Food is honestly sub par for the price. You can find a much better steak for half the price and the calamari was absolutely horrible. It doesn't take a refined pallet to tell when calamari isn't fresh. The brisket was decent but definitely not "tender enough to eat w only a fork". The ambiance was definitely nice w unique artwork. Maybe they should've scaled back on the design and spent more time on the food.
Review Source:I've always heard about this place but never got a chance to go until this week. The location is kind of tucked away, but the industrial setting makes it all the more fun. Dare I say, urban?
I came with a small group so we shared apps and entrees.
Bacon - everybody loves bacon. These two strips were cut a little thicker and topped with pickled okra and peppercorns, but also served with some kind of honey dijon mustard. The bacon's delish without the sauce, but in the end, it's only good because it's thick like the pork belly slices at Korean BBQ. It only made me wish we had gone to a Korean BBQ place.
Scallop ceviche - I mistakenly thought it was mozzarella in some kind of balsamic/pesto sauce because that's what the scallops looked like. Plus, they were so tender just like mozzarella. I wasn't too impressed.
Calamari - Kind of a staple app at most place. I like the batter the squid was covered in, but there was a little too much sauce. The sauce was a little too sweet. However, others in my group really liked it.
Lamb ribs - I enjoyed these ribs. They were so tender and flavorful that I mistook them as some kind of beef/pork rib because there was no lamb smell to it. It's a shame they're such small portions.
Pork Chop - This was the entree we shared which also had the dressed bread salad. My only complaint was that the pork chop was a little difficult to cut with our butter knives. We should've asked for a steak knife. The side of peach and buttermilk dressed bread salad was a bit unusual. It was tasty but you don't want to let it sit too long or else the bread really soaks up the buttermilk.
Duck - This was more reminiscent of duck confit. The flavors are all offset well with the other textures on this dish like the sausage and oyster mushrooms.
Overall, Two Urban Licks does an excellent job of making most of their items juicy and flavorful. I really like the space as it's so large that it can easily handle large parties, but it can still be intimate. My only complaint is that the live band can make it difficult to talk to people and whether you like it or not, you're going to walk out with the smell of bacon on your clothes. For some people, this is a good thing: my date couldn't keep his paws off me. Haha!
I'd like to come back to enjoy the space and maybe try more dessert, but I think we picked out and tried out all the things that stood out to us on the menu.
This place is definitely overrated. Â My friend and I got the reservation on a Sunday night and decided to give this place a try. Â I ordered their pork hog and it was overdone. Â I am a huge pork fan and the hog was suppose to be succulent filled with flavor. Â Unfortunately, the hog was extremely dry and overcooked, and on top of that, it lacks flavor. Â Later on, this item disappeared from the menu and I guess they finally figured out that it was horrible.
