    Funny story.
Our waitress was really grumpy as well. I ordered a custom breakfast, a cross between a weed bed and a garden bed, plus 4 vegetable ingredients versus the standard 3.  Seemed to make both the waitress and the cook upset. It was awesome by the way.  I joked that we should call it a "weedy garden". Seemed in line with the menu theme   Still the cook came out to see me and and was clearly not happy and made it clear they would not be adding a "weedy garden" to the menu.
So much for a Customer centric experience.  I dare you to order a "weedy garden". You will love it, if not the help. They are down right nasty old ladies.

Best breakfast in the Northwoods!!  I highly recommend the "Weedbed", and their bread is amazing!  Get there early though, it fills up fast!

"LPI" is by far the BEST  breakfast you will ever have in your life. Every breakfast item on the menue is to die for.
They use only the best ingredients plus whatever other magic they do back in the kitchen to bring you your piece of heaven on a plate.
    The staff is friendly.
The prices, your on vacation, enjoy yourself,
"Diners Drive-in & Dives" should be here.
I'm getting hungry writing this review.

Great Breakfast place in the Northwoods. I highly recommend trying the bloody mary and the weedbed, a choice of egg, meat, cheese or sauce and toast over an order of hashbrowns. I recommend the scrambled with ham and hollandaise version! Great assortment of breakfast items and delicious pies to go! During event or holiday weekends get in the door before 830 am or be prepared to wait! Only wish they would get WIFI!

This place is well known by the locals and visitors as a GREAT breakfast place. And they are all spot on!  The weedbed dish (hash browns, eggs, and meat) is awesome and the toast is out of this world. I especially enjoyed the raisin bread toast every time!  But their dinners are just as good as the breakfasts. When I gave my wife the choice of restaurants for our anniversary dinner, she didn't hesitate at all. This place beat out the lobster tails special at the casino...and beat it out they did! The owner took some extra time to ensure our anniversary dinner was extra special.  That kind of care and personal attention make this an easy choice for every meal! Five Stars!

sssssshhhhhhh Don't tell any more people about this place! Best breakfast restaurant period. The food and the service are top notch. Gotta love a family owned and run business that takes pride in how hard they work to keep up with it's reputation. Just remember it's cash only. "The Placid" is a must every time we are in town!

Had not been to Lake Placid in a long while, so went for breakfast when family were here.  Food was great and so was the service.  The cinnamon roll french toast was simply amazing!  You can now buy bread and doughnuts to go!  Write your name on the board and wait to be seated for a meal you will remember....

Breakfast. 5 stars matched against anyone anywhere.  A good and imaginative kitchen that is blessed with great ingredients (sausage!).  They also really know how to bake. Bread. Pies. Very unpretentious service and an old north woods building disguise the greatness of the food.

Just got back from the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin and need to update this little charm!  As you know (if you are reading this, YOU know) that the Friday Fish Fry is a really big deal.  We had FFF this year at the Inn and it was FANTASTIC.  Three types of fish offered and they were very lightly breaded and delectable!!!  Hey ... I can get deep fried cod at McD's ... this is the place to go - lake perch, bluegill and walleye.  Pick one or do a triple-play!  NEW this year is homemade pizza and my hubby is not a fish fan, so he had the pizza -- and just have to share that they do an amazing pizza!  You know us "Chicagoans" are kind of fussy about our ZA ... the pizza is better than any pizza offered up in that area.  Check 'em out and say Hi to Denise - she works long and hard and keeps that place around for us all!

Lake Placid Inn is one of our must stops when we are Up North.  The French Toast is the best around.  The American Fries with Onions are also amazing!

We came here after reading the reviews and it's every bit as good as everyone says. I had the French toast with fresh strawberries and it was the best I've ever had.  The sausages are incredibly delicious and melt in your mouth.  My partner had an omelette and bloody mary which were fantastic too. Only minor issue was the coffee was only so-so.

You can tell they only use top grade ingredients and everything is fresh and homemade. Really the best breakfast we've had in a lonnnng time. And the service was friendly and helpful too.

We want to come back and try the dinners. The menu looked delicious!

Best breakfast in the northwoods.  The french toast is crazy-good, but I am currently hooked on the Weedbed.  I always bring friends here when they visit the Northwoods and it's the only place EVERYone always mentions after we get back they always mention Placid as being one of their faves.  The serivce is always nice and attentive.  given most of the time the place is packed (esp in those summer months) and it can get hectic.  One thing for sure? Go hungry.

My hub's cousin warned us that sometimes the servers here get a little snippy with the customers and that one particular server was like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Oh great, all I could picture was someone taking my plate away and yelling "No Fish Fry for YOU!" if I didn't order correctly. The hubs got an eye-roll from the waitress when he started cracking unfunny jokes as small talk so I told him to shut-it because I was HUNGRY and wanted my Wisconsin Fish Fry!!!

The eye-roll was really the worst of it, our waitress soon warmed up and smiled and even told us to come back for breakfast one of these days--which we happily did! This little place summed up Minocqua for me--cozy log cabin feel, nice old-timey bar (including the old-timey bartender), fish/fishing/lake decor on the walls, family friendly and price reasonable.

The Friday Fish Fry was wonderful. There were a few different choices--blue gill, walleye and cod. We got the cod--battered and fried. Huge servings and served piping hot! The fish fry dinner came with a choice of potato (fries or baked) and the salad bar. The salad bar was really just green leafy lettuce, some carrots, olives, potato salad, coleslaw and 3 different kinds of dressings. But it was all fresh.

We came back a few days later for the breakfast. They do something called the "muckraker". It's similar to a skillet. The base is hasbrown potatoes, topped with one or two eggs and then you get a choice of hollendaise sauce or sausage gravy to top it all off. Hollendaise sauce is like my crack so I had to order it. The dish was delish! The side of toast they serve with it is their home-made bread, fluffy and huge! The coffee was a little weak but still piping hot and plentiful. Thank goodness we walked from our cabin, we needed to really stretch our legs after that meal!

There are some funny signs below the windows (do not play with the windows) and in the menu (please do not let your children play with the condiments on the table, they are for the customer's use). Let's just say I know the back-story behind those signs..the kid is not that bad, really.

This is no ordinary restaurant. When I told my friends I was taking the family to Minocqua, no less than four people told me that we HAD to go to the Lake Placid Inn.

What a great place. The Owner, Denise, welcomed us when we came in and remembered our names for our entire visit. This is no ordinary restaurant. When we sat down, I immediately noted the "no credit cards" annotation on the menu. A bit surprised, I asked the owner where I could find an ATM... Her response, there isn't one near by, you can just bring the cash by later... and this was before we even ordered!

We were told by our friends that the food was HUGE, so order light... and it was! We all ordered French Toast and a side of bacon. The French Toast came particularly highly reccomended due to it's size and the fact that's it's made from homemade bread.

After ordering, Denise brought out some coffee and complimentary pastries. Next came the size-of-your-head French Toast (see included picture) and the thick cut bacon. SO GOOD!!! Even though it sounds like a small order, we couldn't even finish our meals. At the end, Denise took our six year old over the prize drawer for some free candy treats.

The food was great, the prices were very reasonable and the personal touch service was to be comended. Ifyou are ever in the Northwoods, make sue not to miss this restaurant. And make sure to tell then the SCJ'ers from Racine sent you.
