Taqueria Huandacareo

This place never lets me down. Probably the best carnitas you can find but you should get there well before noon on the weekends because they run out fast with all the takeout orders. The chicharron is also great....If you have time to sit and eat in the restaurant, do so. They go the extra mile of bringing 3-4 different salsas, all the trimmings that traditionally go with your order.  Great family run business and very friendly. They get their baked goods from right next store, always fresh.

Just had lunch there yesterday. Always tops in my book for carnitas!

This is one of those places you either walk or drive by and you are left thinking:

hmm that joint looks pretty good and no im not talking about Mary Jane.

So my family and I went one day and I figured that considering that they have fresh Chicharrón on display in the front window that this place might be decent or at least average and to be frank it was disappointing.

I did not order any chicharrón neither did any members of my family so instead I ordered a gordita of carne asada (skirt steak) and a taco of cabeza (cow head) and a pop. Please note: I love Mexican food and considering that i consider Chicago to have the most authentic Mexican food around (this is coming from someone who has eaten all kinds of Mexican food in the north and south of Mexico) so when I eat out in a new Mexican joint I have moderate to high expectations.

Sadly this joint failed miserably

The masa (corn) that was used on the Gordita was bland and terrible and the cheese and meat combo was uninspired. However the lone bright spot was the taco de cabeza which had plentiful meat and good cilantro and the soda pop was well a soda pop.The service was damn slow considering the few customers at this joint (my family and one old couple next to us) and the decor was modest and appropriate. But I just cannot shake how average everything was but hey you can't win em all right?

I will reserve judgment on one angle which is the chicharrón since many people where taking huge pieces to go so I will update when I can.

Overall: Aside from the chicharrón and the tacos de cabeza I cannot really recommend this place and considering the HUGE options all over the city I don't think this place will ever become a regular or a focal point for me or my family.
