I was under the impression this place would be over-hyped and overpriced. I was WRONG. Even if you're not a beer lover, Porter Beer Bar will have something you will like. The beer menu is HUGE (and a little intimidating at first), but thankfully it has great descriptions of every single one. I had a Wrecking Bar Chiseled Monk and a FuMan Brew, both on tap, and they were delicious. If you're not sure which direction to go in, just ask the bartender. Very helpful. You can also taste any of the beers on tap before making a final decision.
The beer selection is reason enough to stop by, but the food! The herb and garlic oil fries with charred onion mayo were the best fries I have ever had. My friend had the black bean burger and was really impressed. The mac and cheese was absolutely to die for.
For the amount of food I had, the two beers, and one vodka sprite, my bill was under $30, and that's pretty amazing for the quality and ambiance of this place. I'm definitely looking forward to going back.

Oh, Porter -- you're so cool.  And I just hate things that are too cool for school, but - I can't hate you.  Not with your fantastic beer list, your great food (including ever-changing and awesome desserts!), your legitimately (amongst grumbles) ambiance and vibe...I kind of wish you weren't as good as you are.  But you are.  Heck, the owner PERSONALLY DESIGNED THE LIGHT FIXTURES.  With WELDING EQUIPMENT.  I'm sure he had a very cool looking beard while doing it.

But really, this place has a great beer selection, great food, and -- whoops! -- an EXTREMELY long wait outside on busy nights.  But that's OK, because you'll be inside feeling like a cool guy for a long time once your party is called.  The interior is everything you'd expect - I actually do like the long stairway of dining tables - and it's just an Atlanta landmark in the making.  Sigh.

    I am a believer!

As a former non-beer-drinker, I was sort of disappointed when my friends wanted to go to a beer bar. The place was cool and hip, the crowd is hipster Level 100 (That is maximum amount of hipster in case you didn't know)

We walk in and there was a super line because the bar is very narrow but it took almost no time to find us a table.

We got the menu and it was ridiculously overwhelming. It was the never ending menu of beer! We took forever to decide what to drink because they had so many choices.

Anyway, the food menu came and it was just as overwhelming, so many delicious things to choose from. It's also important to mention that the prices are very reasonable.

We started with a cheese plate to share and as a meal I had the arugula salad which was pretty delicious.

Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a great time.

P.S. The waitress seemed like she hated the world and it physically hurt her to smile, but besides that, everything was a blast.
