    I attended this place for an event. The staff was very friendly and the food was perfect. The restaturant is superbusy. Price was decent. Plenty of parking and very attentive staff. They have security.

    Came here with my family and we are never going back. The service sucked, and the food was whatever. I ordered a seafood dish and it kind of grossed me out. The fish had a weird odor and the rice was tasteless. Me and my brother had a stomach ache after leaving.
    Oh by the way, any Mexican family has a better salsa in their fridge than the salsa being served at this place.

    I have been here numerous times over the years (my in laws love it). The breakfast is pretty yummy if your looking a typical greasy Mexican breakfast, but the lunch & dinner is just okay. I've tried a few different things but usually resort to the tampiquena because the steak is decent. The only seafood I have tried is their shrimp cocktail which is decent. The rice isn't that good either. Took away a star because some of the plates and side items (unspicey salsa!?) are bland and sometimes the place is loud when its packed and instead of just leaving the music and TV's at a regular volume they turn it up even higher making the situation even worse.

    I came here with people who said this place was way better than one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, Nuevo Leon in Pilsen. I had chicken and shrimp fajitas, and they were just Ok. Personally, I think that part of the fun of ordering fajitas is when they come sizzling on a hot plate, and they just came normal. There weren't enough grilled peppers and onions, and their rice wasn't that good, either. So my meal was just "eh." I normally order chicken enchiladas at most Mexican places, and so I regret not ordering that to compare to other restaurants.

    Ok, a few compliments: 1) I was surprised they gave me enough shrimp, and the shrimp was very delicious. This is probably the place to go to for seafood; everyone I went with ordered shrimp. 2) They make their corn tortillas there, and they are very good. 3) Their guacamole is very good, but it's just guacamole. I would never come allll the way to the South side just for guacamole.

    Finally, I was very, very excited to see that they had mamey milkshakes because I hadn't had mamay-flavored ice cream since the last time I was in Mexico. It was the absolute worst milkshake ever. It only had a very tiny hint of mamey and just tasted like really thick milk. My mom, who loves mamey, thought it was disgusting. I had 2 sips and threw the rest out. Being so let down by the milkshake pretty much ruined my whole experience.

    Honestly, especially since I live on the North side, I'll never come back here again. I'll stick to Nuevo Leon and Cafe El Tapatio.

    The tortillas are very impressive, indeed.  As for the rest, it's middling to bad:

    (1) the grilled meat for my tacos was only alright -- neither good nor bad;
    (2) the nacho chips are either recycled or there is cross-contamination between the chips being discarded and new ones being put in the baskets (I found a chip that had obviously been used before in my second basket of chips) -- that's a bit gross; and
    (3) once I finished my meal, my waitress took away most of my dirty plates and then appeared to ignore me for the better part of 30 minutes; I had to ask another waitress to get my bill.  Odd, but whatever.

    I won't be back.

    I know tacos, from Lengua to Cecina  This is one of my favorite places. I have been to Zacatacos, Pacos, street carts, Maxwell street,  I have been to Pilsen and the West side, the North side,  etc. These are my Faves.

     The staff does not speak very good English and if you try to show off your 6 words of Spanglish they will just start talking to you like you are their Hermano.  The staff is always smiling and laughing,  a welcome sight, the vibe is nice although the big screen will usually be airing the prime time soaps at about 75 decibels.

      What seperates Las Brisas from all the others is La Senora, every time I walk to the back door I take a peek into the kitchen and there she is, making tortillas by hand,  she makes them for every order to order, they are tender and almost have the texture of wheat, but with that earthy sweet corn taste.  One of the best tortillas I have ever had consistently. Their salsa is as unique as the smiling attitude, The sign outside reads salsa de molcajete, that means old school.  How old? About a couple thousand years of tradition.  Most home cooks and restaurant cooks use blenders for their salsa, Brisas uses a morter and pestle, the salsa is still hot, I don't think it is the best salsa by any stretch of the imagination, but it is beautiful and I am in love with the concept of someone  bashing chiles, tomatoes, and garlic together just for me.

       The menu is large, excellent Shrimp dishes, the steak dishes are great with ample sides, but the standouts are the enchiladas estilo Guerero(sic) fresh handmade tortillas with chicken and a bright red chile sauce and just a sprinkle of aged cheese, served with rice that is always fresh and not all crunchy and some of the best refritos ever.  The refried beans are also representative of the detail in this restaurant, you can taste the toasted onion and the texture is always creamy instead of pasty, delicioso.

    As far as the Tacos go, the el pastor is a no brainer, tender crispy roasted pork with just a hint of  pineapple wrapped in the aforementioned freshly made tortilla and garnished with the ubiquitous cilantro and onions, simple and absolute perfection. I have eaten here 20 times and have had only  one dissapointment, the dish escapes me, too much good to dwell on the negatives. The only thing I would stray away from is the chicken tacos, they seem mundane in comparison, besides why would you eat chicken tacos?  Other good choices, Enchiladas mole poblano, carne asada, taco de lengua(tongue)
       To put this into perspective, if I had to chose one taco from the Chicago area to eat before I died it would be the El Pastor from Las Brisas Del Mare.
     One word of caution, if you order a beer, ask for no salt, unless you like a lot of salt on the rim.  So please go now eat Tacos with hand made tortillas, drink Modelo with lime and be smiled at.
