As it has been pointed out by several others before, this is one of the few places left in town where you can smoke inside. Â You can smoke at your tables when eating dinner. Â So, keep that in mind when you go there.
Personally, I don't smoke (anymore), but my husband likes to smoke while having a drink, so we come here from time to time.
The drinks are cheap and the beer selection is pretty broad.
The food is actually surprisingly tasty. Â When you first walk in, you'll get hit with a wave of old bar/smoke smell. Â You wouldn't expect the food to be even edible, but it's actually pretty good.
The wings are tasty and spicy. Â We got the medium and they definitely packed a punch. Â Their burgers are delicious and several of their sandwiches are worth coming back for, too. Â I like the fried chicken wrap.
They also have trivia night here, so all in all this is a fun place to come have a drink, grab a bite to eat and hang out with your local crowd.
Before I dive into my review of Laseter's Tavern... I'll note one important thing for you:
This is a smoky dive bar... period! Â Don't waste your time if you can't handle (a) smoky or (b) dive bars.
That out of the way, I'll hit what else you wanna know:
- Good standard bar grub
- Decent prices (especially for the area)
- Great beer selection with an up-to-date chalk board
- Cigar friendly
- Consistently attentive service
- Programmer has great taste in music
Not much else to add to that! Â We've been back, a few times now, and even sat in on their trivia night once (a good time). Â If the smokiness won't bug you (please -- seriously -- read up first and save us the review where you complain about it), stop in and grab a pint; you'll be back, again, if you do!
Lemon Pepper wings are my favorite and to date, Laseters are the very bestest in town. Â How do I explain this? Â Lemon Pepper wings should not be gooey or greasy - they should be dry, almost powdery. Â The lemon should almost make you pucker with the pepper kicking in with that spicy punch. Â Laseters reads my mind. Â YUM.
This was after a night of beer tasting and popcorn eating, so we needed some food and wings were mentioned and I was told by a reliable source that these were the best wings. Â Little did Heidi know that she and I had the same love for the Lemon Peppery goodness of non-Buffalo wings.
I also ordered some Fried Mozzarella. Â I love me some cheese, especially when fried and served with a yummy marinara sauce. Â But how do I explain this - these are the largest, almost obnoxiously so, mozzarella sticks. Â And they are delish. Â But be forewarned - you have to be careful when picking them up when they are hot as they will break right in half. Â They are also some of the gooiest cheese sticks around. Â So good.
I will say, this place is super smokey. I am not a fan of the smokey. No matter how good the wings are, I could not stay here for long. Â Next time I might opt for take out - I just hope the wings are as good when on the go.
I just wanted to update this because it's been a long time and I recently visited Laseter's again.
Service was great this last time, though I can't remember a time where we had particularly bad service anyway. Our waiter was on top of filling drinks and checking on us when a newbie arrived.
The wings are excellent! Â Good price, super tasty, great value.. The lemon pepper are so delish. They're gritty-flavored like I like, not super greasy. Â
We also had fried mozzarella sticks, which were pretty good. Â They're SO HUGE (in a good way) if you pick 'em up before they're cool, they'll probably break in half, like they did for us.
.....But. It. Is. So. Smokey. Â A bit too smokey for me to be there too long. Â So, be prepared or order to-go! If you call in, they're pretty quick.
I previously gave them 3 stars in '08, but their wings are still top notch - In fact, I don't think much has changed in the 5ish years I've been going, and consistency is a good thing. So, I'm bumping 'em up!
I have been aware of this place for a long time and always wanted to give it a try. Â I had an opportunity last Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised.
I am a craft beer fan and was glad to see that they had my favorite drafts on tap. Â They also have quite a few that looked interesting that I haven't tried yet. Â Their selection is above average for sports bars.
I was more pleased when I found the price. Â $4.50 is an excellent price for 20 oz. craft beers from the tap.
The service was excellent, with a number of servers around who were very attentive.
The only let down was the food. Â The roast beef sandwich I ordered with fries was just average, but then the price was average as well.
I did not find the place excessively smoky when I went, contrary to what some other reviewers have stated.
Laseters is a consistent lunch spot for me. Â I've been a few times now and each time everything is pretty spot on. Â
If you aren't a smoker or if you really hate cigarette smoke don't bother coming here. Â They do have a non-smoking area but it's an open air setting so you're smelling it anyway. Â I don't smoke but I don't mind going here for a good burger. Â
There are plenty of TVs if you want to get sucked into the news or sports while you munch. Â
The servers have always been very pleasant and strive to make sure you're well taken care of.
Yes, I would recommend Laseters and I'm looking forward to going back for another burger :)
Generous Portions, really excellent food at a reasonable price for a neighborhood sportsbar. Yes, it's a little smoky, but who cares? Its a bar, get over it!
Friendly staff, and a "regular neigborhood crowd". The club sandwich is huge, and the country fried steak is one of the best I have ever had, seriously.
Unpretentious and fun.
I had no idea this place even existed until one of my good friends took me here. Â It's right at the intersection of Cobb Pkwy and Paces Ferry (river side). Â You can tell this place has been around, and is pretty much one of the regular spots. Â My friend, well she's a beautiful blonde, so I find it funny she is a regular here (as the normal demographic is middle aged men). Â
She gets taken care of though, and same with the people she is with- I can dig it. Â A bunch of TVs, smoking, and arcades fill this place up. Â It is what the name says it is- a tavern. Â
They have a full bar, however, sometimes it took a while to get my drinks filled (I could have had 5 drinks instead of 3 if they would have noticed fattys empty glass). Â Unfortunately we only came to pregame (can't even remember where we went after, how sad). Â
If you are in the area and need a drink, it's worth a shot, just don't expect to pick up a date here.
Pleasantly suprised by this place. I came here during my lunch break, wanting to try something new (I'm so tired of eating at all the restaurants near my job).
Standard bar food.. Chicken fingers, Burgers, potato skins, wraps etc; They also have "Blue plate specials" with options such as country fried steak, pot roast, salmon, and meatloaf.
I got the spicy buffalo chicken wrap. Its worth coming back for, very good. Is it worth driving 15 mins for? Probably not.
http://Livingsocial.com brought me here $10 for $20. I figured I would try some neighborhood bars. Â The atmosphere was a little weird, maybe because it was a Saturday. The Juke Box is KILLER. Its really a life-sized ipod. Its the cutest and most innovative thing for this neighborhood bar. Â They had a large selection of music. the food was typical bar food. I had a Hddock Wrap with fries - eh, Ive experienced better.
Review Source:I come to this place during happy hours on weekdays. They have good drink prices and half off appetizers. I always get the Appetizer Sampler which consists of wings, chicken tenders, buffalo shrimp, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins. The food is great and plentiful.
The bad news. This place has an older crowd and is filled with smoke. Smoke does not bother my breathing but I always leave this place smelling like an ashtray. The crowd seems to have an average age of late 40s to early 50s.
Everybody in the place is friendly and the staff is quick and humorous.
It's dive-y, but I like Laseters. It's everything you could really want out of a dive without being over the top. Sure people smoke here, but the ventilation and large space make it manageable. It's defintely a good place to catch a game. They have quite a few TVs and actually run drink specials every night of the week. Pitchers are always pretty cheap.
The food is nothing to write home about, but I wouldn't really expect it to be. There are all of the usual bar-food suspects on the menu and they run decent lunch specials. The crowd is older, but they seem to know how to have a good time.
I don't know how I feel about this place. If you want to go somewhere that has cheap beer, tons of tvs, and lets you smoke inside come here. I have spent time here day drinking and they shutter the windows up which gives the impression it is evening outside and causes me to make bad choices like ordering a round of shots at 2pm when I have stuff to do!
I don't know why but this bar attracts a very old crowd. The guys in there could be my grandfather and I am 30 years old. The people who are closer to my age are the fugliest people in the Atlanta area. I have no idea why this place is a magnet for the very ugly or the very old but it is. I am constantly getting leered at when I walk to the restroom by myself. I feel like a fish in a small pond I guess.
I've never eaten any food here so I can't comment on that aspect, but they do indeed serve food. I once showed up here wearing a snuggie and did not feel the slightest bit underdressed.
This place is something of a health hazard: Â it reeks of smoke and almost everything on the menu is fried, with extra cheese and mayo. Â The food is really tasty and filling but definitely old-school, artery-clogging pub grub. Â The wait staff and kitchen are very accommodatiing, though, and will happily leave off the cheese, adjust the sauces, and make substitutions if requested. Â I think it's a little pricey - $9-10 for a basic sandwich or wrap - but they do seem to use good, fresh ingredients. Â They have some of the most pleasant and efficient wait staff I've ever seen, and after just a few widely-spaced visits the team already knows my regular order. Â I wouldn't necessarily choose to go there, but don't mind when my friends select it.
Review Source:Came back for team trivia (we won) and it's the same. Food was average but when I didn't think the service could have been worse I was surprised yet again. This time our waiter was Ashton (a guy) and he's a definitely from the same space cadet platoon as Julie (from the last review) of the space cadet brigade. You have an eleven top that's willing to buy drinks, food, etc and pretty much set up about $70 in tips and you ignore them during most of the night. This place wasn't even half filled so there shouldn't have been any excuses. He was definitely interested in the sorostitutes that were there that night. Sorry our large table of patrons is getting in the way of you spitting your pitiful game. He wouldn't even acknowledge us when we attempted to get his attention, which occurred about once every ten minutes. Magically, like a waiting wizard, he shows up with our bills without us even asking and that's the end of the night.
Luckily, my friends were there to save the day and we had a good time.
I love this place. Perfect spot for meeting with friends, watching a game, playing pool, and enjoying drinks. Unpretentious, yet full of dive bar charm. The food is surprisingly good-try the burrito bowl!
The only downside is that you can't lie to your spouse about where you've been...the smell of smoke will give you away!
One thing that you must know is that this place REEKS of cigarettes and you will end up smelling of them if you spend a considerable time here. On my first visit here I was punched in the face by the cig smell but I got over it after a while. It was also pretty crowded due to it being St. Patrick's day as well as trivia night. Unfortunately I came in a little too late for trivia but it seemed like it was not the Team Trivia kind, I think the host actually wrote the questions, so I may come back due to this.
Overall the service was pretty good. I ended up ordering a basket of fries and a couple of craft beers, which were pretty good, but they could have been served in actual glasses. (I think they underestimated the number of patrons on St. Pat's) Â Our waitress was pretty attentive and the fries were nice and crispy and properly salted.
Overall it was a pretty good place if you can get over the smoke.
"Close the door, you're letting the smoke out" was a trivia team's name when I was playing trivia at Laseter's one night. This is a very fitting motto for this place.
Located right outside the Vinings off Cobb Parkway Laseter's is a great little bar that reminds me of bars that I frequented in college. Laseter's serves up reasonably priced booze and food for the area.
The beer is always cold at Laseter's, but they also have great bar food. We use to go here a lot for lunch at my old job and would always order one of their many blue plate specials, which was some good home cooking.
Nights can be a lot of fun at Laseter's with plenty of eye candy running around on Friday and Saturday nights. They also offer trivia a couple of nights during the week, which is always fun to fire up those brain cells that are left and see what kind of knowledge you still have about useless information.
Also Laseter's is a great place to catch some games on the tube while enjoying your frosty beverage. Just watch out for those West Virginia and Steelers fans, they can get out of control.
Overall, even though Laseter's if filled with smoke and you will certainly come out smelling like an old ashtray; it is still a really fun bar with a very friendly and helpful staff.
I am VERY disappointed with my recent experience at Laseter's. Went there with some friends to play trivia, the trivia host Jenn was great but our service and food was sub par. The worst part about the whole trip is that my debit card wad over-charged $161.77!!! My actual tab was $20, and when I called to complain the manager Amanda told me it was just an error becuase the server must have swiped my card under the wrong tab and the charge should come off in 3-5 business days and there was nothing she could do about it! This is not a minor error where my card was double charged- the entire tab for our whole tab for six people wasn't even $100! did she offer any kind of help what so ever? NO! Needless to say the over charge happened on a thursday and it's now monday and there's still $161.77 missing from my bank account! WTF??!!??
Review Source:I have mixed feelings about this place. The drinks are cheap and you can smoke inside which is not such a great thing because even though I like to smoke when I drink it's kind of disgusting when dozens of people around you are also doing it and you are trapped inside with them. Also there is no eye candy ever unless you like creepy older men.
The best part about this place is the cheap drinks. I've never eaten food here.
Went for trivia (which they have about 3 times a week). Was in the lead the entire game, then got accused of cheating because I was texting on my phone in the bathroom. I think I know who the bitch was too. We ended up losing anyways, so TAKE THAT.
On another note, our server Bill was phenomenal. Very attentive, accommodating, and quick. He even bought us a round of drinks after his shift. How nice! Andre is great too.
Three times a week they have 1/2 off appetizers. That means wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings for me! 10 juicy good ones will run you exactly $3.49 with that special. Freaking awesome.
I don't *quite* get how in the world a pitcher of Blue Moon costs $12 and a pitcher of Miller Lite costs $11.75. WTF? Someone has some 'splainin to do....
Three stars describes Laseter's very well. I love the place and have been going for years. But it's nothing special. It's a great place to relax and have a few drinks and maybe a dinner or appetizer.
The food is especially average. I've had much better "bar" food at many other bars. One notable exception is the cheese sticks, which are unusually delicious. I think the prices are a little high for what you get. Mon, Tues, and Thurs there is a "Happy Hour" special 5-7pm for half off appetizers. They are much more attractive at those prices.
Service is hit or miss. Depends on who you get, how well they know you, and what sort of mood they're in.
The atmosphere is pretty laid back, but it depends on the crowd. The bar attracts a good mix of people. You'll get the occasional group of wild college students, especially late at night. The air is pretty smoky. The bathrooms get pretty gross at times.
Tues, Thurs, and Sat are trivia nights. Poker tournaments are held Mon and Fri. The trivia is very competitive, and Saturday nights are especially packed for "Late Night Drunken Trivia", 11:30pm-1am. They occasionally hold special events for the holidays with a free buffet and small give-aways. The bar is somehow affiliated with West Virginia University, so they occasionally have special events for the football games.
Laseters is a local pub right on Cobb Parkway just outside of Smyrna in the shopping center across from Krogers. They have good service, good pub food, and a lot of flat screen TV's. There is smoking but the place has pretty good ventilation.
Non eating / drinking activities include several pool tables, a few video games, Trivia 3 different nights of the week, and poker nights. In my opinion, they have one of the better run Trivia nights in the area.
They always have one or two drink specials. The menu has a lot of typical pub foods with their potato soup and french dip being two stand outs. Most items on the menu are $10 or less with most being $7 or $8. Â They serve food late for those looking for a late bite.
Laseters gets a good crowd... safe atmosphere, mixture of ages, races, and sports allegiance.
Laseter's is a restaurant/bar that has a dive bar feel at night but would still be a fun place during the day to watch a game, eat, and drink beer with fellow sports fans.
We came with a big group on Saturday night and the place was hopping. We did find two tables together in a corner but some of us ended up playing games and sitting at the bar since it was a little cramped for a group of 10 or so. The group behind us seemed annoyed that we had a lot of people back in our corner, but then again they were drinking wine at a sports bar so we didn't worry about them too much. Also present were lots of really drunk Thrashers fans who were pretty hilarious.
Cheap beer specials, Coors Light pitcher for $8.99 I think, and all the food was inexpensive as well. We got fries later on in the evening and they were comparable to Wendy's fries, which happen to be my favorite of the fast food french fry options.
They had trivia starting at 1130p, which was actually the reason we came here. It was not terribly challenging, as we had heard, except that people kept getting progressively more intoxicated throughout the night, making some teams start floundering. A few questions..."Q--In the Harry Potter book series, who was Harry's nemesis at Hogwarts? A--Draco Malfoy. "Q--In what decade did the United Nations form? A--1940s." Bonus question at the end, "Q--What fast food chain has the most stores in the United States? A--Subway." We said McDonald's. Sadly, we did not win.
By the end of the night, it was pretty smoky and there were definitely a few shady characters here and there, but people were generally having a good time and weren't too rowdy. We stayed until closing in the early 2 o'clock hour and didn't have any problem getting our waiter to split up the checks.
Also, this is a West Virginia University alumni bar for any Mountaineer fans out there.
To sum up, cheap beer, decent food, fun trivia, interesting people. Good times, as long as your bring your own crowd.
Not much to add here . . .we attended a holiday get together/reunion here. Â Comfy atmosphere, a bit smoky, good wings, sports on all the televisions. Â Exactly what I expected after reading the other reviews here. Â The waiter was very attentive.
One thing I can add . . .they had GREAT sweet tea!
The old reliable neighborhood bar! Â Pool tables, dart boards and cold beer what else do you need? Â
This is a place you want to hit up for happy hour, most days they have some free grub to go with good drinks. Â
Trivia on Tuesday and Thursday, I think Friday nights are poker nights.
Nowhere near the nicest place in the world, but if you are looking to belly up to the bar and finish off the day it's right on point.
