Peruvian spin on poultry - right up my alley!
No reservations here, and it looks like they deliver locally. Now that we've tried the food, it'll be added to our go-to list of take-out and delivery venues.
We came here on Valentine's Day evening for a casual dinner date with friends. Â The ambiance is very casual, diner-esque, but if you're cool with that you don't even notice thanks to the service and the quality of the food.
I opted for the chicken burrito which was delicious and a good portion size, along with a size of their yellow corn rice. La Polleria uses all natural Red Farm chicken and it is marinated perfectly.
But the FLAN... oh my, that was sheer decadence. It was light and creamy with a chocolate sauce, and the perfect wrap up to my meal.
And they sell Inca Kola!
I've been here a handful of times now and each time the food is consistently delicious. The dining area is simple and medium in size. There is a counter at the back where you place your order and behind it is the giant oven they cook all the delicious chicken in. Denver as a whole is lacking in ethnic cuisine and this problem is even more prominent in the suburbs south of the city. To find Peruvian food in this area is quite a treat. Let alone Peruvian food that is truly delicious each and every time you go there. The people who work here are very friendly and accommodating making you feel welcome and are more than happy to navigate the menu if you are here for the first time. The prices are very reasonable which encourages frequent repeat trips. If you haven't tried this place out yet and you like chicken you should give it a chance. They have plenty of menu options for people who like their chicken off the bone as well.
Review Source:Once you find this place, it's really a gem. Â My problem with finding it, was that Google Maps on my phone said it was in the Streets of Southglenn or Southwoods or whatever that new-ish outdoorsy mall is. Â Fortunately, I was meeting a friend there who did find it in a strip mall on the corner of Dry Creek and University. (look for PetCo or Albertson's)
I ordered the Inca Wrap special. Â Basically, it's two small flour tortillas filled with roasted chicken and some Aji sauce that I asked for the spicey variety. Â They claim to use all natural Red Bird chickens. Â I'm not sure if they're all natural or not, but they taste like chicken, so that's a plus? Â You also get a side with the special, so I got the Peruvian beans. Â This is a great, healthy feeling meal and along with a fruit juice it came to about $9.00.
Overall, it's a smaller place with just a handful (ok, maybe two handfuls) of tables, the atmosphere felt like a smaller place trying to look Peruvian, (which is fine in my book) and the service was very good. Â You're waited on by the owners and they came around to check that everything was good.
This joint is highly recommended in the book of Terry.
Atmosphere? No. Service? Ok. Food? WOO-HOO!!! Fabulous moist slow cooked chicken from a real Peruvian rotisserie, Yucca fries, mac and cheese, and a chicken empanada were also supporting stars in our take out meal. This is a must try spot that will only disappoint if you were looking for a prom date location. Try it. We will be back and it is worth a trip to get here. Small family run joint in a strip mall. Really good!! No alcohol, but they do have Inca Kola.
Review Source:I lived in Peru for a couple of years while I was a teenager - This is the real deal when it comes to pollo ala brasa. Â All the sides I've had are pretty good too, especially the fries. Â Even my kids like the food here! Â The salad leaves something to be desired, it's very plain, but I can't say it's not what I'd expect with a Peruvian meal anyway. Â
If you haven't tried the chica morada you're missing out! Â They make it fresh and it's some of the best I've had in a long time.
Starting to become regulars at La Polleria and it's because we were hooked by our first experience.
When we first arrived and ordered we were told that the sides would take a little longer because they were just blanching the fries. This was a good sign considering they were doing a double fry and blanch on fresh potatoes. The fries were killer. Then I saw the cream come out for the mac and cheese and go straight into the pan. The homemade mac and cheese was perfect.
For the chicken I would definitely recommend getting the dark meat because the white can tend to be dry. Make sure to get both sauces and try them.
Also, do not leave without the flan. Extremely reasonably priced, but more important, delicious.
I haven't ever had anything other than the quarter dark for awhile but I've heard a lot of people talk glowingly about the Inca wrap.
I have been here 3 times now, and I absolutely love their chicken. I've had the rotissere dark chicken twice, and both times it was cooked to perfection. Last time I had the Pollo Saltado, which was very good, but I like the roasted/rotissere better. All the sides I've tried are very good (even the most basic baked potato). Family owned and operated by this very friendly guy and his sons. Try the Inca Kola....different and good!
Review Source:We found a coupon at home so we tried this place for take out . Called ahead of time so there was minimal wait for my food. Awesome Chicken! Very moist and tasty. The dipping sauce is also tasty. I went for the mild as I have people at home that is not fond of spicy. The Mac and Cheese was also quite tasty.
Review Source:La Polleria is absolutely fantastic! I've become a frequent patron for both the food and the service. I'm a huge fan of the spicy ranch Inca wraps with a side of fries and spicy aji. Don't sleep on the flan either, as it is phenomenal. For beverages, you can choose from any of the Jarritos flavors, a Peruvian soda called Inca cola, Mexican Coca Cola (with real sugar - the best), and standard fountain sodas. La Polleria is family owned and operated and you will always be welcomed with a smile. Peruvian music plays in the background which adds to the dining experience. Do yourself a favor and visit La Polleria - I'd bet money that you will return.
Review Source:Oh my gods the creepy chicken mannekin outside will haunt my dreams!!!
After giving the chicken mannekin a wide birth upon entering the store we were greeted with a typical sit-down/fast-food environment. Â The staff was friendly and helpful. Â We ordered the half chicken meal and split it between the two of us. Â For the price, the chicken was tasty, as was the side of corn, and fries. Â I wouldn't make a special trip for this place, but if I'm in the area I wouldn't mind coming back.
This polleria is a family owned and run restaurant that know how to do pollo right. Immediately upon entering, you are greeted by the music of the Andes and transported to another place. Rather than the typical rude teenagers that you get at fast food restaurants, you are greeted with a warm smile by the matriarch of the family who helps you through your options. The food is fresh and served fast. As far as taste, beat pollo from Peru I have had. I highly recommend this polleria.
Review Source:Rave reviews and on my way home! Â Why not give this place a chance. Walked in at 5. One other person in the place. Told me it would be a ten minute wait because the chicken wasnt quite ready. Â Here I am 30 minutes later and still no food. One would think they would have food ready at the dinner hour. Seven groups here now. No one has food. No communication from the gentleman behind the counter. Just staring at the tickets. Two more people. No food. 35 minutes. No food. No communication. 45 minutes after I walked in the door a young handed me a bag and said "there you go. This chicken better be good. Â The chicken was good. Â Side dishes were just so so. Â Don't really feel like I gave the food a chance after such a bad experience waiting. Â
Hmmm.......maybe will give them another go.
When traveling in Peru it is hard to not fall in love with some of the best chicken I have had in my life; pollo la brasa. Since it cooked in a large rotisserie oven, I had given up on trying to find a Peruvian resturant in Denver that makes it authentically or even serves it at all. But then I found La Polleria!! They specialize in pollo la brasa and make it as good as I remember it in Peru! Every time I have I been to La Polleria the chicken is nice and fresh and accompanied by all my favorite Peruvian sides.
Besides the food, the resturant seems to stay busy, but I have yet to have to wait long for my meal. La Polleria is also a very clean casual resturant, and ran by a wonderful family that is very warm and welcoming.
I am so happy to have found this unique little gem that is one of a kind in Denver!
After looking for some great South American eateries in the area and all the great reviews on Yelp, our family decided to try La Polleria.
All the previous 5 star reviews are spot on. Â La Polleria is fabulous.
My husband invited company over for dinner, and I didn't feel like cooking, so I suggested driving all the way from East Centennial area (off Parker Rd) to get the chicken. Â Well, the drive was way worth it. Â We ordered 2 whole chickens, the yellow rice with corn, and white cheddar mac and cheese...all to go. Â Oh yum!!!!
The chicken has a wonderful smokey flavor and perfectly seasoned. Â It was moist and juicy but definitely cooked through. Â The aroma from the chicken is to die for. Â When we brought the chicken home, the scent filled our kitchen and dining area that made our mouths water.
The yellow rice with corn is reminiscent of my BFF's cooking...she is a native Bolivian, and the South Americans know how to make light, fluffy, and flavorful rice. Â Don't ask me how they season the rice, but it is wonderful.
The white cheddar mac and cheese is a real comfort food. Â Very savory and yummy.
Our guests were blown away by the food.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. Â The restaurant is either eat-in or take-out. Â It is very clean. Â And, I particularly liked the photo of the owner and his sons at Machu Picchu. Â They also offer a wide variety of Latin soft drinks that appealed to my son who has spent time in Costa Rica.
I'm writing this review after our 2nd visit there. Â Again, we did take-out. Â This time we ordered 2 whole chickens. Â One for dinner and the other to freeze so we won't have to make the long drive.
Instead of mac and cheese, we ordered the french fries. Â OMG...they are the best fries we've tasted. Â
Also, ordered the cole slaw...very good, too. Â My son thinks there's just a dab of honey mustard in it??? Â Don't know, but it's flavorful.
The ahi sauce is great, too. Â Green is really, really hot. Â Yellow is spicey, too, but not that spicey. Â I love the yellow sauce for dipping the chicken and fries. Â Also, I liked drizzling just a little on the rice.
Wherever you live in the Denver area, it is well worth the drive to experience the food, which BTW is very reasonably priced.
Happy food!
Okay so I don't give five stars away to just anyone but this place came very very close to receiving one from me. It was a mere technicality perhaps so I may revise this in the near future and forgive the one thing that stood out. Before I get to that one thing...Let me RAVE!

REVISION:(EARNED THEIR 5TH START WITH ME!) I made a second visit to La Polleria last night...I had to bump this to 5 stars. First off I have been literally dreaming about the chicken. YES really!.
This trip I tried the coleslaw instead of the salad and found it was one of the best I have ever had. Great flavor and they didn't skimp at all on the portion. As usual the yukon gold french fries were to die for. Had to try a little something special at the end of the meal so I can now also recommend their "alfajores" Wonderful little shortbread cookie with caramel filling.

It was my wife's urgings that we try it one of those "hey, I've been meaning to check that place out and it's lunchtime now so let's do it now" kind of things. The location is in a strip mall kind of setting with an Albertson's grocery store so that initially made me skeptical. Â I suppose also part of my initial judging a book by it's cover can be blamed on "guilt by association". The location is next door to a CiCi's Pizza. Which I am not a big fan of. Let me say now..I apologize for pre-judging based on that factor. This nice little family run mom and pop is nothing like a corporate food factory. They really care about serving a quality meal.
And now a word about the food... What a find! I am so excited that this place is so close to where we live. I have never before today had or considered having Peruvian food. This place is a "polleria" (Which the owner says is the equivalent of a "pizzeria for chicken" and very common in Peru.
The chicken is absolutely wonderful! Â They have a special oven that bakes the chicken with mesquite charcoal kind of rotisserie style only the juices drop down and are collected in a pan below and therefore never drip into the coals and create that burned flavoring. Â So that said you get a tender, slow baked chicken with the most wonderful smokey flavoring. The owner tells us that the grease drippings are collected for bio fuel, COOL!
This was one of the best lunches I have had out in a long time. I went with a 1/4 dark meat chicken serving with Yukon Gold potato french fries and a salad. This is one of several combos offered and includes a soda fountain drink too!
A word about the fries. Â These were the perfect thing with the smokey chicken. It made me think about how quickly we usually are so passive and uncaring about potatoes used in our french fries. These potatoes have a great flavor and pair so well with the chicken as I've said.
Back to the Chicken. Â The chicken is served with a side of dipping sauce. I went with the mild and even this has a delicate and wonderful bite. Wonderful flavors and complimented the smokey flavors. I loved dipping the fries into the sauce too.
So I guess I have to now say why I didn't go full 5 stars. Â It was the so-so normal salad. Iceberg lettuce with a nice spread of cucumber, tomatoes and some grated carrots. I guess the thing for me about this is that I was wowed by everything else and the salad was kind of an afterthought to add some greens. I would love to have the salad be a mixed greens like salad with a more rustic feel and more flavor than iceberg lettuce.
That said, I will be coming back! I love this place. I don't come for the salad but I'll be walking in the door for the chicken and fries and maybe next time I'll leave some room for flan!
I'll re-review after I make my second visit.
The service: I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful customer service provided by this small restaurants husband and wife team. Â I am not certain, but there son may work there as well. We were greeted, and asked if we had been here before and given a description of the food and oven.
The food: I had the 1/4 white meat chicken (breast with wing attached),side salad, and fries. Â The chicken was well seasoned and had a flavor, Peruvian, that I was unaccustomed to. Â For white meat it was tender and still somewhat juicy, not the most juicy, but nothing to scoff at either. Â The spicy aji sauce was good, but if I go back I'll try the mild as it was somewhat overpowering to the chicken which was flavorful in its own right.
The fries were the highlight I think they are deep fried in magical oil, it was as though they had a slight sweetness that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Also, for the win the Peruvian soda was good, I would liken it to cream soda with a splash of mountain dew, but that's not exactly accurate. I'm not big on mountain dew, but enjoyed this quite a bit.
Upon checking in on yelp i noticed that flan was free with a purchase of twenty dollars or more with a yelp check in, so in addition to my meal and my lovely ladies meal we were still just under twenty bucks........then I spotted another dessert, the antitole (sp?) Â Of the two desserts, the winner was the flan, which was a nice free surprise.
An absolute gem, and one of my new favorite places to eat lunch and dinner. The rotisserie chicken is cooked to perfection-juicy, tender, and delightfully seasoned. Chicken can be ordered off the bone upon request. The aji chill sauce is spicy and delicious with the chicken and the rice, my favorite side dish. Â The yellow rice sprinkled with corn is so good. La Polleria also offers baked potatoes, tornado mac and cheese, and french fries - all great. You can also get Inca cola here! Last but not least is dessert. The Alfajores are the best cookies I have ever had-filled with dolce de leche, the buttery cookies melt in your mouth. The flan is quite a treat as well. Finally, the owners are lovely-they are super friendly and always helpful. Don't forget to check in for a free flan with $20 purchase! You won't regret checking out La Polleria.
Review Source:I really like this place, everything is made from scratch, and it's really tasty! The owner is very health conscious, the chicken is from local ranch without any hermon or preservative. They even made with their own ranch sauce from butter milk, you can taste the freshness of the vegetable with that! They have a very interesting shaped pasta that I planed to try next time! As for the chicken, it's really full of flavor! The price is really reasonable price, consider that you get organic chicken, and every thing made from scratch!
Review Source:Seriously good stuff! I've been here a half a dozen times and never been disappointed. The first time I took my sister for lunch she asked, with her mouth full if we could come back for dinner. Yeah, it's that good. The fries are yummy, and the flan is the BEST I've ever had. Go get charcoal grilled chicken- your taste buds will thank you!
Review Source:AWESOME FOOD!! MUST ALSO TRY THE FRIES!!!! AND MARACUYA (Peruvian fruit drink) Bob (owner) is very friendly. I've been taking friends and family here for a while now and I've been blown away by they great service and Awesome Food!!! This is very close to a true Polleria in Lima Peru like... "Norkies" or "Pardos" whom are very popular Pollerias in Lima Peru. This definitely beats Los Cabos or any other Peruvian restaurant that serves Pollo a la brasa.. Thank you so MUCH BOB for opening this Great restaurant.
Review Source:Armed with the Valpak coupons I printed out from their website, I was determined to find out what distinguishes La Polleria's Peruvian chicken from any other chicken place. Â I wasn't disappointed. Â A friend and I ordered the family meal for two for only $20 and were served a feast. Â
The chicken is slow roasted in their special rotisserie oven heated by mesquite charcoal, which seals in all the flavorful juices and gives the meat a pleasantly smoky aroma. Â From what I could tell, the spices were derived from a well-balanced blend of oregano, cumin, rosemary and pepper. Â It was fantastic and perfectly cooked.
In addition to the chicken, we received generous sides of salad and a delicious mac n' cheese that was creamy and cheesy, but still very light and fluffy.
I can't wait to go back for another lunch outing. Â I just hope the location, which is tucked away in a nondescript strip mall, doesn't affect their business.
La Polleria is simply great and I'll stand by my claim that they serve the best chicken in Denver.
(Don't forget to ask for extra aji sauce. Â It's liquid crack.)
Pollo la brasa.....I had big expectations for this place. Â So we went for lunch one day.
Let me preface by saying my meal was good, it was a bit expensive for the serving size, but I'm not against paying more for something good.
Strike one - They are out of dark meat. Â It's noon...how do you run out already.
Strike two - 3 of the 4 orders are wrong in some form
Strike three - the replacement meal for one of us was wrong the second time.
All in all, the food was pretty good it just left us wishing we went somewhere else. Â The aji is pretty good, but even though we each ordered one only 2 of the 4 received one and when we asked for the rest they wanted to charge us for the aji we already ordered.
All in all if you are in the neighborhood it's good chicken, but IMO it's not worth a special trip.
Bummer.
Bought a http://homerun.com/deal/… coupon which got me 20 bucks worth of purchasing power for 10 bucks. The food was VERY tasty and well prepared the prices are quite reasonable. The AJI sauce that goes with the chicken is amazing. I recommend the spicier green variety. We finished up with the Alfajores which is "flour cookies filled with manjarblanco (creamy caramel spread) dusted with confectioners' sugar." YUM!!
Review Source:Absolutely love the food at La Polleria. Â Since I discovered this place two weeks ago, I have been back 3 times. Â Their spiced Peruvian rotisserie roasted chicken is so amazingly good! Â The authentic spices are unique, a little spicy, and super flavorful. Â I get a quarter white meat plate with two sides. They do a made to order mac & cheese that is rich and creamy or try the yellow rice with corn and dump on some of the Aji sauce. Â The tossed salad is also fresh and has home made dressing. Â Husband, wife and two teen aged son run the place and are really the nicest people. Â The dining area is small and nothing fancy, but my o' my the food is fantastic!
Review Source:Incredible. Â I had never tried "Peruvian Style" chicken before so I thought I'd give it a whirl (I saw their awning pop up a little while ago - located on the NE corner of University and Dry Creek and finally stopped in). Â Expecting your typical rotisserie chicken, I was pleasantly surprised to find it perfectly cooked (crispy outside and juicy inside) with a great taste unlike I've had before. Â I had their fries which were great (and not greasy) and the side salad was fresh with a great, light dressing. Â They have a few other dishes that I'll have to try next time. Â The staff is very friendly and had a chance to chat about what makes it "Peruvian". Â The rotisserie oven that they brought up from Peru is specially made with bricks and cooked with charcoal and set up in a way to make it never flare up. Â It did its job perfectly from what I could tell and their seasonings were just right. Â I decided to treat myself to some flan and a coffee afterward. Â Wow, get the flan. Â Best I have ever had even compared to your high-end restaurants that you'd be paying $9 for it (compared to only $2.50 at La Polleria).
I'll be bringing my coworkers back to give it a taste and will try to get our office manager to try catering their service for upcoming staff meetings as a nice change.
Definitely worth the stop.
We had been anticipating the opening for some time, and suddenly there it was. Â The Pollo a la brasa there is exquisite, and the accompanying fries were great. Â Ask for the special aji (hot sauce) to go with the chicken. Â It was a great Peruvian meal. Â Did not wash it down with Inca Cola this time, but they have that too. Â
We tried the alfajores for a dessert, and those were great too.
Who knew I've been looking for Peruvian chicken all my life? Really who knew. I loved it. This will be a frequent lunch and meeting spot I can tell you.
Clearly authentic in their recipe, (the owners have been able to successfully put on the market something their family used to have only to themselves) their rotisserie chicken is very good food, quickly made, well-served at a modest price.
I was surprised that they made no big deal about this little dish of what they call "Aji" (pronounced, ahee I think) that they brought to our table... a spicy dipping sauce made out of local and I think imported chile peppers... this made the already great chicken even better. We even used it for our fries. Great stuff. They should bottle and sell it.
Pollo a la brasa rocks! Â -- spiced Peruvian roast chicken which is both succulent and crispy at the same time. Â Â I don't normally visit and review a place in their first week, but it just so happened that I was driving by and had to check it out, as there isn't much more mouth-watering to me than a rotisserie chicken with a plate of french fries to tear into. Â I used to live in Washington DC and there was a Peruvian chicken place in the Virginia suburbs called El Pollo Rico which made some of the best roast chicken I've ever had and had consistent lines out the door. Â La Polleria's chicken is just as good -- well-seasoned, crispy skinned, and juicy. Â
The family-run business has staked their claim on our dining wallets as an authentic Peruvian chicken roaster with a charcoal fired oven, imported from the homeland. The chicken comes with two sides; the golden orange yukon fries are a nice complement; they are crunchy fried, sort of like the fries you get in Europe. The rice would be the more traditional side in Peru, but here it was a little dry. The chicken is served with a homemade green spicy sauce; I didn't catch the name, but I think it had some cilantro and peppers. Delish. Did not have time to try anything else on the menu, but they had empanadas and some other treats. There were a couple of hitches in service, but nothing that won't be ironed out after they get going. For example, I saw them send someone away because they ran out of chicken after lunch. I would think that they would have roasted a huge excess of chickens in the first few days of service so that this kind of embarrassing situation would not happen. Also, their plates are really small, so they can't even fit the two sides that you order with your chicken. I don't understand why you'd want such small plates. I can overlook all these annoyances when the chicken is so good. If you like rotisserie roasted chicken Peruvian-style, you have to give La Polleria a try.
