The Northside Tavern

Great dive bar, with cheap beer, pool tables and most importantly the band, Mudcat, plays regularly. We thoroughly enjoyed our Friday night experience there; it was our first visit, but we'll be back.

If you love dive bars with lots of history, texture, and character, AND you love blues music, this place is for you. I love all of the above, so this place was definitely for me.

If this place were in Jacksonville, where I currently live, I would probably go there several nights a week just to listen to music. One of my favorite things about this place was how diverse the crowd was on the night I was there. Plus, it was as unpretentious as you could get. Good times!

This is the place that all dive bars hope to be one day. They have a great history, pack the place at night with fantastic live music, and have a strong base of regulars during off-peak hours. While it is definitely nothing to look at, as it's been quite beat up and highly used, the folks are friendly and they are there to have a good time!

I took my wife there this weekend for the Breeze Kings (great blues band) and she was definitely the nicest dressed person there. Once she got past her initial impressions of the dark and dingy aspect, she felt very comfortable and had a great time. As she said, "you just have to have an open mind and then it can be fun". This is perfect advice for Northside Tavern.

Try it out, keep your mind open, listen to some great live music and have a good time!
