I had the snapper soup which was delicious. Â I also ordered the mussels, but the mussels were completely cold, so I ate about 2 of the big portion of them. Â My boyfriend got the hot wings and half of them were smothered in sauce, the other half not even touched by the sauce. Â The other thing that really bothered me about the place was that it was DIRTY. Â As you were sitting there a LONG TIME to get your meal, your eyes started to roam and see all the dust and yellow stains around the place. Â I would never go back there again, even though the soup was excellent. Â I was scared to use the bathroom because if that too was dirty, you know the kitchen would be. Â I do not recommend this place and DO NOT order anything raw there.
Review Source:This is one of those places that has been around forever, and they haven't changed at all- an upgrade seems long overdue. The food is all about the seafood, but they have burgers and other stuff too. This is definitely a dive- locals seem to love it. I went for lunch and ordered the Baltimore crabcake sandwich and fries. The crabcake was fried and had a fair share of filler, but tasted ok. It would have been nice if the sandwich came with lettuce and tomato (at least). If you like healthy food, or meals served with vegetables, this is not the place for you.
Review Source:What a DUMP!!. We tried this place which has been around forever once years ago; I think they still have the same table clothes that they had in 1983. Every time you drive by it seems packed, so we figured let's give it another try. What a mistake..Obviously this used to be a smoker's paradise as everything is yellowed stained. The prices seen high for the atmosphere. The beer selection is very basic, Coors Light, Miller, you get the idea. They specialize in seafood so when in Rome. I ordered the broiled flounder at $15.95 with a baked potato and cole slaw, hubby went with a traditional burger platter. The menu indicates there is a longer wait for broiled items, which was not excessive. The food arrived and looked good but, it didn't take long to get closer to the center where the flounder was raw. Â I must say the wait staff was accommodating and apologetic in returning it to the kitchen to "go bake under" Â Of course this was an appetite killer. It returned only to have the reaming portions over cooked and very dry The burger was just OK. The entire atmosphere looks dirty and our instinct was to leave right away but sadly we stayed. I don't see what all those regulars see in this place. I will say the staff is friendly and prompt. but that is the only positive. Bye the way no credit cards accepted. We won't be returning. .
Review Source:I would love to give them another star, because it is great food that counts and the food is very good. The prices are incredibly low, especially for the portions you get.
It is a dive, a local favorite place to eat and drink. The "restaurant" is also the bar and where everyone knows your name, sound familiar? Â Dine in or get take out from their attached building, where you can also grab a six pack of beer.
The food is very good and freshly made. If you order a shrimp salad sandwich, you will eat it for two days! Â It is outstanding! The crab cakes are some of the best I have had, loaded with lump crab meat and very little filler. The fried jumbo shrimp are plump and delicious! Â I usually ask for a crab cake and fried shrimp platter, where you get one nice sized crab cake and plenty of shrimp.
They are known for their snapper soup laced with sherry. The cheesesteaks are good, according to hubby.
This is one place "where you get what you paid for" is an exception to the rule, in fact you get more than you expected. There is little atmosphere, unless you are a people watcher and then there is a lot of atmosphere, laughs and smiles.
They do allow smoking but they have huge smoke-eaters, that seem to do their job. The food is very good and the prices are ridiculously low for the portions and quality of the food.
They only accept cash and they have an ATM inside.  <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thekopperkettle.com%2Findex.html&s=a45ac89ca5c4f95b3cc17584e698a6af6c0a3c6b0c2551ff5968751f005872dc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.thekopperkett…</a>
Restaurant is not handicap accessible, the lower take out shop is.
